PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

Also launching this November is a slate of new accessories:

  • DualSense™ Wireless Controller (standalone) – US$69.99/CAD$89.99/¥6,980/€69.99 (RRP)
  • PULSE 3D™ wireless headset – with 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones US$99.99/CAD$129.99/¥9,980/€99.99 (RRP)

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • 69.99 plus taxes wow u guys really don’t care about the gamer’s all you care about is The Money the ps5 already $400 to $500
Play station plus is $60 , joysticks $70 Once people see these prices your sales are going to go down. lol good luck

  • Pre-orders were supposed to start tomorrow but several retailers opened early. Now it’s already sold out everywhere except ebay where they’re going for $1000 and up. I wish there was a better way to do this. I was planning on getting a PS5 but it now looks like I may be out of luck because I refuse to support scalpers! So much for plenty of notice before pre-orders go live.

    • I wish Sony would have made the retailers take your PSN account name at pre order name and lock the console to that PSN id for 6 months.

  • Will the PS+ collection games offer better resolution/frame rates? If so will we get 4k 60fpd in GoW and Bloodborne?

  • I think the only people that got a pre-order are scalpers sadly

  • Do we know yet whether the PS5 will support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on UHD playback?

    • I want to know the answer to this as well. It needs to support Vision and Atmos for streaming too, not just UHD playback.

  • Thanks for screwing me out of my PS5. I guess loyalty means nothing to you. I’ve owned PS1, PS2, PS3. PSP, & currently have a PS4. I’m hurt. :(

  • did anyone get an email from sony about preorders yet? why did i sign up for it

  • Sony on pre-ordering PS5 before 9/16: “It’s not going to happen with a minute’s notice.” Quote from PlayStation’s Worldwide Head of Marketing Eric Lempel.

    Sony on 9/16: “Surprise!”

    That was pretty pathetic.

  • Will the ps4 platinum headset work with the ps5.

Will game sharing between your primary and secondary console work as it did with ps4?

  • so there is no PS5 2Tb
No 1TB Storage Expansion Card At the back on PS5 (

  • I’m so frustrated with the way Sony handled this. As a long time support, I took the word of preorders starting tomorrow. Was ready to get to locations to order mine tomorrow as said. Little did I know, they released their preorders today. I lost out on mine. As I realized too late and now everything is sold. I really hope this gets worked out or I receive an email inviting me to preorder as I signed up for that as well.

    • Sony have always been a one step forward, and two steps back company. It quite bizarre how they survived this long. 🤔🤔🤔Hmm

However it wouldn’t be the same without them though. I’d actually would miss them.

  • I’m just hoping it will play physical PS4 titles so that I may properly bridge the gap from my backwards compatible fat ps3. It would be a great disappointment if it can’t.

  • Waiting on that Email lol

  • Hello everyone. If someone can answer, when will the PSV be available for pre-order from the Playstation/Sony Store? Thank you :)

  • Insanely high prices for games. Imagine season passes, add them to your vanilla game and you find yourself paying 120€ for a game. So every game will cost me 20% of my new console. How much for PS+ next year? 90€ ?

    • They totally wont forget they raised the price for PS+ by 20% before removing 2/3rds of the content will they… 😁

  • Currently attempting to pre-order at Best Buy, but I they keep stalling me at checkout. As read in other articles, Walmart, Target, Amazon and Gamestop have cancelled their pre-orders already. Has there been an update on those that registered for early pre-orders? Many thanks for the update!

  • Will the PS5 play ps4 games in 4k like the pro or no ?

  • Hello, will I be able to play the Last of us part 2 on the PS5 on launch day? I plan on ordering the digital version but will it be available to download/purchase through the playstation store on ps5? Thank you.

  • SONY it was POOR.

LANUCH GAMES? Price for game 70€?

  • Will Sony do their own Pre-order as the retailers did not follow what don’t put in place?

  • @Playstation get notices from stores that pre-orders were live but then all locations were sold out but can buy on EBAY at $800. Maybe it’s time to give Xbox a shot, you guys anounced pre-orders would not go live til the next day!

  • *what Sony put in place

  • Being an owner of a ps4 pro and xbox1x, I was excited for the Ps5, then I saw the price of the games and controllers, minimal hard drive space and unknown backwards compatibility. I don’t like the idea of an all digital box by either company, they will have too much control. Game disc sharing with friends, trading, renting will be non existent.
I like that all older accessories will work on xbox series x and all games of the past are playable. I really don’t need a touch pad or haptic feedback in a ps5 controller. I have a Nintendo Switch also, they have haptic feedback and it’s barely used.
Xbox 1 s has a 4k blu ray drive, so they aren’t that expensive and is a Sony invention. They should have upped the ssd over the controller gimmicks, kept the games at $59 and controllers at $59 and I would buy one first day with disc drive at $499 but i’ll wait for now. I’ll also wait on xbox series x. Hope they both have excellent cooling systems though.

    • unfortunately the price of the upcoming games arent just a Sony issue… it will be across all platform.

the new increased price will be the new norm Soon™

this was already confirmed by PS game developers, xbox game developers and even PC Games.

as for the hardware, well Sony has to increase price somewhere to keep the console affordable :p

    • I liked the Xbox One X. It is a well made premium built console, cold to the touch, small and super quiet. Unlike the noisy, crackling oversized PS4 Pro.

The only reason I sold my Xbox One X was the lack of games. But the overall console trumps the PS4, I wished the PS4 was built as well as the Xbox One X.

  • how will the ps5 handle external hard drives/ssd. and will the external ssd be able to take advantage of the system loading speed like the internal ssd.

  • Whats the voltage? Is it like the ps4pro 110-240 or region based?

  • So when you told us Sept 17th for pre-order I guess that meant the 16th? Congrats on a total garbage rollout of preorders.

  • Why not show the game trailers launching from the PS5 home screen?

Thought we were getting plenty of warning for pre-orders?

Last night presentation just seemed a bit of a mess too me.

Why give us firm release dates of the games we can buy leading up to Christmas?

  • Got the disc edition.

  • So with the digital edition. How would i be able to get my physical games on the digital one?

    • you wouldn’t hence the “word” digital..

That’s the difference. The digital only PS5 has NO DISC TRAY and therefore has absolutely no way of playing a game on a disc.

You must purchase and download everything from the PlayStation Store.

  • You may want to rebrand the console to PayStation 5!

    80 euros for a single game? That’s a 33% increase!

No way I am going to buy the digital version, I’ll keep buying second hand games and resell them after I have completed them.

    • unfortunately the price of the upcoming games arent just a Sony issue… it will be across all platform.

the new increased price will be the new norm Soon™

this was already confirmed by PS game developers, xbox game developers and even PC Games.

  • Sony I hope you’re happy I really do! First you and Microsoft act like absolute children in this info release chicken. Then Microsoft finally does the right thing gives a pre-order date that give every one Advance warning like they said they WOULD wait did you not say the same thing…. yup I’m pretty sure you did good job for lying heck you did not even show the preorder on your stream!!!!!!

Look iv always been a PlayStation fan I’ve always had your consoles and I’ve always been a big advocator for you guys but thanks to the Preorder mess that YOU CAUSED I think Microsoft going to get my money now.

  • Is there a photo of the rear I/O ports? and also of the expansion port/slot?

  • Man I really hope to god that sign up link for pre-orders direct from Sony/PlayStation is legit and I get chosen. And if I am chosen I hope the email isn’t lost like promotional emails from PlayStation tend to do even though all the settings to receive emails from PS/Sony are selected.

I had absolutely NO TROUBLE AT ALL pre-ordering the PS4 and PS4 Pro as soon as they became available to pre-order but this PS5 launch seems to be a whole different level of non-sense.

Official word said “As soon as tomorrow” and already my local Gamestop and many other locations around the world have broken that and are already sold out on their allocated console amounts..

    Such a travesty.

  • Pretty zzzzz to me. No reason to upgrade and Xbox seems to offer more. For 500 I’ll at least have a 4k player with it and game pass.

  • Thanks for the heads up for the start of preorders… as early as tomorrow?!? Most place were sold out by 8 pm est this evening. I was unable to get one through various locations and wasn’t even announced prior to going live … so much for a fair shot at it!!

  • What the… 80-90 euro for AAA game!? This is not normal!!!!!

    • it will be normal,

please be aware this is not a playstation thing. that price will be the new norm for all platform including xbox, pc…

next generation games will increase price

  • Also. I hope Sony or the devs will tell us gamers what is the actual resolution each release game plays on, native 4k, native 4k 60fps with ray tracing, native 4k 30fps, dynamic 4k, 1440p 120fps, etc. Also please tell us what graphics settings the ps5 game plays on, ultra max out settings (pc), all high, ray tracing on etc. So that no random people on the internet and youtube makes up resolution and setting for the ps5 or the console games to downplay them to please pc gamers. They are downright cheating and lying with the consoles settings and resolution just to downplay it. I hope the devs will just right out say what resolutions and settings a game plays on the console like when rockstars said red dead 2 is native 4k xboxonex and it is, all these pc bias channels and sites can’t downplay it then

  • Will the standard version support Dobly Atmos and DTS:X for blurays? Many people I know want to use this as a UHD bluray player, it will make a huge difference. And will the Tempest audio system take advantage of current surround sound systems?

  • Can someone clarify this for me – I’ve preordered Cyberpunk 2077 Collectors edition – how will I be able to play that game on the PS5 Digital which I plan to buy?

Through PSN account info that I’ve played it on my PS4, or there is no chance to transfer it to PS5 Digital?

I bet that CDPR will make it possible through a code or something, but this is what interests me the most, been thinking about it for a while now.

Digital edition looks a bit more elegant, yeah the price is lower, but I’m going for the looks first.

  • Will my platinum ps4 headset work?

Will game sharing between my primary and secondary console work as it does with ps4?

  • What about Dolby Vision for PS5? Is Sony so poor or stingy to offer this feature? I think my next gen this time will be the Xbox

  • will ps4 external usb 3.0 hard drives be supported for ps4 games on the playstation 5? i think a lot of gamers would like to know this….

  • I don’t like it because it’s not in Nigeria

  • Digital Edition, games priced at $70 will just have to wait. A PlayStation game value’s age like milk so it won’t be long. Not gonna enable that nonsense.

  • No psvr information.
Ps4 version, no ssd or cpu design.
    PC version, no ssd design.
80€ in Europe. No worldwide launch. Europe is secondary although Europe is the best market for Playstation.

Almost every game looks like ps4 game. The first next gen witch looks like previous gen.

You have to work to improve this. I have lots of wish to buy ps5, buy you work hard brooking my willing XD.

  • 70USD=80EUR? Well, FU sony

    • after the EU government slap tax on 70 USD, it becomes 80-90 EUR :)

    • Actually no even with “sales tax” it wouldn’t.

80 Euros is $96 and a 37% increase. The highest “sales tax” is 20%.

      $70 is 58.40 Euros

Raise 58.40 by 20% and you get 70.08 Euros.

Games should be 70 Euros using the “sales tax” excuse. It just doesn’t actually work.

  • You just gave other publishers green light to increase base price of games, have under-powered console and added old games to PS Plus subscription. Great job. You will not see money for me this generation.

  • Thanks for deceiving me Sony, with this register for pre order lie. I wound up pre ordering mine at BestBuy… Your lucky i didnt switch to xbox

  • Looking forward for the UI showcase.

  • Hey Can we get more info on the Pre-orders and also are all future PS5 games going to cost 70$.
