Play at Home 2021 update: 10 free games to download this Spring

Download free indie games and PS VR games starting March 25. And get ready: PS4 blockbuster Horizon Zero Dawn will be free for a limited time starting April 19.

Hi again! Last month we revealed our new Play at Home program for 2021, which aims to provide the PlayStation community with free games and entertainment offers to make the next few months a little more fun.

The program kicked off earlier this month with access to a free digital copy of the 2016 hit Ratchet & Clank for PS4 — and you can still claim a free digital copy of the game through March 31, 2021 at 8pm PDT* / April 1 at 4am BST / 5am CEST.

Now, let’s talk about the next Play at Home content drop, which hits March 25! This time our focus is a selection of free games from some of our top independent partners, and the previously announced extended trial offer for Funimation (or Wakanim) in the countries where they are available.

Starting March 25, 2021

PlayStation and some of our favorite indie partners are collaborating to provide more free games to explore while you’re staying safe and staying home:

Abzû

From the artistic mind behind Journey, Flower, and The Pathless, ABZÛ is a beautiful underwater adventure that evokes the dream of diving. Immerse yourself in a vibrant ocean world full of mystery and bursting with color and life.

Enter the Gungeon

Enter the Gungeon is a gunfight dungeon crawler following a band of misfits seeking to shoot, loot, dodge roll and table-flip their way to personal absolution by reaching the legendary Gungeon’s ultimate treasure: the gun that can kill the past.

Rez Infinite

Prepare yourself for the ultimate version of Rez, a thrilling journey of sights and sounds and shooting action, remastered and upgraded by members of the original development team exclusively for PS4 and (optional) PlayStation VR.

Subnautica

You have crash-landed on an alien ocean world, and the only way to go is down. Subnautica’s oceans range from sun-drenched shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches, lava fields, and bio-luminescent underwater rivers. The water teems with life: Some of it helpful, much of it harmful.

The Witness

The Witness is a single-player game in an open world with dozens of locations to explore and over 500 puzzles. This game respects you as an intelligent player and it treats your time as precious. There’s no filler: each of those puzzles brings its own new idea into the mix. So, this is a game full of ideas.

We’re also proud to serve up a selection of free PlayStation VR games*** starting on March 25:

Astro Bot Rescue Mission

Get a whole new perspective on platform games, thanks to PlayStation VR, in this daring rescue operation. Take control of Astro in a massive adventure to rescue his crew, where the PS VR headset puts you right in the thick of the action. Judge every jump with accuracy and be curious – there are lots of secrets to discover in your daring quest.

Moss

Moss is a single-player action-adventure puzzle game and new IP from Polyarc tailor-made for the VR platform. In Moss, players meet Quill, a young mouse with dreams of greatness beyond the confines of her settlement. While exploring the woods, she finds a mysterious Glass Relic and an ancient magic is awakened.

Thumper

Thumper is rhythm violence: classic rhythm-action, blistering speed, and brutal physicality. You are a space beetle. Brave the hellish void and confront a maniacal giant head from the future. Every crushing impact is interwoven with a pounding original soundtrack. To reach synesthetic bliss, you must go through rhythm hell.

Paper Beast

Experience a dreamlike odyssey in virtual reality. Discover a wild ecosystem, born from lost Internet data. Be the first to explore a world inhabited by exotic and surprising creatures, and shape your environment to overcome obstacles and puzzles. Unravel the mysteries of Paper Beast, a game born from the imagination of Eric Chahi (Another World, From Dust).

This amazing selection of PS4 games and PS VR games will be available for free download from March 25 8:00pm PT / March 26 03:00 GMT / 04:00 CET to April 22 8:00pm PT / April 23 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST.

Funimation / Wakanim

Don’t forget: in participating countries, we’re also offering an extended trial of Funimation (or Wakanim, depending on region), a joint venture of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex of Japan. The anime-focused subscription service includes shows such as My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Attack on Titan, and Fruits Basket. This extended trial offer  kicks off on March 25 and is available through April 22****.

Starting April 19, 2021

But there’s more to come later this spring. Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be available for free download between April 19 8:00pm PT / April 20 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST and May 14 8:00pm Pacific Time / May 15 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST.

We’ll have more to share soon. We appreciate the support from the PlayStation community, and hope you enjoy our latest content drop – please stay safe and thanks for playing!

  • That’s a great selection of games and I can only congratulate for that move. To whoever owns a PS VR and haven’t played yet Astro Bot: play it at your earliest convenience, you won’t regret it!

However, Jim, what are you doing with legacy PlayStation consoles is just sad and disrespectful towards your loyal customers. Bring back discounts on older titles, please.

    • You’re absolutely right, I think Astro is possibly one of the best 3D platformers that I’ve ever played. Moss was also very good 😊

    • Yeah you’re right about that! The PS3 has been left back behind and there’s still some games I want from there.

Xbox store has games for the 360 going on sale for small change. Wish Sony would do the same 🙄

    • Thankfully I shifted bulk of my digital purchases to Xbox from 2015 onwards once they showed that they are serious about backwards compatibility. Playstation store is now good enough only for free games(PS+ or otherwise). I can’t spend anything significantly on a digital store that is happy to obsolete your content within a decade. Discounts don’t really matter much when the shelf life of digital content is so less.

  • Ty sony

Now, we need more japanese games
    No more western games

    • THE GREAT JOBS OF USA BOYS GIRLS AND OLDERS I must give my thanks to Ashley, who posted here last week comment About system she uses to earn onlin℮… I’ve got my first check total of $550, pretty cool. i Am so excited, this is the first time i Actually earned something. i am going to work even harder new And i can’t wait for next week payment.go to home tab for more detail…

    • That should work out just fine now that Sony has shuttered their Japan Studio.

  • Great drop of games. Considering I can’t find a PS5 to save my life, this will give me something to do until the PS5 slim comes out. (That’s when I’ll finally be able to walk into a store and buy one without having to deal with scalpers and bots buying up all of the supply drops)!

  • Other than Ratchet & Clank and Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, I have absolutely none of these (unless you count Abzu when I had a free Plus trial). Considering the world situation, this is absolutely generous. Also, I’ve had my eyes on Enter The Gungeon for a long time but never bought it, which’ll make waiting to get it even more worth it (I have a slight obsession with roguelikes/roguelites).

I love the direction Sony is taking, and I really hope they keep this up during this sucky pandemic.

  • Wow, so much stuff, i can’t wait :D

  • Regarding The Witness, “treats your time as precious”.
    HAHAHAHA!!
Great game though, everyone play it!

    • I wish I could erase my mind and then replay The Witness. Getting the platinum was one of my most satisfying gaming experiences ever.

It started of slow, then ramped up and eventually occupied every moment of my mind. Loved it.

  • Is it just me thinking “This is better than we had on PS+ last year and there isn’t even a subscription”?
Nice selection of free games Sony, nice to see the acknowledgement of the PSVR owners 😊

  • Thank u Sony!
And sorry Jim i was think u don’t care about us at all.
    I was wrong about you!
Thank you Jim! God bless you.

  • So if I have horizon but not the dlc then can I get the dlc for free?

    • Yes

    • @breadlofer747 are you sure?

Because if you check now the complete edition is not available for purchase if you already own the standard digital version. Not just Horizon, but most if not all games with multiple versions/ editions.

  • Whoot whoot! Thank you for the generosity! But I can’t download R&C. It gives me an error WS-43691-3.
    A Licences restore didn’t help…

  • There are some really great games in this list!

  • Umm will it be Limited? some of the games?

  • Una pregunta ya me tomaré el tiempo de leer más los juegos por ejemplo:horizon zero dawn ¿Si lo descargo lo tendré para siempre en mi biblioteca?

  • Wow-wee! PlayStation is absolutely the best place to play.

  • Meh…. these games don’t look interesting and I don’t think they’re worth the play….. also I already played Horizon Zero Dawn on PS Now but I’ll add that to my library

    • Try Subnautica. There is a very good chance you will get hooked.

Enter the Gungeon is also a really good game despite what the visuals might suggest. It is addictive in that you keep unlocking new weapons, so each death, and there will be many, does not feel so bad.

      A great game to Platinum.

  • Hi, I already have bought Horizon Zero Dawn but didn’t play the DLC ( Frozen Wild ).
Can I get it for free now or should I pay for it? Very kind if you could answer my question.

    • Complete edition obviously means with all dlc 😁 lucky for us its full game with all dlc enjoy Amir!

    • Did you get the standard version? If so you should be able to get the Complete Edition since they’re two separate applications

    • Once you already own the standard digital edition, the complete edition is not available for purchase on the PS Store. This is what I’ve noticed.

I’m asking the same thing as I have the standard digital version of the game without the extra DLC and stuff so I’m wondering if they’ll let us get the DLC for free or re-download the game as a complete package (don’t mind playing through it all again).

    • If you want it and it says that you can’t download it just make a new account and download it

  • Is it the Horizon Zero Dawn Complete or the standard version, then we will need to wait until April 19 for the DLC (Frozen Wild)?

  • And I purchased Horizon Zero Dawn last month. I hate you Sony XD…

  • Good games

  • Thanks a TON Sony for the absolute best three month run of PS+ and now all of this?! INCREDIBLE! You guys are really kind, thanks again!

  • Always wanted to play horizon zero dawn, thanks playstation!

    • Whoa boy are you in for a treat. Don’t skip out on the text pickups, they’re quite possibly the best you’ve ever seen, packed with emotion and really bring the world to life. *Especially* the vantage point text—don’t just listen to the audio, you gotta read the text from your collection. That story will BREAK YOUR HEART

  • So I have horizon zero dawn for disk but if I download it ill get to fully keep it?

  • i love the party!

  • Thanks sony you the best

  • 🔥🔥🔥🤩🤩🤩🤩

  • This is awesome. Thank you Sony

  • Do we get to keep the games? Or only get to play in the time frame?

  • But don’t forget! We still have more games in May AND June!!! I’m crossing my fingers for little big planet 3!

  • This is awesome! Really appreciate the support and free adventure you give us during these difficult times. Great chance to get lost in a new world! I love it!

  • The pandemic has been a boon for the gaming industry, thanks for paying some of that success forward!

  • Heck yeaaa boiiii.

  • Thank you for the games. Is Horizon Zero Dawn 60fps on PS5? I plan on playing it some time soon in anticipation of Forbidden West.

  • @Sony, How is that Wakanim doesn’t have an app on PS5? Also the Ps4 version is not accessible from Iceland.

  • This is an awesome selection of games.

  • Nothing for me (is VR still trying to hang on…well 3d tried too) as the only one I am interested in is Horizon and I already own that and the dlc.

Instead of giving little games like this away, I would love to see my Plus money going towards IMPLEMENTING CROSS-PLAY especially for racing games! The year is 2021 and this is still not happening. Seriously Sony, what is the problem? I would honestly love to know why this has not happened since there is one game it happened for…..hmmmm

    • I’m Sorry To Burst Bubble
      But Every Game Including Fortnite
Should Not Have Crossplay Even Modern warfare 2019
Because Sony And Microsoft Doesn’t get along
And their’s No Problem with that I actually agree of why they dont
      Back to topic
Games in general shouldn’t have crossplay at all

  • These offered games are nice Mr. Jim Ryan,
Because for so long i thought getting free games os PS is practically impossible, as there are so many games including big AAA’s that are offered for free for a limited time on PC.
It is nice to know PS is catching up in this sector (Free Games)
    Thanks

  • Good nice

  • I already own most of these free on PC MONTHS ago. nice to see the same games like enter the gungeon making the rounds after ive earned them free from both amazon and epic.

    • That’s the spirit.

Never ever, ever, ever, ever look a gift horse in the mouth. Instead look at it directly in the mouth and kick it in the groin while you are it.

      Class act.

  • I Can’t Wait To Play

    Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition

    On Playstation
Ik Getting A Playstation 5 is a struggle With Scalpers And Bots And Sadly I Have To Get Stuck With Playstation 4 But Atleast Its A System That I’m Thankful For Having !

Thank You Jim Ryan And All Sony Entertainment Workers for being This Generous Company And Giving Away 10 Free Games For “Play At Home”.

I Hope Its Every Month Because Its A Life Changer Due To Pandemic (Covid-19) Because Having To Stay At Home Sucks Most Of The Time For Everyone

So We’re All Appreciated The Love From You Guys

I Truly Hope You Sony Entertainment Can Find A Way To Permanently Stop The Scalpers And Bots So That I An others Can Buy That Beautiful PS5 :)

  • Thank you PlayStation, stay save and healthy all.

  • I buyed subnautica yesterday is there anyway to get my money back or I just got shafted?

  • Thank you! What a wonderful way to keep entertained while being homebound.

  • This is awesome!

  • Very nice selection! I was thinking of getting Rez actually so this works out great. Thanks, Sony!

  • Super Excited for all to come! Once again showing why PlayStation is the place to play😄

  • This is great 🤩😁. But please next time can you please add multiplayer 🙏🏽😭

  • Amazing selection of games, specially Horizon. I wish they would have added the Uncharted series too

  • Awesome news!

  • Great stuff Sony!!! Looking forward to what else more is in store until June.

    Two questions:
    1. For some of us who bought & own the digital version of Horizon Zero Dawn before the ‘Complete Edition’ was released, any chance of getting that DLC for free? Or,

    2. Do we delete the current version of the game and re-download it again in order to own the ‘Complete Edition?’ I honestly wouldn’t mind replaying the entire game again.

C’mon Sony, you’ve given us a bone to chew on, it’s inevitable we’d ask for a tiny bit of meat to go with it 🍖

  • I would gladly give up all 9 of these games to be able to get my hands on PT. It’s a demo….Wheres the harm?
