A Holiday Thank You

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

  • But what about those that bought a PS4 (let’s say before or on the 26th of December where as they were unable to input their codes nor could they activate PS+)?? I know that the 26th is boxing day.

  • What I’m annoyed with is that I was trying to renew my PS Plus subscription on Christmas day because it had just expired a few days previous. (Which is also annoying, because I originally activated it ON Christmas day.) So not only could I not activate it or play any of my games, but I also will be excluded from the compensation since my Plus account wasn’t active.

  • So because I do not have a plus membership I am f….ed up? I get nothing at all from it, maybe it will be better if I move to Xbox One…

  • To those complaining: What more do you want!? They have not only given you the days you paid for back, but they’ve given you extra days. They didn’t stop there, though. I would hate to call any one of you family or friend – you’re ungrateful.

    Sony, thank you for gesture. All is forgiven.

    However, I’d suggest providing a little more detail to your customers about what is being done and the current status.

  • This offer is useless to me. The best thing Sony can do is fix the problem. So get on it.

  • Well I am well discussed with this, what’s 5am extra PlayStation plus??? I think 1 free download from psn store of our choice, excluding the game bundles, I think a lot of people will agree with me.   • @xolan99 They can keep their discount. All I want from Sony is better communication/updates and customer service when stuff like this happens. Or maybe use that discount money to improve the quality of the PSN instead of buying off fans.

    What good is a 5 day extension might as well not give anything at all and how
    convenient 10% off off your cart, you mean we have to buy something in order
    to get your thanks for being understanding that you have such bad security.
    What is going to happen next time when people actually loose their accounts
    or worse? Are you just giving a 10 day extension ? This such a joke for
    an apology and attempt to redeem yourself Sony I expected at least a good free
    game, but I guess these is to be expected from a company that only cares about
    profit not their customers.

  • There is 2 extremes here. People wanting free $50 psn cards or some such thing, and those that say Sony owes us nothing and we should be happy to be inconvenienced by them not letting loyal and new customers play the games consoles from the sales season that makes or breaks their year.

    Some perspective.

    Sony has a minimum profit margin of 20% off of everything in their online store, and much more on their own products / services.

    To offer some limited time 10% off cart token while potentially useful to some is not some amazing god send.

    It sends the message of, you are not happy with your purchases based on our service level and lack of communication (professionalism) You should spend more money because we are doing you a favour.

  • The people chomping at the bit to roll that discount onto more ps+ memberships is self defeating. The whole issue even without the hacks is that we are now paying for substandard online network. It is nowhere up to snuff to XboxLive in terms of features and usability, and it never has been. The reason it was not a deal breaker before is that it was “gratis” and still is on ps3 / vita.

    I could care less about the 10% off and the 5 days in truth, it is a nice gesture and I realize they “don’t have to do anything”

    But the reality is that for many Christmas was really diminished and the enjoyment and excitement, including a lot of kids and families was squandered, even if it was the fault of some losers doing a ddos attack.

    They did not communicate to their fan base and they rarely do and that is what is most frustrating for the loyal users.

  • For those thinking the office people and blog people had to go in on their holidays to fix then network are clueless. This is in the realm of data centre employees and network specialists etc. Those guys work 365 so wake up on that point. And those guys that were off are on call for this sort of thing it’s in the job description so stop bending over congratulating blog mouthpieces for “saving the day” after the fact. 4 posts on twitter or facebook over the course of any of these sort of things is poor, you should update on the blog if the blog is the official forum which it is. it is the only one that doesn’t require some stupid ad revenue based membership so I will continue to treat it as the official source of news.

    I want my fifa 15 ps4 online experience to be up to snuff with live, and it isn’t. When are you going to give us the behind the 8 ball features that ps3 has? when are you going to give me value for the money with this online requirement?

  • I’d suggest dropping the PS+ requirement for online multiplayer on (nonMMO and F2P) PS4 games. People keep saying PS+ is great, but if that’s the case, that would make it overkill. Actually, it’s holding the PS4’s console sales back. There are people who are reluctant to buy a PS4 because of it. I happen to be one of those people, myself.

  • For those saying I should just go xbox or Nintendo, keep in mind we have a right to hold a company to task with their claims. They do many things well, but they fall short on a lot too.

    I’m happy that you love the offering they are giving, and if you think they owe you UC4 that is fine too.

    I’m not a new user I have all 3 sony platforms and many of their products but they have a long track record of mistakes and false promises that are only addressed or apologized afterwards.

    Where is the Driveclub PS+Edition? that was the last one before this one and there have been many others.

  • Can you guys please fix the loss of connection with EA servers? I have lost a total of 4 friendly seasons and 4 seasons games where my PS4 just disconnects to EA servers though still connected to PSN. This is very frustrating. Please help?

  • so since the 25th huh?what about us who were going to activate our ps plus cards when we got them on christmas huh? we couldnt do that cause your network got hacked now if you did this after the 35th when there servers were up i wouldnt have a problem but you didnt so all i can say is im dissapointed in you sony

  • Heh, these comments remind me of working for a corporate hotel in a downtown sector. Its so amazing how far up & down personal expectations are (for better or worse) with the people you meet at a hotel’s front desk. Some people simply want their complaints to be heard & receive empathy. Others won’t be satisfied until everything they do on a weekend is 100% free. And everywhere in between………….

    I applaud Sony for offering at least some compensation, even if it won’t satisfy 100% of PSN users. As a PS3 owner, I’ll get some use out of it, and will continue to enjoy another year or two of use from my PS3. However, as a customer also planning on purchasing a next gen console soon, I’m more likely to get an Xbox One. I’m done waiting for improvement on PSN. If I’m forced to pay for online play, I’d rather just invest in Microsoft now. Being free made up for a lot of the PSN’s shortcomings, but not anymore.

  • Not impressed. Especially since I had to use a YouTube link in order to get everything working. AFTER you announced the network was up and running. Only parts of it worked, and it wasn’t just me having that same problem. Glad I had held off activating plus membership (which is another story) and thinking perhaps I should reconsider doing so. Far too much of what we are ‘promised’ seems to come with ‘strings’ attached, and your cavalier attitude about an ongoing concern is not helping.

    is that the online is no better than ps3 was, and worse than that while there are new features like party chat (which 360 had since 2005) there are missing features from ps4 that ps3 has. There is no reputation system for trolls and racist/bigots/vulgar abusers there is no real matchmaking features, most of the time you cannot see who you played with recently in the ps4 os, it is a let down.

    It’s been over a year and it hasn’t been addressed it is still frankly substandard, and with the highlight of the offerings from launch till this month being a ps3 port of injustice which sells for under $15 retail, and Infamous First light a game that rated in the low 7’s you have to wonder about what you are actually paying for with the Online requirement.

    It needs to improve

  • Still waiting on suspend state for ps4 this was promised way back in February of 2013, where is it? I would like to pause my game put ps4 in rest mode / standby make my toddler lunch etc while he watches his shows then turn it back on and pick right up when he is having his nap. If I only have a 90 – 100 minute break the suspend state would be useful and I’m still waiting.

    They will not drop the PS+ online requirement, what I do expect is that they bring it up to at least the standard of the competitor, then stuff like shareplay might actually be something to bandy about. For those that don’t hold them to task for this as a business making promises for why we should pay for online you should think about it when you say i’m entitled. I am entitled what they promise for what they ask me to pay.

    Improve the online we are paying for it. It’s not good enough full stop.

    Why you then post the network was back up when it was only up for a certain percentage of people.

    Why did we have to follow you on facebook and twitter to get all the little info you where giving out?

    Why wern’t there more reagular updates.It only takes one person with a computer phone or tablet to give updates.

    Why wasn’t all this info being posted on your blog? I bought sony products I would like to get my info from I sony website.

    Why was your phone support so bad.There are numerous reports of customer’s being hung up on and lied to that is unexceptable.

    You extended the sale are giving us a 10% off codes but have given us no assurance that you have taken steps to insure your online service stability.

    I would like someone from sony to say publicly that we could have handled this situation alot better and we well do are best to do better in the future.

    That is worth alot more to me then 5 days extension and 10% off

  • Not being able to mute or block racists/bigots/trolls/griefers, with some level of ease is unforgivable in 2015. It makes the online more often than not obnoxious and to make me pay to hear people spew crap in competitive games is nonsense. It is not handled well in most of the games themselves and there needs to be a top line ps4 system to make it better to play online.

    I don’t get it.

    it does me no good to see all of this facebook integration etc when the core multiplayer experience is so flawed.

    I hope 2015 sees a vast improvement on the online play; features and usability but I will not hold my breath.

  • 10% isn’t much, you’re just doing that so people spend more money in the psn store, not everyone buys digital, so this is useless for a lot of people unless we use it on dlc, and what is that? like 1 dollar off if i buy a 10 dollar game? that’s 5 days of ps plus i lost that i paid for which is about 1 dollar if i bought the full year, even more if i didn’t buy it for a year, your logic is fail

    when it was down for 2 weeks you gave us a choice of 2 games out of a set of games, why cant we have a choice of 1 game since it was half the time as the last hack? Or how about this, you actually use the damn money we pay into ps plus to upgrade your horrible servers

    My friend couldn’t even play his games offline because it said he had to restore his licenses which he couldn’t get on psn for 5 days to do

    I honestly don’t want anything free, no discounts, no free games, JUST UPGRADE YOUR SERVERS PLEASEEEE

  • System goes down for the holidays for 3 days and all you give is 5 free days of PSN which you give for free with the purchuse of new ps4… and 10% off a ps store purchuse which is gonna save me 4$ on a forty dollar purchuse? You are a joke… talk about no customer service…. glad I’ve spent close to 10,000 on your video games since ps1, 2, 3 and 4… you don’t care about the customer… only the money… can’t wait to go buy an Xbox

For those crying saying xmas was my only time off to be able to play ps4… ummm…. maybe you shouldnt even have a gaming system if the only time your claiming you can game is during xmas… smh.

  • if i had ps+ i would be happy but seriously it wasnt just down for ps+ members they already get free games as an active customer and i have bought gta and some other stuff all i get is a 10% discount? happy new year thanks but no thanks.i was pretty pumped then it is only ps plus…. welp we have a new microsoft.

  • Thank you for trying to make some kind of amends for the Christmas mess. Five days is acceptable. That is what we wanted as compensation, not the 50 cents that some silly people kept throwing out there trying to belittle people who rightfully wanted compensation for being unable to use a service they paid for at Christmas time.

  • They are bastards, let us 3 days without PLUS a service for which we paid compulsorily PS4, because they’re useless and takes 3 days to fix the saddest thing that the service continues to problems and complaints, Microsoft takes me eight hours to fix the service they tore down, 5 clear thick, and you took a multimillion dollar company more than 3 days to almost fix the service, give me Sony shame, a shame since the PS4 is purchased because otherwise I would spend the Xbox One, Sony Congratulations your service is rubbish and not even offer a statement apologizing, the only thing you give us a discount to spend more money in the store that also is very wrong. Segui so Sony will miss this generation as lost last longer.
