PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • I have a question, I was able to pre-order my PlayStation 5; however, the card I used was compromised and unauthorized charges were made. I had to cancel my card and I need to update it so I can get charged once the shipping is ready. Does anyone know how to update that information?

  • I have been a supporter for playstation since the first one dropped in stores and i didn’t get a email to pre order the ps5 what a let down

  • I really am sickened by this. I remember the time when people didn’t have to worry about getting a system. There was one fir everyone. They sent 4 systems to one of our stores here and people are setting up tents to get them. This is sad. What about the people that have to work? I really am disappointed and disgusted by this.

  • My husband had his name on a list for preorders and also spends lots of money on these systems and games and has a membership only to be told they lost the list.

  • Think it’s messed up that someone who has been a fan since ps1 and has had the same PSN ID since you were able to make one, can’t even get an invite to pre order. And yes I registered. It seems like all invites went to youtubers and all digital buyers. I see where your company loyalty lies. I’m too old to camp out release day like I did for the last 3 systems. Looks like what ever system I get first this time I’m rolling with. Never would’ve thought about it in the past.

    • No man even one of my youtubers was so mad that he didn’t even get an email. He had to scramble to buy a pre-order at 2AM. This is just wrong

  • I’m still perplexed about how Sony decided on their preorder list? I got the invite to sign up for it and did so immediately, but never received the preorder email despite having played on the PlayStation Network since a few months after the PsOne released. (Dec 1994, got mine as a wedding gift from my wife in March 1995) So over 20 years of ps loyalty and almost ten years of ps plus membership and I’m level 11 with a little over 700 trophies….what more does an OLD guy like me have to do to get one?

    • I feel your pain man. ITs not right and its not fair. I think their marketing person is a Sega fan(boy/girl/neutral). i don’t know just a thought. I’ve been a playstation customer since who knows. i have my PS1 model # right here: SCPH-7501
      Serial # U6943065

Good luck on the PS5 im not supporting this company anymore. Done-skees… mic drop.

  • I understand the digital edition is 100% dependent on downloading games onine but is the standard edition 100% restricted to having to use/purchase discs? I am someone who would purchase discs AND download online, does the standard edition support this in the way the PS4 currently does?…

  • Been a sony playstation fan since day one. Ive waited outside for hours for every console. Please sony send me a invite for the ps5 please. Im begging you to take my money and give me that magical device….. Please..

  • Man, how was the selection made for people getting emails from Sony for preorder? I’ve been a supporter since 1996 and a member of their gamer advisory panel at one time. You would think I would have had a shot.

  • I’m sorry to say that there remains far too many questions unanswered as we head towards the PS5 launch. Why hasn’t there been more transparency? Can someone with Sony – anyone – please definitely address the following:

    1) How many GB of the hard drive is occupied by the operating system? Does that leave enough space of the 825GB hard drive to hold the PlayStation Plus Collection?

    2) Will PS4 purchased dlc & save files be supported on games in the PlayStation Plus Collection and backwards compatible PS4 games running on the PS5?

    3) Will PlayStation Plus members still get free PS5-specific monthly games for this console?

    4) Will the PS5 use wifi 6?

    5) Will owners void their warranties should they swap out the tiny hard drive for a larger PS5 approved/compatible hard drive?

    6) Will PlayStation Now be supported on PS5? I’m assuming yes, but it (and VR) have oddly been omitted in most blog posts and conferences.

    7) Will PlayStation Plus members get more cloud storage with the new console coming to market?

8 ) Will the PlayStation Plus Collection continue to get more games added to it?

    9) Is God of War: Ragnarok going to follow Horizon: Forbidden West and also be available to play on PS4?

    10) Will PS4 games in the PlayStation Plus Collection be optimized in any way for the PS5? (i.e. with the Dual Sense features, etc.) Will any PS4 backwards compatible?

    11) Will Share Play be supported on the PS5?

    12) Can the Vita or mobile devices be used as a second screen or controller on the PS5?

    13) How do you use the PSVR on the PS5?

    14) Is Horizon: Zero Dawn going to follow the Spider-Man example and have a remastered PS5 edition?I

We’re barely more than a month away and PlayStation fans still don’t have the answers to these questions.

    Thank you.

  • I’m not real happy with Sony PlayStation because I signed up for the ps5 and now everywhere I go there sold out

  • I was invited to pre-order but only the shop accessories page kept coming up. What am I doing wrong?

  • When do we get to find out which SSDs works with the PS5 for storage expansion? This information would be really helpful, Thanks

  • Will GTA V be free on the Playstation store for the PS5 right at launch or do we still have to buy it?

  • This has to be the worst Pre-order launch ever. I was really hyped for this.

the Pre-order times were inconsistent across all retailers. But mainly… just sold out instantly.

I Think ill wait until this system is on sale now.

the new World of Warcraft is coming out.

Think about this on your next system launch… if there is one.

  • Hi I’m surprising my son with the PlayStation 5 I was wondering if anyone can tell me what type of warranty it comes with and what it covers or do I need to pay for insurance

  • Today is my birthday. I just struck out at two different Gamestops for pre-orders. I could really use a PlayStation direct invite to pre-order online. I’d very much appreciate it much.

  • If the pre orders are going to be bought out by bots in 10 seconds why doesn’t sony raise the price… econ 101 supply and demand…. up your price…

  • Will there be a second wave of pre-orders. I plan to buy mine at best buy.
I had no idea that PS5 had went live and missed ordering it.😭

  • I’m starting to get real mad I haven’t gotten an email for the pre order yet I got the shaft on the pre orders cause of the early start

  • Your preorder URL link sent to me did not work. Tried calling support but your phone number doesn’t work and the chat line told me they don’t deal with it and sent me the wrong link to who I need to speak to. I am very disappointed in you Sony.

    • Try replying to the email that Sony sent you. I had a similar issue and I can’t say for sure but eventually I was able to preorder mine. Best of luck

  • How on earth do you folks consistently manage to put out such high quality digital shows? The production values are insane from the beautiful animation effects, transitions and music it’s all so well put together. I can’t wait to get my hands on day one the Disc Edition of the PS5!

  • gamestop said they only had 4 for preorder today , does anyone else know who has more ps5 consoles for preorder, not the digital version

  • Will there be another pre-order day coming before launch?? I went to go get one today and they only had 8 to sell so I wasn’t able to get my hands on a system

  • This is rediculous. I have been in a waiting thing 2 different times now and for some reason when i have went to put in my cresit card info they were sold out. And I have been trying to pre order the ps5 since day 1 and still cant. Something needs to be fixed with that or playstation just might lose a customer

  • After you Pre-order from Sony does it look like the refunded the money?

  • Been a loyal customer since 2008 and I can’t even get an e-mail from @playstation to allow me a chance at the PS5. Spent THOUSANDS on your company. SMH.

  • I lost my invite in incognito mode. I closed the page and when I tried to open it Aviña it wouldn’t let me. I am depressed 😭😭😭😭😭

  • My preorder link is screwed up. I tried to sign in for my preorder via my iPad but didn’t realize the safari app and PlayStation page don’t work. I then loaded up my PC but it says my link is being used on another device/browser. Go back to my iPad and it too now says the link is in use.

Any help would be appreciated if not, I’m sure I won’t be able to get my hands open a ps5 until next year.

    • I hope this reaches you before ASAP. I had a similar issue. I tried everything. Last ditch effort I replied to the emailed that Sony sent the invite in and i explained my issue with them. About a half hour later the link worked for me. I can’t say for sure if my reply to that email was what helped me get my preorder, but it doesn’t but it doesn’t hurt to try. If anything just keep trying until the invites expire. I didn’t stop trying until I was able to. I hope you’re able to get yours as well. I know how you feel

  • Hey guys,
was wondering if anyone could help me get my hands on a ps5. I have tried everything. online pre orders, whitch was a mess. i tried waiting in line and also sign up for direct with sony. I am super bumed. i would like to get one for my nephew. anyway you guys could help would be great. he would love one. let me know i appreciate it. my nephew would love it.

    thank you guys.

  • Sony, can I please get an email invite to preo order? I just changed my account email as I didn’t have access to my previous one. If I ever was invited, never got to see it. The second wave just passed and didn’t have the opportunity to grave a console. I get married this year on dicember, my birthday is on dicember 24, and this, I was planning the ps5 to be my first console at launch as before was depends on my parents, I work in the health field with covid patients and can’t be making a line at gamestop from 3am to get it by 12 am. Please consider….. thanks

  • I’m beginning to think that Amazon GameStop, Target, Best Buy is not dropping the preorders on PS5 I got account for all to get notifications absolutely NOTHING!!!!! Then I tried to contact Sony find out more information she sends me here. My question is ARE THE PREORDERS REALLY DROPPING and why is there only limited amount of PS5 & X BOX so how many is going to be dropping on release date Nov 12,2020????

    Sincerely,
    Worry Mom

  • Hey Sony…. why don’t you give everyone with an online PlayStation ID first dibs on a PS5 pre-order?????
Now there are almost 4000 scalpers on Ebay. I have tried and tried to get a pre-order……We players have no chance against scalpers and their bots!!!!
Guess maybe I’ll get one sometime next year……80’s kid.

  • Another disappointing day trying to get a PS5 preorder from Gamestop. What a joke, the online experience trying to get PS5 preorder a nightmare.

    • Sony, you wanna save face? Don’t let retailers do “Pre-Orders” unless there is a sizeable amount to distribute and can do something about Bots.

    • It’s extremely disappointing, especially when the whole email link to a queue for pre-orders could have been done on a more significant basis, allowing more actual gamers to get systems in their hands.

  • As a playstation customer and supporter since the ps1, an invite to the pre-order would of been nice. What a disaster the preorder process has been.

  • PS5 is the only True Next Gen Platform. Not PC and other platform.

This I/O speed with SSD boost 10 t-flops to the max with variable frequency saving from over heating , no bottleneck onany part situation, no other platform can do to date. PC/Xbox might be powerful on paper but it will choke on bottleneck. So far no games showing Xbox power.

No popping, lag, bottleneck, or etc and new game changer experience soon on PS5 . Rachet, Demon’s souls, final fantasy,Harry potter showcasing the beginning of PS5 power.

Sony is really giving us gamers top of the line tech product . I can’t wait for genius devs unleashed the Krakens power.

  • Why didn’t I get the email for preorder? I signed up.

  • So now that a second round of email invites has gone out to pre-order a PlayStation 5, I beg you: What do I have to do get an invite? Seriously, after having every piece of hardware since the original PlayStation, been on PS+ as long as it has existed, and still have 3 generations of PlayStation console in my home, I figured I would just ask: Could you please give a dude a chance to get the next generation into my home ASAP?

  • This is for Stop Follow Old Less😂😂😂

  • This is for Stop Follow Old Moderators Less😂😂😂

  • This is for Stop Follow Old moderators Less cheap
    😂😂😂

  • this really sucks! I work full-time. Still can’t get a pre-order. Been a sony member for 14 years and can’t even get a pre-order from sony themselves. All the xbox people I work with got their preorders but all the ps people didn’t get nothing.

  • It is extremely frustrating trying to preorder the new ps5…the second wave and nothing like jeezzz

  • This was so misleading! I received my invite. It tells you to click on the link and then the page tells you to wait until you are autodirected to a url. I finally got tired of waiting and entered the url manually and by then all the consoles were sold out.

    BS!

  • Hi there how it’s possible that people’s was available to pre order ps5 and sell them in ebay for 1000 and us that spend time every day playing can get one

  • my phone has been on 30% for about 20 mins.
    Not bad

  • What was Sony thinking by releasing a “white” console….? How ignorant. EVERYTHING in and around my entertainment center is “black”… This “white console” looks absolutely out of place with everything else being BLACK.

Sorry, Sony: for the first time ever I’m gonna sit this one out until you release a BLACK console. The color schematics are TRASH. I’ll just pick up an Xbox Series X (in BLACK) in the interim and also replace my RTX 2080 with an RTX 3080 (or 3090) which will completely STOMP any console, anyway. By the way, my PC is also BLACK…

  • What a nightmare and a waste of time. Been buying playstations since the ps1 and no invite. Way to support your long time supporters. Thanks.
