Tomorrow, PlayStation 4 will get an update to system software version 2.50, codenamed “Yukimura,” which will bring an onslaught of features: some you’ve been anticipating, many you’ve requested, and others that might surprise you. This update will make significant improvements to your PS4 experience, making it even more streamlined and enjoyable.
Following the update, you’ll be able to smoothly pick games up right where you left off, find and connect with friends quicker, customize your experience and share your most epic moments in a more meaningful way.
PlayStation 4 v2.50 Update
Features coming to PS4 with “Yukimura” include:
- Suspend/Resume* — Supported by nearly all of your PS4 games, you can jump in and out of your games with just the press of the PS button. Quickly switch from Rest Mode to powered-up so you can pick up where you left off.
- Back-Up and Restore HDD to USB — Back-up and restore your hard disc drive data associated with users on your PS4, including settings, saved data, screenshots and video clips as well as games, patches and download data, to and from an external USB drive.
- Find and Connect with Friends — “Yukimura” adds to an already robust set of social tools, bringing several updates to continue making PS4 the best place to play with your friends, including:
- Facebook Friend Finder — Using your linked account, you can expand your network by searching and connecting with your Facebook friends.
- Improved Friend requests — Friend requests and Real Name requests can be sent together in one step when adding a friend on PS4.
- Streamlined Party process — The process to create a Party has been streamlined with a reduction in the number of steps required.
- Find Friends who play your games — Easily view what friends are playing on each game detail page with a real-time “Friends Who Play This” section, which also highlights which friends are currently online and playing it, and if you own the game, allows you to jump directly into the game.
- Join Friends directly from news feed — A new tile will be added on your What’s New feed where you can see what your friends are currently playing, enabling you to join in the game if you own it.
- Share Earned Trophies and Optimize Your Trophy List — We know that Trophies are important to many gamers, so we’re bringing more control with how you show them off:
- Automatic Trophy Screenshots — A screenshot will automatically be captured when a Trophy is earned, preserving the moment to share with friends.
- SHARE Trophies — Players can share Trophy information to Facebook, Twitter or via Message by pressing the SHARE button.
- Additional Trophy sorting options — Sort your Trophy list by Earned Date, Not Earned and Grade.
- Delete 0% Trophies — Remove games from your Trophy list that have zero percent completion.
- Improved and Expanded Accessibility Options — New options added to customize the user experience include:
- Customized button assignments for DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller.
- Zoom for displayed pictures and inverted colors for all system functions, apps and in-game.
- Text-to-speech is available only for Message and Party, and is only performed in English.**
- Enlarged text for all graphical user interface, including Message and Party, as well as the system’s browser.
- Bolder fonts and higher contrast UI for all system applications (but will not apply to games or third-party applications).
- Remote Play and Share Play — For games that support 60 fps, users will be able to automatically enjoy those games with 60 fps for both Remote Play and Share Play*** on supported devices.
- Automatic Installation for System Software Updates — Enable automatic installation for future system software updates.
- Sub-Account Upgrade — Enable users 18 years of age or older with sub-accounts to upgrade to a master account directly on PS4, removing restrictions on chat and enabling users to add funds to their Wallet, purchase content and more.
- Verified Accounts — Select game developers, producers, designers and community managers will be verified with a badge.
- Dailymotion — Upload video clips directly to Dailymotion via the SHARE button.
PlayStation Vita and PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets will also receive system software updates tonight, adding complementary features to those added to PS4. PS Vita update version 3.50 and PlayStation App update version 2.50 will add new accessibility options, including enlarged text, increased contrast and more. This update also enables PS Vita to support 60 fps streaming for Remote Play***.

Yea, I got a PS4 last night and truthfully, I think I’m gonna bring it back for an Xbox One. Great hardware, but the software is awful and the network speeds and connection errors that I’m getting with PSN is unacceptable given how much this thing costs ($50 more than an XBOne) and the fact that they’re charging the same as XBLive for a network that is about 1/3rd as reliable as XBLive.
The “Video & TV” app placeholders that are MIXED IN with the ones I downloaded, which makes it a royal PITA to get to those that I actually use… WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? You didn’t even give us to the option to remove placeholders for applications that are in the PS Store, anyways? YouTube is all the way at the bottom, under Amazon, YouTube, PS Vue (not even available here), NBA Game, VUDU, MLB.TV, HBO GO, and VidGone. Same for Crackle – BURIED.
Fine and dandy, Love the updates but a few things still missing. How about the ability to delete all messages at once?? I have like a hundred sitting there waiting manual deletion. Also my bigger concern as a paid Music Unlimited subscriber WHEN IS SPOTIFY releasing your turning off our services March 29th, but I see no mention of SPOTIFY release date just it’s coming…
Can you guys make it easier to mute the Camera’s mic when its being used in multi-player? There are too many steps just to mute and un-mute the cameras mic. Thanks
No mention of any sort of incognito or busy mode… It’s one of the only things I’m missing since jumping ship from my xbox! I don’t understand why this isn’t available on the playstation? Does anybody know…..

@46 I think you might be the only one here other than myself enjoying the features that you’re given rated than complaining because this wasn’t your holy grail of features and updates. I, myself, will be enjoying many of these. There’s a zoom feature in the accessibility menu as well. This helps me with my lazy eye when I have to sit back further. There are features I would want as well. But I doubt any of us in the comment section are programmers for a game console’s firmware. This means that none of us know how difficult it could be to write in features like DLNA, Online notifications, Media Storage on HDD, etc…the suspend/resume feature loads GTA V back up in about 5 seconds give or take. My favorite by far. Keep it up, PlayStation.
I would really love to see the option to change your online ID available with PSN. So is 60 fps streaming to Twitch or other streaming services or even 1080p resolution streaming not going to be possible with the PS4? Even if a PlayStation 4 user has the necessary Internet bandwidth to support it? I would like to see that be available as well. One other thing I would like to see in a future update is the ability to turn off the automatic gameplay recording of the PS4. I assume it might be an unnecessary strain on the hard drive for those that don’t need that function to be active all the time and being able to turn it off might increase the lifespan of the hard drive wouldn’t it? I use an SSD so the less writing to the drive, the longer it will last. I suppose for SSD’s it might not be that big of an issue, but I’d still like to have the option to turn off that feature anyway.
DLNA and Media support should be a high priority. Tired of having to rely on 3rd party backdoor solutions to something that should be supported out of the box.
It would be great to have a guest mode or trophy disable mode, so if someone is playing on your account there are no trophies being awarded. Also, the PS Vita should support multiple accounts as well since once of its primary uses is for Remote Play which is currently locked to one account.
This’ll be a great update! Beyond satisfied with the ps4 however my only future complaint shall forever be the same as 40, one day hoping for support for our classics.
I’m happy with my Account name as well but I know I speak for MANY when they say that even if not a free name change a system to allow a paid name change is almost just as justifiable, to have the option would keep many more people around:)
Good update but WHERE are the core features of the PS4 that were taken away like online and offline notifications, appearing offline or away, being able to inv your party to a game from the party screen , the ability to play video files on a usb drive and why is that i can put music on a usb and play it but i cant listen to a store bought cd. These and many other features need to be added…Its not that i’m ungrateful for all the improvements being made but a facebook friend finder before some of these features is laughable.. just my 2 cents

Give us uncompressed PNG screenshot support its sad the competition does it but ps4 doesn’t. Games look far worst on ps4 because of this and no transferring screenshots to USB is not uncompressed it’s still jpg. screenshots. Do your research people you’re so way out of touch with us gamers and don’t know what we want and usually give it to us late even if you do find out. You have yet to give us USB support the way its suppose to be not the sad excuse you gave us and you have yet to give us video support for all formats like Xbox does. Sadly I’m done with Sony this is my last PlayStation I’m sick of the horrible job and poor support in features we are getting and I’m sick and tired of Sony not listening to us and giving us what we want in a timely manner.
Hopefully this fixes the bug where you can’t access PSN until you log out and log back in again. It’s been happening very frequently lately.
I wish Sony would make a PlayStation app for Windows and Windows Phone. Great universal so for Windows 8.1/10 and Windows Phone 8.1/10 would be awesome on my Mums Lumia Icon.

I JUST GOT PS VUE AND LOVE IT… I HAVE A SONY 55HX850 AND A BDV-N790W SO I AM ALL SONY…ALL DAY.. I WILL NOT EVEN BUY ANY OTHER BRAND FOR MY TV AND SOUND SYSTEM.. GAME SYSTEM TOO. I WORKED FOR SONY FOR MANY YEARS IN POTTSTOWN PA AT A SONY STORE..SO I KNOW THE POWER OF PLAY! Wait, can we not view the screenshots directly from our trophy list? That’s a shame, I had thought that was part of it (It’d be great to be able to view my friends’ pictures and compare them to my own). Regardless, it’s nice to have this feature for Bloodborne.
Could we please get some more touchpad support, though? I’d like to be able to quickly swipe and click to navigate the main menus (Like in LBP3), and it’s still unfathomable as to why it doesn’t work for the Internet Browser.

The new update looks like its going to give players a lot of nice features including the suspend & resume feature. But I have to be honest they hole re-map button feature don’t sound that exciting. But besides that it going to be a good update/patch.
Being able to see your playtime for each game would fantastic. I hope you make it possible on the next update.

I don’t know why it’s so complicated for them to implement an option to turn off the screenshot notification. It’ll sit there for up to ten seconds, all the while I want to take another screenshot. I of course could do so but the ugly notification shows up in the shot. I still don’t understand why that was programmed to happen to begin with.

How about a simple games folder and an apps folder. No games, apps or demos I once tried and then deleted. Just 2 simple folders, one with games that are on the hd and another with the apps that are on the hd. That’s it.

Yea, no DLNA support. Guess this wasn’t something I bothered to research but when I tried to stream a video I recorded from an Android device it didn’t even show the PS4. The PS3 had it, I didn’t think there would be such a crippling regression in capabilities. I’m bringing this back tomorrow. I’m getting an Xbox One instead. This PS4 is like going back to a PS2/XBox in media capabilities… My television does not have enough HDMI ports to hook up endless amounts of devices. I expect a $400 device that is an upgrade for something that provided this to provide this functionality. I got the PS4 to play with m brother, but he can die lonely before I “waste” that much money on a device that lacks in such a fundamental way compared to something I could have gotten for less cash.
If I back up my PS4’s hard drive contents to a USB using this new feature, can I restore the contents to a different PS4? I remember on the PS3, some things would transfer, while others — specifically profiles — wouldn’t, and I hate the fact that I can’t move my save data from one PS4 to another without being on the Internet first. Being able to have an offline backup that I can restore anywhere (including my synced profiles) would be fantastic, and it would actually get me to buy a system.
only 1 update is needed in here and that is friends appre online/offline pop up with sound but please have a 30 sed delete between each user pop up so it did not spam like the “your friend has join a party” does (i’d disable it for that reason)
I’m pretty bummed that I’ll be losing Youtube on the Vita. Surprisingly, I used it a lot. It really came in handy when I wanted to look up something about a game that I’m playing. Really comes in handy in RPG’s.
I love the new stuff! My biggest change I would like is to be able to organize the apps under TV and Video menu.

we’re still waiting on DNLA, Media Playback and Media storage. Very happy about some of these features that come in 2.5, but we still want the media updates. Thanks. Please hurry with these. I had to go buy another PS3 just because of the lack of media support. The PS4 needs to have these features. Don’t let us Sony loyalists down guys.
