Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. I bought mine about 2 weeks ago and it’s been kinda frustrating coming to this website and not being able to ask questions or say anything because i couldn’t get an account. but on the other hand, I’m super psyched to get to really play with my new PS3, Thanks for the hard work sony, you did good by me.

Thank you for all your hard work sony, been a loyal fan since the beginning. Interested to see what the welcome back program has to offer but honestly im just happy to be back. Oh and for the love of god please dont do cross game chat, some games are annoying as it is to communicate without throwing that in the mix. Instead more support for media files like video and music would be great. Keep up the good work sony
i have a curiosity, but i know you must’ve heard about the “lag switch”, with everything that went through i think is also a security issue as a well, did you guys did something about all this cheaters? is uncomfortable to play like this you know, at the end is only a game to have fun, why cheat, right? and besides is not only the cheating factor that pisses me off, but i been in situations that it stuck up my console and have to restart it and all that… and my concern is that it could break my system,if you work on it, i would like to know how, thank you.

First of all, kudos for taking the time to fix things properly. It was the right thing to do.
DLC PARALYSIS ISSUE: The PSN store being down has had broader consequences than just the sale and release of new content and multiplay – it’s also paralyzed a lot of existing offline content. In my case, I had to reinstall my copy of Dragonage Origins Ultimate Edition recently due to a data corruption issue, but because the game includes bundled DLC content, doing so paralyzed all my save games. I’d suppose many offline games with bundled DLCs share this problem, and thus cannot be (re)installed without PSN store access. It’s misleading to withold purchased content and instead provide embedded redemption codes on discs in lieu of actual content. Please end the practice.
PROPRIETARY SAVES: I’d also like to mention my dislike for proprietary save files that can only be backed up to the subscriber-only PSN+ online backups site, and which cannot be locally backed up to USB drives inserted by users. Using encrypted format is fine, but requiring people to use a paid-only service in order to backup content that is their own is frustrating and legally questionable. Please put an end to it.

I cant wait til the store is back Im dying to get Under Sieged but anyway I have a few questions:
1) When the store is back will any money that was left in our Wallets still be there?
2)Its been confirmed for quite awhile on the EU blog that welcome back would consist of 2 PS3 games from a list of % and 2 PSP games from a list of 4. But the only thing weve seen on the US blog is “free entertainment downloads, free month of PS+ and free identity theft.
Please tell me these “free entertainment downloads” are the same or similar to what EU is offering… I originally thought that whatever SCEE did SCEA did as well and vice versa. But that theory was proven wrong recently with White Knight Chronicles 2. So now Im kinda worried that SCEE might be getting the better deal with “Welcome Back” so Id love some reassurance that we wont be getting stiffed in the “free entertainment download(s)” department.
This is the kind of response I wanted at the start of this Fiasco. Good Work Jeff,and everyone else at Sony.

For the last two nights i have been expirencing problems with my account.I could sign in perfectly but at the time of 11:00 pm it always says Someone else has logged into my id with the same username.I have changed my password twice and it still does the same thing.Could it be a breach into my account? Or is it just a glitch?Nothing really serious but i just want to make sure no one is reading my personal data or anything.

Great job on this FAQ. I appreciate your efforts.
I have a question. I was unable to access NetFlix on my TV while PSN was down. Every time I tried to access it I kept getting a “You must be logged into Playstation Network to use NetFlix” type of error, and it kept asking me to imput my PSN password, which always failed due to the network being down. I had friends who were able to access it after a backing out of a couple of password prompts, but that never worked for me.
I’m irritated with the external entities that caused the problem, but I’m appreciative of the work you and your compatriots have done to secure the network and get it online again. This is not really that big a deal, but I suspect if I ask Netflix for 3 weeks credit of the $8.00 a month that access to their streaming service costs, they will tell me there was nothing wrong with their service. Is there any kind of compensation or correction being considered for people who have experienced this particular problem?
