PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • Can we transfer our PS4 saves to the PS5?

  • No warning for pre order smh

  • I don’t know what it takes to get a preorder email, but been with you all since ps1, have psnow an plus spend a ton of cask regularly on only digital purchases an still no hint of a preorder. Feel like Playstation is treating its users more an more like garbage.

  • Gotta love how. “Preorders starts as early as tomorrow.” Turned into starts in a few hours. I completely missed out because no one knew they where starting after the stream

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EARLY INVITE?!!!!Sony needs to change how they do this. They should just offer preorders to existing PS+ subscribers first and then if there’s anything left supply the retailers.

  • Great. When can we pre-order it?

  • Before I ordered the PS5 I visited this page fortunately. 1 euro is equal with 1.18 $

I live in EU and I have to pay 80 euros for a game. :D huh. I think this is the end of 20 years of loyality. I am so disappointed. :( bye bye video games, hello real world :)

  • Is the PS5 going to be USB Audio Class 2 compliant? This is necessary to be able to connect it to the vast majority of Digital to Analogue Converters (DACS). This is even more essential now that the optical out is gone. Your current Audio Specs just mention “Tempest” 3D AudioTech without any additional detail.

  • Stoked for the console but bummed that companies immediately sold out, even after signing up way in advance to preorder… Missed a dedicated fan here :/

  • You know Sony you guys messed up big-time I was at GameStop at the mall in Victorville California and I was waiting for the pre-order announcement since 1:30 p.m. and I left the mall and just found out today since pre-orders was supposed to start today that yesterday at GameStop you guys announced pre-order started at 3 now I miss my opportunity this is bull

  • i was denied the preorder because of activity and previous interest. i preordered on aug 26 on time first come first serve basis and then the worst part is i have activity and had previous interest. I cant even buy it anywhere else cause its sold out. i spent 1000s of dollars on playstation to get treated like this: thats crazy.

  • Please send me an email to get a console.

  • How does pre-orders work

  • If we got a email to the exclusive pre order, does that actually matter anymore since all other retailers are sold out? Did I lose out on waiting for this exclusive opportunity to just not be able to pre order?

    • If you were selected, you can have a chance to buy from Sony directly. They did not open their pre orders yet. Only retail stores

  • Could you please kindly advise why Demon’s Souls game will cost in USA $69.99 but in Europe price is €79.99? Euro is more expensive that dollar and the price is even higher. Is there any practical reason for this?

  • anybody knows if the HDMI cable included is 2.1 capable of 48Gbps?

  • Sony, you have done everything wrong with PS5. From not including retrocompatibility with PS3/2/1, to having no idea how retro works with PS4. Will the resolution improve? will improve the FPS? Is it just download/insert the game and start playing my PS4 games? Also, what is that Spiderman Remastered only for those who buy SMM UE? And the worst thing is the price increase. I am not going to fall for your Sony game, even after buying many games from the store. Every time they have a good generation, the next generation is consumed by greed and things like this happen.
Remember that we are in a pandemic in which many people have lost their jobs around the world, and now that the new generation is beginning, prices go up? Are they crazy?
It’s hard to admit, but Xbox for the same price offers much more than you, including gamepass and full backward compatibility with previous systems, backward compatibility that you are not interested in offering us, due to the fact that you want us to spend our money again on games we already have.
Anyway, I am tremendously disappointed in everything that surrounds Sony and PS5.

  • Until DVDs are almost entirely phased out, which certainly won’t be in the next 5-10 years, I can’t see myself getting a digital console. I’ll be getting the regular PS5, probably by Autumn 2021. Besides, with regards to price and value, digital console is more power to the console-makers, less power to the consumers and the retailers.

P.S. Sony, please include what would be DVD extras in your digital film and TV purchases from the PS Store. Don’t let DVD extras die with the eventual extinction of DVDs.

  • In my country, € 79.99 is a very high price for a game. I usually like to buy collector’s/limited editions, but at such a price I dare not imagine how much they will cost. This made it very easy for me to stay on ps4 for a while longer.

  • It seems like the PS5 will be the first Sony console I don’t get on launch day but it’s not for lack of trying. Horrible pre-order info during the event yesterday thought they said it was going on sale today??? And by the time I found it it launched, every site I went to was crashing, or already sold out.

Still hoping, but not holding my breath, that I might get an email from Sony to make a purchase directly through them. Happy I signed up early, using my PSN username, but have not even received confirmation that I’ll be notified when Sony starts selling.

With my current luck Sony probably is already sold out and they just decided that I was not a worthy customer.

Or maybe since I’ve been playing PlayStation for 25 years, owning multiple versions of each gen, they know I’ll wait until next year, stay loyal and not try a new console.

Wish Sony was clearer during the event and maybe reply to those of us that signed up through Sony to purchase, give us an update!!!

  • I’m bitter that the preorders are gone. They were supposed to release today. I’ve been on PSN for 20 years and was signed up with everyone for notices etc. didn’t get one notice or an email from PlayStation for their selective pre order.

  • And I don’t have enough to pre-order on the select pre-order from Sony because I don’t have exact five hundred bucks to take out my bank account right then and there

  • UK release prices/dates for comparison:
    PS2 £300 11.00
    PS3 £425 03.07
    PS4 £350 11.13
    PS5 £450 11.20
    PS5 £360 11.20 (Digital)

PS4 £280 05.15 (Arkham Knight bundle) is the one I got. Hopefully, I’m able find a reasonably-inflated priced PS5 bundle.

  • So, there is no reason at all to get a PS5, especially at launch. Got it.

    • Except playing games you own with little to no load times, better fps, and better performance. Other than that and Demon’s Souls, you’re right.

  • Can anyone that signed, up through PSN, for direct PS5 purchase through SONY, confirm that they received email or purchase opportunity.

Been refreshing my email constantly for almost a day.

Missed BestBuy email by 5 minutes & by the time I got to the site crash crash crash crash crash sold out.

  • Anyone know if we can expect the PS5 to be compatible with non-Sony headphones? PS4 never let me connect to my Beats Solo2. Or am I the only one with that problem?

  • Yes Sony you Fup the Preorder Thanks

  • very upset with the lack of communication and straight up screw job for preorders you had months to get a simple thing right.

  • Sony South Africa mark up value on the Playstation 5 is a punishment to customers interested in your product, why do we have to pay the equivalent to 740USD when other countries only pay 499USD

  • Seriously Sony you should waited till you made this easy for consumers you did a terrible job BAD

  • Sony need to sort out backward compatibility ASAP, they are far behind Microsoft. Xbox X has compatibility with One, 360 and Xbox.

Come on, Sony! Whether by PS Store or PS Now, there are so many more games you could be selling to us and they’re all already out there – no need to invest in a remaster or marketing strategy. Every month this doesn’t happen is a huge missed opportunity.

I was so glad to be able to buy Bully on the PS Store as part of the PS2 Classics section. Ratchet and Clank PS2 games, R&C: Tools of Destruction, Burnout series, LotR: RotK are the ones I’m personally looking for.

  • This whole thing about the PS5 is a real mess as everyone here is saying! I sent the following DM to Playstation but as I mentioned below I highly doubt I will ever hear back.. Not sure when https://playstation.com/en-us/ps5/buy-now/ would actually open up to maybe purchase it there (and yes, I along with you all signed up to hopefully get a pre-order invite months ago) but I am but one of the tired masses who stayed up for nothing :( Here is my tale of woes that I sent late last night to these bots (since again I doubt any human from Sony will even look at twitter.. :(

“Good day. I got an e-mail yesterday at 8:30pm EST from Best Buy about the pre-order (thought it was today?!) & already @BestBuy @Target @GameStop @Amazon and @Walmart said it was already sold out after 3 minutes?!?!?! What kind of scam is going on here?? I also have a Sony online account (signed up for pre-sale notif 3 weeks ago!) and of course no preorder notice :( and I am 100% sure I will never hear from @Sony @PlayStation either unfortunately. All that matters are the bots, not someone who actually really wants it for his child’s birthday and not some scalper to sell it for $800 on ebay (which I did see!!) :( Why even sign up on your site for pre-sale notification when you really dont utilize that? I don’t really expect a response but after staying up literally most of last night for nothing, I am pretty upset :( #AlreadyDisappointed “

  • It’s ridiculous how a company can release pre order when they don’t own any rights to do that. Mean while the ones who actually spend more then what consoles worth for on games and time consumption get screwed. I didnt even receive a email both from psn or anyone else. I smell lawsuit coming soon lol

  • The whole pre-order system that happened was a joke for a lot of actually fans of the system and totally could have been dome better.

  • Pre-Orders available Thursday….Just kidding pre-orders will be sold out by then. Lol

  • i know i get a email yesterday and when i went to pre order it was all sold out every where. but if you go onto ebay you will see why its all sold out you can get a ps5 for 2,500.00 dollars and some for 700.00 or 800,00 dollars, this is BS. i don’t know why sony would put up with this crap, but its a momey maker i see. i will just have to wait till the new batch comes out hopefully before christmas

  • Play has No limits …..also no stock!

  • Just wondering why are we paying $750 UD dollars for the ps5 in south africa

  • How come i did not receive an email that pre-orders were available? what number can i call to get an invite to preorder happening soon??

    • Its based on your recent PS activity, and even then you might not get selected

Fortunately for me I got an email from Sony

  • Dear Sony, 80 euro for a game is obscene. We all got the explanation of the Unreal Engine how making games would become much easier with less work (not make 4 trees in different scale, stuff like that). You also said your studios will put out twice as much games next gen (definitely due to that). Above that there are more gamers than ever buying your games (we’ve all seen the sails figures) so you are doing great. Dumping your older games on PC (for $40) also is an extra revenue stream. So no, games aren’t going to be more expensive to make. And no $70 isn’t the same as 80 euro’s (even after tax). So no sales on day 1, I can wait, a long time…

  • Is anyone els having trouble with the selected member PS5 pre-order email? I cant pre-order a PS5 even with being selected. Can anyone help me? I can order all the accessories just not the actual console.

  • I’ve been a customer of yours for decades. I’ve spent thousands and thousands with you Guys. I watched your live even you said pre orders are starting today . Was that a lie ? Because I wake up and everyone sold out last night. I can’t believe after all these years I’m going to buy a Xbox. This is not how life long customers should be treated. And it’s disgusting that you have people on Ebay selling your pre orders for over 1000 dollars. I’ve never felt so unappreciated by a company in my life . I just want to know why did you guys lie and say pre orders start today and they all sold out last night? And why wouldn’t you give your PSN customers that have been paying for Ps plus before it was even mandatory a first shot at pre orders . That’s how things work I support you I expect the same in return. So if I get a chance to preorder Xbox I will and it’s sad to say that when I’ve been with your company for decades. Unacceptable unbelievable and down right wrong . Long standing customer signing out for probably ever . ✌️

    • I feel you dude, its frustrating as hell and the executive email make no sense when teres no PS5’s to buy anymore. Its honestly sad. They rushed all this last minuet to one up XboX and in the end they screwed up everything.

    • I feel ya. Its absolute bull crap. All those people scalping unuts should be hung by their underpants from flag poles.

  • What a scam, “you’ll have ample notice” aka we will lie an say Thursday when in reality its gonna drop like ten minutes after our tweet. Hell even the tweet/blog post was garbage way to tell everyone how about an email a week in advanced so everyone has the chance to see and be ready to preorder. Love how there is over 5k of these on eBay rn thanks for the great launch Xbox series X here I come.

  • I thought Sony said we will be invited via email especially fully blown PlayStation members. Pre-orders are out in all the retailers. Amazon is not saying anything.
What really went wrong? i could only pre-order the dual-sense controller, games and the camera but no game console.
    very sad 😞

  • I look forward to the ps5. I have had every Playstation console that has come out. But I am disappointed in their handling of pre orders and the amount of units being released. Its rediculous. I just dont understand how after putting out systems for 20 something years they can’t treat their consumers with a little more respect.

  • PlayStation all day cool looking upgrade nice

  • What happend to giving us plenty of heads up on pre orders you seriously screwed that up also how could I not be chosen ive had 3 ps 1s, 4 ps 2s, 4 ps 3s, and have 3 ps 4s 2 of em pros and 338 digital purchased games for ps4 alone. How f n loyal do you have to be to be chosen.

    • I’m in the same boat my friend. Not to mention PSP and PS Vita. They did us customers real dirty and I believe they should atleast make a public statement, apology, stating it wasn’t intentional. 🤦🏽‍♂️

  • no black version ? 🤨😏
