PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

*Availability in each country subject to local import regulations. PS5 launch date for China is still under exploration and will be announced at a later date.

  • How can someone pre-order the console from India?

  • Woo! just pre-ordered mine!

  • Yeah… $500 console & $70 games? I rather put up with my jet engine launch PS4 then to put up with this. We all know games are easier and cheaper to make now so this is pure greed.

Call me when the PS5 is $300 & all the games I want are $30 & below.

  • I’ll buy a PS5 sometime in 2022. I can’t see no point in buying one just yet.

Hopefully by then, Sony will introduce a slightly cheaper, slimmer model, and a better selection of games.

God Of War Ragnorak will probably be pushed to 2022 anyhow.

If I was to buy a PS5 it would be the All in one version😉

  • En Europa 10e mas que en USA?? espero que sea otro error humano…

  • Will the new PS5 lay on its side? Otherwise it won’t fit inside my game cabinet.
Does Sony offer a SSD for upgrading the PS4?

  • Does the PS Plus Collection mean we won’t get free PS5 games every month like we do currently with PS4?

  • Will the ps5 be supporting 1440p output for monitors, or will it supersample down to 1080p like the ps4 pro?

  • When will we see non-profanity game versions? Some of us, with real world experiences, are less tolerant of game characters that cuss at you during play. That’s just dumb. Thanks.

  • My froth has reached a foam stage

  • PS4 Pro for me

  • What is the Price point for the PS Plus collection or is it the same price?

    • Most likely the same. Because raising the price at the launch of a new console would just raise the price too much and many fans would be turned off buying the new console.

  • Will there be limited edition ps5’s?!? Kinda want one of those lol

  • So, as early as tomorrow….You mean today? Already sold out at Walmart.

  • This new administration is wild/all over the place. Almost like they don’t know what the heck they are doing cuz that’s what it looks like.

  • So, plan is…..
    Get $500 by Nov.12
    Buy the Digital Edition
Buy the PULSE headphone ( cause, at my house, YOU NEED THEM!!!! )
Spend the rest of my life playing Astro Playground due to the fact i cant afford anything else.

  • What’s the math here $69,99 = €79.99? So we Europeans pay much more per game than Americans? Ok, thanks a lot…

    • Yeah, I’ve been slightly peeved by them just changing $ to € in prices
(When they pay 59 dollars, we pay 59 euros = 69 dollars)

      Now we’ll be paying 79€?
So US pays 69 dollars and we pay 94 dollars!?

Yeah, the digital PS5 version is *NOT* an option. After all, local retailers drop prices waay faster than PSN store and there’s no way I’ll keep buying 79€ games off PSN store.. and with the digital version, that’d be the only option.

  • This isn’t right. I really enjoyed the showcase and I am excited for “everything PS5”. But that price tag on games for the European market is horrendous and just generally disappointing. Next gen games shouldn’t cost more than 70 euros, especially since most retailers in developing and East European countries already sell current gen games at this price. That means PS5 games are going to cost around 85 euros or more. That’s 100$ for a single game! I think a lot of people will have to reconsider buying a PS5 once they see all of this.

    • Yeah, many americans seem to be upset about the idea of having to pay 69 dollars, while we’ve been paying that for all of last generation in the PSN store.
What’s been $59 for them, has been 59€ for us. Just the currency symbol changed… but 59€ = $69

Now $69 for them, 79€ for us.. so 94 DOLLARS PER GAME.

I really hope many europeans notice this and realize it’ll be a horrible idea to buy the digital edition of the PS5, as it will completely force you to buy all your games from a marketplace where games are priced at 79€ and price drops happen way slower than any physical disc retailers.

Have been hoping they’d actually convert the price to euro’s, so $59 = 50€… but now they do the exact opposite by 10€.

Why on earth would selling a digital game to europeans be 25 dollars more expensive to em?… Absurd.

  • I can’t wait!

  • If i have a library of physical PS4 games can i still play it if i get the digital edition of the ps5?

    • No for that you wold have to get the disk drive version.

They said before that the only way to play physical PS4 games on PS5 is by having the PS4 disc inserted in the PS5 while playing

  • I think having Horizon 2, Sackboy and Miles Morales as cross-gen titles is a big fail in many peoples’ eyes. I have been playing video games since the Atari 2600 and I put this down to a toxic, entitled, thumbsucking “communitay” that this 8th generation of consoles has enabled. Let that Jaguar CPU be sent to the graveyard, not continue this “no-one is left behind” BS.

    • What’s wrong with having cross-gen games? Not everyone can afford a $400+ console, so offering a few games on older hardware is fine.

    • Look. I’m sure all these games were fully desigbed with the ps4 in mind. And was just downgraded for the ps4.

    • I think it’s plausible to say why there are 3 titles are going to be cross-gen. PS5 supplies are going to be overwhelmed by demand and for people, myself included(thanks Paypal for taking too long to transfer), missed out and will hurt short-term sales and that it was a last moment decision– it doesn’t mean I agree with it– it’s a global business, after all.
It could be within the first 6-12 months of this short supply, high demand happening. Although I may be ended up not as disappointed with missing out pre-ordering, my expectations of being successful was limited.

  • Will PS5 preorder be a down payment or will I have to pay in full? Is there a payment plan like xbox? I would love an email when preorders go live.

    • They do a pre-authorization hold to see of you have the money, and then they release it back to you in about a week

That’s what the “Direct from Playstation” website told me anyway

  • I’ll just get the Xbox Series S, I’d rather pay $300 for a new console than $400 or $500, plus I hear Game Pass is an amazing deal. I’ll sadly miss out on Spider-Man, Ratchet, God Of War, Sackboy, Demon’s Souls, Gran Turismo, etc.

I hate the idea of giving up those great Sony games for more Halo, Gears, and Forza, but I really don’t want to spend $400+ on a new console plus $70 for individual games.

  • Pre orders start tomorrow that is nice but at what time? Would be nice to know a time for us people on the east coast.

  • Can we please see the UI??

  • I will be getting the disc drive version.

  • Will the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive let you download games to.

  • You’ve priced it higher than Xbox Series X in Poland. It doesn’t make sense :(

  • What’s the math here: $69.99 = €79.99? So we Europeans pay much more per game than Americans? Ok…

  • I want one

  • Man thanks for not telling us Pre order’s would be today. Thought you said tomorrow places are already selling out!

  • Absolutley can’t wait to get my hands on one of these beasts. My exit mentioned is through the roof right now.

All the games look amazing. And I’m weirdly but also non surprisingly most ecited for GOT and Kena:Bridge of spirits.

But the 1st game ill play will most likely be Spiderman:MM.

Thank you Sony for all odata this.

  • No mention of PS Now on PS5, is it even coming to PS5? Microsoft seems to have all their Xbox plans figured out but Sony still leaves things in the dark.

  • “Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow” – all the GameStop’s around me are already sold out within minutes of this announcement!? I thought you all were going to give us some notice.

  • Numbers, numbers, numbers, what about Minecraft?

  • I have a question. If being a PS+ member gives you access to the ps4 collection, does that mean that if your subscription expires you’re not able to play those games?

  • You said it wouldn’t be a surprise, you said you would let us know ahead of time. a tweet and someone who isn’t even with Sony telling us it late notice. What happened to the heads up? Places already selling out is not letting us know ahead of time! Thanks for not telling us ahead of time. I can’t order until tomorrow afternoon and everywhere seems to be selling out now! How is this fair and or right?

That’s the last of my rants I want to pre order one but doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen now!

    • my gripe as well , ceo of sony said there would be plenty of notice

    • I dunno but I can tell you this until now I have bought EVERY Playstation on release day. There was ALWAYS better notice than this! Now I might not even get the chance to pre order one at all. My only hope is the email from Sony and or the September 22 Walmart in store pre order. Would rather pre order online this time. I have owned this name and account since Playstation allowed us to make accounts. I have had PS plus since it launched. I have always supported Playstation. Not because I am a Fan boy but because I like what they have giving us in the case of games and everything else!

  • When can we pre order ? Since GameStop is all sold out.

    • Walmart and Target are sold out online as well. Well Target still has the disc drive unit open for pre order

    • Have owned every generation PS, and have been a PSPlus member for over 6 years. Got the invite to register for pre-order, but never got a pre-order link… Thanks Playstation. Great customer appreciation… 😒

  • Are you still planning on doing some direct sales? Various retailers are taking preorders now.

  • 80€ for a game in Europe?? Yeah… no

Have been supporting Sony since PS One, but this is such an anti consumer move that I’ll much rather spend the money on a RTX 3070 and enjoy cheaper games.

  • Sign me up for a digital edition, please

  • Got a physical on pre-order, so I am as ready as I will ever be.

  • I am Glad that PlayStation is releasing these games on PS4 because I can’t currently get a ps5 and I think that the free digital downloads form PS4 to ps5 is a really good move.

  • I pre-ordered the PS5 with the disc drive. I look forward to getting it. I do want to learn more about storage space expansion and backwards compatibility.

  • Had a ps5 in my cart from target than it vanished very displeased right now. Same thing happened when I wanted the translucent ps4.

  • How is that game cost more EUR than USD..? That’s insane..

  • $70 dollar games haha you gotta be kidding me.
Thanks for making this easy for me.
I hate the design of the console. HATE it. And the selection of games so far is pretty underwhelming, but after today’s showing I thought, “hmm alright. Demon’s Souls remake is looking good, and DMC Special Edition I’m excited for. Ratchet and Clank too.”
But not for $70 dollars a game. I’m sorry but I’ll be opting out.

  • Is sony gonna open pre-orders directly from their website or is it still gonna be a game of luck from retailers? It’s sold out at every retailer I’ve checked in 2 different cities

  • Console is priced competitively just to get people in the door. But everything else looks a bit unappealing to me. Expensive game prices, unclear backwards compatibility, exclusive games that feel like something I’ve played a hundred times before, uninteresting launch games(except Miles Morales which is also on PS4) and only old games on PS Plus Collection(as compared to Game Pass which gets launch day games and all first party ones). This is something probably worth buying 3-4 years into the lifecycle once the games start getting good discounts and there are a few console bundles. I’ve got no interest in getting it anywhere close to launch. Hope people who get this enjoy it.

  • “Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.”

Well, they are testing the waters here I see. I really wanted to play Demon’s Souls also. Too bad. I gotta take a stand somewhere. And $60 games it is. I’ll wait for grey-market discs or digital sales I guess.

    • EU prices used to just get the currency symbol changed… so that $59 -> 59€. That meant we payed 10 bucks more. In other words, we’ve been paying 69 dollars for years now.

Now the EU price reads 79€.. that’s 94 dollars per game.

      Hell. No.

    • anyone know of vr for ps4 will be compatible with ps5
