As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

My PSN is still down, it’s not my internet so i’m not sure what to do…?!
I think some people are really over reacting to this, I got a ps4 for Christmas with watchdogs and a download code for the last of us remastered. I admit its a shame that myself and other people weren’t able to use their new playstations over Christmas but just because we couldn’t get onto psn doesn’t mean it’s ruined Xmas for gamers, I spent more time with my family (cheesy I know, but true) and whenIi did go on my ps4 I spent time exploring the area in watchdogs and doing the offline tasks. People need to remember that while they are sitting moaning that they can’t connect to psn, other people are sitting behind a desk at Christmas trying to fix that for you. You’ve got the whole year to play on your consoles, why do a few days matter?

its Dec.29th and I still don’t have service….. I’m less than satisfied at this point.
To the people who still having problems with logging in to the PSN. You need to tinker around with your WiFi settings. Maybe disconnect it completely from your PS4/PS3 and then connect it back. I waited 5 days for playstation to tell me a solution and well, you ca see how that went. Anyways, I went into my Wifi settings and when I reconnected it, I did it in the custom settings. I changed the MTU from 1500 to 1473. I honestly don’t know what this effects but it fixed my PSN. I am able to use it again. I found this solution from reading some other people’s comments. This method worked for me.

I tried to avoid all type of online gaming consoles as long as possible because I knew there is going to be issues. Year ago I had to finally purchase PS4 and there has been nothing but problems everafter.
I’m 40 years old and I don’t have time to waste when I have some free time to play. All games should have some offline version included which would work even if the Evil PSN Matrix is down. Fix it fast and fix permanently! I just want to play, please.
okay this is getting ridiculous day 4 and still can’t get on
I see that the network is back up, however I’m still experiencing issues with my PS3. It keeps telling me that the file system was corrupted and the system needs to restore. I have restored this system multiple times, and sometimes I can get in a little game play, or watch Netflix. Yesterday, the console worked long enough to watch a Blu Ray. I have to keep shutting the system off from the switch in the back because the entire thing just freezes up. Then I get the “restore” message. Restoring can take 4-5 hrs at a time. This has been extremely frustrating. My console has worked perfectly up until Christmas.
Is this part of the hack issue or is my console broken? Can anyone help? Thanks..

I can´t still get online with my PS4! What a f…! I payed monthly to play online and the system ist still down. Can I have my money back?
PSN is working. If it wasn’t, PS3’s wouldn’t work, and mine works fine. I changed MTU’s Sunday on my network setting for my PS4 to 1475, and it worked fine. If 1475 doesn’t work, try 1473. If 1473 doesn’t work, try 1469. Keep lowering the number and try again. Since you can manually change network settings as much as you need, just keep trying smaller and smaller numbers.
I’m still can’t sign in to my ps4 can someone let me know if the psn is still down or have I got to do something to get it up and running ?
it has been 2 days since this statement has been released and I’m still not online I can’t access the store and i cant do any updates taking a fair while
I am unable to sign into the PSN. My friends are able to play online but i am not. I have reset my rouder an everything that it suggests i do. So Why is this? What can i do?
@pwr6phil I’d say it’s your console, but I guess that would depend on how old it is, and how many hours you have on it. Sounds to me like hardware is fried. Happened to my first PS3. Playing Skyrim, the video card just burnt out.

If some of you are still having problems signing in try changing your MTU setting to 1473 or 1450.
If you dont know how, go to Settings > Network > Setup Connection > Manually > Wifi or LAN. Leave everything on automatic until you come up to MTU Settings. There you need to change it to 1473 or 1450 manually. 1473 didnt work for me but 1450 did. Although once the psn is fully stabilized I suggest changing the MTU to its default setting.
Still not able to log on to PSN in Holland, will Sony compensate for the loss, trouble and disappointment??

@Aladdin7910 PSN is up, and this issue has nothing to do with people’s routers, or modems.
Some people have luck with changing the network setting in the PS4 manually, to change MTU from 1500 to 1475, or 1473. And I gather that doesn’t work for everyone, but I also suggest that if it doesn’t, keep lowering the number a couple numbers at a time. Some people said setting it to 1400 works. All I know is that 1500 doesn’t work, and 1475 does, for me.

First, we should not trust sony, they had made mistakes before, we are too stupid to believe in them.
Second, xbox is online, we should throw away the ps4 and get xbox. Sitting here waiting for sony takes forever.

Hi. I STILL cannot sign into PSN, keeps giving me error code NW-31194-8. I have tried all the suggested actions, even changed my password etc but still nothing. What is going on???

Network is still down. This is day 5 that I haven’t been able to log on! Of course playstation SAYS that the network is back online but I’m sure that’s just a lie to cover up their lax security. It’s doubtful i’ll be buying anymore premium services when the service is so easily hacked, you would think that at least some of the $100+ that is spent on the game & season pass would include some kind of security.
Sony is just plain lying at this point and I’m doubting they have any engineers that are actually capable

This is getting beyond a joke. I stupidly followed the useless advice given by your support team just to try and get online, and in the process, lost all my saved data. 5 days without being able to play any of my games, crap tech advice followed by loss of my personal media because your ‘tech-monkeys’ are clueless.
I want compensation for the time I have lost on my FFXIV subscription because your engineers cannot find the ‘factory reset button’ for the PSN.
Sort it out.

I have only ever had playstation and I love it, these things happen
But it’s on four days now so hopefully it’s sorted soon, it’s given me a chance to play some campaign, I appreciate all the effort the engineers have put in, just a little more effort n a lot of my fellow gamers will be very happy indeed, playstation for life
It’s still not working for me it just just gives me a error code like it has been doing for the past 3 days they need to hurry up and sort it out!

All I can tell everyone is that setting the Network setting MTU manually to 1477 and lower worked for me. Anything above 1477 didn’t work. So for those of you who can’t get, say 1473 to work for you, try lower. Try 1450. Try 1400. Just keep trying numbers between 1477 and 1400
OK SOLVED: If you’re still having problems GO TO Network Settings on your PS4 and set up internet connection manually. Change MTU number from 1500 to 1400. I then connected right away. Let me know how it worked out for you!!!! Lets go play!
