UPDATE: Pre-order Horizon Forbidden West now: Collector’s and Digital Deluxe Editions detailed

All pre-order details for this awe-inspiring continuation of Aloy’s journey, coming February 18 2022.

Thursday was to be a celebration of Horizon Forbidden West and the amazing team at Guerrilla working to deliver it on February 18, 2022. However, it’s abundantly clear that the offerings we confirmed in our pre-order kickoff missed the mark.

Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

I also want to confirm today that moving forward, PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 & PS5)–both digital and physical*–will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 & PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

— Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment

*To upgrade an eligible PS4 game on disc to the digital PS5 version, you will need a PS5 console with a disc drive. PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles on February 18, 2022! We were ecstatic to finally be able to share the release date with you last week during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, and to see everyone’s reactions to our news.

Pre-orders for the game are available now across the globe, so we wanted to share more details about the various editions that you can get your hands on.

  • Getting the special edition. Need that steelbook and physical disc.

Shame for people that wanna get the collector’s and regalia editions with no disc inside.

  • The way this game is being handled for the ps4/ps5 is not good.. I honestly think they need a smart delivery type option

  • The lack of a free upgrade is super disappointing; along with the already higher prices of games this gen, the fragmented ‘levels’ of games are very confusing. Back on Vita the crossbuy system was great, and it was promising at the start of this gen but this is a mess. Too many editions and the collectors edition doesn’t even include a disc! ‘Collectors’ are gonna be the people with disc consoles anyway…

    • You got a free update for Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the PS5 Little Big Planet title and now you gotta pay for it for everything else. NOT COOL. And to think I laughed at Microsoft when they announced Smart Delivery. Who’s laughing now?

  • Pre-Ordered my Regalla Edition, that Tremortusk looks badass! I’m very excited to explore The West! Thank you Guerrilla Games!

  • I genuinely would have bought the most expensive set but it doesn’t come with a disk.

I have a game collection. I display it. No disk?! I guess I’ll get the edition with the disk and art book.

  • Welp. This sucks. Sony PayStation.

  • Just scroll to the bottom of page all the editions show up there

  • Honestly this is beyond disappointing. People should be able to buy your game, not run spreadsheets as to which edition comes with what and from where. The dual entitlement should be across every edition with a $10 upgrade path if you must.

The collectors edition must include a physical copy. Anyways you only listen to money so count me out for the first 2 years after release. Your greed just lost you a Day One collector’s purchase.

  • Not much of a collector’s item if I’m just displaying an empty game case. Hard pass.

  • Sony, it’s an awful move to don’t include the PS4 to PS5 free upgrade in the standard and Special Editions, and to remove the disk from the Collector Editions.

I was going to buy new a standard or special edition at launch for PS4 and looked forward to update it for free later when I got a PS5. But since you did this, I won’t buy the game at launch. I’ll wait instead and will buy it second hand for PS5 instead after it gets discounted several months after launch. I won’t support this kind of moves.

  • It’s common to see Sony fans accused of being overzealous in worshipping everything Sony does. Read the comments in this blog. That’s not the case here. By and large Sony gamers are expressing indignation and rightfully so. Power to the gamers!

    • EXACTLY, nail on the head. We have spoken here time and time again the past few months since that disastrous Herman Hulst “interview” was put on here, that was pretty much a sneaky way to tell us GT7 and God of War 2 were actually PS4 games all along.

Not sure why my PlayStation brother and sisters said nothing about the 30 quid, PS5 “upgrade” for Ghost of Tsushima though.

  • I have to say i am excited for this game, but the fact that there is no pre-order incentive for the basic version of this game is sad. Everything is saved for the most expensive editions. I mean not even 1 in game armor(legacy armor for example), item pack, bow or anything for pre-orders for the 69.99 for ps5 version is just sad. who ever is in charge of marketing is surely thinking about money here.

  • Unfortunately the new-gen PS5 management of Jim Ryan & SIE are fast earning a decidedly tone-deaf reputation thus far. 😕
PS Gamers were hoping for greater access to their older classic catalogue-Jim Ryan, “We’ve dabbled in it,but too expensive”.
Initially closing the legacy psn with little notice, then its “we’re listening & we hear you”.
Now after Initially offering free ps4 to ps5 updates on Spiderman MM,Sackboy etc., it went to $20+ (in my region), for Ghost of Tsushima to no upgrades for Horizon Forbidden West Special & Standard edition ps4 owners?🤔😞
Do better & learn to engage with your customers,(& indeed indie devs who are avoiding playstation),again with consumer friendly policies, both here & on psn (eg gifting friends, refunds like Steam etc.).

  • This is shameful from Sony and they’re new found attitude towards cross buy sets a bad precedent.
This should not be supported in any way! If anyone still wants to play the game, please either buy it second hand or wait for it to go on a proper sale. I feel sorry for guerilla games, but anti consumer practices can’t be supported.

    • This! No more day 1 PS4 games for me. I will take advantage of it being either reduced or in the preowned market when I pick up a ps5. Made easier due to the lack of ps5 availability. Sorry Sony but you won’t see any of my £ if I get it preowned due to your recent consumer practices.

  • Well I was able to preorder the normal collectors edition. Debating canceling since I realized all I’m getting is a very expensive toy with nothing else but digital goodies. I like disc I’m a sucker for them. So I’ll debate. At least I have around 6 months to cancel and switch to the normal ps5 edition with the physical disc or just wait till it’s on sale cause everything is apparently coming out that month anyways.

  • Now it has come to this, if you want to use the added value of your PS5 then you have to pay extra. Soon to play games with dolby vision for 10 € extra maybe? Apparently they are shy for nothing anymore… 👎

  • So PlayStation, when are we getting the follow up “we have heard you” blog post?

What time today can we expect this?
The people have spoken. You can try and make back as much margin as possible by being as greedy as possible (because YOU caused the delay of your own game thanks to s PC port of the original) and lost millions in holiday sales.

But as it stands, you have damaged any potential sales on what should have been a new hit game.

So, when are you going to back pedal, or are you yet to show us what real arrogance is?

    • They put it on pre-order 6 months earlier to be able to see the feedback I guess.
As soon as I got the notification on the PS App that it’s available to pre-order, I was going to purchase it, but then I saw the pricing nonsense and decided to wait until they fix it.
Hoping they make an apology video on Sep 9th in their stream… That makes sense because they could have launched the pre-order during the stream if they really wanted to grab attention to it.

  • Having no disk in the collectors editions is a no buy for me.
And why the mini art book? For that price it should be the full sized one.
And to end it all, a digital copy of the comic book? Why?????
This is tone deaf to the collectors community why like (guess what) PHYSICAL editions.

  • Pre orderd delux

Sony when in gods name ps5 software update .
NEED extra intern ssd option now !

  • Dual entitlement!?! I’m really not impressed with Sony’s approach to cross gen at all. You have a loyal fan base on the PS4 that I’m sure would love to jump at the chance of getting it on the PS5 rather than PS4 . This has pushed me to no longer pick up any new releases on PS4.

The attitude to your consumer base will inevitably push a lot of us PS4 owners (me included) into the 2nd hand ps5 games market or for a discount later down the line. Made easier due to the lack of ps5 availability. #4thepayers

  • What a ball of confusion. Nine different ways to buy the game? Sony seems to want us to buy the Digital Deluxe.

  • Not getting this until you change your greed sony. Love you guys but the greens getting too much.

  • Not at all impressed by the cross gen options for this. We have PS4 and PS5 in our house, and different PSN accounts/primary console so usually get a disc. Total nonsense to expect people to buy the same game twice to get the best version for their console.

  • I refuse to buy digital games…physical media only for me…so no Regalia Edition I guess…..pre ordered the Special Edition. Horrible decision on Guerilla and Sony’s part.

  • What I find a bit annoying now, is that none of the physical game PS5 pre-orders, now ship a couple of days early too allow for for RELEASE DAY DELIVERY. When did they do away with this, and why? It seems like they are trying to force people back into the stores. I also rarely see any more pre-order incentives, for non ($100+) special edition collection versions. It used to be that, almost every game gave you something special, just to pre-ordering it. Back in the 90’s, of course, were the best days for this. We’d get t-shirts, posters, figurines, watches, you name it!… For giving them our money a bit early. Bring these back, and I’m sure you’d see way more pre-orders again. Just my 2¢.

  • SONY, YOUR TREATMENT AGAINST USERS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!, NO PS5 UPGRADE, NO PHYSICAL DISC NOT EVEN PAYING 260 USD…………

  • I believe it’s a big mistake to remove the Blu-ray Disc from the collector edition and replace it with a digital code. Also, The Upgrade must be free.

  • Está faltando as versões de colecionador para o Brasil, sério que a PlayStation vai deixar os brasileiros na mão???o/ O
lha a falta de consideração com os players BR !

  • What happened with the free PS4 to PS5 upgrade promised originally? 🤔

  • Even though I’m excited about Horizon Forbidden West ( I will be buying the basic PS5 version) the way that Sony is charging the prices is kinda scummy if you ask me.

  • Too hard to stay silent, I tried. I am really looking forward to this game, and plenty of additional first party exclusives moving forward. But the management practices are appalling. Not just in pricing and upgrade strategies, but in the fact that Sony are abandoning Japanese gaming and even denying Vita publishers the right to put their games on sale. Or wilfully leaving backward compatibility in an incomplete state (I mean, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate would probably trigger fits in those that are susceptible it is that bad). It is massively disappointing as a long-term fan.

Regrettably, as a PS4 and PS5 owner, I will have to wait for bargain bin pricing for this game now, I will happily just wait to play it. Maybe someday you can treat us long-term PS gamers (and players of Japanese RPGs / vita owners) with a tiny bit of respect again. The perfect time is now to get back to what makes PlayStation so great.

  • PS been going down with anticonsumer decisions since PS5 release. I will get $30 used copy in a year or so, because I want to play it but not gonna support “screw the consumer” plan. Bee. I have been thinking of getting Xbox and only play PS exclusives on Playstation.

    • You’re right, Sony’s acting like they’re the god and this groundless increase in prices for PS5 games is f. annoying.

  • Why there is no physical copy of the game with collector and regalla edition, I wonder if it was Sony’s decision only to get more cash from it, you’ve been making a mockery of gamers lately.

  • Hey PlayStation how about adding a disc in the collectors edition its absolutely mind boggling that there is a Steelbook associated with these version an its no Disc doesn’t make any sense y’all need to stop associating digital full game downloads for a game with a steel book give me the got damn disc thats the make up of a collector edit GET IT TOGETHER PlayStation

  • I don’t understand how PlayStation keeps making bad decisions this gen… Do you guys not see what the competition is offering? How can you keep offering worse things to you customers everytime? Miles gets you both ps4 and ps5, ghost is $10 to upgrade and now horizon is $20 to ensure you have both versions because there is no upgrade path… There is many other problems with how PlayStation is handling things as well, but it feels no one is hearing the consumers at PlayStation, maybe they should change the person in charge if they keep making bad decisions…

    • Yup don’t forget MLB the Show being basically free on the Xbox with game pass, and FULL PRICE on Sony consoles, despite the game being developed by them.

What a weird generation, they are slowly turning back into the early PS3 era of management.

  • This is such a bad move. Not including physical disc + digital in the collectors edition is just lame.
Also its cheap to limit the update from ps4 to ps5 for free!
Sony is pushing me more and more into their competitor due t these bad practices.

  • Hi Sony
As much as I love the brand

To be honest I don’t think it’s fair that if you purchase the standard or special edition on ps4 that you don’t get a free upgrade to the ps5.

I think that’s a low blow to lot of your loyal customers out there and potentially you will lose some.

I think this method for this game and any future titles needs rethinking. Its not the way.

  • I landed the Regalla Edition, and was SO excited! I didn’t know about there not being a disc, only a code, until several hours later. My internet is terrible, and downloading 100GB+ will actually take 2 or 3 days, thanks to my terrible internet. I can’t just leave my PS5 on all day and night, and rest mode has bricked some systems. I’m still keeping my pre order, in case Sony changes their mind (yeah right), but also pre ordered the special edition to lock in a disc. If Sony doesn’t update the Regalla one, I’ll just cancel it & keep the special. Or I’ll end up cancelling that if they actually DO update the Regalla one one…what a headache. I can get the statue later.

  • i remember when horizon forbidden west was announced to be coming to ps4 it was specificaly stated to be a free upgrade from ps4 to ps5

“Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles,” why did you lie?

  • Game version management on Playstation is confusing. My objective question: I have a PS5, my son a PS4 Pro and my daughter a PS4… Question… Does Sony think I will pay 2 versions of the same game (PS4/PS5) so that we can all play!? If so, you will be forcing me not to buy at launch as planned and expect a promotion of at least 50%. Bad and confusing policy!

  • Every one has an issue with 2 versions not having discs.
But no one has an issue with not having the ability to upgrade from PS4 to ps5 version?
They didn’t go ghost of Tsushima route either.
It’s flat one version or the other.

Sony is going in a weird tangent lately. Reminds me of ps3 era Sony.

  • No Disc with the physical Collector’s Edition?

    What in the…

And no PS4 to PS5 upgrade?

What a way to kill the sales before the game even launches

  • So the physical deluxe edition comes with LESS extras than the digital? If the plan was to move all gaming to digital, why was a disc version of PS5 even made? Why isn’t there more memory space? When did Micro$oft become the better gaming company?

  • “Dual entitlement does not apply to the standard and Special Editions.” – not cool Sony :(

  • And they ask to dont be a jerk…how not, Collectors Editions and Regalia Editions expensive has hell and without a physical disc! That guy Ryan must go out, just have Lame actions!

  • And they ask to dont be a jerk…how not, Collectors Editions and Regalia Editions expensive has hell and without a physical disc! That guy Ryan must go out, just have Lame actions!People vote with your wallets dont support this greedy tactics!Sony is back to the old bad days were Money was all they think and the fan base gamers been forgotten! Its time for me to jump to the platforms that is actually offering more to gamers and thats not PlayStation!Green team im back!

  • Ugh. Sony… you done gone batshet stupid this gen… would’ve bought this hands down… but no actual disk for the steel book case is just Stoopid and sums up Sony’s hubris this gen… it doesn’t deserve Starfield… lol.

  • now if we have a ps4 and a ps5 dlc can we i give the code to my missus and we both play the game at the same time?

  • Oh look, locking various in game content behind a label and price increase.. Ha ha. No.

  • Please Sony.
Give us the physical copy of the game in the Collector’s Edition.
Showed us the fans, that you still support physical games.
