PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • Not liking these $69.99 video game prices. There is no need for that. If movies can make a bunch of money and still produce expensive movies, there is no way video games need to cost more.

  • Is PS Plus Collection a limited time thing, or will the collection grow over time? Is it a replacement for PS Now?

  • well u have to totally don’t like European people if u charge 80 euros for a game when Americans get 70$ instead, not cool sony not cool.

  • Please add prices in British pounds. We do exist aswell.

  • No optical confirmed

  • With 80 euro price tag on new games, I’ll better go for Xbox and Gamepass. I want new Ratchet, but no, not for prices like that.

  • I say PS+ members should get their preorder emails tonight. I think we’ve earned that.

  • Can we order directly from Sony?

  • SO, what does Tempest” 3D AudioTech aactualy means for people with surround sound system? i’m guessing atmos is off the table but wont you even have standard dd/dts audio format support? really?? i dont wanna play with headphones, common sony dont do us like that, i’m begging here.. you had this in the ps2, ps3 and ps4.. even series x/s have it, there is no excuse for this.

    • Dolby Atmos support should be standard these days, I hope it is included. I have no idea what Sony means by 3D Audiotech. Dolby and DTS are the industry standard.

    • they give more audio specs for the controller than they do the console itself! ha!

  • Guess I’m not buying your games day one for sure, waiting on sales/deep sales. That price hike is super greedy, especially when you guys are still gonna make multiple deluxe/limited editions for your games.

  • $399 digital edition is good.
The only limitation is I have to download every single game and eventually I will run of of space fast and need to wipe games.
It is already happening to my 500Gb SSD on my PS4.
Plus installation will take forever to download especially those games that are popular and hug in size and in high demand.
Plus no disc, no second hand games ever….do you wish to pay full price for every game or be dictated by playstation store pricing?
after thinking, I will go with the disc version even if it cost more initially.
with physical disc, I can buy and sell used games to lower cost of ownership.

  • Will there be a pro or no?

  • Whoever set the price for the PS5 games are absolutely mental!!

I would not pay those prices in normal circumstances nevermind while we are in a global recession. Unbelievably greedy from Sony. Hope the console sells poor due to game prices now, this coming from a PlayStation fan.. still can’t believe how greedy they are being!

  • 80 euros for games has to be a joke, right?

  • The only people complaining about the price of games legit can’t afford them. Most of y’all were buying collection games that were $100+ & y’all are complaining about $70 games?! Man, shut up.

    • People complaining about games going up by €20 are the sensible ones in society, people willing to just pay and just accept it are lemmings!

    • Spoken like a person who never held real responsibility in it’s life. Yes, 25% price hike is a deal breaker for any sane person.

    • I can afford it but am not just going to give them the pleasure of charging me more, especially the disgusting price hike in the EU.

    • Generally people who actually have money don’t spend it needlessly because they can. That’s just a good way to have no money very quickly.

Also, how were “most people” buying collectors editions when they’re generally limited to 100-1000 copies?

    • Guessing you’re one of those kids using their parent’s credit card irresponsibly.

  • I LOVE THAT REVEAL
NOW I WANT TO SEE THE PS5 UI

  • After this presentation I still can’t believe we don’t have a definitive answer on backwards compatibility for PS3 PS2 and PS1. I’m assuming that we don’t, but we’re it’s been left up in the air they’re still going to be speculation about it. Sony please clarify if you’re going to be supporting backwards compatibility or not, and if so how is it going to be supported.

  • Soo do have to make another profile and just upload the old games onto the digital version?

  • Any news on backwards compatibly? I own quite a few ps4 games on dics, don’t want to upgrade unless they’ll work on next gen

    • yeah. but only Ps4 games.

    • @Hummer h1

Sony have not been clear if PS5 is fully backwards compatible on all PS4 games, which is ringing my alarm bells. If Sony were certain of this, they would had said in confidence that PS5 will play all PS4 games from Day 1.

It seems that there only targeting selective titles, which is not good.

I will also be waiting it out to see what happens.

  • 80 DOLLARS FOR REMAKE??? 2077 will cost 60$! Sony, what is this?!

  • Sony is crazy with the EU game prices. Am getting the Xbox Series X with GamePass. Am going to wait on PS5 for a while now. Too bad.

    • Me too, I’m not paying those prices even though I can afford it. Game Price hike will only get worse. Interested to see how much the digital versions of ps5 games will be as they normally cost more than physical.

    • Digital should be cheaper since there’s no disc to manufacture or distribute to retailers. At least Steam on PC is cheaper than discs.

    • Same here. I’m buying XSX instead, this greedy attitude should not be tolerated.

    • @KINGV84

Its best to wait. The first batch of consoles are always inferior with malfunction issues.

  • Will there be a 1tb version of the PS5?

  • Please tell me you’re joking, €80 is almost 95$ for one game.
There is absolutely no way I’m going to pay that much for a game. No PS5 for me.

    • I was excited to pre order a ps5 tomorrow until I read how much the game prices will be. I have all my money ready in store credit but will be purchasing a series x and gamepass with it instead. I don’t like being ripped off!

    • Just get PS Now when it launches on PS5, it’s cheaper than GamePass with way more games.

    • @PS_man1984
It’s cheaper, correct – but it doesn’t have all the newest 1st party titles on day one

    • It’s not “almost $95” it’s $96. 😁

    • Amazon UK

PS5 Games range between £39-£59.99 tops.

However, UK pay €10 more for a PS5 console then the Europe. But Europe are screwed when it comes to the games.

€80 is unfortunate for Europeans countries, excluding the UK.

Then you have the Americans winging that $70 is alot of money for them 🤑🙄

  • I like the Battery capacity increase! Very nice!

  • Yes it’s $70 dollars versus 80Euros but what did you expect? Everyone know that the dollar is actually more valuable as the world’s central currency. Don’t be fooled by market “values” of currency, they’re all a lie, obviously (says Sony). And just think about this; Americans shouldn’t have to pay more than Europeans anyway because we’re closer to Japan, so the shipping cost is lower. Euros are cool but are they really worth more than the dollar? Hahahah, I don’t think so. The Euro may be valuable in countries like England but in countries like Greece it’s just dragging everyone else down. Or maybe Sony can’t do math and got it backwards,.. who knows..? Plus, don’t forget how badly Covid is ravaging our country right now so the price break on PS5 games will definitely help our economy return to normal. Plus, don’t forget that Kamala Harris has ties to big tech giants and everyone knows she’s going to be elected with Biden, so she clearly has brownie-points with Sony that helped bring the price down also.

    • What the heck are you blabbering about?

    • And England does not use the Euro. Go do some proper research.

    • Sorry I didn’t read your rambling wall of text. If you enjoy being ripped off and paying whatever price shareholders and execs come up with then be my guest! I have more sense and so do a lot of other people based on all the comments on here. Enjoy getting milked for every cent

    • Lmao typical “euro” buyer doesn’t even read what I said and posts a comment response to it. Get out of here you yank!

    • Sorry but your wall of text is that of a rambling nonsensical baboon! No one can understand what you are try say. Maybe you could try to type it out again so people can actually understand you.

    • Okay I’ll type it out again since you are having technical difficulties reading the first one because you can’t visit the eye doctor because of Covid. I’m sorry you’re going through so much right now.

“Yes it’s $70 dollars versus 80Euros but what did you expect? Everyone know that the dollar is actually more valuable as the world’s central currency. • BTW @Nippy_Kangaroo You’ve made like 50 posts about how you’re not going to “pay these ridiculous prices” but obviously you are or you wouldn’t be posting more than everyone else here put together so please just zip it already you’re so lame FAKER!

    • You’re more “I’m not going to do this but I totally do it!” than @KINGV84. I WON’T PAY! I WON’T PAY!!! *PAYS*

    • Sorry pal, I didn’t read your second one either. Hehe

    • Sony and much of gaming market are known for their price skimming practices. Their aim is to extract maximum price that people are willing to pay and keep lowering it over time to sell to other people who are willing to pay lower price. The smart thing to do is to ignore their launch prices and wait for what you are willing to pay. You get literally the same console, same games, but just a few years later. It shouldn’t matter if you have a decent backlog.

    • @phillytalors

Sony got it backwards. Have you not heard of there motto.

” One Step Forward, Two Step Backwards ”

Joe Biden should be in a old people’s home.

  • €79.99 ???? Are you literally driven mad with greed, Sony? You just lost a customer.

  • Well… as I respect my money, gonna wait even more than I waited to get the PS4. Just managed to get also my second PS3. Now I just need a PSP to have all PlayStations released ’till now.

Gonna wait the next gen ends and get the console at a lower price and also the games a lot cheaper . Meanwhile, waiting and wishing to see Gran Turismo on PC.

  • Los que vivimos en Argentina la vamos a ver en fotos nada más jajajaj (obviamente si son ricos la van a tener)

  • hello playstation actully thank you for the new console and generation ps5,but there is a game that i wish and would like you can make it ,it is home alone
the story of the movie than was by acted by McCauley Culkin season 1 and 2

  • Looks like this is going to be my birthday gift for myself since it releases the same month. Now if I can only get that pre-order started….

  • Which retail stores will have the pre orders and online or in store what time? As well for spider man Console bundle Will it be available at lunch?

  • This a W IMO. Event was good and they showed off the price at 399 and 499 which is a really nice and affordable price as well. Well done Sony. I can’t wait to play that spider man game as well, it looked insane at the event.

  • You must be joking with that 80 EUR price tag :/

  • Also what time exactly do pre orders go live in the US tomorrow

  • What about Bluetooth? I have Sony headphones (not PS4) with bluetooth. I will be able to connect it to a PS5?

  • Dear Sony,

As I said in another post, I am going to pass on the PS5 for the foreseeable future. In my view, you are not offering any must-play experiences that require a day-one purchase on my part. Moreover, I am very much dismayed at your decision to offer a PS Plus “collection” of games that many of your existing players have already purchased. For what its worth, I have purchased hundreds of games across three console generations (PS2, 3, and 4), and I find it bewildering that you appear to solve the backwards compatibility issue by requiring an additional PS Plus subscription. Please say this isn’t the case. I’ll revisit the matter once you have more PS5 exclusives (I’m really just interested in the Last of Us). Thanks for your time.

    nmendez79

    • Why would backwards compatibility require a subscription? This is just a collection of PS4 games for PS Plus subscribers as a bonus.

  • When will PS5 digital games become available to pre order in the PlayStation store? Specially NBA 2k21 Mamba Edition

  • That’s all well and good, but you guys should clarify what’s going on with backwards compatibility. Will ps5 run the catalogue of ps4? Which games will have improved graphic?
For somebody that already owns a PS4, this information is quite crucial…

  • I want to get the physical to replace my Sony 4k blu-ray player but they have not specified if it supports DV for 4k blu-ray discs. My current 4k player does and I will not downgrade to standard hdr10 for movies that support DV

    • they didnt list any HDR support at all in the video section. Hopefully they will have Dolby Vision support because its become the standard HDR format for streaming and of course the bluray support.

  • We BeLiEvE iN GeNeRaTiOns
    What a joke
Horizon spider man and sackboy why do I get a ps5 then?

  • Now I only need to know if it supports 1440p or if it’s locked to 1080p and 4K, like the PS4 Pro?

  • I was on the fence since the start of the year with my hype fluctuating. I can safely say the event shot it up to me about ready to pre-order. Immediately deflated when saw the new prices going forward given what is going on PC, Microsoft, or even Nintendo end… In essence I’ll likely buy mid life cycle on a sale as I just lost all hype. Be it the lack of backwards compatibility/free enhancements to existing titles, the GPU in general weaker compared to previous generations increases, SSD is great but to limited in storage for my liking, not enough pro consumer stuff for me to keep buying madly like I have done… Already have 600+ titles bought digitally on PS4 alone that doesn’t count my physical collection. So I’ll just stick to the loud fan noise of my Pro and my PS3 for the foreseeable future… Probably go to PC like my friends did in this coming year. I honestly am disappointed, but I hope to come back later if things get better…

    • To clarify my issue is with first party price increases and not the consoles price.

    • I was planning on getting a series x and a os5 at launch with some accessories but after seeing the price of games from Sony, decided the most sensible thing to do is skip the ps5 completely. Might just get a gaming pc with gamepass now or maybe a series x. Definitely not ps5 . I don’t like being ripped off

  • The controller has a headphone jack? All the tech blogs said headphone jacks were dead.

  • Why is so expensive, this is not good, Xbox is gonna win you if you put the ps5 cost $500 gosh.Plz low the price.

  • Audio – ““Tempest” 3D AudioTech” THAT’S HELPFUL! Even XBOX listed Dolby/DTS / PCM support.

  • games cost more to produce and developers are highly highly underpaid. It is time

  • Demons Souls best game of the show.

  • How about giving us GBP prices for games? You can do it for the console itself, are you just waiting til launch day to reveal how much we’re getting screwed by?

  • Is DualSense working on ps4?

  • Preorders??
