PlayStation 5 launches in November, starting at $399 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive

New games announced at PS5 Showcase, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War title

This is truly an exciting time for all of us at PlayStation. Over the past few months, we’ve been able to show you a glimpse of the stunning new games being created for PlayStation 5, taking advantage of the console’s unique capabilities to deliver lightning-fast loading, heightened immersion, and a whole new generation of experiences. And we’re excited that the time for you to experience these brave new adventures is almost here.

As we have just announced in our PS5 Showcase, we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world*, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP). Pre-orders will be available starting as early as tomorrow at select retailers, so please check with your local retailer.

We’re pleased to provide choice to gamers with two PS5 console options at launch, depending on if you want a digital-only experience or prefer disc-based gaming. Whichever PS5 you choose, you’ll enjoy the same breathtaking, next-gen gaming experiences. Both PS5 models use the same custom processor with integrated CPU and GPU for high-fidelity visuals, including 4K graphics and ray-tracing support, as well as the same ultra-high-speed SSD with integrated I/O for lightning-fast loading. PS5’s 3D audio and the DualSense Wireless Controller will also provide the same heightened sense of immersion on all PS5s.

We are proud of the breadth of games being created for PS5, and it’s our goal to continue filling our portfolio with new, rich experiences from the most talented game creators in the industry. Today we shared a sneak peek at the following new games coming to PS5:

These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.

Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.

For PlayStation Plus members, we’ll have a special new offering on PS5 – the PlayStation Plus Collection**. PS5 owners with PS Plus will be able to download and play a curated library of PS4 games that defined the generation, like Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World, Persona 5 and many more. The PS Plus Collection will be an added benefit to the existing PS4 benefits that PS Plus members receive for a single subscription price.

This year has been unlike any other, and there have been many challenges the world has faced. Everyone at PlayStation, along with all of our partners in development, publishing, technology, and retail, have devoted a lot of effort to launch PlayStation 5 in time for the holiday season. We’re all working closely together to achieve our mission of delivering the best that gaming has to offer to our community. I truly want to thank you, the fans, for your tremendous support (and patience!), while we take this journey to PS5. We can’t wait for November to arrive – when you’ll be able to get a PS5 console in your hands to begin exploring new adventures and creating new epic memories for many years to come.

  • I cant understand why if i sign up Aug 28 2020 to preorder the ps5 (2) one digital for myself and one standard for my hubby. Why dont i get an email so that i can preoder.. I save for 2 unit and i did not get my email ive been playing playstation since the 1. We have a PS1 PS2 PS3 and 2 PS4 and now need the PS5..

  • This is amazing!! I haven’t been lucky getting an allocation to pre-order, but when I do I will be the happiest person. (Can I have a pre-order allocation?) Lol

  • Their first all digital console since the psp go.

  • UK PS5 games £59.99, when converted to Euro that’s €65.00.

However Europe is going to have to pay €80.00 per game.

Not all UK PS5 games will cost £59.99, I’ve seen some cost £51.99.

  • Hey PlayStation, what will be the price of Ps5 in India, the preorders have not started here in India yet.

  • Great console, great line-up but 80€ for new games? It’s 20€ more than actually. Too expensive, PlayStation.

  • Please release more PS5s in Canada i was at work at the time of release. Also, it would have been nice to get an email notification so I would have been prepared since you email daily for every other news…

    • It wasn’t Sony’s plan for pre orders to go live on Wednesday. That’s why you didn’t get an email from them. And most retailers didn’t email people either because Walmart came out and said that they weren’t waiting for Sony and opened Pre-orders immediately. Which led to all the retailers scrambling to open pre-orders. More waves are coming though, Sony has confirmed this.

  • Please I am begging you bring Playstation Network to Pakistan

  • Really wanted a Playstation at launch. Was hoping to receive a invite to buy one directly from Sony but I guess its not to be. I have had every Playstation console on day one of the their release but I guess thats about to change. Maybe I will see how I stand in the Xbox pre-orders

    • There are more waves of preorders coming. Don’t be so dramatic. And if you got a PS4 pre-order, you should remember that it was pretty tough to get one if you didn’t manage to get one the first couple of days.

  • Will the ps5 with disc drive still play 3D movies.

  • Well…canadians still get robbed, it’s really fun being neighbors to the us and paying at least a 100$ more…hhheeeeee, can’t wait for the kids getting grown-up enough for me to go to the “dark side”!!!! Hahaha!!!! Can’t wait for the ps5 and experiencing what it’s all about !!!! Have a great weekend everybody !!!! ✌🤟

  • How do I sign up for the PS 5 notice board?

    • sadly you dont. Many people signed up well in advance , play their ps4 all the time and still did not get an invite .

    • The two people I know that got invited were both in the 30s for their psn level. So maybe that was part of the metrics that they used to select who got an invite.

  • If only there was a way to preorder one without having to sit at your computer refreshing all day and hope to get one. I do not recall it being this hard to preorder my ps4. I really hope a lot more will be available for preorder before nov. Too many people have been able to purchase more than one so they can disgustingly mark up the price on ebay .Not to mention many of us took the time to sign up for email only to not get an email and get first shot at getting one as we were lead to believe. While ive always been with playstation since the 1st one, if i can not get a preorder of one , i guess ill be looking to see if i can get an xbox for the first time ever. I want a new console at launch, if i cant secure a ps5 , i will be looking to xbox then . Nice job Sony.

    • Yeah the scalpers really suck. It was about as bad for the PS4, I remember because it came down to lining up at stores to get my brother one, though I was lucky enough to pre order mine.. Good thing is that Sony came out and said there are going to be more waves of pre orders. They also said that they have more PS5s than they did PS4s and that more will be produced by March 2021 than the PS4 had in March the following year.

    • There might be a way to pre-pay 100% to get on the pre-order list for Sony’s 2nd production run. I’m working on persuading them to set that up

      RokonJim (1970’s ISDT)

  • How do I sign up for them to advise me when they have PS5 for sale?

  • I’ve got to say, after a day to think about it, I feel really burned and hurt by Sony. I’ve been an early adopter of PS2-4 with no regrets.
Coming into this generation, I was excited. While Sony had been quiet, Microsoft had been saying a little too much and have walked back on several claims from interviews they gave last year.
And through Sony’s last 2 PS5 showcases they spoke and said so much right. But immediately after the other day’s conference, it was revealed Sony left out so much info that they could have easily said in the conference.
And the pre-orders issue hurt the most. Sony, you gave so many of us no notice. I found out preorders started after getting out of a meeting…only 3 hours after the conference…and have been trying ever since. I’m all for the hunt before a console comes out, but this was misleading and went against your promise to your fans.
This is really killing my desire to get a PS5 within its first year or even at all.
    Please do better.

    • Man read some news articles, it wasn’t Sony’s doing, Walmart came out and tweeted a screw you to Sony, then opened pre orders. When they did that, all the other retailers scrambled to open pre-orders so that they would get their percentage of the sales. Sony said that they were opening them on Thursday, the other companies are the ones who screwed over customers.

  • I will have a HD/ Bluetooth.

  • I meant with Blu-ray disk.

  • So I’ve been a loyal PlayStation customer since ps1 I sign up to be notified about pre-orders and still have yet to receive as much as a thank you for your interest in our new system great way to treat your day 1 fan Sony rant over. I do love what the system looks like and look forward to owning it in the near future hopefully.

  • Dose anyone know if ps4 games will work on the ps5?

    • that’s what I want to know. I heard even ps 3 would play but who knows

    • They have officially stated that 99% of PS4 games will run natively on the PS5. There are a handful that might have hiccups but they didn’t say why. They have also confirmed that no other gens will be supported. Which is unsurprising to me at least. Not sure why Sony isn’t using their own blog to send out some of this info.

  • Dumb question I placed my pre order and it stuck the money and then it put money back on card somebody
    Explain

    • Who did you go through? Sounds like they over sold and refunded. Gamestop did this to me. I had one from them and then today they cancelled it. Thankfully I got one from Best Buy too

  • Reasons for physical disc PS5
    1. You can buy and sell your games on the market place, offerup, letgo etc
    2. You can trade games with friend and others.
    3. You can borrow and let others borrow games.
    4. You can compare prices between all stores to find the lowest price.
    5. You can buy digitally from psn as well.

    • @Andrae-123

I will be buying the Disc/Digital All in One😀👍

I won’t be buying a PS5 until the end of 2021-early 2022. I’m waiting to see when Sony will release a smaller console. Hopefully a redesign as well.

Sony must be itching themselves to make the console smaller.

  • What the hell Sony? I loved the PS5 showcase, but 80€ for a game in Europe? That´s completely insane. I hope you will change your mind

    • Yeah I know it’s a lot, but you gotta consider games are getting larger, which means more work per game, Sony is almost definitely taking a loss on the consoles themselves, and lastly with the tech being used in these games they’re also just gonna be a lot smoother, prettier, and over all better. I know the price increase sucks but Sony literally can’t afford otherwise

  • So I have a question …some games are banned in my country like GTA V so if I buy the digital version and rockstar launches a new game would it be available on the digital store… like when ps4 was released gta was still banned on my country but it was still available on the digital store I believe but it got removed later. If it some banned games won’t be available I’m going to have to buy the cd version of ps5 and buy it from an online store like Amazon and I sold my ps4 and the cds for the new ps5

  • Just got this email and it references the 16th pre-release so of course I couldnt get one because they are sold out. Nice timing Sony. You should have sent this on the 14th.

  • Pre Orders disappeared in literal seconds, but the moment they’re back in stock I’m going to try my hardest to try and snag one

  • Mr Jim Ryan, I have owned multiple consoles for every generation of the PlayStation. 11 consoles in total, 3 PS 1’s, 3 PS 2’s, 3 PS 3’s, 2 PS 4’s. I managed to get 1 console for each version on launch day. I even got scammed on eBay for the PS 2 launch, lost $900 but still managed to get my hands on a PS on launch day.

I have been a PSN member since the beginning, even have 2 network adapters for the PS 2 before the PSN network was up and running. I also pay for a 2nd PSN account for my wife (Aggiepooh) just so we can sit on the couch together and play on 2 Sony TV’s, & 2 PS4’s and of course the PSVR, cameras, controllers, wands, close to 1000 games over 25 years… even 2 copies of Buzz trivia so we could have 8 buzzers. (BRING BACK BUZZ!!!)

When the first announcement came out saying Sony would be doing direct sales for PSN members I was so excited. I thought FINALLY, they are rewarding the valued customers and making it harder for the scalpers online to get their hands & rob true gamers and parents with obscene prices just before Christmas. But even though I signed up with both me (Clangman) and my wife’s PSN accounts we were not selected??? 25 year customer, PSN from the start (admitting I missed some renewals and my account lapsed for short periods of time), loyal Sony customer. What else did I need to do to qualify???

What’s equally upsetting is that I tuned in for the event, was excited about everything I saw. Then we’re told preorders would start “tomorrow” PREORDERS STARTED 3:35 MINUTES AFTER THE EVENT!!!
Got an email from BestBuy at 8:27pm ET. wasn’t looking for it or logged into BestBuy because you said TOMORROW!!! I opened the email at 8:33pm ET and started scrambling, sites were crashing, I missed out in-part to information / lack of information that you put out.

Now of course I’m looking to eBay, looks like $800 is the going price for the digital version, probably double the retail price when they hit me up for shipping fees. And I’m risking another scam. At least now, eBay & PayPal might refund me if I’m scammed again.

Anyway, Sony doing preorders for PSN members was a brilliant idea, I just wish you took did a better job making that idea work. And next time you hold an event remember, we want to know precisely when preorders will start. Microsoft is making fun of you and you deserve it.

    Your loyal customers deserve better.

    • Man, I didn’t read your essay, but as far as pre orders go… Sony didn’t “let them” start early. Sony wanted them to go live on Thursday and the retailers started them on Wednesday. Not a whole lot Sony can do about that. It is unfortunate thought that the direct from Sony preorders didn’t reach more people, but that is how things go

  • PS5, who’s a Big Boy!

  • I’m super disappointed in playstation. Signed up for pre orders months ago. Watched the trailer went back to work. Woke up had a pre order email, only to find out it went live the showing day, and all pre-orders were already done. Talk about chaos and now my mental is starting to bug me ahhhhhh.

  • What is the deal Sony you promised your customers that we would be notified ahead of time for the Pre-Order date? And instead of limiting one console per customer you allowed people to Pre-Order multiple PS5s which in turn they are selling as third party vendors.

Keep this up and I’m switching to Xbox.

  • I have been patiently waiting the arrival of this system. I have the money put away for it. The least you could do is give us the right release date on preorders. Also if you just made enough systems we all wouldn’t be fighting over them. We should be able to just log on and order. It is dumb. Maybe you could take preorders way in advance and make them to order. Something other than this. I’m really disappointed in you guys Sony. And gals.

    • I like how you are blaming Sony for retailers not filling their set pre-order day, and it even seems like you are blaming Sony for the fact that retailers don’t have websites that can handle the level of traffic the PS5 drew.

There are more pre-order waves coming. And there will be more PS5s available at launch than there were PS4s at the PS4 launch.

  • All well and good but you are all sold out so……….

  • I thought this was going to be a backwards compatible console! I am ready to get one but what about all our old games? Who wants to start over?

    • It is fully backwards compatible with PS4, you can play both digital and physical ps4 games you own on the ps5. There are only a small number of ps4 games that have minor gameplay issues.

Unless youean with PS1-3… Though I don’t get how people expected Sony to change their minds on that.

  • I hate to be negative but it would’ve been awesome if Sony could’ve made sure the major retailers selling the PS5 would’ve actually had them hold true to the preorder date that was stated. I know one opinion won’t make a difference but this was truly handled in the worse way.

  • I’m so glad that I usually usually buy a console when a special edition that I like comes out so I don’t have to be apart of this tom foolery that occurred with these pre orders. Plus I like the Japanese version with the X and O swapped around because I’m use to it now lol. Plus it’s cheaper with the conversion rate. I have to go to Japan every year with the wife anyway. Lol might as well pick one up while I’m there one of these years

  • So what happened to Sony stating only 1 pre order per household? There were scalpers buying 30-40-50 of them up all over the place. Not to mention everyone jumping the gun on pre order days. Been a loyal Sony customer for years. Have pre ordered every console. Spent thousands on PS store and now have 0 chance of getting a PS5 and Sony hasn’t said a word about any of this. So looks like if I wanna play next gen I have to goto Xbox. Thanks for screwing your loyal customers Sony.

    • Now these are the comments that make sense. Every word of it. If anyone here plans on playing on a ps5 Nov 12 and has yet to get a preorder in( accounts for about 75% of us) speak up and let Sony know. 1000 for ps5s on Ebay is just a slap in the face for playstation users that have remained loyal for 20 years…till now anyway.

    • So most retailers did limit it to one per household .. on their site. There is no way Sony can control people buying from multiple sites, that’s a really naive/ignorant statement on your part. Also, Target screwed up and didnt prevent people from buying more than one. As with other items, there are pre order waves, more will be made available, they have already confirmed that.

  • You guys really need to come up with a wider variety of controller designs – the gamer market isn’t males with big hands any more. It’s my grandpa who wants to play but has arthritis, and girls with tiny hands. EVERYONE games now. Why are you making us use these heavy ass bulky controllers as one size fits all? Set the standard, and design for accessibility– we’re all trapped at home for a pandemic tryna give you $$$.

  • So I bought NBA 2k21 Mamba Edition and it said something about it crosses over to the ps5. So since I bought that version of the game does that mean I can play NBA 2k21 on the ps5 with my friends that are playing on ps4? And will my MyCareer progress cross over to ps5 since I bought that version?

  • So I bought NBA 2k21 Mamba Edition and it said something about it crosses over to the ps5. • Why are you people commenting on Digital v.s Disk edition and game prices? How about we all focus on the real issue. Based off the initial preorder launch most of us will not even be able to get a ps5 period till most likely next year. Sony gives us no idea when they come in. The major retailers let u know after bots and like already sold them out. This is imo the topic we need to focus on if those of us that want a ps5 Nov 12, infact get one.

  • Why do the games cost more for the EU market??

  • Can we get the Official Indian Prices for the PS5 or any news in that regard?

  • When will more consoles be made available for pre-order; since the pre-order launch seemed to go a little off the mark, with companies selling consoles earlier than entented? Also; what happened to the emails that went out about pre-orders? I never heard anyone say they got an email notifying them they could pre-order. I thought those people who were chosen would be the first.

  • Hlo
I bought ps4 about a 1-2 months ago and now it stop working. I tried to call sony for customer support but nobody is helping me. I don’t know what to do now. Please help me how can I replace it
    Thanks

  • does ps5 upscale 1080p bluray movies to 4k

  • I just wanna know why didn’t get the E mail that the PS5 was ready for pre order when I even signed up for the update to. I have been a playstation customer for over 25 years and have pre ordered every console to date And I would just like to know what was the point in signing up for the playstation 5 news letter when you didn’t even send us the information we wanted to know.

  • Someone on facebook stated that you we’ll need a constant internet connection to play any digital game on the digital version of the ps5. Is that true?

  • I was one of not been lucky can I get a digital edition please 😘

  • rin should be run sorry about my nervous typing.
    will pay 100% in advance!

  • My 1400 mile away dealer just refused to give me a single dollar discount off a 2020 Cadillac CT6-V he has in stock, with a 550hp. Blackwing V8. But the 2021 will come with the latest “V” 650 hp V8 engine in a 10 speed automatic or standard shift with a clutch. Of course I can run a clutch, World Rally style with heel-and-toe, brake against the gas. The dealer is Crest Cadillac and he is in Texas, I’d have to fly in to Dallas Fort Worth airport to get it. Ho[ing to get that call. If you want to give Crest Cadillac your two cents worth the guy is Bruce McConnelly and he is the Internet Director.

  • @Anedime

It’s a 4K UHD player by Sony & I can’t find one for less than $250 on their website or $180 on sale @ Walmart. Seems like getting a PS5 w blu ray will be a good investment if you didn’t already have 4k ultra (non-upscaling).
