Introducing the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the ultra-customizable controller for PlayStation 5

First look at the DualSense Edge wireless controller with customizable controls, changeable stick caps, back buttons, and more.

Today, we are thrilled to unveil the DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5, the first-ever high-performance, ultra-customizable controller developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Designed to give you an edge in gameplay by allowing you to create custom controls, the DualSense Edge wireless controller invites you to craft your own unique gaming experience tailored to your playstyle.

Introducing the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the ultra-customizable controller for PlayStation 5

The DualSense Edge wireless controller features a number of hardware and software-based customization options for creating a completely personalized controller experience, including:

●       Ultra-customizable controls: You can make the DualSense Edge wireless controller uniquely yours by remapping or deactivating specific button inputs and fine-tuning your aim by adjusting stick sensitivity and dead zones (the distance your analog stick moves before it’s recognized in a game). In addition, each trigger is adjustable with options to tailor travel distance and dead zones to your preference. For example, you can manually reduce travel distance of the triggers for faster inputs in competitive FPS games or reduce the dead zone for precise throttle control in racing games.

●       Ability to save multiple control profiles: Once you’ve found your ideal control settings, you can save them to unique profiles and swap between them on the fly. With the DualSense Edge wireless controller, you’ll always have your preferred controls for your games ready to go, whether you’re facing Norse gods and monsters in God of War Ragnarök, or rival players in an online battle royale.

●       On-controller user interface: The dedicated Fn button allows you to easily adjust your setup while staying focused on the in-game action – quickly swap between your pre-set control profiles, adjust game volume and chat balance, and access the controller profile settings menu to set up and test new control iterations while in game.

●       Changeable stick caps and back buttons: Three types of swappable stick caps (standard, high dome, and low dome) help you stay comfortable in game while maintaining grip and stability. The two swappable sets of back buttons (half-dome and lever) can be configured to be any other button input, putting more essential controls at your fingertips.

●       Replaceable stick modules: Play longer with the ability to fully replace each individual stick module on the controller (replacement stick modules will be sold separately).

●       Built-in DualSense wireless controller features: The DualSense Edge wireless controller retains the signature comfort and immersive experience of the DualSense wireless controller when playing supported games, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone, motion controls, and more.

In addition to the included stick caps and back button sets, the DualSense Edge wireless controller comes with a USB Type-C braided cable, which uses a connector housing to lock into the controller so it’s much less likely to slip out at a crucial moment. The included carrying case, which keeps your DualSense Edge wireless controller and components together and organized in one place, allows you to charge the controller via USB connection while it’s stored in the case.

Daisuke Kurihara, Art Director, led the controller’s design process and shares a few insights on how it was created:

“The opportunity to create the DualSense Edge wireless controller was a dream come true for our team. We wanted to build on the legacy of iconic PlayStation controllers by creating a controller that empowers players to experiment and personalize elements based on their own unique playstyle – whether they are a competitive gamer or someone who just enjoys having more options to customize their play. The DualSense Edge wireless controller also features a number of thoughtful design touches that we hope players will enjoy, including a distinct DualSense controller-inspired black-and-white color scheme and a unique PlayStation Shapes pattern on the touch pad and trigger surfaces.

“We are thankful to the many gamers, professional esports players, and developers who helped provide feedback on the controller’s design.”

Daisuke Kurihara, Art Director

In the months ahead, we look forward to sharing more details about the DualSense Edge wireless controller, including launch timing, and can’t wait to see how the PS5 community unlocks the full potential of the controller’s customization options.

  • Might be a stupid question but does it still have the docking mount on the bottom for things like the charging stand?

  • How do i get it

  • Do you see that edge like the way the touch pad curves and the white part makes a very sharp shape

  • Sony should realise dualsense pro in different colours like red & blue aswell sony do see wot fans say & want & occasionally do it the ps5 design is to remove the face plates I board of my white ones & don’t like the colours sony realise now a official spiderman miles rachet gt7 ragnarok plates the ps5 Community would buy these facts don’t no why sony not doing this they can make these & sell throw playstation direct

  • Can we have a smaller controller option, please? The DualSense is uncomfortable to use for people with smaller hands/hypermobility.

  • sound real promising. the improvements are completely based on experiences. thank you guys! 👍

  • You have problem any game or report company game software and or console or app or report to game company / Sony. And write In twitter And listen your opinion feed back ps4/ps5 and gave them time PlayStation see problem

  • You have problem any game or report company game software and or console or app or report to game company / Sony. And write In twitter And listen your opinion feed back ps4/ps5 and gave them time and PlayStation see your problem

  • Will there be other colours or just the white and black?

  • Are those trigger stops on the back of the controller?

  • Finally ! A controller with back button… Why Sony didn’t released a back button attachment accessorie for the Dual Sense like they did for the DS4 ? 🤔 To be honnest I may take this controller ONLY for the back buttons that should have been already there in the first place on the Dual Sense… This should be mandatory on any controller now. On many games to run you have to press foward then L3. That is absolutely terrible because a pain to execute and surely why sticks have problems sooner or later…

  • It reminds me a lot of the Astro C40 TR which I had and loved for the PS4.

  • Let’s hope Sony release this without further delays. I can’t wait…
As much as I liked a new PS5 controller, an absence of backpaddles was a total downgrade for PS5 DualSence compared to DualShock 4 with Backbuttons Attachement. We should get backpaddles for PS5 a long time ago.

I actually played some games on my PS5 in their PS4 versions to be able to use DS4 and backbuttons. Which is kind of sad.

  • Ok so when does this drop Sony ? & don’t ya think we should have a better ps5 first or actually one that has better wired internet settings or faster and more storage

  • Will the DualSense charging stations still work with this controller?

  • Can I use the charging station for dualsense with the edge

  • Been waiting for this. Need 2 more buttons, and I hope it will come overclocked compared to the original dualsense.

  • I love the DualShock4 and never use my Dual Sense if I can.
I have been waiting on Sony to release a Dual Sense Slim which would have:
    + D-pad same quality as DS4
+ Slimmer handles and better grip on the back (as DS4)
+ No haptic motors but only rumble (I always shut haptic off)
+ Larger battery instead of haptic motor
+ Nice colours such as Black, DS4 Midnight Blue and DS4 Charcoal Grey

  • How about a price point, and interchangable joysticks when they start to drift. its 75 for a standard controller but maybe 20 for the sticks most likely…

  • Its about time. We’ve been waiting for an official elite level controller for Playstation for years. I dont know how it took this long. Thank You.

  • Added buttons, a braided cord, and carrying case…I definitely like it, but knowing they will charge an extra $100 on the regular price of a Dualsense, which is $75 by itself is going to be nonsense.

  • What about the battery life? Will be there any updates on this? Because the controller drains the battery very quickly… is quite annoying the fact the battery doesn’t last at least more than 4 hours of play

  • All I need to know is how much and when will it be released.

  • THE determining factor in whether or not I buy it: does it come in black?

  • When can we buy it?

  • Finally!! i’m getting one day 1

  • How much is gonna cost for the new controller And where can I buy it

  • This is awesome news. I will be able to play more optimal with gyro aiming in Fortnite and other games that sopport gyro aiming plus flick stick with the extra mappable buttons. I hope the price isnt to outrageous, but knowing Sony it will be.

  • Scuff already there , but thanks 👍

  • I am on my third controller because of stick-drift now

    • Same here. I’ve had PS5 since launch and I’m on my third controller. Drift happens after only 400 hours.

Do the math and you’ll see it’s even worse than the Joy Cons if you consider the DualSense costs 2.5x more. I used to defend Sony but now I’m pissed because the DS drift combined with this announcement is just indefensible.

  • Thanks for making the analog sticks replaceable! That’s very kind…

But wait…What about the DualSense analog stick drift that happens after 400 hours of use? How about you fix the current controller before releasing a new one. I’m on my THIRD controller and I’ve had the PS5 since launch. That’s actually worse than Nintendo’s Joy Con drift, because the DualSense costs 2.5x more than the Joy Cons.

  • Very nice controller!

Any plans to have a custom God of War Ragnarok PS5?

  • Here’s what I’m able to do with 4 extra buttons -keep both thumbs on the analog sticks at all times while pressing the action or shoulder buttons

Translating into an edge over the competition as I can both move and look at the same time while preforming a dodge rolling action and still attacking in any 3rd person action game or doing something else like starting in a jump then reloading before I land ready to go – while I’m still in the air I can spin around the look stick so I’m facing backwards if someone else is chasing me

All possible if you have F-o-u-R extra buttons and not a paltry 2 buttons

Hopefully Sony won’t let me down and I can simply install my own custom controls to gain the edge

  • In my dreams this had 2 more extra buttons and the ability to make my sticks off-set.

  • I’m still hoping that I can upload my own custom controls to the PlayStation store for Sony to sell user generated content in a section of the PlayStation store where you can both buy and install your own fully customized layouts like you already designed it but with no work to do so

This is what’s next for gaming user generated content by gamers for gamers
    available on the PlayStation store

  • I’m gonna need one of these. Hopefully multiple colour options than just the white for us who purchased new side panels.

  • This is awesome, my only critic is: only 2 backpaddles? Learn from the razer wolverine: 4 paddles and 2 extra bumpers. I have a ps4 controller customized with 4 backbuttons, one extra bumper click-like and a mousewheel. Impossible to play Fortnite without those.

  • Wow skeetlejuice sony really messed up by not hiring you to design the edge controller. I dont understand why they didn’t, you obviously designed the elite controller for Xbox. What a wasted opportunity for Sony. And here I thought you were just a Karen trolling the blogs. I feel like a dumb dumb thinking the edge looks like a decent piece of hardware. Thanks for showing me the light skeetle. Who knew the world’s greatest opinion maker resides right here in the ps blogs👏👏👏

  • I was waiting for official pro controller for a long time. I’m so glad it’s finally coming!

I really wish for software package to allow the user to create specific game profiles and automatically switch them. For example when I start Returnal my controls would switch to my Returnal profile and when I start Rollerdrome the controls would automatically switch to my Rollerdrome profile with possibly to create and store profile for every game without the need to delete old profiles. I really wish it would be like that. Because going into accessibility and changing up the controls every time I switch games is a huge chore right now for me.

Also it would be super useful if there were an option for controller layout to switch to default when not in game. Sometimes I have to remap my cross and circle buttons and that really messes up PS5 menu navigation.

Also I really wish that the touchpad and it’s sides would be among remappable buttons. It’s a feature that accessibility controller remap system lacks. If touchpad becomes remappable it could be used as another button for people who use the claw grip.

Really really disappointed that there’s only 2 back buttons :c

  • How much

  • DualSense EDGE will be way more expensive so I got the Leverback paddle attachment for 20 bucks

  • Hopefully an unboxing trailer soon. Curious how they handle the case/cable and the price of course. My only gripe is that they didn’t upgrade the D-pad.

  • How about fixing the drift problems in your previous controllers, or offer a credit for a updated controller with y’all trash original models. You big money corporations don’t care about the customers only the money.

  • So no word on battery? I feel that battery is the most egregious feature in the current generation. My Switch Pro Controller is light years ahead in terms of play sessions, lasting weeks before a charge, whereas my PS5 controller barely lasts 3/4 days. If this controller had a better battery, it would be a day-1 purchase from me.

  • Will it come in black? I need it to be in black please?

  • I hope we get some color variations from launch day. I don’t want to have a third white controller ;)

  • I am very happy and proud that the gaming industry which basically is you guys sony interactive entertainment has finally come up with something more upgraded and advanced as you continue to evolve the generations of gaming platforms and controllers. this is very fantastic if it were possible. I would have been gladly delighted to ask if it would be okay for a teardown of the new, upgraded, evolved and detailed and updated controller DualSense Edge Wireless Controllers.I would Kindly like to see a teardown of all the components in the DualSense Edge Wireless Controller as me being a PlayStation player and always getting information about the optimisational features that are invented at some periods and a certain time and also about its launch timing and release date?

  • Nice, I can’t wait to get one.

  • How do i get one
