Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. So glad PSN is back up! I’m looking forward to taking advantage of PSPlus. Please add some nifty games for the Move there! That way, my wife and I can play together.
It was unfortunate what happened, but it could have been anyone. Fortunately, over that time, I was able to really dive headfirst into my franchise on MLB11: The Show.
I finally got to try out Killzone 3 online… It was terrific and I look forward to fragging many more Helgan and ISA in the very near future my apologies to those here that end up on the receiving end of said fragging. Then again, if yesterday is any indication, most of you won’t have to worry about that too much because I kind of suck (for now).
Thank Kratos that the PSN is up and running again. Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, SOCOM 4, Killzone 3, MLB11: The Show, there’s a lot of online playing to be done… goodbye cruel world, time to head back to Helghan.
Sony, I have heard of several people in my country, Brazil, who have already received the e-mail. Though all of them are non-hotmail users. It seems Hotmail users like me won’t receive the e-mail.
Also, when trying to log into my brazilian PSN account, I keep getting errors and errors, and I’m not alone.
What’s going on? Please give our country some attention!!! We don’t want to be disappointed with you.

Quick question. The PlayStation store is getting a lot more older games. Like Assassins Creed (the original) and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is coming soon. I bought Assassins Creed (the original) on the PlayStation network and to my surprise no trophies. I thought that Sony said all games after January 2009 all PS3 video games had to have trophies? I think we should be forewarned if a game does not have trophies. I know the original disc version of Assassins Creed did not have trophies, but we should have been made aware. I own Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and would like to know if we are getting trophies or not?
Also, for my birthday I want to be in a commercial with Kevin Butler, So make it happen!

The DUKE NUKEM FOREVER Demo is eminent for GearBox’s first access club! Are we going to get it later than Xbox and PC? I had to confirm which platform I wanted by yesterday, I chose PS3. Don’t let me down. I’ve been waiting 14 years for this game.

The way I see it, in this day that we live no network on the internet can guarantee 100% security and it is a risk you have to take as a consumer and as a company to do business on the internet. I think you all did a great job getting it all back online and secured and fans of the Playstation brand will mostly be understanding. Especially now that it is on its way back up.

Sony, the update is well appreciated as mentioned in an earlier response. Everyone at your company should take the time to pat themselves on the back for their efforts. I know this was an extremley difficult, rushed, biggest problem you never wanted to be dealing with, eating at the back of the mind…..which would then only the cease to exist after it was resolved and you had the world off your back type feeling. CONGRATS. LOVE AND RESPECT SONY.

i’d like to say thank you for this amazing update. I do believe that sony has done a very good job. As far as the welcome back package I have to say I’d prefer to get the black ops map packs for free however I doubt that will happen as it would be free from treyarch who is offerring the double xp events.
Guys lets stop asking for free stuff and just enjoy the fact our online gaming is back.

One of the first things I did when I got PSN back in PA was play Black Ops and I noticed a bunch of people in latin america, a few in europe (Germany, France) and like 1 around Sidney, Australia playing before those countries officially got psn back. How is that possible?

There’s one thing that I can’t play online fully as of yet, without the PS Store being up I can’t redeem my Kombat pass for Mortal Kombat, I can only use the online trial which has a few hours left, so hopefully PS Store will be up soon.
As far as freebies go, I’d settle for the TWO RESISTANCE 2 MAP PACKS. That would make me a happy camper :-)
Ok, enough of the “thank you’s” from the oh so obvious Sony employees – I mean really!
The very first question’s answer talks about activated services such as, “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers)…” I assume you specify the “on PS3” part because there is an issue with the service on the computer. I haven’t tried it on my PSP yet so I can’t comment on that system.
I ask this because user kick14 in post #105 stated he was having a problem accessing his premium Qriocity account. I’m guessing his issue could be similar to what I’ve been experiencing:
I can access my premium account on my PS3 perfectly fine, but when I log into Qriocity.com to use my account on my computer it states my account is expired and I need to upgrade to a full/premium account. All subscribe links/account information links take me to a page stating I’m a current premium member (which I am) without links to continue/resign-up for service. Then, when attempting to play music, the service informs me that full features aren’t enabled unless I upgrade my account. Only allowing 30 second preview clips.
I’m hoping its just the bugs in the system being worked out because I enjoy listening to Qriocity on my PC and my PS3. But it does work perfectly on the PS3!

I would like to Thank everyone at Sony for the great job they have done.I cant imagine how difficult it was to get the network beck up after the cyber attack.
Over the last few weeks i have kept up to date with this blog and read many comments from the psn community.

First off, congrats on getting the Network up and running again. Second, hope that the store will be up and running soon, as I currently can’t redeem the Kombat Pass I got with Mortal Kombat, not to mention I got Hyperdimension Neptunia while the Network was down (been searching all over town for that game), which is supposed to have quite a bit of DLC I’d like to get my hands on (definitely the extra characters, the free dungeons… will have to browse the rest of the items that cost $$$).
