Introducing the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the ultra-customizable controller for PlayStation 5

First look at the DualSense Edge wireless controller with customizable controls, changeable stick caps, back buttons, and more.

Today, we are thrilled to unveil the DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5, the first-ever high-performance, ultra-customizable controller developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Designed to give you an edge in gameplay by allowing you to create custom controls, the DualSense Edge wireless controller invites you to craft your own unique gaming experience tailored to your playstyle.

Introducing the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the ultra-customizable controller for PlayStation 5

The DualSense Edge wireless controller features a number of hardware and software-based customization options for creating a completely personalized controller experience, including:

●       Ultra-customizable controls: You can make the DualSense Edge wireless controller uniquely yours by remapping or deactivating specific button inputs and fine-tuning your aim by adjusting stick sensitivity and dead zones (the distance your analog stick moves before it’s recognized in a game). In addition, each trigger is adjustable with options to tailor travel distance and dead zones to your preference. For example, you can manually reduce travel distance of the triggers for faster inputs in competitive FPS games or reduce the dead zone for precise throttle control in racing games.

●       Ability to save multiple control profiles: Once you’ve found your ideal control settings, you can save them to unique profiles and swap between them on the fly. With the DualSense Edge wireless controller, you’ll always have your preferred controls for your games ready to go, whether you’re facing Norse gods and monsters in God of War Ragnarök, or rival players in an online battle royale.

●       On-controller user interface: The dedicated Fn button allows you to easily adjust your setup while staying focused on the in-game action – quickly swap between your pre-set control profiles, adjust game volume and chat balance, and access the controller profile settings menu to set up and test new control iterations while in game.

●       Changeable stick caps and back buttons: Three types of swappable stick caps (standard, high dome, and low dome) help you stay comfortable in game while maintaining grip and stability. The two swappable sets of back buttons (half-dome and lever) can be configured to be any other button input, putting more essential controls at your fingertips.

●       Replaceable stick modules: Play longer with the ability to fully replace each individual stick module on the controller (replacement stick modules will be sold separately).

●       Built-in DualSense wireless controller features: The DualSense Edge wireless controller retains the signature comfort and immersive experience of the DualSense wireless controller when playing supported games, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone, motion controls, and more.

In addition to the included stick caps and back button sets, the DualSense Edge wireless controller comes with a USB Type-C braided cable, which uses a connector housing to lock into the controller so it’s much less likely to slip out at a crucial moment. The included carrying case, which keeps your DualSense Edge wireless controller and components together and organized in one place, allows you to charge the controller via USB connection while it’s stored in the case.

Daisuke Kurihara, Art Director, led the controller’s design process and shares a few insights on how it was created:

“The opportunity to create the DualSense Edge wireless controller was a dream come true for our team. We wanted to build on the legacy of iconic PlayStation controllers by creating a controller that empowers players to experiment and personalize elements based on their own unique playstyle – whether they are a competitive gamer or someone who just enjoys having more options to customize their play. The DualSense Edge wireless controller also features a number of thoughtful design touches that we hope players will enjoy, including a distinct DualSense controller-inspired black-and-white color scheme and a unique PlayStation Shapes pattern on the touch pad and trigger surfaces.

“We are thankful to the many gamers, professional esports players, and developers who helped provide feedback on the controller’s design.”

Daisuke Kurihara, Art Director

In the months ahead, we look forward to sharing more details about the DualSense Edge wireless controller, including launch timing, and can’t wait to see how the PS5 community unlocks the full potential of the controller’s customization options.

  • Skeetlejuice You are such a sad bit of a man. You really felt the need to Say all of that, on a ps blog…😂 sad

    • Guess we can say what we like and when we like sad or happy everyone has the right to say something 👍

  • Hope we get color options early and the paddle placement might be a little wider. That was my only issue with extreme rate.

  • Would i be able to take off the extra stuff and make it like a (NORMAL) ps4 controller for my ps5?

  • just another controller cashgrab ud have to be a right nut job to get one of these ^^^^^

    • I like the ps4 controller better than the ps5 controller, and they basically just made the ps4 controller for the ps5 thats literally what the new controller is (a recycled idea).

  • dudes like skeetlejuice got nothin better to do than write multiple paragraphs defending Xbox on a PS Blog post lmao

  • So… hum… this time you’re using hall sensors on analog sticks… right? RIGHT??? Nobudy bares analog drifting anymore…

  • Two back buttons instead of four is a terrible oversight. The SCUF PS5 controller has four paddles and feels exceptionally good to use.

  • Does it come in black?

  • IT HAS 4 BUTTONS NOT 2,read before commenting

  • I really wish this had a user-replaceable battery.

  • what it do

  • Sounds really cool. Can’t wait to preorder. Hopefully this finally fixes the stick drift issue (have 3 controller that have it). Expecting this to be $100-$150.

One thing for PlayStation, I hope when this launches, it comes in all the dualsense colors already available for day one (especially black).

Also, I don’t understand why PlayStation doesn’t just release a controller software update to adjust/fix deadzone on the current dualsense controllers.

  • Are there going to be different colors or just white?

  • okay sony dualsense edge look good but it a no not dropping at least 200 on a controller but give me option to buy ragnarok ps5 plates day 1 buy sony

  • Wow this is a surprise. Don’t let us down Sony I am big believer of Sony making great products sadly to say, the money I put into ps5 controllers shouldn’t happen. So please, really hope this new controller will last longer then few years, also hope it isn’t over priced but I know good quality is not cheap and really hoping that it works with out breaking down like so many before. Please Sony don’t let your customers down.

  • When does the DaulSense Edge controller is released ?

  • Can’t wait to get my hands on that one! 🎮 😎

  • Of you guys have considerable color options this will not just be a great product. It will be phenomenal. Can’t wait.

  • Just wanted durable analog sticks. All the other stuff is okay I guess but I just bought a 75 dollar controller a week ago and the left stick is starting to creak, this hasn’t happened for me since the six axis controllers for PS3… Now this is coming out and what? I’m supposed to buy another expensive controller so maybe it won’t feel cheap? This is just depressing lol

  • No mention of price. Curious. I think they are testing the waters with premium pricing to gauge when people react to the price reveal of the PSVR 2. For this controller, I’m fully expecting a price point of $149.99.

  • Cant wait

  • What’s the release date? 🤔
    Looks awesome btw

  • Please Sony make this at least somewhat compatible to the ps4. You wont even give the ps4 the last of us remake. I would honestly play without ray tracing if it meant being able to play

  • I love capitalism cant wait to spend all my disposable income on this ❤️

  • Looks interesting, but want to see more colors, and hopefully not a year after releasing the first one my setup is all black. Also would have loved to see the expected battery life, is it worse??

  • Duel Sense is a Goat Controller

  • AWESOME CONTROLLER!!
and now… when is coming a PS5 PRO? and WHEN a next gen PS HANDHELD?

  • Looking forward to owning a Dualsense “Edge” controller soon! 😃

  • Just curious if the ps5 will have a stick mapping interface like the Xbox one or series x/s within the console,PlayStation had a ps4 vantage elite type controller that they just abandoned, and discontinued about a year later, leaving the consumer in the lurch, but the button mapping interface was never incorporated in the ps4 console,I would be interested if the ps5 had a stick mapping interface

  • New controller looks pretty amazing. If they have solved the stick drift issue I will be so hyped.

  • Firstly it’s about time Sony stepped up though without 4 that’s Four extra back buttons it’s just coming up two buttons short of the standard pro controller

I’m ready for the edge and expect 4 extra buttons because only having two extra buttons on the back is a joke

Also I’ve already gone beyond plus ultra with my own custom controls that require four extra buttons

I will except Sony to allow you to upload your own custom controls to the PlayStation store so Sony can sell user generated content and then both Sony and the designers of whatever layouts will make money for each download

Your psn name would be next to the layouts you have designed and named for the purpose of having Sony selling your custom controller layout (s).

Sony can have a hosting fee for putting the content on the PlayStation store and the designers would be paid through their checking account per download at the end of the month every month the more popular the controls the more money everyone will get

The point of the custom controls is so gamers who are interested in buying the edge but not in customizing it can easily do both buy the edge and pay $15 a controller scheme to like digital games permanently have a right to use without owning the rights to the content

Here’s hoping Sony doesn’t fall flat off the edge

  • Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!! Victory!!!

  • Should have the original ps logo on it

  • Day one for me. Please offer the DualSense Edge in all black!

  • Is it only two back buttons just to “be different” from Xbox’s elite controller? Why not have it like the elite with 4 removable back paddles? 4 buttons/paddles are definitely possible as third parties are doing it. 2 back button are just not adequate for most games.

  • Finally a solution to the drift! Thank you 😍

  • Only two back buttons? Big oof. I have a mod I got from Amazon that added four back buttons to my dualsense. Can’t go back to anything less than four

  • How about a new handheld too.

  • So did anyone notice the controller has paddles to the outside of the sticks (top of the controller) from the one picture?

  • Do the sticks use Potentiometers or Magnets to read input?

  • Sten, I was born with light case of Cerebral palsy, partly paralyzed on the right side and it’s aggravating and frustrating for me for jumping and sliding. It be great for handicap people Can’t wait for this controller to come out. I been waiting for years! I’m going to buy one. I do have a controller, I hope Sony, Playstation won’t gets mad me I use from a company call Aim controller pretty good controller for the Playstation 5 But want one from Sony, that I like or love like the Aim controller while one charging I play with other one. I probably buy 2!! if it’s as good as I hope. I have Xbox series x too with a elite controller. Hope this is helpful.

  • This looks super cool!

  • Finally, I’ve been waiting for a First Party Dualsense Pro Controller from you all. My anticipation for this is through the roof!

  • Only the price can deter me from getting one. Let’s wait and see.

  • I’m super hyped for this controller it’s going to be so good. The extra grips and the small PlayStation textures on the touchpad is a neat feature. The extra customisable buttons and profiles which you can save are awesome. This controller is like a big upgrade to the base PS5 controller. If it’s not like £200 I’m going to try and get one. Good job Sony.

  • Sony PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Make this in BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Replaceable analog stick modules is huge news. A controller for the life of the console. Very impressed. I’ll be ordering two 😍

  • Finally I been waiting for a official for years!!!

  • Absolutely awesome. Loved waking up to this announcement! Hopefully in time for holidays at least. Plan on getting it day 1!

  • This is great and all, but will it come in a larger hand version?
