PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

*Availability in each country subject to local import regulations. PS5 launch date for China is still under exploration and will be announced at a later date.

  • Buenas ! Este mensaje va dirigido a
    Jim Ryan
Gracias

  • Will littlebigplanet3 be able to play on the ps5?

  • i would like to pre order ps 5

  • Digital version is better (for me), here’s why:

1 – Digital games are tax free, which easily makes up for the trade-in money you’ll lose by not having a physical copy of the disc.
2 – You’ll ALWAYS have a copy of the game available for download that won’t give you an error if the disc is scratched, or if the drive lens is dirty, or if for some reason you lose the disc entirely, etc…
3 – Having an optical drive = more things that can break down the road.
4 – Avoid the hassle of driving to the retailer, or paying for shipping (and tax). Buy & download the game, and you’re done. Also, you have to download a large portion of the game to your storage drive even with a disc, so in reality the disc becomes a drm hassle at that point (which can be damaged/lost/etc.).
5 – Digital pre-load prior to release of a game doesn’t exist for physical disc copies. So while you’re trying to download a game along with 6 billion other people on release day, the digital copies are able and ready to be played immediately at 12:00am (or whatever) on day of release.
6 – Blu-ray disc drive? So what, big whoop! If I’m going to buy or rent a movie I can buy or rent in 4k (maybe 8k) from my couch, and again, this is all tax free. Often times the digital movies are much, much cheaper online anyways. Almost free in some cases. So a lower base price and saving money on tax, pssshhhh, easy choice. For you Redbox people, get with the turn of the millennium and quit paying late return fees like some 90’s blockbuster scrub!
7 – I am not a game collector because game collectors are lame. I do not care how many PS5 games and movies I can stack up in my living room. I’m not trying to impress anyone, son! I think having to alphabetize and store all those cases and/or a cd binder is a HUGE waste of time and waste of space when I can just browse a digital library that’s already been alphabetized for me. I like an uncluttered and clean looking living room/man cave, and getting rid of all those stupid cases/cd binders is the key.
8 – Voice commands FOR EVERYTHING!!! If you really want to impress the ladies, tell your PS5 to play “The Notebook” or “Dances with Wolves” as you sit down for dinner. Your PS5 digital version won’t start arguing with you about inserting a disc or whatever. It will do what its told! Chicks dig a dude with that kind of power and control!
9 – It’s almost 20 freaking 21! Get with the times, you geriatric noobs!

    • Hello. Do you have any idea about how many controllers will we be able to connect to the ps5. I hope its like the ps3 where we could could connect upto 7 controllers. All my friends used to enjoy fifa so much on the ps3. And yes I have 6 friends 😁

  • Is there a way for Retail Employees to not buy out all the PS5’s because I’ve been told by my friend who works at gamestop that they can buy more than 1 if they so wanted too. Isn’t that refusal of service to the consumers that want a console.

  • With the console being next to impossible to get within the month of November, will players still be able to access that sweet list of PS plus games even if they don’t receive their PS5 in that month?

  • Will ps5 have new pre orders anytime soon? and if not, will people be able to buy ps5s without a pre order if wait on line at stores?

  • I have a question that it hasn’t been clarified in the ps5 info released. Will it be possible to keep sharing games and PS+ with my son in the primary/secondary format with the digital purchases? ’cause I want to get both digital editions for xmas, but I need to confirm that info since it is not possible paying twice for the services and games.

Thx in advance for your answer.

  • How to we contact support staff that will actually respond to messages or concerns? Chat doesn’t apply, Twitter support doesn’t reply.

  • I have a question that no one can seem to answer not even Sony customer service. While the platinum Headset that I have from my PS4 Be compatible with the PS5? Or must I purchase the 3-D pulse headset to get the most out of my audio? Is the headset for the PS5 even available or for sale, nobody can answer my question in physical stores and it has never been for sale on websites it just says coming soon. Physical stores cannot even tell me if they’re going to have them on release day… But I do want to get the most out of my playstation 5 so is this something I need or well the Platinum headset suffice

    • I think that the ps4 discs are going to be playable in ps5 this is what I know and the said about backwards compatible

  • Will I be able to trade in my PS4 System for a PS5 System? ( if not, do I get a discount?)

  • Digital sounds awesome!

  • Sony has not announced the release date and price for India. Sony doesn’t take India seriously. That’s a big shame!

    • Unfortunately…. I feel the same, being an Indian, refreshing page every once in an hour if there’s an update… Frustrating

  • Now that the ps5 is on pre order sony should tell us more about the product we order. UI,ps store, functions, hands-on,speed on ps5 and ps4 games, ect. All this waiting and Microsoft showing their console inside out is getting people edgy.

  • Question: when you pre-order the ps5 in sony do they charge your account right away or do they start charging in November near the launch???

  • Still trying to Pre-order…. Come on Sony. Been loyal since 209

  • Just give me a ps5 pro with full backwards compatibility, I don’t care about price as the cost of legacy systems is crazy.
And I still play my old games a lot, as I am sure lots of other gamers do.

If you had a poll and put forward a 6 to 7 hundred dollar console with complete backwards compatibility i bet you would get hundreds if not thousands of responses saying make it happen.

Especially from legacy players as myself as we love all our games no matter the generation in which we played them originally.

I personally would love to pack up all my playstations and put them on a shelf while a ps5 pro ran all the games for them.

Just food for thought, as a mid gen fully backwards comptabile pro version would be fantastic.

    • Frikkin love this idea!! 👊

    • Umm no. They would not need to charge extra for a console that can BC every PlayStation game ever made anyway.

    • They already tried a “6 to 7 hundred dollar console with backwards compatibility” with the PS3. It sold not so great compared to the cheaper model.

Generally the more expensive a console is the worse it does. Also, historically, backwards compatibility doesn’t seem to translate into more sales.

Though I would like to play PS2 games on something. Sony added the “PS2 on PS4” thing and gave up a few months later. Tenchu 3/WoH doesn’t really work on PC emulators, so it would help preserve that game.

  • Just noticed the dirt bags have already come out of the woodwork. Selling their preorders on sites like Kijiji for $1000 to $1300.

    • I can’t stand people like that! We , the loyal ps fans have to be put on the back burner while these guys get our consoles and sell them for a profit. Sony would have loved to sell them for more in order to make a decent profit but lowered the price to make it affordable for us but then these scalpers come in and sell it for far more then sony would have sold it in the first place smh 😑

  • Please sony I will be needing one with external disc
    Location NIGERIA,RIVER STATE, PORT HARCOURT.

  • can’t wait for the ps5

  • I hope my tone feels very respectful in this comment.

I been having concerns from reading the news articles. Many news articles consistently explain yield issues with PS5 units. My concern is that if I get one of the PS5 early units they might turn out to be a lemons. For my peace of mind I will have to wait a year and observe others experiences with the early versions of the ps5 units.

I just want to ask to please be honest and don’t wait for a bunch of customers to take you to court and then admit any short comings on the corporate behalf.

Thank you for your time in reading my comment.

    • I don’t think you’ll be able to get in store for a year anyway. But to give u some feed back… I bought first gen PS4 on release date last year(when u could actually buy one one it’s release date) and I didn’t have an issues with mine

  • Does any one know were I can talk to sum one to get my ps+ fixed

  • Will PS5 be available for in store purchase? I missed my chance to pre-order

  • Can you preorder the ps5 games digitally or can you only preorder physical copies?

  • Loyal Sony PlayStation network and plus 20+year members should have first dibs on the console day one. And the ones that wasn’t selected and given an email link should be sent a link to get their system. And the resellers and non psn members should have to wait.
Sony make this right to your PSN loyalist.

  • Why do I not see my question from yesterday September 29th…

  • Please invite me for a preorder, my son and I really would appreciate it! I would like to preirder games as well to review on my channel .

  • I’m really disappointed in how Sony has handled the pre-orders I’ve been PlayStation since day one I buy a lot of content from Sony from my PS Pro Limited addition Sony Needs To Do Better (Not Happy At All)

  • What a a pathetically anemic little hard drive. I tell ya, anyone who goes for the first model of the PS5 or the Xbox is quite the fool. As is anyone who actually spends 70 dollars on a game, just to keep things in check.

    • Not everyone needs to play 3,226 games at a time. Perhaps that’s their reason which allows them to cut costs. I have dozens of games on my PS4 Pro with an $80 external drive and I’ve not once run out of space. When I’m done with something I delete it and I don’t even have to.

  • Hey,
My birthday is exactly on November 12th… Could I get a discount for my birthday? ^^

  • PLEASE reopen preorders for your loyal fans and not for bots and auticlickers through retailers.

You guys should’ve had the majority directly available through the exclusive invite for this first round.

I received the exclusive invite email at 1AM and when I woke up they were all gone.

  • I just need to no if N.C is going to be able to get ps5 becouse I wood like to get one of my on

  • IF SOMEONE REPORTS SOMETHING ABOUT ADULT STUFF ON PSN COMMUNITIES MAKE SURE YOU SEND A CERTIFIED EMPLOYEE TO CHECK WHETHER THE PERSON HAS POSTED SUCH STUFF DONT BAN THEM IF YOU HAVE USED BOTS THEY ARE NOT HELPFUL AND YOU JUST MAKE LIFE WORSE

  • MY OTHER ACCOUNT I PLAY FORTNITE WITH HAS BEEN BANNED I HAD STOPED USING PSN COMMUNITY AFTER THE 30 DAY BAN EVER SINCE.. NOW I SEE, I HAVR BEEN PERMANENTLY BANNED FOR NO REASON YOU HAVE USED BOTS NOT ACTUAL HUMANS TO CHECK MY ACCOUNT WHICH IS NOT HELPFUL

  • Any chance we can actually see the console in action before it is released Sony? I have bought every playstation ever released and enjoyed them all but I have to say Microsoft is winning the latest rounds of marketing based on sending out consoles to reviewers and talking more about the system. It is now October and this thing is supposed to come out next month and there are so many questions that fans would like answered. It worries me that perhaps there is already enough hype and Sony doesn’t want to build it more because they will already be short units for sale when it launches. You have the system, launch date, price so now show it in action with the UI and games running, opened up showing how the disk expansion will work, connecting my PS4 external hard drive and copying/running games, etc. You will shut up alot of (becoming more and more) disgruntled fans when you do…

  • Hi, will my External hard drive with my PS4 digital games work on the PS5, or will we need to use a Ultra High external SSD HD for new PS5 digital games?

  • I would like to dish version , I would like to know when are they going to start the pre order or have they already done it? If so I would like to be added to the list as I reply to your email you sent me.

  • Soooo i pre ordered the digital console cuz it was the only one I could find and now im gonna miss out on pre order bonuses because PSN doesn’t let me search any ps5 games to pre order why?

  • Can we preorder digital PS5 games yet?

  • Hi PS, could you please do something for the ps4 save files transfer to ps5? thank you.

  • I recall when it was first “teased” there was mention of total backwards compatibility. Yet I have not seen or heard anything other than ps4 titles since then. I was lead to believe that I could play my ps3 games on the 5.
Anyone have information on this? Please and thank you.

  • Can you still pre order? If so, where? I have checked every store in the US and they are all sold out.

  • I seriously hope you guys are coming out with Socom! You would be legendary and I know atleast 2 handfuls of ppl who would be playing it.

  • Can someone at Sony please come out and say how game save data will transfer from PS4 to PS5? Can we move our saves or not?

  • How can I get a ps5 when all the bots are buying them all up? Not fair for all the true gamers.

  • Hello I am wondering how can I get a notification from Sony when will There be another preorder for the ps5 if there’s going to be any at all I would like to get an email

    Thanks

  • Dear Sony,

Please make a second round of pre-orders possible.

  • So excited for the ps5. But I want to pre order assassins creed Valhalla on it, in PS store the wording in the description is odd, it says you get the PS4 version if you buy the PS5 version but I can’t pre order the PS5 Version yet and I don’t wanna miss out on the preorder bonus content. Someone please advise preferably @Playstation

  • Sony, please make regional prices for your games. I live in Russia, and, like the most of russians, I cannot pay 5000 rubles per game(of 8th gen). Yeah, I know what this is 60 euro, but in Russia that is like 120 euro for you. Every normal game store had already added regional prices: Steam, EGS, Orugin, UPlay, even Battle.net! Everyone did it, besides, you and Microsoft(but microsoft have Game Pass and Argentina accounts). Just please, do it!

  • When will we get real official update information for Black version?

Preordered for Post Launch shipment, but I won’t feel too happy with a white console. It won’t go with anything in the room, nothing. 0. That’s like wearing all Black and having 1 white shoe.

White sucks, it really does. I spent my whole life avoiding everything white. Like Kettles, fridges, dishwashers, ovens, microwaves, socks, jocks, tops, pants, shoes and so on…

    • I hate white too! But u won’t be able to even get one of those unless ur committed to camping out the night before for just a PRE order or refreshing ur web browser till u can’t feel ur finger anymore
