Play At Home returns: Four months of offers for PlayStation games and entertainment begin March 1

Free games and entertainment offers for the PlayStation community kick off in March and extend through June.

Hello again! The past 12 months haven’t been easy. And I think we’re all hopeful that we may be starting to see some flickers of light at the end of this long COVID-19 tunnel thanks to the tireless work of the medical community and people around the world.

In these historic times, the team at PlayStation wanted to thank the community by giving something back. These days, we could all use something to look forward to and another reason to stay safely socially distanced, so we are happy to be able to offer a free selection of great games and some entertainment offers.

Last April, we launched the Play At Home initiative, offering up two incredible PlayStation games for free: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey*. I like to think they helped make the year just a little bit easier.

This year, we wanted to go further. So we’ve designed a series of free games and entertainment offers for our PlayStation community to make the next few months a little more fun and enjoyable.

This year’s Play at Home initiative is kicking off in March and extending through June.

Starting March 1, 2021

  • PlayStation and Insomniac Games will make Ratchet & Clank PS4 available for free download for a limited time through PlayStation Store from March 1 at 8pm PST / March 2 at 4am GMT / 5am CET to March 31, 2021 at 8pm PDT* / April 1 at 4am BST / 5am CEST.
  • Once you redeem the game, it will be yours to keep. This 2016 PS4 action-adventure hit from Insomniac Games revisits the origin stories of these beloved PlayStation heroes and features a great mix of outrageous combat and comedy.

Starting March 25, 2021

  • Our friends at Funimation (a joint venture of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex of Japan) are kicking in a very special offer: extended access for new subscribers to Funimation or Wakanim in the countries they are available **. Funimation is an anime-focused subscription service and Wakanim is  Funimation’s European division. While there will be additional details to follow, this offer is only available to our community who sign up for and download the Funimation (in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand) or Wakanim apps (in most of Western and Northern Europe) starting on March 25 for a limited time.

What we outlined today is just the beginning of what’s in store for Play At Home. In the coming weeks, we’ll share more details on free games and entertainment offers dropping for our PlayStation community.

I think we’ve got a great mix of games and entertainment offers lined up, and I hope this news made your day just a little bit brighter. We consider ourselves privileged to bring you this entertainment, and we are very grateful to be a part of your lives.

Thanks for playing.

*Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection was provided to PlayStation users in regions except Germany and China. Users in Germany and China received free access to Knack 2.

** FUNIMATION — On top of the standard 14-day trial, new users can get an additional 90 days. WAKANIM — New users will get 90 days free. Unless you cancel your subscription before the end of the  period, your subscription will automatically roll into a paid-for, ongoing subscription with a recurring monthly fee. Age restrictions apply. More information to follow.

  • Already own Ratchet & Clank through PS+ but good for those who don’t I guess.

    • The difference being that this one is yours to keep forever even if your ps+ runs out.

    • I’m actually curious about that, how do we claim it to own it rather than just as a PS+ game? Is it possible to do?

    • Sure it is. They’ll just change its price to “free” on the store. That’s all there is to it.

    • theVoltan: that’s NOT all there is to it. If it still is like it always has been, you will NOT be able to ‘buy’ this game for free if you already own the game through PS+. There’s been many examples of this in the past, e.g. people wanting a special version of a game they already had with PS+, and it required them to contact support to get rid of their PS+ license of the game. Sony really needs to fix this, but they probably never will.

    • just claim it on another account, problem solved :)

    • @ViperHD

This problem was fixed last summer. You can now purchase games outright that you already own through PS+

    • This is merely the beginning and more titles will be on offer. Also, it appears as though Funimation will be for for 90 days beyond the two week trial.

    • eu ja tenho era fixe fosse o wwe2k20 ou wwe2k19

    • ViperHD: that IS how it works but sony still hasn’t completely optimized the store on some of my previous ps plus games I have the option to outright purchase the games but for others it doesn’t give me any option except to download, this is the same way I redeemed last years play at home games ( the Nathan drake collection and journey) both were games given with ps plus but I now own them permanently

    • La verdad nuca he probado el juego no se si trilogía pero con este juego amenos tendré una idea sobre de que va el juego, y seguro que me encantara.

  • State of Play when?

  • I love Ratchet & Clank even tho I own the game copy I’ll be adding it again for sure.

  • June free games gotta be good

  • Cool, never played the R&C PS4. Loved playing on the various ps3 games.

  • Great news from great company
    Thaaanks you :)

  • Of all the games it just had to be a previous PS Plus game… Oh and its a current one on PS5. Why not giveaway a game that will interest more people instead of a limited audience.

    • If they gave away a PS5 game you would moan that nobody, 7 million people that is, has one (and clearly 3 million of that is scalpers too, right?).

You were going to moan NO…. MATTER…..WHAT.

    • @andrewsqual stop talking nonsense. I would be happy with any non previous PS Plus game…. All this is.. is marketing for the upcoming R&C, all they are doing is making money from this. CLUELESS!

    • Clearly a marketing move to generate more interest in the upcoming RC Rift Apart game.

    • You may have a chance to keep it permanently now

  • That’s an awesome initiative. Would love to see more first party titles added

  • I missed last time to get the Uncharted Collection, becoz of the lockdown conundrum.
Is there anyway I can get it again for free via the Play At Home initiative.

    • That is good for the lockdown.
BECAUSE I’M BORED PLAYING BATTLE ROYAL GAMES EVERY TIME!!!!!!!!

    • Im sure you can do it remotely on a mobile device. By adding it to your library if thats your question.

    • I missed the Uncharted Collection too. Guess I need to watch the blog closer. Wish they’d sent an email. I’m disappointed because I loved them on PS3 & I’m trying to go digital now. Thankfully I already had Journey. Although part of me hoped they’d re-do the giveaway considering how the covid situation is still a mess.

  • so if you bought a ps5 you can just suck an egg?

  • Ratchet and Clank was a really good game.

    • 2016 game or 2002 game
when I replayed the original games then the 2016 remake i couldn’t bare the character changes and poor character rewrites

  • Awesome game and I’m glad I can add a permanent digital version for BC with my PS5 as my current copy is physical. Though this feels more of a marketing push opportunity as we all know that Rift Apart is due in June, so I sense a promotional motive behind this than anything else.

  • Not trying to complain but are they all just gonna be previous PS Plus games? As a loyal PS Plus subscriber since 2014 I’d like to get something different. Perhaps a PlayLink game like Frantics? Maybe even Killzone Shadow Fall?

    • Who knows? Ratchet and Clank is just one of their first free game announcement. Let’s just see what else they’ll offer.

    • For some of us who owns playstation plus its annoying when you allready own a game and it comes out on ps plus or free to everyone else. Even more annoying when you buy a certain game just for it to be announced on ps plus a month later. They should at least give you something for previously owning that game.

    • To be honest they don’t have to give you anything.
They could just as easily take it away.

  • Hey. A free game and some extra stuff is always nice. But I hope, that later games will be some, that have not been on PS+ before. The long-time subscribers just got nothing from these so far, as everything given away was a part of + lineup at some point. I am at least glad for those people, that are not subscribed. :)

    • Hey what’s up Miro! Agreed. It’s hard to be excited to a game I bought physically then got free with ps+ then got free again from ps collection on ps5, plus they want us to buy upcoming R&C game so.. But at least it benefits some. As it’s not like they HAVE to give us anything for free. So the thought is appreciated haha.

  • PLAYSTATION / we are connected

  • Yep, it’s PlayStation for the win per usual. Thanks for being the best place to play!

  • This is a really nice offer from Sony… whilst it’s true Ratchet and Clank was on PS Plus before not everyone will have it and free games are never a bad thing.
I expected the Funimation/Wakanim tie up with Playstation ever since the acquisition but looks like it only an extended trial.
I really think Sony need to overhaul PS Plus before Game Pass gets too big.
Instead multiple subscription services roll PS Plus, PS Now and perhaps even anime streaming into a single subscription program.
They can still tier the program into 2 or 3 pricing levels like gold and platinum if needed but make sure the top package has everything included along with added incentives.

    • The problem with that though is that PS Now isn’t terribly popular.

Part of that is probably because it’s not available in most countries, and even where it is, not where there’s poor internet (such as most of NA). But still, it’s just not really something most people seem to have gone for.

So tying it to PS+ probably wouldn’t do much but make PS+ more expensive. For a feature most people don’t seem to care for, for whatever reason. Anime streaming is also probably a bit niche.

    • If anything they need to seperate online from PS+ so we can choose what to pay for, not add more to it so they can bump up the total price even higher.

    • Online shouldn’t be part of Plus at all as it’s just a dishonest marketing thing.

As online in third party games is all p2p or third party hosted, and there’s barely any Sony online titles. It kind of makes the “PS+ money improves online services” a bit a joke.

It they were honest they’d make it only for the online Sony titles hosted on Sony servers. But they’re a company, so you know how that works.

    • MiseryPrincess – you are absolutely right, PS Now isn’t popular and I think that’s largely down to it’s value proposition which is poor.

You also raise some very good points regarding availability in region and streaming but I’m more focused on the ability to download PS4 games instead of streaming the older titles.

My thought was not exactly to tie the services together creating a more expensive service but instead create a fresh program which is cost effective whilst discontinuing the existing ones.

From my perspective Game Pass Ultimate which includes online services, a changing catalog of games, a few new titles each month and now cloud streaming is not that much different from PS Plus + PS Now. If Microsoft can do it for £11/month Sony should be able to offer something equivalent.

    • Sony doesn’t care about offering decent services like that at this point. They made that clear a long time ago. They think they’re invincible.

  • What a complete Joke I already own this game cause I bought it like most other players!! Sony is a joke give us something worth while instead of garbage games and that other anime crap on the 25th is just that it’s all crap give us something memorable not same garbage over and over!

    • You’re the type person who just think for themselves huh? What about for those people that aren’t able to get the game and are excited for this freebie? Stop being ignorant and think of others and plus, there are more free games to come ffs -_-

    • “Sony are giving me something for free that they don’t have to but instead of being thankful I will complain.”

I already have the game myself as well as from the PS Plus collection but I still think this is great. It is a way for them to boost the hype for the next game and then you have everyone whom never had a PS4 or just got it (those exist and many of them).

I’m actually really glad Sony are giving away anything.
You can’t make everyone happy, but it’s completely free and yours to keep and play even if you don’t have PS+.

  • Thanks for Sony for this. Interesting freebie to look forward for those who missed it :)
    Cheers.

  • Excellent. Looking forward to hearing what’s next.

  • Off-topic, but please Sony, cut the price of Arkham Knight Family Matters DLC. I’ve been waiting months to play it but need it more affordable!

  • Thank you playstation! I never played ratchet & clank before. Gonna play it for sure!

  • please i want spyro themes and avatars exclusives give them ones more for i try to get those for months and i wanted for more than 2 years now

  • While I appreciate the gesture, I hope they aren’t all exclusives that the most dedicated Playstation fans already own…

  • I played since playstation 2 but i dont have an PSN acount back then. My acount is like 5 month old

  • 60 fps patch for Ratchet and Clank for PS5?

  • Thank you Sony for making the shelter in place that much bearable. This latest round of goodies is unexpected and much appreciated.

  • I tried checking out Wakanim. Apparentally, even though I live in Poland, it defaults to Russian…

  • Some people have supported PlayStation for over 20 years. About 20% of the draw is that you cannot get the games anywhere else. I think this is a bad idea. I’m thinking why would somebody buy a PlayStation now. I can just wait for the PC ports they’re going to run better anyway. The games are going to be cheaper. I don’t have to pay for PS plus. This is a quick game but it’s going to have a long time consequence.

    • Nah, not everyone can afford a gaming PC, not the prebuilts anyway. Ask Microsoft about putting games out that are exclusive to their console and PC. They would tell you it makes you more money, not less.

  • It has been and still is trying times. Thank you, PlayStation for giving people respite. R&C will bring a smile to many faces.

  • What does this mean for PS5 owners who have the game already as part of the PS Plus collection? If we stop paying for PS Plus will that game we already added into our library become ours to keep?

  • corporate spin off

  • Bravo
    Very Nice
    Thank you Sony 💗💗💗

  • Hope they add overwatch free version Only quickplay.

  • Meh, I wish it was the Jak and Daxter Collection. A much better series. Or any far better game. You don’t care about inFamous anymore, give Second Son out to people.

    • They’ve given out Second Son for free many times already. It’s even free right now along with Ratchet and Clank on PS5 with the ps plus collection.

No Jak and Daxter though. Probably because if you subtract the nostalgia those games were garbage…

    • damn, ppl really complaining about free things… we will never be satisfied, don’t we?

    • @Ralstonizer There’s no nostalgia for me, but I still liked the Jak and Daxter games. It didn’t feel as garbage, probably just a bit easy but that’s about it.

  • I bought this game around 7-8 months ago, and then it comes to ps plus collection, which i found kind of annoying but oh well. But then to make it free to everyone for a certain amount of time is annoying at this point. Its happened to me several times. Now ive learnt litterally not to buy games, i think alot of people dont like when they get games they allready own, it makes buying it not worth it as you could have got it later for cheaper or even free. But it is what it is and thats what i get for buying games like that.

    • That’s how things work though, wait long enough and almost without exception every game will be much cheaper (or free, or a PS+ rental). But that doesn’t mean that at the time of purchase it’s not worthwhile (thought remember you can always get it cheaper). Think of it as getting something early, or something.

On the other hand, not every game becomes free (there’s generally more than 20 PS4 games a month, so they can’t all become Plus titles). Things like Sony published games are generally going to, however. Thought not always.

  • The Ratchet & Clank thing is awesome, I’ve had that one on my list for a while now, but what really caught my eye was the Funimation thing. I’ve never been a fan of anime, but I’ve never really given it a chance, so now’s the time to do so with this new extended free trial thing. Cool that they’re doing it too, makes me wonder if after the Funimation thing is over if they’re gonna do Crunchyroll next.

  • Owned this hard copy for years. That blows we get nothing fun announcement. Sony is out of touch these days yikes what happened over there?!

  • Please add Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, Yakuza Kiwami, God of War III Remastered, Final Fantasy XV, Spider-Man or Days Gone.

    • Bloodborne, GoW3 Remastered and Days Gone would be awesome. I don’t see Spider-Man having any chance. Sony’s making so much money from the PS4 & PS5 versions.

I also doubt it with Days Gone simply because we’re still in a pandemic and the game is about a “pandemic” 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • Finally i can play R&C without PS+ :)

  • Better stop throwing away PlayStation Exclusive games on PC.
That is what was detrimental to the success of the Xbox, but Microsoft owns PC so they don’t care…
As a company, you’ll loose game sales, you’ll loose console sales and subscription sales.
They won’t be part of the PlayStation ecosystem and some will likely just pirate the games.
Then after consoles sales drop, then the consoles are more rare, then the physical copies goes away, and Sony is left with nothing.
Nintendo isn’t putting their games elsewhere, they are also a success.
If people can’t go ahead and buy a console to play your games, they aren’t even going to bother playing them on PC.

    • There’s a HUGE chunk of gamers that don’t play in PC.
So, the consoles sales will always be there, Sony is too big of a brand to lose that. Same with Xbox.
The fact that PS5 orders run out in minutes still should tell you that they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon and physical media within the gaming world is still going strong.

    • Microsoft owns PC? Are you serious? Microsoft doesn’t ‘own’ PC, especially not the gaming market.

Games like HZD and Days Gone have almost no economic value left in the PlayStation eco-system. People either have the game by now, or don’t want it. So it makes perfect sense to sell these games years later on the PC platform. Leaving software on the shelf, just for the sake of keeping it exclusive, is dumb from a business point of view. Why not make more money without hurting your own platform? It’s a win-win situation, as these games might also lure PC gamers to PlayStation.

    • Microsoft doesn’t own pc they own the windows software 😂

  • muchas gracias Sony :D

  • Days gone please and thankyou

  • I search at google they say that we will get Ratchet and Clank PS4 with no Ps Plus required but I am curious that it will really be free without need ps plus .

  • Lol wish they would announce the next (3?) games to be free.
