PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo, that is cool and stuff

    • What’s going on with the direct pre orders curious as i see they closed it now. Did they already select people ?

  • Horizon on PS4 makes no sense at all. Did you notice the backlash that Halo Infinite got back in July? How are you ensuring that the PS5 version is not being held back by the PS4 version?

  • This was an amazing reveal, Arigatou! 😊

  • Witch ps5 everybody getting?

    • Apparently none at the moment since Sony didn’t enforce the pre-order date with retailers like MS has done, which left many of us caught off guard.

Add in the fact being a loyal customer and owning every system since the PS1 launched doesn’t deem me worthy to give them more money in their eyes since I never received a pre-order invite means I will now try my hand at getting an XBOX on the 22nd.

Not a great way to treat long time consumers, Sony.

    • @Dub.

Don’t worry. I got the email invite. Waited in a queue for over an hour and no PS5 even listed when I entered the store.

    • None! I would have loved to get the regular edition w/ the disc drive, but like @dubplate, I’m not a valued customer. I am lucky to have expendable incoming and had already mapped out the accessories and at least 5 games I was hyped to get at launch.

I have owned all the PS versions and had bought each one on the launch date. Unfortunately, both my PS3 and PS4 died completely at least a year before the next version launched.

I have lost confidence in Sony at putting out a quality product and the disaster of their launch just echos the slipping standards of this company.

    • Due to the mess up that pre orders was I have a disc one and a digital one and two more are in limbo where money has been taken by the shop but no confirmation email and going by site information can take 21 days for money to be returned if sale is not confirmed and email from company says they are still sorting out who got a ps5 in the mess…

  • So, the prices of the games will be $69.99…

  • You’re charging $70 for a Remaster? Seriously? Nahh, and 2021 for god of war rag? Nah or you would of showed gameplay or a cutscene, it will be delayed, not getting a ps5 til 2022 at this rate, that $300 xbox is looking really good atm not gonna lie lmao

    • Same, skipping ps5 for the foreseeable future until I know exactly how much game prices will be in stores. I am 100% not paying these ps5 game prices, not a chance in hell! Xbox and gamepass is the way to go!

    • Demon’s Souls is a FULL REMAKE. It will be arguably the most impressive looking game at launch. It’s a legit, next gen, AAA exclusive.

Why would u get a 4 teraflop “next gen” Xbox that runs XB1 S versions of XB1 games? Especially when there are no games in the pipeline over the next 2 years and a digital PS4 is only $100 more with actual launch exclusives and a ton of monster games coming year one?

Series S isn’t next gen. It’s a 1080p machine with 10gb of slow ram and less power than a PS4 Pro. Enjoy your weak system with no games.

  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: CAD$499.99 (RRP)
PlayStation 5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc: CAD$629.99 (RRP)

  • Would have love to see the UI Jim… would have also been nice to know when Sony will send out their pre order emails. This show should have answered all these questions to be honest.

    • I got a buddy that got an email yesterday and he told me that he would have to go in a lobby on Friday and wait for a chance to pre-order one then. By hearing that I’m pretty sure that they sent them out already.

  • Great showcase. Really hype for God of War Next Year and Spider man: Miles Morales.

  • You can keep you PS5 Sony! I am not paying those ridiculous eu game prices! Good luck selling 11 million units first quarter, you will need it when the media get wind of your extortionate game prices.

    • For the people complaining about new games being 70$ on ps5, Its going to be 70$ for Xbox One X also. It wasn’t neither company fault that the games are 70$ its the people publishing the game deciding the prices that made everyone else do it. Either save yourself the money and buy a gaming pc or just dont buy it lol

    • You can’t really clear Sony from blame by saying “it’s the publishers” when Sony are publishing most the games. 😁

    • Sony and Microsoft both have exclusives games that are gonna be 70$. Games that Sony and Microsoft dont work on is gonna cost 70$ for an example COD Cold War. Everyone just jumped on the 70$ price change because everyone is doing it now. It only makes since that they would do it too.

    • 80 euro is 95$, not 70.. now what?

    • Series X exclusives will be $70 as well, it’s just that Xbox doesn’t have any next gen exclusives coming anytime soon.

$70 will be the norm for next gen exclusives. Some publishers are doing this with cross gen games already, Sony isn’t. They are only doing it with the 3 next gen exclusives. Demon’s Souls, Godfall, Destruction All-Stars. Hardly anybody else even has next gen exclusives. This is the norm.

Don’t celebrate your company because they have no next gen games. Sony’s cross gen PS5 games are regular price. Sackboy $60, Miles $50. Stick to Gamepass and buy a $300 next gen console to play games at 720-1080p. Enjoy hyping third party games because u have no exclusives. Enjoy waiting years to play big exclusives. I’ll be on Demon’s Souls, Miles Morales, Godfall, Destruction All-Stars, Sackboy Nov 12th.

  • What about the ps4 Camera Adapeter for PS VR use. Sony mentioned it a month ago…still no sign about it.

  • GREATNESS AWAITS with that digital edition

    • @guppy13-14

Greed and Control Awaits for the Digital Edition. The only thing good about the Digital Edition is that it’s slimmer.

  • Can I play all of my PS4 games on it (physical discs)

  • There are a few more dilemmas:
    User interface
    Connectivity with ps4 games

  • ¿Los discos de la ps4 se podran poner en la ps5?

  • when can we expect a full reveal of the UI?
in two months the console will be released ad we won’t know how the UI looks like!

  • Euro’s getting screwed tnx Sony ….

  • Is there a confirmation on the backward compatibility whether its compatible with Ps1, Ps2, Ps3 and or Ps4 games?

  • Why on earth games are so much cheaper in US and Japan than Europe???? ~70$vs~95$!!!!!

  • I have the entire PS3/collection and bought the PS2/3/4 at launch…. Sorry but I’m out, game prices are ridiculous, no optical audio port, no Dolby support, only way to get surround sound is to spend an 100 on the Pulse headset…. Very very greedy… I’m OUT!

    • there’s no way they can only support surround sound via headphones. surely they know people connect their playstations to theater systems via hdmi bitstreaming.

  • So no optical out for separate speakers/soundbars?

  • This money is burning me so bad ,
SONY I BEG OF YOU take this money from my hands , Save this poor pathetic soul of mine . Gide me through the path of
    Pre-Orders for the PS5 .

  • 80€ for ps5 games, are these prices actually correct or did someone make mistake? This is insane compared to the other regions.

  • PlayStation 5 bien 🤩

  • PlayStation 5 bien aplaudir

  • Who are the select retailers?

  • Waiting for that pre-order email, let’s Gooooo!!!

  • 80 freakin’ euros for a game?
You guys know that it translates to 94.51USD, right?

  • Let’s GO!!!!

    I need those PRE-ORDERS!!! I’m buying both PS5 consoles!

  • What about backwards compatibility with Ps3, ps2 and ps1?

  • So much for “We believe in generations”.

  • PS3 all over again: PS5 for people that will make extra hours to be able to afford €70 games

  • No Special Edition for Demon’s Souls!?

    Aw come on!

  • Sadly no Socom 2 remaster 😢😢😢😢

  • Crazy how you can say “ This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced.“

And “$70 games now btw haHAA” in the same post with a straight face

    • Yes, it’s like Sony execs and shareholders are so detached from the rest of the real world they are living in cloud cuckoo land. Decided as soon as I saw the game prices that I am skipping ps5 completely as game prices will only go up from now, especially digital

  • thanks sony for supporting pc. now i don’t need to buy your console. rtx 3080 here i come

  • Games are really going to cost 70$?

  • So PS5 don’t support 1080p HD TVs then so people post false info that PS5 Supports 1080p TVs . I be buying a PS5 tomorrow I be pre order it and next month I buy a 4K Tv since PS5 don’t support 1080p HD TV 60Frames .

  • We got UK (£) Prices on the accessories?

  • I hope that DualSense Capacity: 1,560mAh will last past 36 hours gaming time with light bar, audio speakers, and built-in mic on the controller design now. DS4 battery life was bad and when it ages it goes worse. Hope that with DualSense it’ll last longer and with age too. Also you did amazing on job on PS5 showcase on price and video games to come. Please keep up the good work and don’t fail us plz. Thank you.

  • Dear PlayStation,
Ive been saving money for this system even before the pandemic knowing it was “New console” season! All im asking for is to be able to pre-order the system without fighting any bots or people trying to resale at a higher price! I promise you I’m picking up the digital system and every accessory!
    Please make this process fair!

  • Honestly, €79,99 retail is just a bit too much. Please reconsider this.

    • They are greedy, they know people will still buy it. They will not reconsider unless it affects their console sales. You gotta vote with your wallet and not pick one up unfortunately. Maybe one day they will put game prices down

  • PS Store prices are what will keep me from buying the Digital Only version. I’ve bought over 300 digital PS4 games, and prefer doing so. But too many games on there are never reduced in price. Games like CoD still sell for $60 4-5 years later, but are $10 used, or $20 at retail. So while I’ll continue to buy most games digitally, I’ll be getting that sexy AF Disc version so I can get reasonably priced titles as well.

    • If physical games are going to cost $70, except to pay at least $80 for digital from now on

    • Example: CoD: Infinite Warfare still sells for $60 digitally. I skipped this title. But recently found it at Walmart for $5. So I bought it. At $60, I would have never bothered, but a $5 risk for a 4 year old game was worth it.

  • I’m going for digital because I don’t use disc.

  • All great stuff. Looking forward to seeing the limited edition console for the God of War sequel.

  • I just want my preorder email please 👀👨‍💻🚚 Please and Thank you

  • I hope you have enough for all. I’m signing up Sony credit card for getting $50 credit and another $50 for spending over $600.

PS5 disc version here , returnal , gt7, miles, rachet, 3D audio. SSD io lets go.

  • Can’t wait to pre-order. Hope i get an invite so i can be one of the 1st to order it.

  • Will PS4 save data transfer to PS5 so we don’t have to start our games over?

Is PS Now coming to PS5?

  • Disappointed UK gamer, why do we have wait an extra week to get the console? Why you can’t just roll it out to everyone at the same time is beyond me.
