PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

*Availability in each country subject to local import regulations. PS5 launch date for China is still under exploration and will be announced at a later date.

  • No UK game prices and bizarrely screwing over those in Europe on their prices. Those using European stores will be paying the equivalent of $94 a game. Dropped the ball on UK pre-orders too. Soured my feelings over next gen and that event had me hyped.

  • So aint my passion for gaming makin me pay alot first of all i need to pay 500$ to buy a console then 70$ to buy a game and then another 60$ to play it online

  • I watched the presentation, I was still disappointed. its stuff that I already knew tbh.

I was more keen on getting more information on what Sony or Playstation is gonna do with their live service (PSPlus).
Presenting a PS Plus Collection that most PS Plus member already have except for a select few and thats it.

Unfortunately as it stands as much as its more expensive per month… Xbox Ultimate Game Pass or even the Xbox All Access is much much more attracting. Value for the money is way more than what Playstation has to offer.

In the end of it all, Playstation can only offer me Exclusive Titles which is bad :3

  • In a world full of micro transactions, there’s absolutely NO REASON why game prices should increase

  • for those of u who don’t live in Europe and probably don’t understand why we are upset about this:

    80 euros means 95 dollars.

so we don’t really have a problem paying extra 10 euros for every next gen game that comes out but we don’t understand why we have to pay 25 dollars extra while others from different parts of the world pay less.

    • seems like you dont understand how TAX are applied in luxury goods, in this case the games in EU…

u should blame EU or your local government as they actually slap high tax value on the games you buy.

its simple, say Sony sells the game $70 in US

now they bring the same game to EU, its still $70 then EU applies Taxes on that, it becomes $90. so in Sony’s eyes.. why would they sell it for $70 in EU and lose $15 orso

    • Actually no, $70 with 20% sales tax becomes $84, which is 70 Euros.

  • Can the disc version also play and download digital games? I would expect yes. So hopefully it can

    • Yes, Disc version is basically Digital version with a Disc drive.

    • Yes, just the way current PS4 all play Disc/Digital. It’s always best to have two options.

Avoid the Digital Edition at all costs. That Edition is all about Greed and Control.

  • $70 for games?!! Yeah imma head out. Won’t be getting games at launch anymore screw that.

    • I prefer buying physical games, and waiting a few more months for them to come down in price. I buy all my PS4 games brand new and sealed.

I’m still waiting for Sekiro to drop to £20.00 😂 I’ll wait.

    • @Strangeheaven you don’t want to get spoiled do you 😈
(Dw I’m not gonna spoil anything)

  • When the UI will be revealed?

  • This is absurd the game prices!!! Euros are more worth than dollars. Sony is really greedy and was greedy on ps4. Thats why u can get a ps5 for 400, because they will milk you on games. They are hiding backwards compatability for ps4 games. Will I be able to download games a bought and play them on ps5? That’s the question you should be asking. I spent a lot of money on ps4 games and they can easily work on ps5 if sony allowed that. Never trust Sony they can’t wait until you buy a ps5 and get scammed. Buy an lg oled

    • @the-b3ts777

Yeah I’ve noticed that. Sony are not being clear on Backwards Compatibility on PS4 games. If the PS5 is not fully backwards on all PS4 games, they can go jump off a cliff.

  • 80€ for demon souls? How much xbox is charging for games? Huh? 80 money is a lot of money. Don’t buy a ps5 unless you want to feed them. And remember ps4 bluescreens at launch. Same will be with ps5.

    • Xbox is selling its games $15 a month. But in general, I have a feeling MS won’t increase its first-party prices (like who would buy Halo Infinite for $70?)

  • i am so disgusted in sony with how they handled this crap. Iv never seen such piss poor effort in a system launch. i do not care what excuses they make. after this crap i dont even mind buying a xbox after being such a avid user knowing some dumb 10 year old or some tween gets a consol they would never really appreciate. i dont care if u got one and i didnt. the fact they showed little concern or care for the actual people who game way better than most aka me. and yea im better than any of u for sure. couldnt even get one because of the bs they pulled. pff il just go get a xbox. sony aint getting crap from me. njoy ur “launch tittles” sheep. dont matter what system i play on anyway. im morbidly disgusted in sony for that crap they pulled. say what u want dorks. iv heard it all and ul just give me a sheeps reply with some intricate words. horra for u for being lingual. yall are lost anyway.

  • How is backwards compatibility working with PS4? Will we be able to just plug in our Extended Storage drives and go, or are we going to have to redownload and possibly use a dedicated external?

  • I’m sorry sony but you don’t want me to be a jerk, but you kinda are by charging european player 80 euro for games, when everywhere else gets them cheaper, please tell me how that works

  • Pre Order?

  • I want to buy the PS5 PRO on Nov 19, I want a more powerful system, take my $700!!!

  • I hate i missed Pre-order….DANG

  • Somehow all of your pre-orders got sold out the evening before they were even stated to. A fan since PS1 release day in 95 and we get screwed because of scalpers. I really hope more open up tomorrow.

  • The new camera to be launched with PS5 will work with the PS VR? Or only works with the last camera with the adaptor?

  • Luckily, I was able to pre-order a PS5 physical edition early. Demon’s Souls and Spiderman are my launch games. Been lucky to have been able to get every PlayStation system at launch since the PSone!

    • Is Sony pushing out more pre order allocations?
Purchased 2k21 for ps4 and ps5 but never got a pre order since they all sold out.

  • Where do l go to pre order Ps5

  • 80 euros for a game 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I’m completely fine with the PS5 console’s prices, but the games’ prices? Absolutely not. Think I’m just going to be perpetually one year behind on all releases, and buy them in sales. For the price of 3½ newly-released PS5 games, you can buy a Switch or a Series S. I’m not made of money 😅

  • Sony you really mismanaged preorders real well.

  • @lastoffireflies

Games wouldn’t need to cost more if they had the right people in these companies. It’s all bad management and bad practice.

Heck I was shocked that Naughtydog never had a Production Team in place while making TLOU2.

  • PS Now service not opening Turkey area i not buy PS5 ..!

Sorry but i am not idiot for 70-80 $ for a game !

  • Remember to buy a new 4K folks with Hdmi 2.1.

To put it simply, if you want the best out of your PS5 expect to pay £1,800.00.

Id recommend the LG Bx 55inch that starts at £1,299.00/$1,599.00 and is PS5 and Xbox Series X ready.

  • @luckymouse
You’re right in that I am referring only to price in my market (US), and since OP referenced a $70 price tag, I’m assuming they’re in the same region. The markup in the EU is ridiculous and shameful, and I’d be curious what the justification for it is.

  • I don’t know if Covid is a factor, but that is one weak launch lineup. No system seller.

I’m happy to wait for Returnal, Stray, GT7, Horizon etc before jumping in. Hopefully there will be one in black by then too.

  • Can’t wait until pre-orders go live!

Probably going to get the digital edition since I don’t have much need for the bluray player nowadays.

I’m a little disappointed the price of games will be going up but I guess it can’t be helped. Hopefully there will be more and even better deals on PSN to compensate.

Demon’s Souls and Spider-man are going to make pretty good launch titles :)

    • @U_NO_HOO

You say that there will be better deals on the store. I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Once Sony has no other competition, they can then monopolise the pricing to suit themselves. This is why Sony is banking on the Digital Edition for there own gains, not for the consumer.

The Digital Only Edition is about Greed and Control.

When it comes to the film industry. I’d recommend everyone to keep there Blu-rays. Especially of old classics and cult films. You won’t see these films on Netflix anytime. And even when they are on Netflix, there soon removed again by the film companies. It’s all about the monopoly.

I’ve got so many good films on Blu Ray that have now been deleted no where to be seen on online media. It’s always best to keep them.

But it’s always best to have choices and options. 👍😊

  • So will video game stores in shopping centres sell codes for digital versions of games or just discs? This will determine which version of console I’ll buy.

  • Hola, alguien sabe de la pre venta en chile y valor?

  • No luck getting a launch day console. Cannot believe BestBuy and having to wait hours to find out that the system was not available. Added it to my cart and made it all the way through to entering my cc. 3rd party preorders disappointed. Hopefully, Sony will take care of us today with a direct link to preorder.

    • I hope so to I have been with them for a very long time! This would be the first system I would miss out on because of this mess of a pre-order launch! Here’s to hoping I get one and you do as well!

  • I´m realy dissapointed from Sony´s pre ordering in europe. It was not possible to order a console for normal working guy´s. (00:15 am to 3:00 am, then sold out!!!!)

    @Sony: That was not the plan! ! F… ..f

  • I’m still trying to figure out why we can’t pre order u got workers at game stop act like they can’t pick up the phone……

  • So I sign up for a chance at preorder. Received no email. Called gamestop to verify preorder date right after live stream, and they say Sept. 22, so i relax. Now sold out?? I am beyond angry. This is BS. Thx Sony. You lost a customer of 25 years. No more junk controllers for $65 at least.

  • They need to enhance these titles to 60fps and I’ll bite, already played/own most of them

  • Preorders won’t happen “in a minutes notice” – Sony

Intentionally imbeded extremely vague preorder information with a single post-showcase sentence. -also Sony

Supply (and likely quality) are compromised and you lost me as a customer. Hey, at least I gave you a ‘notice’.

  • I tried to get a PlayStation 5 but every place gets sold out or the website keeps crashing when is Sony releasing their pre-orders

  • Bonjour,

    Cordialement.

  • These notifications from Best Buy is a joke they sent me a notification grab a PlayStation 5 on their website and when I get there it’s already sold out in 10 minutes I feel like this is a joke the only one I have not receive an email from is Sony so I better get one soon

  • Will all PS4 games being Disc or Digital take advantage of PS5 capabilities automatically like Xbox? 🤔

If not, then why Sony, why?

  • Work from your house for two to six hrs every day, and start getting averaging 1000-3000 bucks at the end of every week. Read more information here……………xurl.es/DollarsPays

  • I refreshed Coolblue and Bol’s websites for the pre release sales. I was waiting to order my Ps5 with accessories. Yet I read this blog entry and immediately after seeing the prices, I decided not to. sony has lost me as a customer. I am sorry but 80 Euro for a single digital game which include no production costs, etc.. is simply unacceptable.

Especially when world’s biggest economy USA you sell the same game for 58Euro. If Sony thinks they can screw European customers, then they are greatly mistaken.

I’ll order Xbox with game pass and use that. yeah sucks to loose God of War but I am not going to support a company whom tries to take advantage of us.

  • Had a thought this morning. If there is supposed to be plenty of consoles available for launch (not meaning preorder), then did Sony troll the scalpers who will buy a bunch pre-ordered and then not be able to sell at ridiculous prices because the shelves will be full? If people are patient this might prove true. Here’s hoping this mess of a launch actually has a purpose.

  • No damn way,I saw people talking about this but so it’s true games will be $70 from now on…I usually pre-order very very few games but anyway that’s extremely messed up and 825gb the HDD?…damn Sony couldn’t you put 1TB?…thats lame.

    • Oh yes nice job making Sackboy,Horizon 2 and mile’s game available for PS4…after all that talk that your uuh “next-gen” games would not be available for PS4 guess y’all realized where your playerbase will be the most haha. Can’t believe Horizon 2 will be on PS4 though.

  • The pre-order situation is proof enough that Jim Ryan and Eric Limpel must be fired just like how they shut Sony Liverpool, Cambridge and many more responsible for many Playstation franchises, boot them off to Stadia like Phil whats-his-face. Complete shambles, Right from the horrors behind the awful SCEE department.

  • I got an e-mail yesterday at 8:30pm EST from Best buy about the pre-order (thought it was today?!) & already @BestBuy @Target @GameStop @Amazon and @Walmart said it was already sold out after 3 minutes?!?!?! What kind of mess is going on here?? I also have a Sony online account and of course no preorder notice :( and I am 100% sure I will never hear from @Sony @PlayStation either unfortunately. All that matters are the bots, not someone who actually really wants it for his child and not some scalper to sell it for $800 on ebay (which I did see!!) :( Why even sign up on their site for pre-sale notification when they really dont utilize that. #AlreadyDisappointed

  • The game prices for Europe are ridiculous. IF I decide to buy a PS5 in a few years time, it will definitely be the the Disc Drive version, and I am not buying any games at full price.

  • Will it support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for bluray / streaming playback?

  • For those going back and forth about prices. Game prices will increase and you can already see that with some games like UFC4, NBA 2K21 and more to come. Getting “Digital Only” console will be costly.

  • that’s a really slim launch line up. and probably a long drought will come after it as well. couple that with the insane game prices, especially in Europe and the huge size of the console, I might just wait for the PS5 slim. the console prices are ok though.
