Tomorrow, PlayStation 4 will get an update to system software version 2.50, codenamed “Yukimura,” which will bring an onslaught of features: some you’ve been anticipating, many you’ve requested, and others that might surprise you. This update will make significant improvements to your PS4 experience, making it even more streamlined and enjoyable.
Following the update, you’ll be able to smoothly pick games up right where you left off, find and connect with friends quicker, customize your experience and share your most epic moments in a more meaningful way.
PlayStation 4 v2.50 Update
Features coming to PS4 with “Yukimura” include:
- Suspend/Resume* — Supported by nearly all of your PS4 games, you can jump in and out of your games with just the press of the PS button. Quickly switch from Rest Mode to powered-up so you can pick up where you left off.
- Back-Up and Restore HDD to USB — Back-up and restore your hard disc drive data associated with users on your PS4, including settings, saved data, screenshots and video clips as well as games, patches and download data, to and from an external USB drive.
- Find and Connect with Friends — “Yukimura” adds to an already robust set of social tools, bringing several updates to continue making PS4 the best place to play with your friends, including:
- Facebook Friend Finder — Using your linked account, you can expand your network by searching and connecting with your Facebook friends.
- Improved Friend requests — Friend requests and Real Name requests can be sent together in one step when adding a friend on PS4.
- Streamlined Party process — The process to create a Party has been streamlined with a reduction in the number of steps required.
- Find Friends who play your games — Easily view what friends are playing on each game detail page with a real-time “Friends Who Play This” section, which also highlights which friends are currently online and playing it, and if you own the game, allows you to jump directly into the game.
- Join Friends directly from news feed — A new tile will be added on your What’s New feed where you can see what your friends are currently playing, enabling you to join in the game if you own it.
- Share Earned Trophies and Optimize Your Trophy List — We know that Trophies are important to many gamers, so we’re bringing more control with how you show them off:
- Automatic Trophy Screenshots — A screenshot will automatically be captured when a Trophy is earned, preserving the moment to share with friends.
- SHARE Trophies — Players can share Trophy information to Facebook, Twitter or via Message by pressing the SHARE button.
- Additional Trophy sorting options — Sort your Trophy list by Earned Date, Not Earned and Grade.
- Delete 0% Trophies — Remove games from your Trophy list that have zero percent completion.
- Improved and Expanded Accessibility Options — New options added to customize the user experience include:
- Customized button assignments for DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller.
- Zoom for displayed pictures and inverted colors for all system functions, apps and in-game.
- Text-to-speech is available only for Message and Party, and is only performed in English.**
- Enlarged text for all graphical user interface, including Message and Party, as well as the system’s browser.
- Bolder fonts and higher contrast UI for all system applications (but will not apply to games or third-party applications).
- Remote Play and Share Play — For games that support 60 fps, users will be able to automatically enjoy those games with 60 fps for both Remote Play and Share Play*** on supported devices.
- Automatic Installation for System Software Updates — Enable automatic installation for future system software updates.
- Sub-Account Upgrade — Enable users 18 years of age or older with sub-accounts to upgrade to a master account directly on PS4, removing restrictions on chat and enabling users to add funds to their Wallet, purchase content and more.
- Verified Accounts — Select game developers, producers, designers and community managers will be verified with a badge.
- Dailymotion — Upload video clips directly to Dailymotion via the SHARE button.
PlayStation Vita and PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets will also receive system software updates tonight, adding complementary features to those added to PS4. PS Vita update version 3.50 and PlayStation App update version 2.50 will add new accessibility options, including enlarged text, increased contrast and more. This update also enables PS Vita to support 60 fps streaming for Remote Play***.

The fantastic thing is that speech can be enabled. The less than fantastic thing is that none of the menus are reading. Is this possibly a theming issue? If anyone takes two minutes to mess with tts, please let me know.
Zoom and control simultanly would be awesome! And for the vita too, then wie can zoom when we play splitscreen. One can play on ps4 and the other on PSVita with full screen.

Its also nice seeing the PlayStation insignia on the Sony apps. The 1 thing I don like is that the PlayStation store is an official box now. Boo. Please change it back. Other than that I Hate to see the VITA loose functions; doesn’t bode well . Im still deluding myself into thinking your droppin VITA stuff to make way for some random Giant improvement on it or a VITA 3000,please let me be right. Please don take my beloved VITA !!

You still cant see who logs in when you’re playing a game or watching something.
Just annoying go through the friends list just to find out who’s online.
I am looking forward to the new updates, mostly being able to remove 0% trophies (eyesore).
I’d personally would like to see in the next update is the notice that tells you a friend has signed in/out, is playing. Most of all a option to change your PSN name. If Xbox can do it then you should (since you’re better and all). I’d gladly pay $5 to change my name.

Custon Button options doesnt work for remote play :(. I was so happy when the announced this feature because the l2r2 on touchscreen is a real pain.
Text-to-speech for all graphical user interface, including Message and Party. That is absolutely incorrect Sony. The only interface elements that are speaking are message and party. I still am glad that we have the improvements, but Sony has been less than truthful in advertising what will and won’t speak. It is still a start, but it certainly is disappointing to say the least. Out of all the screens on the ps4, only the message and party screens provide any spoken feedback. No settings, NO library, not even the home screen. The only way to find messages and party is by trial and error. *sighs*. I’ll be positive about one thing though. The screens that speak speak really well. I’m able to dash off messages to friends, and create partys. This is a step forward, but I thought there would be much more. Still glad to see Sony is addressing accessibility which is way more than I can say for other companies.

What about deleting trophies, period? Having the option to turn off trophies? Not just set it to where others can’t see them, i mean totally blocking trophies so you can’t even get new ones after deleting the rest? I’d love that option please.

If you go into your settings, there should be an option to remove the 15 item lock on your bottom screen. It was one of the first things I disabled.

Please improve the video playback experience for viewing recorded clips. It always starts from beginning once i go back from video playback. It was very good interface for video playback in ps3. please make a rich interface for this.
I would like the party system to be fixed where the nat type goes out everytime we get a certain amount of people in the party.

Deleting trophies with 0% needs to be on PS3 as well so we can delete SingStar trophies that a lot of PS3ers didn’t want in the first place.
Also, please put the DNLA or whatever is called where I could put USB music into the PS4 console like PS3 had. I would like to be able use proper entrance music in my WWE 2K16 like in all past WWE on PS3 before 2K15.

i don’t get the hype for the Suspend/Resume features :\ there’s no point having this feature since modern gaming is dumbed down , hand holding , no challenge and casual fest and there’s also no point , because Modern games have Checkpoints every second and autosave every 2 steps so this was a waste of time.
Ok so this is rather annoying. My internet is fine, checked 5 times and the spend and connection is fine. Yet this damn 2.50 update isn’t allowing me to log on psn, the update is 245mb and says 20-70 hours. What the DUCK is this bs?
1) Trophy deletion/hiding should be added for PS3 and Vita as well. Also you should be able to do it for games where < 50% of the trophies have been obtained or something like that, there are a handful of games I've started playing and then tossed aside because they were crap.
2) Unification of trophy lists NEEDS to happen. It is silly that the Vita and PS4 versions of SteamWorld Dig are considered different games, and don't share a trophy list.

Just so everyone knows there seems to be a compatible issue with some dynamic theme’s on ps4. I’m having an issue with the Lunar Rising Redux Dynamic Theme for PS4, I had a live chat with someone from sony and they said some theme’s on ps4 won’t work cause of compatible issues. Seriously Sony? You finally support external usb hard drives but you don’t let people pick and choose which games they want to back up. Just copy what Microsoft is doing with the usb hard drives because they nailed it. Come on Sony I thought you were supposed to be cutting edge. This isn’t ps3 from 2006. Get it right already.

So with the button mapping I can change how dying light buttons are mapped? Can this be done for all games? Do I have to do it every time I play the game?
I have to agree with poster #9 … Where is the Who’s online notification? Seriously?! This was supposed to be about social networking and I don’t even get notifications when my friends are coming online? What if I am trying to kill time until they come on so we can play a game together?? This to me seems like an EPIC failure by Sony..
Also, I am very disappointed in the PS4 not bringing forth the media player capabilities. One of the big things I enjoyed from my PS3 was the ability to stream movies and music from my home server. It made my PS3 that much more valuable. At present the PS4 in my eyes, more than a year post launch, it still isn’t worth as much as a PS3, sure good graphics and such, but I am expecting more from a premium system.
Lastly, and I will freely admit, I have no knowledge of what features Sony IS working on, but it would be nice to know, something might be on the radar, maybe in production, or such. At the very least, how about even having a check list of ideas that show Sony has heard what the people are asking for.. Not a Yes we will do this, but the fact of acknowledgement of requested features?? Does this exist?

I´m still waiting fot the Vita to be used as a normal controller for using on any game and split screen games. Just as easy as conect using BT and dont use the screen… less battery drain and everybody is happy. Thanks

I’m choked up and almost in tears. I know it sounds silly, but I have always wanted text enlargement and accessibilty options like this on a console and I’m so happy it finally happened.
I love all of the things added in this new update but I seriously did not expect that much attention given to the console options. The zoom feature is incredibily useful to me.
Now I can relax and even use Netflix while zoomed in to watch movies with my wife on the couch. (Something I have never been able to do.) YES, some of the faces in a movie are blurred for me but that’s not the point- life just got a little bit easier for me…..

How about an update that can improve on these ridiculous download times! 2hrs to download this software update and it’s only 245mb!! Plus PlayStation store needs sorting out, have bought 2 games from here recently and both have had trouble installing after download.
I came to post because i sincerely want to thank those at Playstation responsible for the zoom feature. I have poor vision, and sometimes have trouble reading menus that have small text, to the point that some games are less enjoyable because they are hard for me to read. The zoom feature seriously changes the way i play, and increases my enjoyment to a huge extent. I’m so happy right now. Zoom may not seem like a big deal if you don’t need it, but it is so super helpful in my everyday gaming, and i’m sure many other people will find it extremely useful So again, thank you to everyone involved in getting this feature onto Playstation 4. You’ve made the gaming experience for those of us who have a little trouble seeing the screen so much richer and even more fun.
I love how people are crying about not having PS One classics that they paid for. Those are available on your PS3 and PS Vita consoles. Nobody told you morons to sell your PS3. If you want your classic games you bought, go play them on the device you bought them on…..
Hey guys, I need some help… I’ve been using the Razer Kraken Pro on the PS4 and it’s been working perfectly, after i updated the system, every time I plug my headset in it says, “microphone has switched to the headset connected to the controller” followed by, “there is no longer a microphone you can use” I’m really confused and worried because i payed R1200 ($120)

I had just bought a hybrid drive last weekend and installed it and have been re-downloading all 400 gigs of my games. Today the patch comes out that would have made it super simple. Frustrating.
One thing I did notice was that PS+ online storage is limited to 1 gig and I’ve been over that for a while now. The minimum size of a save file in ps4 appears to be 10 megs. I’m thinking that limitation of 1 gig needs to be upped some.

Where is DLNA? Literally the only thing you should be working on right now. I’m not going to buy anything off your movie service because you removed it. I’m still considering switching to XBOX because you removed it. Add DLNA.
Does this have anything to do with the app being removed from the iOS App Store? I updated the app yesterday and it wasn’t working, so I deleted the app to reinstall and it’s no longer in the store.
