With the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta launching TODAY, Tuesday, June 28, we want to make everyone has full details! We’ve compiled a handy little UPDATED list of Frequently Asked Questions below. If you’ve got any other questions, let us know in the comments and we’ll answer what we can!
When can I start playing?
Tuesday, June 28, for all inFAMOUS 2 and current PlayStation Plus members, who all get early access to the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta.
If you’re not an owner of inFAMOUS 2 or a current PlayStation Plus member, we’re opening the floodgates to the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta for EVERYONE on Tuesday, July 5.
What time EXACTLY can I start playing?
When the PlayStation Store updates today. While we can’t guarantee an exact time the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta will likely start propagating on the PSN Stores around the world at around 2:00 PM PDT (what time is that in my city?).
It may not be available right at that time, as there are a lot of things involved into making this happen, so please be patient if you don’t spot it immediately. Keep an eye out on the Naughty Dog Twitter and we’ll update as soon as we know it’s gone live.
When does the Beta end?
The UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta will end on Thursday, July 14.
What modes and maps are available?
Throughout the three weeks of the Beta, we’ll be rotating through a variety competitive and co-op gametypes, along with access to three different maps.

Wait, what’s the Hardcore gametype and why haven’t I heard about this yet?
We’re revealing a brand new competitive gametype with today’s update – one that has been specifically requested by many members in our community!
The Hardcore gametype is Team Deathmatch stripped down to the core basics – no Boosters, no Medal Kickbacks, and no Power Plays. Weapon Mods are still available – be sure to head to the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta discussion forum and let us know what you think about how Weapon Mods feel within this gametype, along with anything else that you want to tell us!

Will Power Plays be active? What weapons will I have? What characters can I choose to play with? Will I be able to customize them? And Emblems?
Power Plays are active, so if you’re in a match that is decidedly lopsided, you’ll get to experience it. As far as weapons, we’ve got a good range of sidearms and long guns to use and unlock in the beta, such as the AK-47, G-MAL, Para – 9, M9 and more! You’ll only get to choose between a few characters, but you’ll have access to a limited set of customization options to personalize your character on both the Heroes and Villains team. You can also check out our Emblem editor and create your own custom emblems.
Can I play in Stereoscopic 3D and/or use split-screen?
YES! Yes, you can. But not at the same time.
Can I see my Facebook Friends list?
Yes, all of your Facebook Friends that have linked their Facebook account via their PS3 will appear on the Facebook Friends list in our multiplayer menu. Feel free to send them an invite to play the UNCHARTED 3 Beta!
Can I upload videos and photos to Facebook or YouTube?
No, that functionality is not available during the Beta.
Will my Beta progress or unlocks carry over to the final game?
No, what happens in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta stays in the Beta, however we’ve lined up some killer rewards for the retail version of UNCHARTED 3 if you keep playing in the Beta:
- Download the UNCHARTED 3 Beta and receive the exclusive UNCHARTED 3 PSN Beta Tester Avatar!
- Complete 10 matches in every mode of Competitive Multiplayer and receive the Exclusive Beta Decal Pack 1!
- Complete 5 matches in every mode of Co-operative Multiplayer and receive the Exclusive Beta Decal Pack 2!

Yes, it’s currently set to level 25.

We can’t stress this enough – please, please, PLEASE post in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta forum with your thoughts, complaints and suggestions! Your forum feedback was critical in finalizing the UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer modes between Beta and the final retail version. We absolutely want your feedback this time around as well. You will help us make a better multiplayer game.
UPDATE: We’ve made a temporary change the to the gametypes – we’ve taken out Plunder to investigate an issue and replaced it with Free For All
Freezes on me almost every time now. I’ve only played probably 3-4 matches without it freezing. It’s also laggy now even though I have a wired connection. The first matches I had were lag free, but I come back tonight and it’s a lag fest. I was also just playing a match on the Chataeu (spelling) map, and in the middle of the map somewhere I jumped over a ledge and I fell through the map and died…..Guess I’ll wait for an update on this…
I am really surprised there was no day one patch. This is the worst beta ever. Theres even lag in the menu. I wonder if the uncharted tv has anything to do with it. It works fine when first in the menu, but give it a few minutes then everything goes downhill. If I try to go back to the title screen, the game freezes. My internet is hardwired, running 30mbps, my other games don’t do this. Its a complete lag fest. Weren’t you guys sayin something about good servers?
I’m a lil disappointed bc it’s not as smooth as UC2 online they turn more stiff on this 1 on I also hot how they took away the way u could roll and throw ur grenade is that does get fixed there is a 100% chance I will not be getting UC3
thanks for freezing my ps3 the beta was completely unplayable… horrible framerate issues/ lag please fix this right away I feel like a douche for telling my friend to dL it and waste the space
you need to write a USE AT OWN RISK in bigger letters on the user agreement because this freezing is the same thing that YLOD and broke my original fat 60 gig ps3 about 2 years ago after playing confrontation beta when it frooze all the time

Honestly i think they should just get rid of that uncharted tv thing in the menu it is annoying and most likely causes the menu to lag. all the tv does is play trailers every one has already seen a million times. I get that ND is trying to make the menu lay out very fancy but that option IMO really is not needed.
well i get into a game and it starts having a strock…i then quit the game to try to go back to the XMB and then my ps3 randomly restarts and wen i try to relaunch the beta a psn error message comes up

ND, this is borderline unplayable at the moment, it shows promise but it really needs to be worked on. If this is what we look forward to at launch, I will stick to U2 thanks very much. PLEASE FIX THE BETA TONIGHT!
I mean I know it’s a beta but I’ve never seen a beta this out of working condition in my life.
@348 Indeed… The Uncharted TV might be a issue that is causing the slow down/lag. It really isn’t necessary either.. It would be better if they made the TV is’t own tab at the home menu for multiplayer if they really want to keep it ingame.
One more thing to note is the create an emblem system should include the ability to move parts around. That would be cool.
Other than that and the occasional freeze.. The online gameplay is pretty good, I Like the new weapon system and change overall to special stats and whatnot… Naughty Dog has out down themselves…

NaughtyDogg, why does it seem like you have to unload a whole clip to kill someone??
this beta made my ps3 sign out of the network. then when id try to log back on id get, error 8002AD3D, and couldnt get back online until i deleted the download. a lot of good this was. again, another problem with sony… u know, i was such a die hard sony fan, but with all the problems IVE had lately… i just dont know anymore…
So far, played 1 full match went pretty smoothly until the end of the game. Froze for a good 2 minutes, then finally the summary screen showed up. Second match, not even 5 minutes into the match, whole PS3 locked up, had to restart the PS3. Now going back on and trying again.

You are correct modernDAYaltair….just froze again. OK I give up for tonight. That’s just a bit disappointing thought.
Here is what Naughty Dog should do. Extend the Beta for 2 more days. But before doing that fix all the freezing and locking up PS3 bugs before making that announcement!
So far Day 1: All I have been hearing is freezing and locks up (I myself is having that problem)
I wonder if theres just way too much traffic in the game, couldnt even play coop, those were worse than the MP competitive.

Hey Arne, Me again, one more question. Is U3 running at the same FPS as U2? it just seems slower to me. And is every map cinematic? love it but idk if anyone wants to keep watching the same little sequences and getting taking out of their “zone” ya know.

It’s not psn’s servers its Naughty Dogs and they were not expecting this volume on day one of the beta. This is a true beta, this game is NOT done and they were expecting a tiny fraction of the players they have on there today. That’s why they do these incentives to only PS+ members because it’s a smaller sample to test of the servers and prepare for the massive crowds of open betas. When most other games do their “betas” they are really demos of the near finished product with only weapon balancing and server maintenance being what they are testing. Naughty Dog is doing a true beta that’s why this is 4 and a bit months before release compared to one month like most other games. It WILL get better but give it time, they were not expecting this today.
Or are they made slower so the “run” function could be added?
i noticed the numbers changed look at the numebrs at the top right when you conenct it use to be 33 now its 35 keep a out for that that tells you if there was a update.
I keep getting “Error initializing session manager” when I try to run the beta :'(
I give up for now. Played a co-op game and actually got to level 5, but at the end of the match it froze and I lost everything. Tried to play again, kicked me out of match saying I’m kicked for killing teammates. O_O Then it disconnects me and now I get the “Error initializing session manager” that has been happening to everyone. *Sigh* I’ll try again later & give my feedback at the forums. But I did have a lot fun when I was able to get into a co-op game. ^_^

I have already encountered 2 major problems:
1. the beta always locks up my ps3. the crashes arnt so bad that i have to turn it off with the switch, though.
2. from time to time i encounter some horrendous lag

Downloading the beta is very very very very slow .. My normal download speed in my PC is 1MB

im glad to see its not just me that is having the freezing problems. i have been excited for this beta for awhile now but i cant even play it. every time i try it freezes up on me. the last time i had to physically turn off my ps3 to solve the issue. i hear there is already a patch but im too frustrated to try again for awhile.
The 1.01 update patch is already released in HONG KONG server, so it could be out soon in America, too. Hope to solve these big problems. It is going to kill my PStation.

Okay…. Um is it just me or does this Fri-kin Beta not work!!!! I click on it to play it, brings me to title screen. I hit start, then BAM! Intiliazing Session Material Bla bla bla! I don’t even know what that means…… I got to play it once last night…… Now it’s not working!!! HELP>??
I tried and tried and tried numerous times to play, but the BETA kept locking up my PS3. The closest I got to playing a game was the timer counting down to 1 on the map select screen. I’m sure things will be better today as there was probably a massive amount of people downloading and trying to play the BETA as well. IMO, this should have been a phased roll-out. Let the OG Plus members or the iNFAMOUS2 people get in 1st, then a few days later let the other of those groups in, then a week later let the 30-day free Plus members in, and then 1 week after let everyone in. As it stands now, the floodgates were opened and everyone and their mom was trying to get in more than likely causing the issues that were happening yesterday. It definitely stress-tested NDs servers!!
To all those complaining about it and saying it better be cleared up or they wont get the game….I say MOVE ON! It is called a BETA for a reason. This game is 4+ months out from being released. You honestly think ND would put a product out that runs like it did yesterday? Wait….don’t answer that…please.
the uc 2 is much better than 3 .. the graphics are chalia.i move the player sucks. and has a very complex lobby. pistevo to not have success 2.kala will do naughty dog to start a new multiplayer which is like 2 ..

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! Even though I don’t have a PS3, this is the #1 game that I would get if I got one. I hope Uncharted: Golden Abyss has a similar multiplayer feature on the PSVita.
