With the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta launching TODAY, Tuesday, June 28, we want to make everyone has full details! We’ve compiled a handy little UPDATED list of Frequently Asked Questions below. If you’ve got any other questions, let us know in the comments and we’ll answer what we can!
When can I start playing?
Tuesday, June 28, for all inFAMOUS 2 and current PlayStation Plus members, who all get early access to the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta.
If you’re not an owner of inFAMOUS 2 or a current PlayStation Plus member, we’re opening the floodgates to the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta for EVERYONE on Tuesday, July 5.
What time EXACTLY can I start playing?
When the PlayStation Store updates today. While we can’t guarantee an exact time the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta will likely start propagating on the PSN Stores around the world at around 2:00 PM PDT (what time is that in my city?).
It may not be available right at that time, as there are a lot of things involved into making this happen, so please be patient if you don’t spot it immediately. Keep an eye out on the Naughty Dog Twitter and we’ll update as soon as we know it’s gone live.
When does the Beta end?
The UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta will end on Thursday, July 14.
What modes and maps are available?
Throughout the three weeks of the Beta, we’ll be rotating through a variety competitive and co-op gametypes, along with access to three different maps.

Wait, what’s the Hardcore gametype and why haven’t I heard about this yet?
We’re revealing a brand new competitive gametype with today’s update – one that has been specifically requested by many members in our community!
The Hardcore gametype is Team Deathmatch stripped down to the core basics – no Boosters, no Medal Kickbacks, and no Power Plays. Weapon Mods are still available – be sure to head to the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta discussion forum and let us know what you think about how Weapon Mods feel within this gametype, along with anything else that you want to tell us!

Will Power Plays be active? What weapons will I have? What characters can I choose to play with? Will I be able to customize them? And Emblems?
Power Plays are active, so if you’re in a match that is decidedly lopsided, you’ll get to experience it. As far as weapons, we’ve got a good range of sidearms and long guns to use and unlock in the beta, such as the AK-47, G-MAL, Para – 9, M9 and more! You’ll only get to choose between a few characters, but you’ll have access to a limited set of customization options to personalize your character on both the Heroes and Villains team. You can also check out our Emblem editor and create your own custom emblems.
Can I play in Stereoscopic 3D and/or use split-screen?
YES! Yes, you can. But not at the same time.
Can I see my Facebook Friends list?
Yes, all of your Facebook Friends that have linked their Facebook account via their PS3 will appear on the Facebook Friends list in our multiplayer menu. Feel free to send them an invite to play the UNCHARTED 3 Beta!
Can I upload videos and photos to Facebook or YouTube?
No, that functionality is not available during the Beta.
Will my Beta progress or unlocks carry over to the final game?
No, what happens in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta stays in the Beta, however we’ve lined up some killer rewards for the retail version of UNCHARTED 3 if you keep playing in the Beta:
- Download the UNCHARTED 3 Beta and receive the exclusive UNCHARTED 3 PSN Beta Tester Avatar!
- Complete 10 matches in every mode of Competitive Multiplayer and receive the Exclusive Beta Decal Pack 1!
- Complete 5 matches in every mode of Co-operative Multiplayer and receive the Exclusive Beta Decal Pack 2!
- Complete 4 Treasure Sets and receive the Treasure Hunter’s Starter Pack!

Yes, it’s currently set to level 25.

We can’t stress this enough – please, please, PLEASE post in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta forum with your thoughts, complaints and suggestions! Your forum feedback was critical in finalizing the UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer modes between Beta and the final retail version. We absolutely want your feedback this time around as well. You will help us make a better multiplayer game.
UPDATE: We’ve made a temporary change the to the gametypes – we’ve taken out Plunder to investigate an issue and replaced it with Free For All
Freezes my ps3 5 times per hour. Come on Naughty Dog you can do better :(
game keeps freezing up my system wtf its done it 4 times already
Spursfann, you made a comment about the graphics being awesome for Battlefield 3…and made it appear that is your reasoning behind why Battlefield 3, in your eyes, will dominate Uncharted 3. Like I said, graphics do not make a game. Content, the community, and the support offered by the company making the game is what makes a game in the end.
EA is not known for putting a decent amount of content in their games. They usually only put in a handful of maps and a few game modes and call it an online game. A few weeks/months later they’ll slap in some maps they already have in the game as default maps and call it a map pack.
Naughty Dog has never run into that issue. The only “map packs” they add actually have something to them, rather than simply more access to maps you already own.
dude the gameplay looks sick i said the game looks amazing thats my opinion i think it will surpass UC3 in every way not to take anything from UC3. im playing both so nothing u say matters to me.

Finished a match and it froze my whole PS3 as soon as it got to the post game screen. So I assume I wont get those kills or medals or anything :(

This game is going to suffer CoD syndrome, with all of these “booster” perks, gun customizing, and “dress-up” it’s going to be like MW2 and B OPs, unbalanced, and rage inducing. Hell at the rate this beta is going, U3 MP will be worse than MW2’s! Not that I ever cared about either games’ MP.
Is game beta usually this bad ? ? ?
I can understand the server error, crawling frame rate or connection problems… but a beta client end software should not cause the PS3 to freeze so often… at most is no server response…

Looks Interesting. . .Hope It Delivers, just as the Campaign Consistently Does! Certainly the Customization looks Diverse & Deep.
Extra Features mentioned by ‘COG182’ & ‘MOD Speculation’ – like: One Time Boost Purchases, Facebook Co-op, Treasure Drop exclusivity and Co-op Interaction (High-Five / Fist Bump) Benefits – sound Innovative & Different.
My Only Concern is the Reliance on an Arbitrary Co-op, which seems Mandatory for your Multi-player participation! If you have someone on PSN or Facebook whose skill-sets you’re Familiar with, you’re Good. . .BUT when you’ve been thrown in with a NewB Or you aren’t Talented enough for some Other person; the Co-operative Multi-player Experience could be Less Enjoyable (I Suspect)!
Still failing…going back to the Xbox..
1st game: couldn’t get the one gun turret to work, then I couldn’t respawn anymore so I had to quit the match. I got a message saying I was disconnected from PSN and kept getting an error message about not connecting to the session manager. Quitting the game and restarting worked.
2nd game: gun turret worked this time but as soon as the match ended I got the message saying I was disconnected from PSN and my PS3 completely froze up.
How do you play a beta when you can’t connect, finish a match with out it freezing! Go back to the drawing board on this one! Just lost my sale!
Everytime I try to install it says error after 14.
I managed to play only one game, after multiple attempts to get past the “loading” screen failed, only for my second game to suffer from a terrible framerate that made it almost unplayable until it just froze… Forcing me to reset my PS3.
Think I’ll give up for now and try again in a day or two, when the server issues may be resolved… Kinda feel the 30-day free trial of PS Plus is a very bad thing for this beta, as the load on their servers is probably way too much. Most betas take a couple of weeks to build up to the sort of numbers that they are most likely dealing with right now.
My playstation also freezes after playing but i have the original 40 gb system.

i love it!!!!!!cant wait to get home from work and DL and play! I have been playing UC2 for the last 2 weeks and to make thing sweeter, UC2 has finally convinced my younger brother and his friend to finally get a PS3.. so far the beta is having freezing problems and errors for some. including me. I DID NOT RECEIVE MY BETA TESTER UC3 AVATAR NEITHER AFTER DL …WHY???????????????????
(for#fb332) U3 Beta is laggy. Working on 16 freezes, and 5 kick outs. Serious problem with being kick off for killing a teammate, when I didn’t fire a single shot!!!! Ruining my rep!!! Add’l issues with frame rate. Real slow play.

I can’t play or download until I get home tonight in about 5.hours so hopefully everyone is in bed when I get on.
This beta keeps making my ps3 freezing… and having framerate major issues and major lag and disconnects…..
I think everyone is expecting a demo not a beta. Just because some games call them betas they usually aren’t. This is, three game is what 4 and a bit months from release? Calm down people this is a real beta.
If you guys really want to help the game and get the bugs/glitches fixed… go to the Uncharted beta forums like Naughty Dog asked us to do. Complaining on here won’t help too much, go on the boards and report issues with the rest of the uncharted fans… I’ll be on the game tonight :)

Love the gameplay. I will give feedback on the proper channels but I had to give props to the Naughty Dog crew. Epic job guys and gals!!!!

Oh, and for those of you who have frozen like 20+ times.. you think you would have learned your lesson by now huh? lol.. just stop playing for a while.. I’m sure they will be patching the beta (they already had one patch….) to improve how it works. Makes no sense to play a game that constantly freezes on you… you will break your ps3 if you constantly have to reset it from freezing. Trust me, my old ps3 broke and so have MANY of my friends. Freezing is NOT good for the ps3.. if it’s happening more than 5 times a night… give the game a rest until the next patch. At least thats what I do. Not worth losing a ps3 over a buggy game/beta. With that said I have NO doubt that Naughty Dog’s game will be great come November when it’s fully done, can’t wait for the 1 player as well, the best part of it :)

what happen to our uc3 avatars after dL?
I would’ve posted this on Naughty Dog’s forums but I can’t seem to sign in there. The first thing I noticed immediately is how different the movement feels from the past Uncharted games. It feels awful in my opinion and I really hope that the actual game doesn’t stay that way. As for the bugs and glitches, well that’s pretty much all I’m getting so far. I realize it’s a beta but I’ve played several betas before and none of them were as frustrating and glitchy as this. I can rarely ever find a game and when I do it’s incredibly laggy, sometimes I get messages saying I’ve been booted for killing teammates without ever even having joined a match, and the most worrisome thing is that my ps3 has frozen multiple times. All of those things are fixable. Why change the movement though? That has me seriously worried for the final product.
Played 3 times FROZEN 3 times. Twice it froze after the matches ended and once during the match. Having problems even connecting now. Well I am done with it. Not even an upgrade from Uncharted 2. Actually the graphics look worse. Plays the same though.
Ok this game is so good i played some games but it keeps freaking freezing my ps3 i dont understand it ok i could see one time but it has happened like 6 times. Please get this fixed

is there any privet games on the beta it would be to good to have them as if someone found an out of map and was able to shoot everyone then that would be bad and it could be fixed before the game comes
People are making it really clear who has been in any real beta in the past and who has not. It is a BETA it is expected to have problems that is the point, report as many as you can regardless if you get in game or not.
It is not rocket science jeeeez.
I tried playing it earlier, and it was unplayable for me. Was getting maybe two frames per second framerate while playing, which is just awful. And the PS3 froze up in the second match I tried. I love the Uncharted games, and was really looking forward to the beta, but this is disappointing. I’ll try again tomorrow, hopefully it will be a smoother experience.
So, how do you get this beta avatar?
Also, it’s been very laggy so far. I’ve only played most of 1 match: towards the end it was slowing down almost to a complete halt. Then, it completely froze and I had to reset my system. I haven’t been able to play any more games since. I’m sure these are just launch-day troubles, and it will be better in the next few days.
Lag, lag, lag. It keeps freezing and I keep on losing all the xp I earn in matches, although i’m sure the full game will be perfect :)

Co-op is so much fun. Even though gameplay freezes from time to time it’s still a lot of fun.
I must say I was unimpressed with the multiplayer the guns barely do any damage.Half the time the players just run at one another spamming melee.I honestly hope that changes as I am looking for a good multiplayer game that isnt a fps.
