PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • When will sony do another pre- order for the playstation 5 consoles???? I know iam not the only one that wants to know.

  • I really was wondering if you have digital PS4 games if you could download them to the PS5 plus I don’t want to wait for PlayStations help on the phone or online chat because no one really wants to wait for 20-120 minutes just for a question like this

I most likely won’t be back on this blog so if you could just message my account it would be greatly appreciated

    • Yes, you can download your PS4 games on PS5. It’s not entirely certain that every single PS4 game will work on PS5 but like 99% will (according to rumors).

    • It’s not rumored anymore, Ryan came out and clarified. Not sure why it hasn’t been posted to the blog. If you want disks to work on PS5, you still need to use your PS4 disk, but you download a file to play it on PS5. If you go with the digital PS5, there will be no way to play your disk PS4 games on PS5.

Digital PS4 games will work on either PS5, you can use a current gen external drive to store the games and play them on PS5 also.

  • Scalpers, just sold out. First PS5 and now Xbox Series X, I just hate the 2020 right now. CAN WE GET INTO 2021?!?!

  • Pre-order sold out in 30 seconds I’m sorry that’s BS

  • Does anyone know about the game share situation with PS5? I hope Sony let’s us have 2 accounts on one PS5 system instead of 1 account like PS4.

  • Was just wondering if with the ps5 if you would be able to play ps4 and ps3 games with the console? Was hoping to but do not know for sure if you can.

  • The confusion at Gamestop didn’t make pre orde#DC x$#ds d a great

  • I am frustrated and Angry about pre order for PS5 I put my money down then I heard about glitch and qì*u’fcomputers.Next Day my Preorder GONE with Money.!!!!!!! so now what ?

  • Any information for that of country India? The wait feels too long already.

  • When will I be able to pre order a PS5 since every retailer messed up the pre orders and didn’t give everyone a chance to pre order?

  • I wanna know if my PS4 games I already own will be able to be downloaded onto the PS5. If they are backwards compatible it should right??

    • All digital games will work on PS5, you can also use an external drive for PS4 games.

If you have disk based games, you need to buy the disk PS5 so you can use the disk to play the game.

  • Yooo Sony where’s my private inv email that I signed up over a month ago. Why do your long time members who been here since day 1 get screwed over. Online is an absolute trainwreck with scalpers scouring the webs, it would’ve been so easy to send me and email so I can get my pre order with no issues, you screwed a lot of your loyal fans

    • I got the private email invite but didn’t get a preorder as it was sold out by the time I got to order from the queue. I think they didn’t have near enough to cover the private invites so don’t feel too bad.

    • Umm they didn’t “screw” anyone, I get you are upset about not getting a pre order yet but at least Sony tried to give consoles to their players. MS didn’t do that. Also, there will apparently be more waves to order and they have said they have more PS5s at launch than they had PS4s so it might not be as bad if you don’t pre-order

  • When will the PS5 pre orders be available again? They said they would announce in the next few days and it’s been since the weekend.

  • Xbox Launch with GamePass (100games) at launch: $550

PlayStation launch with Demon’s Souls: $570

    Something is wrong here.
$60 was already too much. Now you have opened the floodgates. Games that are heavily marketed with microtransactions will now follow suit. Way to go, Sony.

Maybe I’m just bitter about not getting a preorder invite from you after all the money I have given you and since I have been a PS Underground, Plusand Qore member since they launched on their respective dates.

  • When are y’all going to open the preorders again I was at work and miss the chance please let me know??

  • Sure would be nice if you guys would actually update your blog with more info instead of tweeting out things, or making comments to the ridiculous WaPost. I will always be a Sony fan, but this inconsistent and slow leak of info is frustrating. I have already put money down for a pre order but there are still major details that I would like to know about what I’m buying.

  • I pre ordered mine a year ago (!!) in a game shop that lets you do it chronologically, literally a few days after reveal, and just found out I didn’t get one at launch… Never in my life has this happened to me, always got one at launch. I read there were smaller numbers of the digital version but apparently the physical is most wanted here and all sold out. Could’ve still gotten a digital but I’m an advocate for physical so that ain’t happening… Very disappointed by this, there must really be major shortages… On top of which, Sony is the only one of the known manufacturers that doesn’t provide an OLED with low input and HDMI2.1 prior to next-gen, despite being a console manufacturer (traded in my XH90 for the LG CX, didn’t feel like staying loyal to Sony anymore). Usually I’m extremely hyped for a new Playstation generation, but with my TV breaking down and the stress of searching for a new one and not getting a pre order, this is without a doubt the worst one for me so far.

  • How about sending more invites? The average person cant seem to get one aside from ebay. Ive seen sellers there with up to 10 consoles.

  • Yes new ps5
    I to buy one ps5

  • Since Sony hasn’t commented I guess they support all of the Scalpers online that tied up all of the retail websites with their Bots.

Which means Sony also supports and recognizes Scalpers on Ebay as Authorized Sellers reselling the Playstation 5 for $900.00.

    • That’s a pretty crazy theory, if true that mean Microsoft feels the same way about the scalpers too. Scalpers suck but they are around for everything, not just consoles. It took me six hours of trying but I got my pre-order in all the chaos. Also, at least Sony has confirmed more pre order waves, Microsoft came out today and said, sorry if you didn’t get one, there will be more at launch.
Nothing that Sony can really do about the scalpers. If people stopped paying them, they wouldn’t keep doing it.

  • My PS4 is stuck in the Safe mode screen and i can’t get out of it, any tips?

  • Been a long time PS consumer (By long time I mean from PlayStation’s inception). Even preordered PS4 through Sony at its release without any difficulty. To not have the opportunity to pre order a PS5 May just be the push to Microsoft I needed and I despise Bill Gates but sometimes you have to choose the lesser of 2 evils.

  • I’m still waiting for a preorder invite been checking emails everyday. Any idea on what the Subject line will read?

  • Does anyone know if more digital consoles or any consoles will be able for pre order after October 7th

  • Hello there
Someone know when pre order is back to life ?

  • UI PLEASE!!!????

  • I’m PlayStation fan very very long time, from 1995, “before the console had internet” 25 years is a piece of time and I still waiting for my private invitation email that I signed up.
Shame on you Sony, I’m very disappointed.

  • I know it’s still early but will there be a digital pre-order for Spider-Man Miles Morales. Via playstation store on the system or app on your phone?

  • I just want to know if Days Gone will be with some extra features on the PS5 …. When will we have more to be preordered because I didn’t know and didn’t have a chance to preorder ….

  • There must be some kind of mistake. I haven’t received my email yet. I’ve only been a loyal Playstation consumer since March of 1996. I’m sure it will be in my in box tomorrow?

  • Any updates regard ps5 in India, It sucks to wait… It’s taking forever

  • Any updates regarding ps5 in India?
It sucks to wait… It’s taking forever

  • I am looking for true facts on hardware such as PSVR hardware and its compatibility with PS5 even though I have used it on PS4?. Also I am wanting to know if my external hard drive I bought that even formats to ANY system or device that was used for my PS4 will be compatible?. I was planning on getting your PS5 via pree order but if you are saying the over 100.00 USD in PSVR games I have Purchsed through you are fodder or you are forcing me to spend yet another 500.00 USD on all new PSVR hardware that is exactly like I currently own that really sounds like price gouging and makes a really negative light to be cast on your BUSINESS ETHICS just to avoid a few lines of code. I hope to hear back from you soon and thank you for your time.

    • I don’t know for sure, But I remember reading somewhere that they can be use

    • It has been confirmed that all VR equipment will work on PS5, you will use the same camera you already have, don’t buy the new one. Your games will be able to be downloaded on the PS5 or if you have a disk, it will work in the PS5. There will be an adapter that Sony will give you for free, to use the headset on the PS5. VR games will also run smoother on PS5 because of the power

Also, typing “will PSVR work on PS5” into google probably would have been a lot easier/faster for you.

  • Hey I was just wondering if all the games I bought in the playstation store on my psn account would they come with my psn account when I put my psn account on ps5 contact me at zf-sourboi on ps4 if you have the answer

  • My account was stolen and support help me get it back but their was another system activated in my name and I can’t play any of my games I’ve tried to deactivate it but can’t tried to call Sony closed because of COVID what am I supposed to do?

  • Is Sony going to follow-up on the pre-order registration that was emailed to us. I’d like to order directly from Sony if possible.

  • So how about giving an official price in other countries, like sweden and the redt of 98% of the world. It’s been a more than a week since they announed the price and pre-orders have started in some countries, while we don’t even know the final price yet.

  • Anyone know if the 5 will come out in black?

  • What’s the major difference between the 2 PS5 systems? I was leaning toward SSD, not digital. Also, where can I pre-order 2 for my grandkids?

    • The only difference between the two is that one has a disk drive for games and 4k movies, and the other doesn’t.
If you have PS4 games on disks that you would like to play on the PS5, you have to buy the disk version. Plus, if you get the digital version, you better have good internet for all of the downloading, plus no cap on data.

    • ya better listen to phantomMenace84…so correct!!

  • What is the better console of the 2?

  • Come on, help an old man out here. Throw me a bone.

  • Why isn’t ps support available each number I call says closed and need refund

  • Can I order a PlayStation 5 when it release’s in Japan if I’m in the US somehow? Like can I have it mailed from someone.

  • And how likely am I gonna get a email from that pre order thing that you could sign up for previously

  • Disappointed you ignored my preorder invitation for second time Sony :(

  • sooo, do you need a invite to pre-order?

  • Fine. i’ll Be The 1 2Look Past My Excitement For A Brief Moment, An Ask Some Other important Questions.
1-Can We Finally Get Back Multiplayer, That’s Not! Locked! Behind A PS+ Pay Wall?
2-Can We Finally Get Joint Streaming, The Ability To Stream Multiple Games WithOut Having To Stop The BroadCast?
3-Can We Get Back The Ability To Listen & Watch Our Own Music & Videos
    On The Console?

i Have Way More Questions, But Let’s Start With These.

  • Who is going to be shipping these out for Sony? FedEx? UPS? DHL? Does anyone know?

  • Will the ps5 have a black colored console

  • The HD camera of the PS5 will work on PC?
