A Holiday Thank You

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

  • All you Sony employees flooding the comments with be glad with what you get ? How about you get a real job then? Since a 13 year old was involved in the crippling of ur system lol don’t talk it don’t ce out of ur pocket and 100 digital dollars in a store that sells digital stuff shouldn’t cry about it because it’s fake not real 100s passing hands just numbers on a screen lol sucks

  • People say they don’t expect compensation, but they must have not been around during the last hack. This seems like a cop-out. “Hey sorry for the disturbance your service, here’s a tiny little discount so you can give us more of your money.” Don’t get me wrong, I love my PS3 and will probably buy more game eventually, but seriously, treat your customers better.

  • So how are we gonna get the 10% discount? it’s gonna apply automatically to the shopping cart or are we receiving an email with the actual code? in any case, when? can we use the 10% on top of other promotions? does the 10% discount has an expiration or time frame to use it? does it have a limitation on the total amount of the purchase?

  • It’s great to see Sony doing this. But now someone should figure out about how much this will cost Sony and hand that figure over to the FBI. They can arrest that idiot Lizard Squad and make him at least pay for this. Not that he’ll ever be able to. But they should make an example of him. If you hack and cost a company a lot of money you have to pay them back.

  • It would be nice to have a general idea when the extension and the 10% code will be available. My PS Plus trial ended yesterday and I don’t want to renew yet as I may use the discount on purchasing the year PS+ sub.

  • Thank you Sony! This was not necessary as PS+ pays for itself in one month. I am one of your biggest fans and know you are for the gamer.

  • My ps4 connects to the internet and everything else like psn works, but i got the ps4 bundle that came with the code for one free game. When I go to the website to redeem it, it only says that I logged in successfully. Any ideas on how to fix it?

  • The outage didnt just effect plus members so I find it kinda unfair that people who didnt have plus at the time get no compensation.

  • so those of us that wanted to play ps3 with our family online during the hoidays get nothing.. but the 10% bull**** sale that they are pushing… really Sony? Really wanted to play against family members that couldnt come in for the holidays and all you do is offer 10% for more games… lame as hell.

  • So dam had to wait 6 days to redeem my 4 games 1 pick bundle and yet we the people that had to wait that long to redeem something simple buy nooooo Underfined Underfined underfined was able to download my free games yesterday plus the 4 hours to download it. I’m sure people are Still having issue redeeming there voucher codes like I did in the pass 6-7 days.

  • Well that’s kinda a load of crap, my ps+ expired on the 24th and I couldn’t renew because I was gonna do it that night and the network was down. Now I don’t get that ps+ extension

  • dont get me wrong.. sony is good.. but this is lame.. those of us that didnt have a PSPlus account for the hoildays basically got screwed also.

    We dont want 10% off .. I wanted to play with my family members over the holidays and because of your networks vulnerability we were not able to which kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Sony seems to be only interested in making money.. even at the expense of loosing dedicated customers.

  • I have been a fan of Sony since the PS1 and now it seems that they only value money and extended sales over doing what is needed to appease the players after something like this. Not only was our account information, names numbers and credit card info stolen a few months ago… but the network which should be secure after something like that.. was taken down by two people and DDOS attacks… something that has been around since the early 1990s.

  • Before when Sony was hacked (and it seems that are getting this more often than not) they made it right with free games and free months of PSPlus … something that had value to the player base. Extending sales so you can inflate your year end totals and offering 10% off to people who now are scared of purchasing anything with a Sony name on it especially after your service was taken down at the busiest time of the year is just a bad move, and just goes to show how far Sony has fallen out of touch with the real world and their client base.

  • Five additional days of PS+ service doesn’t show much contrition for your service being down during everyone’s holiday break. This is the absolute least you should do to make things square with your paying customers.

    A 10% off coupon? Oh boy, that $6 savings sure salves my bitter resentment of your service being down during my time off from work. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to give you more of my money.

    Wow Sony was generous enough to do all this and what do I find? People STILL complaining about getting a 5 DAY extension. 2 more days than you deserve, on top of a 10% CART discount.

    I have to say in all of the generations I’ve been gaming this is so far the worst and most entitled I’ve ever played in. People think they should get games for free or get $50 PSN cards. You people don’t deserve anything with all that self-entitledness. Be happy you get ANYTHING at all.

    Sony thank you for this kind gesture. You didn’t have to give anything to these entitled bunch you were kind enough to do it. So thank you.

  • Comments, as always, are a sad read. Amazing that anyone thinks their inability to play online games for a few days is worse than the people who worked through Christmas, probably on little to no sleep, trying to bring the service back up for them. You want real compensation? Get it from the people who brought the service down in the first place.

  • A holiday thank you? You mean a reimbursement for the days of PSN we paid for and did not receive due to your companies failure to deliver a promised product. If you didn’t give us these days you could have had a major class action lawsuit on your hands. We wouldn’t have gotten **** the lawyers would have got it all but still this is ridiculous. Please don’t throw this at us like it’s a blessing from you for the holidays. Were just getting what we paid for.

  • How wonderful of you! NOT!! We bought the ps4 for our kids for Christmas. Maybe they’ll be able to play with it by Easter. We still can’t connect to the network. Our every so valuable bundle came with a downloadable game, so much for that. I’ve been told to take it back to the store, by playstations own live chat agent ( it took 5 days for that option to even be available) because there’s something wrong with the hard drive. No luck there the store no longer has the bundles and won’t replace the games my bundle came with because it says it has to send everything back to Sony. Sony’s phone lines were down for 5 days. I finally get a hold of someone today and they tell me to call my internet provider I asked them to stay on the line with me while I did that. Yep they hung up on me! 2nd call 2nd hour on hold. I think I’m going to go get my money back and get my kids the XBOX One. Don’t sell what you can’t manage!!!!!!

How about a game of our choosing huh how about a list of 3 games of our choosing how about something thats actually says we here at PlayStation are sorry for our inadequate security and performance over the holidays?

(That means 4 is LESS than 5 for those that didn't pay attention in middle school and don't know what a "less than" sign is either…) Learn math/logic/reasoning/RESPECT kids before you start whining about what you "deserve".

  • I think that ‘s fair, there was no theft accounts, were only three days and Microsoft was also offline. The actual lesson is for Sony and Microsoft and the importance of listening to their customers when they talk to improve their services.

  • I really wish I knew what the people complaining feel like they lost in the days the servers were down. Lost time to play? (You are not a machine that needs to work 24/7) Didn’t level up in COD or GTA during those days? (Not missing much there) Missed out on a Destiny Date? (Destiny isn’t really a good place to get dates anyways)

    Honestly, people should expect compensation from the people who started this mess and you know they would give you nothing for the problems they caused.

    I’m glad Sony wanted to do something for people that lost nothing for their troubles.

  • There will always be people that aren’t satisfied, but this was a great move. People expecting free games like last time, but last time we were off for months. This amount of time does not justify a free game. Besides, we already get free games now.

  • what you want sony to do give you a free 60 dollar game for you being down for few days –what sony is doing is more than adequate–which is more than what I can say for that other company that was down as well

  • All I want is for SCEA to reimburse us for the PS+ days that are wasted whenever there is an outage so this is a step in the right direction. I’m not sure if it covers all the outages over the year but I’m happy with this. The 10% off is a nice gesture although I’m sure most of us have already bought whatever it is that we wanted to begin with… unless, of course, there’s a longer expiry date (or no expiry date at all) and if it’s able to stack on top of existing discounts (although I doubt it).

  • So for your complete lack of competency regarding these attacks you are adding 5 days to my 500+ day account… and adding a one time 10% discount to games that are already 25-30% overpriced compared to their boxed brethren (I understand that the US don’t get this as the EU is propping up their low prices)?

    How can any of you see this as adequate recompense? The Xboners got a game, and they rarely have this kind of thing. PSN has it all the time.

  • Discounts and a five day extension sounds like bull why not give loyal players a free game nothing expensive but something 10 or 15 bucks normally. But hey this **** happens once every year it seems cause ***hole hackers

  • So sony is giving us a 5 day extension to a membership we are more than likely going to renew anyways…and 10% of any game or movie that we could buy off amazon for cheaper…I wonder what microsoft is doing..

And dude I highly doubt that you would have bought a 1 year subscription to PSN if you only got a “few days off a year” to play. You need to see that THIS IS YOUR COMPENSATION and quit crying. People act like 3 days without PSN literally killed them. IT WAS ONLY 3 DAYS OF YOUR ENTIRE LIVES!!
    Anyways, thank you SONY!! It’s nice to see that the majority of the people on here DO appreciate what you are doing with this gesture. More protection against this kind of attack is ALL we should be asking for.

  • Happy New Year’s PlayStation and thank you for the compensation because something is better than nothing and as I see there are a lot of whiners on here. They don’t seem to realize that something is better than nothing once again happy new year and thank you PSN! OG-RIDER! One more last thing you people should realize that PSN did not have to give us anything but they did so be happy with what you got!! ???? happy new yeah everybody!

    I doubt paying for online multiplayer does lead to improvements. I mean, during the PS3 era, there was only one instance of down time (which I overlook because it was partially to deal with an issue that allowed people who had access to the developer’s side of the store to pirate games), PS4 has had multiple instances of DDOS attacks, which there have been some people saying nothing can be done about.
