PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • I signed up for notifications on PS5 news a long time ago so I could be among “the first to know” and was not notified about this! Just decided to google to see if any new info was out and of course I missed by a day. If this happened to anyone else your not alone in being annoyed by this. You dropped the ball on this one Sony! Loyal fans skipped over, but I’m still gonna buy one. One day.

  • Good day,

Would there be avenue to trade in my PS4 pro console?

    1. If yes, what’s the cost Implication?
    2. If yes, will such offer be across globe.

    Regards
    Femi

  • LittleBigPlanet was a big game of my childhood. But 70€ for Sackboy: A big adventure is a big no

Btw, what’s up with European prices? PS5s have the same price as US, dualsense has the same price as US, but digital games are 10€ up which makes every major game around $95? What’s the point? I usually buy games two years after release, I guess I’ll now buy them a whole generation later.

  • Hi, will all the digital games we have purchase on PS4 transfer over to the PS5? Also will there be a list of Physical PS4 games that can be played on PS5? Just want to know whether to sell the PS4 or not? Thanks

    • So they came out and said 99% of all PS4 games play without issue. Yes you can even play your digital games on the PS5. I don’t remember when, but they said that if you use an external drive for games on the PS4 that drive will still work on the ps5 but only for ps4 games. You will need a higher spec external drive for ps5 games.

  • Kind of sucks that we would be given “plenty of notice” of when preorders go live yet all major retailers sold out the night BEFORE Sony announced they would even be taking them. I logged into Best Buy the second I got the email it went live. Was able to put one in my cart but not checkout because the site kept crashing. Also the lack of communication as to whether we were selected to purchase directly from
Sony or not makes the issue worse. Fingers crossed.

    • You guys should be blaming Walmart, they literally tweeted out screw you Sony we are opening pre orders now and then all of the other companies scrambled to open theirs which led to the complete cluster that we experienced on Wednesday night. Thankfully, I managed to get mine from Best Buy but not until midnight that night.

  • I’m sorry but it was a poorly launched for Preorder after a GREAT Showcase earlier in the day to create a launch at @ 12am EST, it doesn’t create an equal plain field for everyone to get an equal chance of getting a shot. Thanks Sony

  • It’s sad the way the pre order went, but obviously the retailers are pretty out of control. We can’t blame that on Sony. As far as the actual Sony pre orders, anyone that got an invite, congrats! Seeing as game prices are up across the board, we will just play more with what we have. I’m looking forward to the new features coming out on the ps5 and I want to know about nvme compatibility to upgrade my storage. For all the haters out there, I hope you can find something to make you happy other than grumbling because things are not just like you want it. I lived in the days of Pong, so getting a new GoW is by far superbly awesome, regardless of the price.

  • I watched religiously for pre-order emails.took my eyes off it for 1 hour and boom no pre-order for me. At this point I don’t care if I have to get the XBox Series X. Would rather get the PS5, but which ever is easier is the one I will get.

    • Agree, maybe time to switch to XBox.
Always wanted an XBox, maybe time to get one. Would teach Sony a lesson …

    • I mean get the system that you prefer, but seriously, the pre-orders weren’t launched early by Sony, it was Walmart and then every other company rushing to open up so they didn’t miss out. Sony has already said that there would be more waves of pre order and that there would be more in stores at launch than there were for the PS4.

Also, why Xbox? They literally have no games? At least get a PC instead so you could play games with higher specs.

  • Anyone excited For The New God Of War Ragnarok? I know I definitely am 😃

  • Preorder where support to go live today but they were are sold out last night this sucks

  • Thank you Sony for such a smooth roll out of your system. The Pre Order times and dates so that everyone could be ready, were released in a timely fashion, worked really well. I know you guys have not done this before; so if there are any hick-ups they are to be forgiven. Just wanted to let you know how impressed I am that I didn’t get a chance to get order one due to your smooth roll out.

  • PS5 Power Consumption 350 Watt, wait, WHAT? 😵

  • Whats up with Pre Orders? Sold out everywhere and i didnt even get a email or alert?

  • I guess I was a lucky one. Got the Digital Only edition (Haven’t purchased physical media in over 6 years). I got the email on Wednesday from Best Buy at 5:31 PM PDT while I was cooking dinner. Didn’t see the email until 7:18 PM PDT, I was frustrated, but I logged on to see if anything could be done…. Because of Best Buy’s website having glitchy behavior surrounding how “far” into the purchase I could get, then it would switch to Coming Soon, then Add to Cart, then Not Available, and then back to Add to Cart, I proceeded to add to cart and continue to attempt check out by clicking until I get an error, “rinse and repeat” for 5 hours straight. My pre-order was finally confirmed Thursday at 12:07 AM PDT. It took some work, but I will be playing Godfall and Cyberpunk on the PS5 come November. Good luck everyone, and may the odds be ever in your favor…. Game on!

    • That is almost the exact thing that happened to me except I was sitting at my pc ssince 530 lol… I confirmed just after midnight.

  • Sony is a joke! You have millions of people wanting to buy this new system you’ve created, but could only create so many. You’ve been building this system up and even went on note saying you’re going to stop the madness that came when people purchased the ps3 and ps4 by creating more systems. I went to reserve a system last night as soon as it dropped and like the ps3 and ps4 my son will have to wait once again! I’m sick of trying to buy my son a system from this fruit cake company! Xbox here I come! Pretty sad that I’ve been a fan of Sony for 20+years and all that will be coming to an end! Bye Sony! Thanks for all your broken promises! Time to move on!

  • If I get the Digital Edition will I have to rebuy every physical game I have for PS4 as digital for the PS5 or will I be able to upgrade to the digital version with no extra cost?

    • of course you will.

    • With a few exceptions, no company has that sort of upgrade system, while it would be nice, it would definitely hurt game sales since you could just give your friend all of your disks. At least this gen you don’t have to pay for most of the cross gen upgrades of the same media type

  • What a joke…was told we would get ample time for notifications for preorders(nope), signed up for notifications at 5 different retailers(no notifications sent). Now sold out everywhere. What a joke…

    • They didn’t want to glorify a time for pre orders to go out, because they didn’t want scalpers buying 5 of them. they knew they couldn’t stop scalpers so they circulated rumours that pre orders would be tied to usernames, gamestop and eb in us, smyths toys and game.co.uk in uk, their pre-orders went live 10 mins after the reveal yesterday. again, circulating rumours about pre orders on twitter as the reveal is happening to get gamers looking for the consoles. 2 hours after the reveal 80% are sold out globally.

    • Not sure where you get your info Matt but it’s wrong. I know you posted earlier, but Sony has confirmed there are more PS5 pre order waves coming, just like every gen. They have also said that there are more PS5s that will be ready to go than there were PS4s for launch. So just relaxed and keep looking

  • Sony is very disappointing, how y’all go live at stores but don’t give no one a heads up for pre orders now every where is sold out what a disgrace

    • Don’t blame Sony, blame the culprits: retailers!

    • Sony doesn’t have the ability to control retailers man. Sony wanted it to go live Thursday and Walmart tweeted out that they weren’t listening to Sony. I don’t get why people are so ready to blame a company for something they have no control over

That’s Sheeple for you I guess

  • One thing that needs to be answered..

Can PSVR on PS5 use the PS5 HD camera? I mean kinda dumb to need to have the PS4 camera if itsd backwards compatible” I mean do I need a PS4 controller to play my PS4 games on PS5? no. Why should I have to keep both cameras lol

  • What about a digital GTA five ark elder strolls Minecraft Uno Yu-Gi-Oh call of duty infinite warfare call of duty war zone all the old games on the PS4 are they gonna be able to transfer to the PS five a lot of people are not gonna be happy if they have everybody’s games it probably no longer available

  • Sony i’m Confused. it says that demons souls is $69.99, which would make the uk version no more then 64.99 atleast, yet it says nothing about uk price.. and we’re apparently paying the £70 price here? can you guys count?

spider man miles morales is a rebranded ps4 dlc it’s a 29.99 game at best, why are you charging 50 dollars and apparently £50 for it? charge people 9.99 to upgrade the spider man original game if they want to, but why would we care if we’ve already played it, you can’t bundle in something people don’t care about and call it good value. charging 20 quid more then you should lol.

Showing devil may cry 5 and fortnite during a PS5 reveal event? rumours have been circulating about big name games, shut the rumours down or show them? there’s a vast quantity of people out there who don’t like souls games and could just as easily buy xbox to play the games they are interested in, if your trying to win people over your going about it all wrong.

  • I’m not paying 80 EUR for a game. Not gonna happen, goodbye Sony…

  • No thanks to all the greedy retailers that prematurely went live with preorders last nights. Fortunately, I have an invite from Sony to preorder one tomorrow morning. 😎

  • Sony….. I am so confused right now. I just want to know what happened? I have been a fan for years like many others and I knew coming into this that there would be a rush to get a console, but I thought I would have more of a warning than this. Still a fan but really disappointed in how pre orders went.

  • I worry about the bot resellers buying all the ps5 and selling them on ebay for triple the price.

  • Really disappointed at Sony’s hand of the pre order launch. Been a long time fan. Like really REALLY disappointed. I could go on and on but I’m refraining.

  • This is great I was just talking to someone about how much that ps5 would be I was think it would be some where around 600 bucks but it’s a 100 bucks cheaper that’s that best news I’ve gotten this year lol it’s lit baby !!!!!!

  • Wondering what sony is going to do for us that weren’t notified that retailers were releasing preorders a day early and missed out.

  • They all gone on ebay, good luck trying not to get ripped off.

  • PS5 sold out everywhere! When will be the next pre-order?

  • Its a shame that a big corporation like Sony can’t come up with a way of getting new products to people that really want them. I never received any notification that pre orders were available for the PS5 and I signed up everywhere. I tried for 4 hours last night to order one but they were all gone. Today, I can find thousands of them listed on Ebay for 3 times the normal price. All the Scalpers and Scammers got them. At this point, I’ll never try again or buy a Sony product until they fix the problem.

  • Can’t wait till the console launches

  • Do I need to buy a PS5 on release to have access to these games, or do I only need to have PS+ to add them to my library?

  • White colour console? No thanks i will wait for black and red or just black, no pre order for me, just sad :(

  • So if I have a PS4 with digital games on my extended drive, how do I migrate those games (and saves) onto a PS5 console? Plug n’ play, I hope?

  • Being a hardcore PC gamer, I’m super excited to get PS5 as my 1st console ❤️

All I care is PS5 titles
    1. GhostOfTsushima
    2. GodofWar & GodOfWar Ragnarok
    3. SpiderMan Remastered & SpiderMan Miles Morales ❤️

Would be more than happy if PS5 hits minimum 60fps at 1440p or 4k 30/60fps

  • ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ GIVE IT TO ME NOW

  • When are the e-mails going out so I can preorder

  • Noce job screwing over longtime customers announcing preorders were today only to do them last night instead.

  • Totally unacceptable PS5 preorder fiasco !!!
I hope more units are on the way …

  • So if I got the exclusive to pre order can I do payments or do i have to buy it out

  • Great job at botching the pre-orders for your fans and letting the scalpers get them. By the interest of how many signed up to pre order directly from you, you could have taken into the account of the advantage of having it in your fans hands first. The people who actually spend money on your brand. I’ve spend so much money on the PSN store it’s crazy I didn’t get an invite code.

  • I am really disappointed in how Sony has handled the pre-orders. It seems to value money over the customer. Will have to vote with my wallet. Definitely some lies throughout this whole process.

  • Are there gonna be anymore preorders coming

  • Is everything sold out

  • Jim Ryan I am very disappointed that sony announced that the ps5 would be available for preorder on the 17th of September. Then contacted the retailers and let them start selling them around 8 Pm on the 16th. After checking every day for the last month for preorder availability and then watching the event yesterday I was online at 11:30 pm waiting to order only to fine them sold out hours before that. I can’t help but feel I was lied to by Sony along with the other people that watches the event yesterday. I hope this is not the way my future with Sony Playstation is going. Thanks

  • …so when do we get that email about pre ordering the system? Apparently they are already sold out?

  • Great it sounds awesome! I hope the launch is better than the preorder process. That sucked!

  • Are the waves of emails letting us know if we can pre order, done? I’m hoping it was just the first wave, but if im wrong… then whatever…. ill just get a ps5 in January.

  • Sad that sony never announced after yesterdays stream that pre orders were going live after the stream..now its sold out EVERYWHERE..really really bad pre order release..what ever happened to the millions of consoles made strictly for north america? Theres no way that the pre orders were millions..again this was a horrible way to open pre orders..by just opening them.with no announcement..sony dropped the ball atleast microsoft got the pre order set up right!!!
