PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • I’ve been played on preorders! So when will this loyal Sony member know about the next PS5 preorder? I’ve had every Sony game console since PlayStation 1 when it first hit the market! So please don’t do this to a very loyal Sony PlayStation member! Thanks an have a Great Day!

  • I seriously believe Sony owes us, the consumer, an apology for how the Pre-Order process played out. We were specifically told that pre-orders wouldn’t be a surprise and that we would know when pre-orders were going to start. But surprise surprise, thats not the case. At least let us loyal PlayStation customers know that Sony did not intentionally do us dirty like they did. I seriously hope I get my system come November 12th.. 😞

  • Wow, knocked it off the park.

Sadly the same can’t be said regarding pre orders. Signed up months ago for PS5 news, still no email on when pre orders opened last night!

  • Is there anyway to still preorder a PS5 which retailers has yet to go live?

  • Sony is starting to falter in my opinion. They straight up lied about having plenty of heads up on pre orders. Also I’ve owned 13 sony consoles from ps1 to ps4 pro and have 338 digital purchased games for ps4 alone and several disc but i wasn’t chosen. It makes no sense i go so far back i had the Japanese ps1 months before it came to the U.S. But guess im not loyal enough.

  • I’m just confused does the pre ordered version of the ps5 get all of the accessories with it or not? Then if I get it Nov. 12th does It come with the accessories too or not or do you need to buy the accessories separately.

  • Screw the scalpers. Don’t buy from them. Just wait until the console comes out a few months later. Let them sit on their multiple PS5s and have to sell them at a loss.

  • All I ask is for there to be plenty to go around as these are obviously selling like hot cakes. Regardless, I can’t wait to get mine. I just can’t bare to continue to see that there are some j-cats who go immediately on Ebay only to sell it for like (no joke) $25,000 and other ridiculous prices.

Hope everyone can get theirs in due time and enjoy. At a retail price. lol

  • It’d be super cool if you guys did a few ‘inside look’ video updates or posts on some features of the console we’ve not heard much about yet, like Home UI, how playing PS4 games works, how upgrades from PS4 to PS5 work, etc. I know I’d appreciate extra info like this about the new console!

  • Any information on a larger SSD option/upgrade?

  • is there anywhere I could pre order????

  • Hey Sony! Thanks for the heads up on pre-orders! You literally lied to everyone when you said you wouldn’t surprise us when pre-orders would be available!! Thought you were better than Microsoft when it came to deceiving your customers! Shame!

    • Yep and their twitter account tweeted out they’d be up for preorder from retailers today when they were basically all sold out last night. Just like ps3 all over again where no one can get one. Let’s release a console for holidays so no one can get one smh bunch of clowns

    • I’m probably going to switch to xbox on the 22nd if they do like they say unlike sony. I hope many others do too.

  • Also what happened to letting us know what SSD we need to upgrade our storage? PS now and plus details?

  • Thanks for the horrible launch of pre-orders, and basically lying to your customers. Guess I’ll get one in March when they come back in stock. Hopefully by some luck we will get a second wave?

    • probably just going to make the switch to xbox if they do there’s the way they’re supposed to on the 22nd. This really turned me off.

  • So, if I read this correctly, select retailers are offering pre-orders. What about those who registered for an opportunity to pre-order? Is Sony ignoring that? Have they just decided that due to the cut back in production that is out the window? Every retailer site I’ve been to offering Pre-orders has been broken.

  • Anyone else sign up for pre-orders back in August but still havent received the email?

  • Hi Sony, i want to know if we can expand storage by adding an additional compatible SSD?

  • Praying and hoping I get a invite for pre-order, registered as soon as I got the e-mail. Other sites crashing, or intermittent outages sucked trying to get. Had one in cart at GameStop.com, only due system to go down and then told no longer available. Can’t go out since asthma, pancreatitis, and heart issues make me a risk for Covid, so couldn’t do that, even if places were allowing insure. Just want one thing to go right in 2020, and now that seems unlikely. Fingers cross I get one of those emails, might be my only hope. 😢

  • Pre Orders to start on the 17th? Yeah right. Sony you know what you did, and you oh it to us loyal gamers to have a fair chance to pre order. We subscribed to you and been following to for over a year on the PS5, to get no notice in return. Absolutely disgusting. I am for one legitimately upset over the matter that no pre orders are to be found, and early this morning.

  • What’s going on???

  • Pre-orders went off exactly how Eric Lempel assured us they would :/

  • Did anyone get the email to preorder from Sony? It would be nice to have some confirmation if the emails went out or not so we don’t wait on it

  • I want to know why I signed up to not get a pre-order. The way they distributed this pre-order process is complete trash. You had so many pre orders for the PlayStation 4 why can’t you do the same now. You’ve had 7 years of development. I’ve been a PlayStation fan since the first one.. hopefully a second wave comes through. Can only pray

    • most likely switching to xbox if they get there pre orders right. Not falling for the second wave either cause how can you trust when it’s going to happen even if they tell you.

  • Can’t wait to get my hands on a PS5 but disappointed that Sony didn’t seize the opportunity to celebrate 25 years of PlayStation consoles and games by including backward compatibility with PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. If Microsoft can do it so can Sony. And PSP/Vita games sold on the PS store would be appreciated.

  • Love how playstations twitter account tweeted out ps5 would be up for preorder today but they were basically all sold out last night smh. This is going to be just like the ps3 all over again where no one can get the console because they didn’t mass produce it. Great job Sony smh bunch of clowns

  • This all looks cute but since there was no advanced notice on preorders it looks like I won’t be getting anything any of this anytime this year.

  • Where is the fiber optic port??

  • It might be an exciting time for you but for us – the customers it’s been frustrating from the lack of communication regarding mess you and the retailers created with PS5 preorders. Many of us signed up to get notified but never did. Many people woke up to find all launch PS5’s had sold out without having a chance to buy one. And you still are remaining silent on your colossal F UP

  • Oh wow. good looking out on the advanced notice on preorders! /s

    • looks like the only people who got preorders were bots and scalpers. it would be sort of nice if sony at least issued some sort of statement on their screw up

  • Thanks for the email giving me the heads up on the pre order. NOT. I I quess I wasn’t a good enough customer even though I signed up.

  • So when can I expect pre orderes again? They did already happen before you said they would so when’s the actual date and time? Also remember the country India? There are buyers here too you know?

  • the only jerks i see is sony. I’m sure like many others i trusted there lies on when the pre-orders began and totally got the shaft as i got up and stood in line to pre-order only to find out it was sold out the day before they said it was starting. So now I’m leaving sony for xbox where the pre orders are set up and I’ll spend my money elswhere.

  • Welp no E-mail from Sony for me, looks like the first system I won’t get day one now. Have had every system, multiple of each even 2 pro’s with 2 regular. Now I won’t get the chance to have one day one. Sure there are TON’s on Ebay, which isn’t fair because a lot of those people used bots to get their preorders. I just want to say thanks for telling us all that hey we won’t let it be a surprise this time. We will let you all know in advance! This way you won’t be surprised. How is it Microsoft can manage to hold their preorders until next week even with the prices released but you guys couldn’t do it this time? I’m not saying good bye to Sony but I am deeply saddened that I didn’t even get the Sony e-mail invite! Look at my Akahawk name I have been with this company ever since you could have a name on playstation with this very same name. I have never once changed it. I have had plus since it came out. I had the og Ps3 even though it costed way more. I never faltered once. It’s not based on activity this I know because very few people have more hours than I do on the system. Sad days for me.

I am not posting this to have people say anything, I am posting this because I am disappointed in myself for believe them and not being ready the day before just in case. Thanks Sony! (Still trying and hoping to get a PS5 though haven’t given up yet!)

  • Wow ! I was enjoying the Sony showcase while other gamers didn’t care for it and end up fortunately seeing Pre-ordering is live.

This is DIRTY gameplay Sony. I always know Sony represent Japan HONOR .
The Samurai maker didn’t Honor the Samurai gamers.

No notification from showcase when was preorder live. Excellent showcase and positioning games to show timing.

Forgiveness accepted and apologize is waiting. Hope you put a date on the next preorder and amount production.

I want to see a PS5 tear down on SSD tech io cooling system with devs and Cerny.

  • All black with white trim or blue trim version?

  • Im ready for the disc version

  • So we gamers going nuts on Sony showcase.

Sony went nuts because gamers went nuts on showcase and press the preorder live.

Then stores went nuts while Sony went nuts and the gamers.

The don’t care on showcase gamers, Xbots, pc, parents went nuts when someone went nuts on social media.

Then we PlayStation gamers went nuts on social media.

At the end of this epic Sony showcase, we majority gamers got nothing but t bag not nuts.

  • In HK, I’m waiting the Sony store just wait wait and wait. I waited, just said loading. I can’t to buy. Why not to provide to existing member? Very 😡

  • Sony you sure botched the preorder released date and for sure did not take any responsibility for it. What a mess and a lot of disappointed players that got left out with no idea on what to do next. Shame on you for not keeping your word and given us the heads on when to start to preorder the new console. Thanks anyway for nothing. Sincerely your WarriorHost.

  • I’m frustrated with SONY. What was the point of me taking time out of my life to go fill out some pre order nonsense to only not get an invitation to pre order anything? I feel a certain way about that, especially considering i’m sure a great percentage of people who signed up to pre order are kids without even 1o dollars to their name. This company NEVER announced when you could order at retailers. The communication is abysmal and the supply chain is clear broken. This is ridiculous.

  • I don’t mind adding +10$ to the game price if you will add more time on the game duration – we need more time and more open world games that takes at leate from 70 to 120h this extra cost must be value to the contint

  • I’m sorry but I must say it – the console itself is just ugly. I really hope there will be more colors available and maybe design revision (ps5 slim or something) pretty soon.

  • I know you guys can’t be pleased with the way pre orders were handled by retailers. Since Sony did not announce pre-orders during the presentation and then tweeted that they would be on the 17th, can Sony Sue retailers for selling pre-orders prematurely? By them doing that it makes Sony look like a liar which would be defamation of character or libel or something like that right? Will you be forcing all retailer pre-orders to be canceled and then trying it again in a more professional way? I’m so disgusted by the retailers that I don’t even want to buy one anywhere except directly from Sony. You don’t deserve the absolute disrespect and lack of professionalism these retailers have presented with your name and amazing product.

  • Killed all hype with pre-order fiasco. Thanks for allowing the people living off tax payers to hoard your ps5 systems. Some of us still have physical jobs and can’t be watching the internet 24/7.

I won’t be buying anymore Sony products, as you haven’t learned many of these people acquired numerous systems to resell for $1,000+ on Ebay, Offer up, Marketplace etc…

Probably did it on purpose to create even more chaos in our world….feed off the famine.

  • So a new game is 80 € in Europe and 70 $ in the US.

80 € = around 95 $. That makes games 15 $ more expensive in Europe. Digital PSN releases.

If you guys have an explanation of how that shouldn’t feel like getting ripped off as a European, I’d love to hear it.

    • thats 25$ more expensive, not 15, mistyped there. A third of the price!

    • Don’t blame Sony for it. US prices are without sales tax while EU prices include VAT. So if You exclude average VAT from EU price You will get around $78. If You take into account that EU has higher net income tax I’m glad we don’t have to pay even more

  • So the UK has to pay £59.99 for a PS5 at RRP? That’s physical pricing BTW, god knows how much Digital will be, considering Digital cost alot more on the UK store.

£59.99= $77.00 Rip Off. I don’t care on how good a game it is, I can’t justify them prices.

The most I pay for any top AAA games is £15-£30 tops. I buy brand new games as well. No rush to buy games all the time at rip off prices. I’m still waiting for Sekiro Shadow’s Die Twice to drop to £20.00. I’ll keep waiting until that does.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice currently is £59.99 on the store, which is a con, 18 months after release.

    • It is a rip off £60 for a video game

I understand that inflation takes part of that but company are greedy asf so they millking us gamers of our pockets

    • You and me both, man. Still waiting for Sekiro. Between my PS4, Switch and retro consoles, I’ve years of entertainment ahead of me. The price difference between USD and EUR completely killed the hype. I don’t mind paying top money for a quality game, but only a handfull of games fall into that category. Who knows, a year of two from now we might already get an overhauled PS5 mini haha

  • I’m really not getting the hype or buzz over PS5 the way I did with PS4.

The size of the PS5 is just plain ridiculous for what it is.

Hopefully a much smaller, and redesign PS5 will be out by end of 2021-early 2022.😁👍

  • Where was my PS5 pre-order email from Sony that I registered for then? Thanks so much for not sending that to me – how helpful! 🙄😬☹️

  • Hi I was wondering if the PS5 will have native support for 2k screens at 120Hz or above.

Because I have a Dell s3220dgf monitor which has a native 2k resolution at a maximum of 144Hz through Hdmi 2.0

  • How many people actually got to pre order? We’ve been waiting months and then they drop this bomb over night and let them all go before they were supposed to. Chatted with Sony and they apologize I missed out and said follow this blog. They lied to us. We have to just take it or not. That is horrible business. I’ve pre ordered and owned every console back to the first. Even paid for that monster ps3. I’ve been very loyal to this company but they do not care about us. A new console should play new games only. Unless backwards compatibility is a major selling point, which it is not. They can’t guarantee they will all work. They gave me an address to send a letter. Right now my entire county is without power due to a hurricane and they ask me to send a letter. I told the I feel robbed, betrayed and not appreciated. I’ve spent mega bucks on all their consoles and games. Have ps plus till 2024. Where is the loyalty to the customers for buying it all these years. I got no invite to pre order. I was a beta tester for games on the psx. Not like they care how we feel. We are just pockets with money. It is an absolute slap in the face to me after all thus delaying. I will get one but in all honesty shame on you Sony. You have proven you care nothing about the customer. Maybe one day you will be sorry for mistreating customers who have stuck with you. Paid for a way over priced console only for you to drop the price and just give those that bought it a couple free crappy games.

    • If you go on amazon or other uk retailer online stores instore or online

Plenty of xbox series x on tuesday 8am
      All countries

8am uk amazon game ect preorders for xbox go live unlike sony microsoft has give us disappointing fans of sony to preorder a 9th gen console
