PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • What’s the point of releasing a console that you allegedly can’t provide to the majority of your consumers? Psychology? Does Sony want to create a sense of value and exclusivity? If the release date arrives and people discover that the console is widely available and it was all a bunch of hype, they’re going to feel a greater sense of betrayal than relief. Sony executives will greatly dishonor themselves with their public deception and need to commit seppuku.

  • Will the PS5 upscale 1080p content or lower to 4K? Including Blu-ray discs and DVDs?

  • Yo anyone know if there will be available psn cards for ps5 at launch date ?

  • Did you send out the invitation to pre order ps5

  • PS5 – It’s too big. If Microsoft can make a smaller console, why can’t Sony ! I want one but I can’t buy one. Why? – its too big. Anyone listening out there in Sony world !

  • what is the difference between digital and the other

  • Will we be able to connect and play with more than 4 controllers????
I have posted this question on every social media platform but nobody has answered or even replied to this. Please we want to play fifa/wwe with our friends. It was so much fun on the ps3

  • I tried to preorder a PS5 but they became sold out in 5 mins everywhere. There was no previous notification given and I have signed for updates but it has been full throttle silence. Does anyone have any information on preorder status or has that window closed? Also, does anyone have information about third party vendors having enough units for Novemeber12?

I have been pre ordering Playstation Units for the last 28 years and never had I had such issues trying to pre-order if anyone has some answers I would appreciate your help.

    Thanks

    • Hilarious. You act like this has NEVER happened before.

If you have been ordering PS units for 28 years like you say, then you would know that EVERY console release was met with struggles. Midnight madness lines at Gamestop with people camping for days at a time to get a copy of Final Fantasy 7.

When PS1 came out, I didn’t stand in line. I ordered a Jap-USA chipped console from Japan that allowed me to play both Japanese and US games 6 months before anyone had a PS1. When PS2 came out, I had no trouble finding one. In fact, I had 3, gave away two of them. When PS3 came out, I bribed a Gamestop clerk to call me when the truck arrived so I could be first in line. Seriously, where there is a will there is a way. Try harder.

  • Any news from PlayStation Asia?? We are still waiting for the ps5 pre order details in Philippines and also the official price…. what’s happening PlayStation!!!

  • Any updates on more ps5s out for pre-order kind of bad you have customers but no products

  • So I pre-ordered the ps5 but never got a confirmation email …anyone else have this issue

  • Release some more!!! I got screwed out of my Day 1 preorder cuz best buy Canada took it upon themselves to cancel my pre-order for no reason at all. It’s a joke that so few of these are made and now I’m not gonna get one when I absolutely should be. Get your act together!!

  • Win is the best time to preorder the ps5 before November the 12 since I get played on the 3rd of that month

  • PREORDER UPDATE WHEN ARE WE GOING TO BE ABLE TO PREORDER THEM

  • Ok I have a question. When I get my ps5. Will it be possible to play my ps4 in a sep room while my son plays our ps5 on my same ps account

  • I would like to know how certain people were invited to pre order playstation 5,and not everyone who currently pays for membership.I am a grandparent who pays for 3 memberships and nothing no invite no notice, the fact it also went online 24hour prior to launch is nonsense for grandparents who have no inside information IE knowing someone who works where they would be offered for purchase.

  • SONY,

Is the PlayStation 5 Always Online Required, Meaning a constant Online connection. Even when playing a normal regular Single Player game. Given the fact you guys have yet to release this information. & the fact you guys have not even talked about the online connection for the PS5 has me worried.

Considering that games such as God Fall & Call of Duty are pretty much Always Online. Seems to me this pretty much confirms that the PS5 is indeed Always Online Required.

For me this would be a deal-breaker. I will not play any or buy any console or video game that forces Always Online or Forced DRM. Has me equally worried that you guys have not mentioned or talked Online or DRM.

Not everyone has Online, & not every one has good enough online to use Always Online connections. Why not come out and say if or not the PS5 is Always Online or not why are you ignoring this.

Like I said this would be a deal-breaker and I would not buy a PS5.

    • Most people aren’t using a sundial for GPS. Those of you who don’t have Internet, too bad. Move to Africa. Even they have Internet. Losers.

    • I’ll bet anything this spiteful reply from Dor is more because he’s not successful in anything including games.

  • Will the PlayStation 5 be Always Online Required ??? meaning a 24/7 constant connection even for Single Player Games.

  • Would hate for the PS5 to be always-online. Like I said should be a choice not mandatory. Still I have looked up information on & about Online a report back in 2019 from EA or someone who works at EA said that the PS5 would indeed require a constant connection.

I miss good ole days, I just stick in my games and play them like back on the PS2 Days, No online, no connections, no passwords, no patching my games, no DLC, just put in a game & play it for hours.

I hate the digital future, & always online age. I have been with Sony since Day 1. Could the PS4 be my final & last Sony Console ??? Thankfully the PS4 has life left in it and is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Not everyone is going to drop down 500 + 70 + on a Game meaning you will drop down about 630 Dollars. This does not justify that price. I mean if they were more Exclusives not just ports or remakes.

I am sticking with my PS4 and I have no plans on getting the PS5.

  • I don’t know if I’ll get it £359.99 for digital is a lot but to use discs £449.99 it’s to much for a console I’ll wait till used ones get sold they are always cheaper

  • Will i be able to connect a PS4 controller to the New PS5?

  • Sony still has not answered a very important question with regard to the pre-order Launch Day Delivery promotion: When is the charge for the item going to apply to the debit card/credit card to ensure the delivery of the console on November 12? Ridiculous that nobody has even asked this question.

  • Is there a conversion fee for ps4 games to get downloaded on ps5? My friends suggests there is such a fee, but I haven’t found anything like that? Help please.

  • Will the PlayStation 5 require a Constant 24/7 Online Connection even when playing a traditional Single Player game. There has been no talks about the PlayStation 5’s Online Requirements.

Or will it work & be just like the PlayStation 4 does meaning it depends on the game such as Marvel’s The Avengers, COD Modern Warfare, Apex Legends or games such as Destiny which require a constant Online Connection.

I think it is weird and also odd that 1 of the biggest & most important aspect about the PS5 is largely being ignored. Cause they know if they pulled a 2013 and told gamers to deal with it then I think a lot of people would opt out of purchasing a PS5.

I am not buying a PS5 until they answer & talk about the PS5’s Online Requirements such as will it be a 24/7 Always Online deal. Or will it be like my PlayStation 4 does meaning I can get online when I want to.

Considering the PS5 shares the PS4 basic system then it should also share about how it’s Online works also. Meaning it will depend on the game. Such as God Fall which is Always Online or Call of Duty which is Always Online.

More & more games are using Always Online & forced DRM if this is the case, I will just go back & play older games & older consoles.

  • Also people are not losers cause of where they live, a lot of locations in the United States have no internet due to bad locations & no line of site. Mountains, Hills, surrounded by Trees, or big huge Rocks block signals. Or they are too far away from a town or city & live in remote rural areas.

Don’t judge people cause they do not have Online. While I do have Online. I am not going to play any game or any console that would force Always Online or Forced DRM. While I do patch my games & upgrade my consoles, & also I do my DLC Content. That is about as far as I will go.

I just do not see the appeal of a constant online requirement or forced DRM. I have been a gamer for years & years. I just want to play my game’s & enjoy them without stupid restrictions & requirements.

What’s next Biometric Security or Scanning my Eye Ball or my Finger Print. Look I just want to play games, nothing more, nothing less.

    • Don’t worry about that guy. All he does is play games and look at the sheer number of spiteful replies throughout this forum. He’s in poor health and without seeming superior here for his symbiotic relationship with tech companies, he has nothing to be proud of.

  • While I do indeed want the PS5, I probably will not be getting 1 for a couple of years. Why, cause I have so many games on my other PlayStations that will keep me busy for years.

Also the PS5 will also take a few years to become more stable, & build up it’s library of games. I probably will not even get a PS5 until Dragon Age 4 will be released. But if DA 4 becomes an Always Online deal or some Service deal then I will skip it.

Most games I want are coming on the PS4, so I see no reason to upgrade. Ys IX, FC 6, Scarlet Nexus, & Masquerade 2 are still coming on the PS4 so I see no reason to upgrade & drop down 500 + 70 on a game which would be about 600 + give or take.

So for now I am happy with my PS4, the good thing when a new console comes out. Previous console games & the console itself will drop down considerably. Being able to get about 3 to 4 PS4 games compared to 1 PS5 game seems like a better deal to me.

Power & Graphics are not everything.

  • What’s up with a pre order. I’m a little upset I been a plus member since plus started and never got any pre order links or nothing…

  • Thanks Sony! .. for limited production on PS5 .. now we are victim of black market .. Some monopolists bought the pre-order and are willing to resell with double price .. I even found offer with 300% than your prices.. good motivation to black market
    so output:
    • More money to Monopolists
    • Frustration and anger to customers
    • Credit to Sony for such as brilliant management!

  • Tech companies are creating their own jurisdictions of fiat law instead of being legislated into subservience to the Constitution of the United States, where the supreme court in 2017 reconfirmed there is no such thing as hate speech, that all speech is protected. Bring Sony to heel and remind them that doing business in the US means doing so with respect to our laws; let the PS5 sit on the shelves and in their warehouses until they respect the law.

  • Everytime I enter fortnite after like 2 mins it says the database is corrupted but my problem is way bigger because I tryed intializing it, and rebuilding the database.
