UPDATE: Pre-order Horizon Forbidden West now: Collector’s and Digital Deluxe Editions detailed

All pre-order details for this awe-inspiring continuation of Aloy’s journey, coming February 18 2022.

Thursday was to be a celebration of Horizon Forbidden West and the amazing team at Guerrilla working to deliver it on February 18, 2022. However, it’s abundantly clear that the offerings we confirmed in our pre-order kickoff missed the mark.

Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

I also want to confirm today that moving forward, PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 & PS5)–both digital and physical*–will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 & PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

— Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment

*To upgrade an eligible PS4 game on disc to the digital PS5 version, you will need a PS5 console with a disc drive. PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles on February 18, 2022! We were ecstatic to finally be able to share the release date with you last week during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, and to see everyone’s reactions to our news.

Pre-orders for the game are available now across the globe, so we wanted to share more details about the various editions that you can get your hands on.

UPDATE: Pre-order Horizon Forbidden West now: Collector’s and Digital Deluxe Editions detailed

  • The preorder links don’t seem to go anywhere.

    • Yes there is only the Delux edition online to buy

    • “For players looking to have access to both the PS4 & PS5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West, please purchase the Digital Deluxe, Collector’s, or Regalla Editions. Dual entitlement does not apply to the standard and Special Editions.”

So if you buy a physical PS4 version, you will not get a free digital PS5 version!

    • @ZanFear
That was prior to the update.

    • Honestly PlayStation.
I expect more and better from you.
I want you to be the pro consumer company that I’ve known you to be in the past.
Stunts like that is just a step back.

      Yet it’s clearly not enough.
Why can’t you offer both a Physical Copy and a Digital Copy of the game for the Collector’s Edition and the Regalia Edition?

For the price we are paying, we should have both versions of the game.

You’ve talked also about “dual entitlement”.
Well instead of a PS4 and PS5 copy for 10$ more than a PS5 copy, why not ask 10$ more to get both a Physical Copy and a Digital Copy.

If I buy a game full price, I’m not going to pay full price again for the same game I already own, never did. I do like to own both physical copy and digital. 10$ seems fair.

If you don’t want to do a dual digital/physical copy, then how about a free license that you can’t download the game from the PS Store, but allows your main PS5 to run the game without the disc inside.
Changing games from the drive is a hassle and allowing this also can act as a game share like your online games already does.

If you were to delete the game, you need the physical game to reinstall it, unlock a digital purchase.

Games can run with the disc inside without that license, it’s just more of a convenience factor.

    • $10 is almost there, Jimmy. IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE FREE.

    • @CommandingTiger

Well no duh, look at the date and time of my post. Good on Sony to reverse their handling of this; however, I don’t recall an initial announcement detailing that free updates would ONLY be in the PS5 launch window.

  • I’m confused, you’re selling the collectors editions with the steelbook but with no disc or am I reading it wrong?

    • Correct. It’s dumb.

    • Yeah, just a download code. WEIRD.

    • the reason they would have to make a ps4 and ps5 version of these and that’s a lot. so they decided to keep the game out. so they don’t have to make 2 different version for ps4 and ps5.

    • yeah PC collectors editions are like that no disc just code sometimes not even code game just goes into your account

    • This is wrong, hey let me spend all this money so I can put everything on my display case, except the actual disk, this is such a cheap move, specially when charging $260 for a game, come on Guerrilla

    • As someone who only buys games digitally AND loves SteelBook cases, I like the idea!

I’d pre-order one if it were just the SteelBook case and digital game. I have no desire for all the extra knick knacks.

    • What are you supposed to put in the steelbook? It’s like buying a special edition car without a steering wheel.
I understand it’s a cost saving thing so they don’t have to make a separate bundel for PS4 and PS5, but it’s just dumb.
It would be better to include a disc with the steelbook and perhaps make the statue a separate item that people can buy, not tied to the game bundle.

    • It’s true, unbelievable really, it must be to accommodate the PS5 digital edition owners. Kind of takes away from the fact that it is a “Collectors Edition” you can’t beat a disk less case in your “complete edition” 😂

    • Hahahahahahahaha haha

    • The funny thing is that they do have separate PS4 and PS5 versions with disc and steelbook. People are rightfully upset that the expensive CE sets are digital only and includes a steelbook to rub in the missing disc. If they had made the PS4 disc upgradeable to PS5, one size would have fit all. Being consumer friendly, though, that’s not in Sony’s DNA.

    • Yea the game is digital with the collectors editions which is lame they should give you a disc version like horizon zero dawn was what they should offer a disc and digital collectors edtion for people that a digital ps5 or a disc ps5

    • Not reading it wrong. An odd choice on their part. They should take a page from Bungie’s book and offer physical collector’s editions without the game. Bungie’s most recent expansion as well as the new one coming out in February offered the physical bundles that came with discs but also offered a version without the game at a lower price. You could then buy the digital version where ever you choose and still pay the same price as if you bought the disc version.
I buy mostly digital now on games I will be playing on multiple consoles so that option works great.

  • Links don’t work for pre-order 🙄

  • Are the special, collectors and regalla edition not available in europe? Don’t see those editions for sale on the playstation store.

  • Where’s the pre orders for the special editions? Only the standard versions are up.

  • So the more expensive editions doesn’t even hace a disc, even when there is a steelbook. You kidding right? That’s how you lose a sale of that edition, at least from me.

Seriously who’s dumb idea was this to create these ultimate editions of the game and not even include a disc. The Digital Code is not preferred. Betting the code is tied to the dlc too so you can separate them.

This is a slap in the face to physical game collectors. It’s a CE, it should have CE content, therefore it should include a disc to go with its steel book. Now I have to double dip if I want to fix what some marketing genius couldn’t figure out. This is shameful behavior on Sony’s part. You continue to turn Horizon’s second outing into a circus. DO NOT DO THIS!

    • Don’t buy. Only way they’ll learn.

    • Order Cancelled. Special Edition instead *sigh* would have looked really sweet next to my other Horizon CE for Horizon 1.

    • Vote with your wallet.

    • 💯 agree.
Not having the disc included in a physical edition is silly.

    • I completely agree with you
If we want to take this game to a far place we have to carry the hole PS5 with us?? So dumb! The console is huge!

    • They have Digital Only Consoles, if you include a disk in the collectors edition you exclude those buyers (Like Myself) from getting all the goodies. I applaud this as I haven’t been able to buy the collectors editions forever because I don’t want a damn disk. PC Collectors Editions and Other Platforms have been doing this for a while now as well.

    • Yep mad dumb, they’re really pushing digital only crap.

    • I have a digital only PS5 and so do a lot of other people. I really don’t have the want or need for a disk version. In contrast everyone can use the digital only edition.

    • I got the CE for the physical goods but I’m fine with the digital game version for now. My wife will be playing it too on another console so the digital works out better for me, but I still want a physical copy so I’ll probably wait until GameStop marks it down significantly and then grab a copy when that time comes.

  • Where are the Collectors Editions? The link only leads to the digital editions.

  • Whoever came up with the dumb idea to not include the disc in the $200+ Collector’s Editions should be fired. That makes me not want to get them. Also, it’s a really poor choice to not offer a PS4 to PS5 upgrade path when people still can’t get a PS5 really. There should be a $10 upgrade option for those people. C’mon Sony

    • Riiight.

    • My thoughts exactly. It’s moronic to sell two Collector’s Edition WITH an empty steelbook case. If I want to buy a disc, that’s at least $60 and it doesn’t even get me both PS4 and PS5 versions.

Also, no upgrade path for those who buy Standard editions.

Needlessly confusing and anti-consumer. This is the example that Sony sets for all game companies making PS games: if you’re not confusing your customers and squeezing them dry of every penny they have, you’re not doing it right.

  • Why wouldn’t you add the disc to Collector’s Edition? Stupid to have just the case. No buy from me.

  • horizon forbidden west Regalla Edition not available in cananda wtf

  • Does the special edtion include the 2 weapons or no

    • I was able to preorder the Regalla edition, but come on Sony!!

You guys have to see how freaking stupid this decision is?

You have us paying $270 dollars for this edition and we only get a voucher for the game and not the physical disc?

If I wanted digital, I would’ve just preordered the digital version.

Can you guys please address this issue? This is freaking ridiculous.

    • It isn’t an issue, there are Digital Only PS5’s and for once they aren’t excluding us digital buyers from getting all the CE Goodies, literally bought the Regalla Edition because it was Digital Only, I don’t care for disks anymore and for the first time in a long time I can finally buy one without being forced into using an annoying disk.

  • What a downer…no disc for the collector’s or regalla editions? That makes no sense.

    • PC collector’s edition have been suffering from that since forever :'(

    • @warriorjr89

I can understand that for PC.

Most people on PC don’t use discs anymore, especially not BluRay ones and with games so big you’d have to pack like 10 or something DVDs there. Hell, a lot of PC cases don’t even have space for it anymore.

But on consoles, where the most popular one is with the reader it’s totally dumb. Sadly, probably all future cross gens from Sony will release like this so prepare for God Of War to not have a disc as well.

    • You can’t exclude your digital only console owners.

    • @Critical_Lag yeah i understand it too,
but also remember that now on PS5 there is a digital edition so what will someone with a digital edition do with a disc from a collector’s.
I guess they removed it to give the digital edition owners the option to get that version too; And the PS5 disc edition can also get it.

I can’t think of any other reason

  • horizon forbidden west Regalla Edition not in canada why

  • No physical game in a collector edition is JOKE!

I get it it’s easier since you don’t have to sell a PS4 and a PS5 version of the game for the CE and the Regalla Edition, but you can do it, you’re freaking SONY after all! Collectors like myself want the full package, there’s no way on earth I’m going to pay $259 for the Regalla edition if a physical copy of the game isn’t included!

Also, why even bother with a steelbook if there’s no disk? It’s a complete heresy…

Please reverse course and give your customers that choice!

  • Not buying the Collector’s or Regalla edition because it lacks physical disc. Which idiot made this decision?

  • horizon forbidden west Regalla Edition no disk and nowhere to be found to pre-order in canada wtf

  • No disc in Collector’s or Regalia? Then you can keep them, I’m not buying anything that way. Creating two amazing editions without physical copy is totally dumb.

  • any word on the CE or Regalla editions? haven’t seen them up? Did they sell out via bots?

  • i really hope, that CE will available by my local retailer

  • I’m not really a pre-order/special edition kind of gamer, but this all looks REALLY cool. That new artwork though? *chef’s kiss

  • I have been curious how Playstation and other game publishers would handle physical collector’s editions this gen, since this gen we have consoles with no disc drive. Well this answers that question, at least for collector’s editions from Playstation. Publishers do NOT want to have 2 or more different SKUs (versions) for the same exact item, for various reasons, so they have to go with the option that guarantees everyone can obtain and play the game on ALL consoles, which is to go with the digital copy. They are including the steelbook for those who want to now or later get a physical copy and then store it in the steelbook.

I myself love the approach they are taking, and I understand why they are doing it.

Remember those collector’s editions a few years ago that didn’t come with the game at all? Those other publishers were doing that for a very similar reason, but Sony’s solution here is much better IMHO, and although it does suck if you absolutely want a physical copy of the game, it is really IMHO the only viable solution here.

    • Or you can do it the Ubisoft way, give the PS4 version with a free upgrade, that way you have the disc and best version possible, depending on your system.

    • I am only speaking above about the collector’s editions and why no disc is included. The PS4 to PS5 upgrade stuff is a whole other discussion.

I would think by Feb 2022 most people who are buying HFW on launch day will know what system they will be playing on. And *hopefully* PS5 console availability will continue to improve so that most everyone who wants a PS5 has one. I do think though that Sony should make it so that all versions of HFW have a free upgrade path from PS4 to PS5.

    • Well, there are way more PS5 disc consoles than digital. Also, most people that care for the collector’s editions are the ones that care for physical games.

    • Last gen has plenty of situations wher ethey pack the game in separate from teh edition and you can choose. Ubisoft has been doing it for years. Make the CE, then offer the Code, Disc, and Platform of the orders choice and just pack into the shipping box. Not that difficult. You can even format the guts of the box to allow the user to pack the game back into the box if they went physical.

This is a very stupid move on sony’s part. Honestly for the price we’re paying for these editions including task, it isn’t a whole lot to ask to include both digital and disc in box at least for the ragalla edition. Damn well near 300 dollars. Even square enix didn’t screw me this hard with the soldier first class edition for FF7 Remake.

    • @EpicForce

That way isn’t good either. I have no interest in a PS4 edition of the game. I have a PS5. I literally rebuy games on disc if they have PS5 versions of them like Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. I don’t want to be too dependent on sony’s servers for anything. Ya I like digital copies, but when I want to play a game I don’t want to have to wait for a download or hope my internet connection doesn’t go out or worse.

    • I’m glad, disks annoy the hell outta me and all last gen I wouldn’t buy collectors editions because it only came with a damn disk. That drive sounded like a jet engine, glad I can get a collectors edition with a digital copy.

  • This pre-order launch is a joke.

No disc with Collector’s Editions? No Physical Copies in North America? Links for Special Edition just take you to the PS Store for the regular Edition. WTF is happening?

  • Scummy Sony. No free upgrade from ps4 to ps5? You should be encouring people to stay in the playstation ecosystem, not punishing your dedicated fans in order to make a quick buck. Also these deluxe editions are increadibly half assed. Just awful.

  • horizon forbidden west Regalla Edition no disk and nowhere to be found to pre-order in canada wtf no amazon canada or other places

  • horizon forbidden west at least it comes out one day after my birthday hahaha

  • The links for the collector edition and Regalla seems wrong. They links to the standard and deluxe edition only.

  • Welp, got really excited to see the Collector’s Edition, and even more for the Regalla Edition, but after realising there’s no physical disk to go with the steelbook, will pass on this game entirely… Such a shame, since the game seems amazing! But this kind of decisions shouldn’t go without repercussions… The disk is a very important part of a CE for a collector, Guerrilla!!!

    • You will not be passing on the game entirely. Lol

    • Bahahaha dont be so damn childish.
We all know you no one is dumb enough to pass on the game entirely just because that edition doesnt come with a disk hahaha.

And without repercussions? Yeah…I’m sure they will be so disappointed by loosing your 1 single sale hahahaha.

It will be produced in limited quantities and i promise with or without you its going to sell out and sell fast.

You make it sound like you and you alone are determining if the game sells or not bhahahahahaha

    • Earth – you “loose” all credibility when you don’t know how to spell

    • @ earth_inheritor – Wow how narrow minded can you be?…he’s voting with his wallet and what are you doing exactly by protecting such anti-consumer practice?…hope you had fun in your lil moment of fantasy superiority.Doesn’t matter if it’s 1 people only not buying at least he’s doing something, unfortunately there will always be the numb skulls that will pay no matter the anti-consumer practice they’re imposing.

  • Would’ve been great if you guys made a ps5 hfw edition

    • Also it won’t let me go to the special edition for some reason, just goes to your page to where I have to pre order it digitally

  • horizon forbidden west Regalla Edition no link for canada???????? NO DISK WTF!!!!!!!!!

  • Wake me up when we’ve fully migrated to current-gen.

  • It would be easier if you guys actually had the items available for purchase.

  • How difficult is it to offer an upgrade path for those that go with the PS4?

Why make the pricing for your titles so confusing? To get PS4 & PS5 versions you have to know to pre-order the deluxe versions. How did PlayStation go from offering cross buy during the transition from PS3 to PS4 to what you’re doing now?

I remember having access to PS4 versions of games that I wasn’t expecting….they were there read for me to download but now when everything can be supported (I would imagine more easily), you’re charging for everything? Doesn’t make sense.

  • You Sony, Any Idea when these links will actually work? I’d like to see what your asking price is for the Collector & Regalla Editions?

  • Well thanks for convincing me not to preorder and buy it at a sale later!
Stop charging extra for the ps5 version! Ghost of tsushima ps5 upgrade is underwhelming at best, didn’t buy that either.

  • What? No disc? In a collectors edition. So wait what’s the steel book case for? Just for show? this makes no damn sense. I’ll guess ill get a regular copy from amazon.

  • So, let me get this right.. the Special edition is the same price as the digital deluxe edition which is 90$ but the Special edition have NO PRE ORDER CONTENTS ?!!! Except for the Nora legacy and spear of course, that’s some bs Sony very disappointed by this choice. I hope this will be added by weeks to come. No pre order for me 🙅🏻‍♂️

  • Standard edition doesn’t have Photo Mode?

  • This is stupid, no disc and not available in Canada?

  • £59.99 for PS4 and £69.99 for PS5 so a resolution and FPS boost is worth £10. Sony you’ve just lost a valued customer please go back and check my timestamps on my trophies and you’ll see I’ve always bought Sony first party games day 1 not anymore I’ll wait till they are PlayStation Hits for £14.99

  • What is the price of CE in Europe ? Oh sorry, I forgot Europe doesn’t exist for Sony.

  • No disc in the two collector editions????? Hello? Somebody made a really stupid decision here. I bought the CE of Zero Dawn before anybody knew the game would be good, but you’ve lost me here. What a damn joke.

    • That’s awesome! I passed on the HZD CE when it was available after launch on Amazon and regretted it ever since. Now I’m gonna pass on the HFW CE but with absolutely no regrets.

  • horizon forbidden west Regalla Edition for us canada please

  • Am I the only one who wanted some nice Aloy statue and instead of that we get a big tremortusk statue and tiny tiny Aloy statue? I am extremely disappointed right now. And whose idea was not to include a disk into the collector edition?

    • Agreed, while the tremortusk definitely holds the spotlight right now, I doubt it will captivate me like it does Aloy even now almost five years from the release of the original game.

    • I am a bit confused by this CE. The first game was fantastic and they offered up the thunder jaw separate. Wish I could still order that honestly, I like the Thunderjaw design more than the tremortusk.

    • The person who decided that they shouldn’t exclude Digital Console Owners from being able to buy the CE’s

    • @ NexusFX – An idiot then…as if people who bought the digital only PS5 care for CEs LMAO,what kind of line of thinking are you in?…I hate to say the obvious but people who went digital only with PS5 DON’T CARE about physical stuff…Jesus.

  • Luckily, I’m not of the mindset that I necessarily NEED the disk, but yeah for how much is being charged essentially for an extra few figurines and physical art book/prints, you’d think they could at least toss in a disk with the Regalla/Colelctor’s Editions. Having a console that is digital-only is not an excuse to not provide discs, if you argue that digital is accessible to everyone, then you are essentially just showing favoritism to digital as some people really would rather physical copies and you are denying/not offering that. A little let down by what could have been an amazing showing of content.

Side-note: Also disappointed like some that it is a large statue of the tremortusk and not a much larger statue of Aloy, the iconic figure of the series. :(

    • zero dawn came with an Aloy statue

    • You’re the only person showing favoritism is you pal, you’re telling Sony to exclude people from buying the game because YOU like having disks. There are people who would rather not want annoying disks to swap out every time they switch games as well. Digital Console Owners want to buy the Collectors Editions as well, and if you only offer a disk they can’t. You Physical Owners can still buy it because you can do both, Digital Owners cannot, and I have no problem with you being able to buy and play the game.

    • @ NexusFX – Stop making an idiot of yourself in the comments nexus…just roll this damn page and see the complaints about the lack of disc,it’s not him specifically CEs are not for people who went digital only with PS5,they don’t give a damn and stop pretending you dunno. The thought that there is always someone defending an anti-consumer practice is truly sad.

  • For everyone complaining about no links.. Maybe they were not working originally (they worked when I tried) but they are now. If you want to purchase the Collector’s Editions you have to scroll down to the “Pre-order Horizon Forbidden West on Blu-ray disc” section and select them there. Both the Collector and Regalla links worked for me.

Of course this could be different by region. I can only comment based on being in the US.

While the lack of a disc is disappointing I am sure these will sell out fairly quickly so the “vote with your wallet” boycott probably won’t be very effective. If you think they are cool editions I’d recommend buying them rather than regretting it later when you can’t find them. It is only a pre-order so you have time to think about it and cancel later if you really decide you don’t want to support this sort of version.

  • I love the artwork for the SteelBook! The side profile of Aloy is reminiscent of the gorgeous Game Informer cover revealed back in 2016

  • Question: what’s the statue sizes gonna be like – height and diameter ? :O
Ordered the Regalla just in case:P

    • Sony can you please send Jim Ryan back to the spreadsheet department and put someone who understands gamers in charge? Or at least someone who doesn’t lie to us all the time (“We believe in generations”).

Fire Jim and while you’re at it, fire your PR/Marketing teams. You’re slowly but surely destroying all the goodwill you generated with the PS4. The obnoxious, play hard-to-get strategy of silence for months and months on end only to shoot yourselves in the foot with an idiotic announcement like this is wearing us out.

Congrats on doing the right thing and reversing, but this should have never happened in the first place.

    • not sure about the size but the statue in the regalla edition is different than the collectors edition. congrats on landing it!

  • I was super excited to see a collector’s edition!

…until I saw you guys were making the utterly RIDICULOUS choice to ship the CE without a physical disc and a “display” steelbook. That’s utterly ridiculous, man.

I was 100% getting that until I saw this nonsense. Guess it’s just the vanilla disc for me.

    • @nexusfx Jim Ryan… that you?? Because going down this page… you sound like you’re on payroll. It’s clear the nonsense your typing is in the minority, but your delusion doesn’t allow you to see the facts as you continue supporting a non consumer practice because of your personal purchase.

I suggest coming back down to reality and actually reading what people are saying… it makes far more sense then “don’t forget the digital console owners”… the option should be there for the disc or a digital download. Plain and simple. If you can’t see how that makes sense? Seek help.
