PlayStation 5 revealed, great new PS5 games, and takeaways from today's PS5 showcases.
That’s a wrap! Today was an exciting day for gamers around the world, as the PlayStation 5 showcase granted us our first look at PS5 games under developmentā¦ and culminated with the reveal of the PS5 system itself.
Actually, two PS5 systems.
At PS5ās launch, we will offer two options: a PlayStationĀ®5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStationĀ®5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours. While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console thatās bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.
On the software side, the industry’s most talented developers unveiled a lineup of games that will define PS5 when it launches this holiday. Grand Theft Auto V started the party, revealing an expanded and enhanced edition due to hit PS5 in 2021.
PlayStation Studios also served up a massive buffet of extraordinary PlayStation 5 game reveals (read details here) totaling nine titles. It kicked off with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales — the next chapter in the acclaimed partnership between the legendary studio and Marvel Games and is due out for PS5 this holiday. Insomniac also revealed Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, a galaxy-hopping new PS5 adventure in the fan-favorite Insomniac series.
Our friends at Guerrilla gave us a breathtaking first look at Horizon Forbidden West for PlayStation 5, a gorgeous new adventure set in a distant land ravaged by massive storms. And Polyphony Digital dropped by to unveil Gran Turismo 7 as The Real Driving Simulator prepares for a new generation of PlayStation hardware.
And I know you’re excited about Demon’s Souls, a gorgeous PS5 remake from Bluepoint Games and Japan Studio.
When creating a new console, it’s essential to invite bright, talented independent developers into the process early. And it was inspiring to see such a wide array of innovative new indie titles showcased. Let’s just list them out:
INDIES
- Bugsnax from Young Horses
- A whimsical, narrative-driven adventure from the creators of Octodad. Investigate the mysterious Snacktooth Island, home of the legendary half-bug, half-snack creatures.
- Goodbye Volcano High from Ko_op
- A cinematic narrative game that touches on love, friendship, and self-realization in the final days of civilization.
- Jett: The Far Shore from Superbrothers + Pine Scented
- A bittersweet interstellar trip to a mythic oceanic planet in a narrative-driven action adventure, featuring an emotional mix of storytelling and world exploration.
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits from Ember Lab
- A story-driven action adventure game combining exploration and discovery with fast-paced combat.
- Little Devil Inside from Neostream Interactive
- Set in a āVictorian-likeā era, embark on dangerous missions to gain evidence and findings for your employer, a mysterious professor.
- Oddworld: Soulstorm from Oddworld Inhabitants
- A major visual and cinematic lead for the celebrated series, with intelligent new gameplay mechanics and twisted new devices to enable explosive deviousness.

- The Pathless from Giant Squid / Annapurna
- The mythic tale of an archer and an eagle in a vast forest who venture to a mystical island to dispel a curse of darkness.
- Stray from BlueTwelve Studio / Annapurna
- A little cat in a futuristic walled city, devoid of life, befriends a sentient drone. The cat must find its way home, and perhaps help the city along the way.
- Solar Ash from Heart Machine / Annapurna
- A journey through a surreal and vivid world filled with mystery, endearing characters, and massive enemy encounters across a vast open world.
THIRD-PARTY GAMES
PlayStation’s third-party partners also brought in some big new PS5 titles. Let’s take a look:
- Grand Theft Auto V from Rockstar Games

What we really want to know is the dimensions of this beast, because seems some of us will need to put a new wall shelf big enough to put this thing standing or laying down for what it seems.

I heard before the console will have 825GB but this is way too small I own both a PS4 and Xbox one with 2TB and yes both are filled from a long time. Constantly I have to delete old games to play new ones.
I just hope whenever a new version of the “PSVR” comes out, they bundle it with a console. Wife wouldn’t complain about it that much.
I do like the Digital Design better,but I will have to go with the Disc version for my games and movies. I know it will be more pricey, but that’s the way it is.
hi, ive read that PS5 will have backward compatibility with ps4, but Iām wondering if this is for physical or digital games since all my games are digital will I be able to play them?

Ok Sony. Now that the reveal is out of the way, how are you looking to improve the ability to transfer our old games to the PS5 on our local area networks instead of downloading them from the PS Store all over again. Disable the games if they do not appear in the accounts of those that did not pay for them to curtail pirating. If this will be cross-platform capable, this will help us get a jump on game transfers linked to our accounts. Secondly, will we go back to saving discs to the hard drives? This would greatly help.promote digital content by keeping the discs we have in our libraries, especially for your long-time customers/subcribers. We look forward to the next generation of gaming, but give us the incentive remain dedicated to the cause.

I can’t believe 30fps is still an acceptable target.
I get that the size is dictated by thermal constraints, but there’s absolutely no way I can put that giant piece of white plastic into our living room. Even on a shelf (assuming it will even fit) the white plastic is going to stand out. Hopefully at some point you’ll be making a black version (or maybe the “wings” are swappable?) because right now that industrial design is a dealbreaker for us.
I don’t like the way the XSX doesn’t fit on a typical home theatre shelf, but at least it can be put unobtrusively somewhere. Not everyone wants their living room dominated by their video game machine.

This looks pretty cool. Canāt wait to see if Square Enix releases next chapter of ffvii on this or the 4. Will you be taking pre-orders? During Covid a lot of people fell into the greed mindset and basically would have been war profiteering had there been a war. They purchased a lot of the consoles from retailers and since there was a demand for them, they were selling them at 30-50% markups of MSRP. Please donāt let them win with the PS5. Anyways the console looks amazing and canāt wait to try it out.

Please give time to camp at local store for preorder. For example release the news of being able to preorder a day before it’s possible. I’m not trying to miss out, as are many. Also please add missing features that could have been in a ps4 update, like PS3 video chat, or themes/overlays for streaming games. Also the PS4 web browser is pretty terrible, and PSN party chat unsecure. It would be nice to have a proper browser and discord chat like PC (and Xbox to an extent). And being able to leave text reviews on games like steam has set up should be around on psn already. Lots of other things I’m probably forgetting off the top of my head, but it would show alot if PlayStation stepped up their platform with things like that. I feel like I’m being resold everything I’ve already bought with a new skin. Except
for the specs on ps5, and a built in mic to controller. But cmon we been waiting years for this, and were just rebuyin what we bought already have pretty much lol. The new PS5 VR better have a camera on the headset and even battery powered. And why not give us buttons on bottom of controller. If price is ridiculous too, we better show we’re not happy with ps.
And to be honest singleplayer games put me to sleep. PS trying to hype up singleplayer focused games from series back from PS3 and earlier seems pretty unentertaining especially since we all know how it goes. Please step up the online experience, and let go of the old.
You also gott look at it like this. For those of us who want the console that dont have the internet access for online multiplayer, the single player games coming in better quality and loading speed and all that is definitely something for us to look forward to.
