Tomorrow, PlayStation 4 will get an update to system software version 2.50, codenamed “Yukimura,” which will bring an onslaught of features: some you’ve been anticipating, many you’ve requested, and others that might surprise you. This update will make significant improvements to your PS4 experience, making it even more streamlined and enjoyable.
Following the update, you’ll be able to smoothly pick games up right where you left off, find and connect with friends quicker, customize your experience and share your most epic moments in a more meaningful way.
PlayStation 4 v2.50 Update
Features coming to PS4 with “Yukimura” include:
- Suspend/Resume* — Supported by nearly all of your PS4 games, you can jump in and out of your games with just the press of the PS button. Quickly switch from Rest Mode to powered-up so you can pick up where you left off.
- Back-Up and Restore HDD to USB — Back-up and restore your hard disc drive data associated with users on your PS4, including settings, saved data, screenshots and video clips as well as games, patches and download data, to and from an external USB drive.
- Find and Connect with Friends — “Yukimura” adds to an already robust set of social tools, bringing several updates to continue making PS4 the best place to play with your friends, including:
- Facebook Friend Finder — Using your linked account, you can expand your network by searching and connecting with your Facebook friends.
- Improved Friend requests — Friend requests and Real Name requests can be sent together in one step when adding a friend on PS4.
- Streamlined Party process — The process to create a Party has been streamlined with a reduction in the number of steps required.
- Find Friends who play your games — Easily view what friends are playing on each game detail page with a real-time “Friends Who Play This” section, which also highlights which friends are currently online and playing it, and if you own the game, allows you to jump directly into the game.
- Join Friends directly from news feed — A new tile will be added on your What’s New feed where you can see what your friends are currently playing, enabling you to join in the game if you own it.
- Share Earned Trophies and Optimize Your Trophy List — We know that Trophies are important to many gamers, so we’re bringing more control with how you show them off:
- Automatic Trophy Screenshots — A screenshot will automatically be captured when a Trophy is earned, preserving the moment to share with friends.
- SHARE Trophies — Players can share Trophy information to Facebook, Twitter or via Message by pressing the SHARE button.
- Additional Trophy sorting options — Sort your Trophy list by Earned Date, Not Earned and Grade.
- Delete 0% Trophies — Remove games from your Trophy list that have zero percent completion.
- Improved and Expanded Accessibility Options — New options added to customize the user experience include:
- Customized button assignments for DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller.
- Zoom for displayed pictures and inverted colors for all system functions, apps and in-game.
- Text-to-speech is available only for Message and Party, and is only performed in English.**
- Enlarged text for all graphical user interface, including Message and Party, as well as the system’s browser.
- Bolder fonts and higher contrast UI for all system applications (but will not apply to games or third-party applications).
- Remote Play and Share Play — For games that support 60 fps, users will be able to automatically enjoy those games with 60 fps for both Remote Play and Share Play*** on supported devices.
- Automatic Installation for System Software Updates — Enable automatic installation for future system software updates.
- Sub-Account Upgrade — Enable users 18 years of age or older with sub-accounts to upgrade to a master account directly on PS4, removing restrictions on chat and enabling users to add funds to their Wallet, purchase content and more.
- Verified Accounts — Select game developers, producers, designers and community managers will be verified with a badge.
- Dailymotion — Upload video clips directly to Dailymotion via the SHARE button.
PlayStation Vita and PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets will also receive system software updates tonight, adding complementary features to those added to PS4. PS Vita update version 3.50 and PlayStation App update version 2.50 will add new accessibility options, including enlarged text, increased contrast and more. This update also enables PS Vita to support 60 fps streaming for Remote Play***.

Would like to see backwards compatibility at least for PS3 games.
You “forgot” to say that Vita is loosing Maps, YouTube and Near. And what about game trophies who depend on Near?
Are they gonna be impossible to get?

From what this reads, it looks like it also means PS3/Vita games. It would be very odd if they didn’t include deleting PS3/Vita list. It pretty much works the same way the 360 feature worked. You go through your trophy list, press Square and it deletes that trophy list. It was also a “OS” update that brought it to the 360, folks. Relax.
We need a thing where we can see our friends that come online and change our online name and deactivate our other account that we don’t use any more and bring video chat back. Also update the playstation app so iphone 6 and 6 plus can have a better view not just the iPhone 5 view!.

Whats the point? most of the games gives you a trophy right after you start playing them
Does this mean I can use an external hard drive? If it does that’s a pretty cool feature,but if I can only use a usb stick the whole usb storage seems pointless.
So does this mean If I got a gameshare from a friend and I want to upgrade my hard drive I can save it to cloud without losing the game. I don’t have my friends pass anymore so I don’t want to lose my current games. Thanks in advance
you guys should add keeping track of how much time you played a game it would be nice to know for games that don’t do it which are most games and im extremely interested to know like how much time i have put in games like nba 2k15 cuz i play so much and its a sports game so its never gonna tell you total time but i would love to know it has to be hundreds of hours each year
well what can i say…its a bit of a nice update….would love the usb ports to be able to read MKV files and mp4 etc….come on now you can do it!!!

From what I read in the patch notes I’m excited for the patch. But there are a couple things I’d like. 1) The option to pin apps so I don’t have to go looking for them. 2) The option to see when friends are getting on or off. With that I would like to choose to see who is getting on. So maybe a seperate area to place those chosen friends. 3) The ability to change my user name. I’ve been rocking this user name for far too long, and I don’t want to have to make a new account for a new name then to lose all my trophies. I’m certain that at least one of of these suggestions are well overdue and well sought-after. But other than that keep up the good work.
Sony. Look at the demands. Yes, you are taking a step to improve gaming, but guess what? You honestly have it by the balls. Xbox One can’t compare, Wii U- lets face it. Not even Nintendo approves the Wii U lol. You guys did a great job in the gaming part, but media is where your console lacks!! Your console has so much potential and yet you deny it and make your valued customers rip their hairs out waiting for a update that’s in high demand? Delete 0% trophies? That can wait!! What about the 23G I have left from the 500G I get?! I don’t want to have to go out to buy another HDD for $100+ when I have a good 3T external hard drive sitting right next to my PS4. What about playing movies from that hard drive? Can’t do that either. When I had my Xbox One (Which I traded in for a second PS4) not only did I not have to format my external hard drive. All remaining memory went to the Xbox Ones memory so I could use that for whatever I desired, but I could watch all my movies on there as well!! This is something I’d love to see from you guys! Heading in the right direction yes, but listen to our demands concerning media- thank you!
Updated sounds great but I would love to be able to purchase ps2 and psone games in my ps4.

I would like to see sub suport for external hard drive and video file support. Xfinity on demand as a app be cool for ps4. Compatibility for PS3 controllers as a second controller. Sound output compared to PS3 for full hd sound output so my Sony hd av receiver will send ps4 sound through my receiver and give bass. PS3 disc support. Media streaming capability.

Bluetooth… Seriously it’s 2015 and a brand new game console where is at least equal Bluetooth support to what the PS3 had… We went back in time with our $500+ PS4 purchases.
I’m still having problem using my pulse wireless headset with PS4. The mic is showing up but no audio. The Sound and screen, then in Audio Output setting, but in that screen I only have Primary Output port, and Audio Format (Priority) the Output to Headphone is still missing. I hope this is going to get fixed
Oh, yeah and how about some media support, a way to turn off notifications when watching Netflix (kinda hard to watch a movie when you have that one guy who joins a party every 45 seconds), and some external HDD love too…
Really? Hey can we manually shut off our controller? And since you guys are not making Experia phones anymore can you make the remote play available to other android phones and tablets. Still feels like the ps4 is a ps3 with a gender change. LMFAO ?
Come on – where the heck is DLNA support?! You’d think that with this system being “next gen” they would upgrade the system by having all the PAST AMENITIES as well as the ones they’re adding now. Who said, “sure, that’s a great idea! We’ll just take out all of the past software features and slowly add in new ones after the release!! Even the good features!!” Ridiculously unnecessary I say!

Is there or Will there be an option to change the menu layout. I’m not a fan of the side scrolling through the boxes and the process of selecting all applications is quite annoying to use since is still shows all my deleted content etc.
i was hoping they’ll allow us to custumize/Remap buttons/Touch controls on the Playstation Vita® for instance all the Triggers L2 & R2 and Doul analog sticks Buttons are located on the rear touch pad. i hate the fact the whole ps vita screen is being used as a Touch pad button I want to remap the controlls. i like the setup on the Last of us remastered. they used half of the rear touch pad as a Triggers L2 R2.

+ DX2800 You already can play music of an USB, that was added several updates ago. Just make a folder called MUSIC on your USB thumbdrive and drop the music there. Then you’ll have a program called USB Music pop up on the homescreen.
For everyone looking for DLNA support.. It isn’t really needed… Get Plex Media Server and stream movies through the html5 browser on the PS4 it works great and along with the ps4 it can stream to any mobile device in your home as well… Incuding Chromecast… Plex.tv rocks
I think if you are worried about media playback then you should get a device that designed especially for that purpose… I want the ps4 to be the ultimate gaming experience.. Smart tvs have support for DLNA as well I think so again, not needed in PS4, focus on other stuff.. :)
I also would like them to make the playstation network more secure and focus on security vulnerabilities a little more..
Great update. . A media update to support video files would be great. Here’s an idea. Why not use the playstation camera so you can view your other friends with playstation camera in the corner of the screen while playing online. This would be the best thing! Looking for something as cool as that in the future.
Again I have to say. Thank you thank you for text to speech. This opens up avenues I never had as a totally blind gamer. I’d love to see TTS expand in to games, but I realize this opens up a whole new set of challenges. Being able to interact with friends, select games I want to play. Yes. This is going to be awesome. I realize we are a tiny tiny market, but thank you for thinking of us and going out of your way. Now I await getting someone in here who can read the screen for me to help me set this up. Super excited.
