PlayStation 5: Launch Day Ordering Update

Launch-day sales will be online-only this year, so please plan ahead.

Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us! In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

    I’m gonna be kind about this but I AM RUINED. I have been trying to snag a pre-order and I was there on day one when they where dropped early without notice. NOW all my friends will have one on DAY ONE while I won’t. I literally have $!,000 DOLLARS saved up for this but because Pre-orders went so fast, I couldn’t get one. THIS ISN’T FAIR.

      And BTW I am a YouTuber and gaming is my job but I know that doesn’t matter to those who just bought consoles to resale at high prices.

      Yeah, I don’t even know how some people were notified of the pre-orders and many were not. That definitely seemed unfair for longtime PlayStation players – I wonder how Sony determined whom to notify?

    So, how I’m i going to purchase the console? internet orders are for scalpers, you’ll find them on eBay for double the price. Is amazing that Sony can’t do anything about scalpers, and we… the long time fans have to suffer the consequences, im very disappointed with PS and Sony.

    Very responsible of Sony. As long as stores only do local pickup instead of delivery, that should thwart bots, I hope.

    Dobra wszystko ok jeżeli zamówisz w dniu premiery to konkretnie ile trzeba będzie czekać na konsole kiedy ona będzie dostarczona do klienta bo sądzę że są małe szanse na dostanie jej w 12/19 listopada bo ja czegoś tu nie rozumiem można będzie kupić tylko online no spoko ale skoro kupię ja online to dla niektórych konsumentów to nie problem żeby iść i odebrać osobiście swoje zamówienie
    Bo Z tego co wiem to w UK w dniu premiery 19 listopada jeżeli kupiłeś w przed sprzedaży lub kupisz w dniu premiery to w części sklepów będzie można odebrać osobiście konsole ponieważ sklepy zastosują metodę kliknij i odbierz mam nadzieję że będzie nadal to możliwe

    First anthem destroyed my ps4 back in August, then y’all messed up with preorders, and now this? This is unbelievably dumb it’s already hard enough to find any system let alone a ps5 and you took away the only chance most people had to get one. I’m done with PlayStation and done with Sony I’m sick of this weak ass customer service

    I think any gamers and shoppers with sense are more afraid of being robbed or worse stabbed or shot and robbed for their expensive and desired console than of covid(unless you have a condition) my friend was killed for delivering a pizza and the only thing taken wasn’t his phone wallet or car keys just the pizza, done by a cousin of a famous rapper who was only 14, the shooter that is. So everyone be careful and safe. There is also a big risk of doorbell front step thieves hoping that the package outside your door is a ps5. So there is something to be said about being patient and waiting till stored have stock or until the early months of the crazyness calms down. Also playstation I will be getting a ps5 but I hope you guys eventually come out with a ps5 pro, and don’t be afraid of launching it in 2022, I’m not being sarcastic, many gamers want a premium console and more power for graphics is always a plus. Maybe even 20 teraflops worth like a certain competitor in the pc market will have this month, caugh caugh rtx 3070 that said 500 for a graphics card vs 4 or 500 for a entire system is a great deal, and makes the digital version a very tempting option.

    Online ordering was a disaster the first time. Bots and scalpers got most of the units. Now you’re going to let that happen again? Actual humans can’t compete with a custom bot on speed ordering. I’ve tried 6+ times to order online with various retailers. By the time I hit checkout they’re gone. Not happy.

    Is this just the US or does it include Australia as well. Is there going to be any possibility of ordering more in Australia or do I have to wait for next year, because I heard at EB games we cant put in any type of order at all till after the street date release.

I thought he was crazy at first but maybe not. Great job Sony but hey as long as all the youtubers and streamers get theirs you all can just go pay them to watch while they open and play theirs with their content creator privilege on full display. All us bottom feeders can just wait.

    So you are making it so no one can actually buy the damn thing because bots are going to buy them up and people will resell them. But hey, anything to make a buck right? You get paid either way and your player base suffers. Didn’t think this one through did ya?

    Maybe you should have been more in the ball so that you made sure all pre orders were allocated. I won’t be getting my pre-order until way after launch date as you won’t fulfill all the orders.

    Can we please get native 1440p support on ps5. I play on a ultra wide monitor and id love to at least get a little extra clarity even if ps5 doesn’t natively support ultra wide.

    Hey there Sid and thank you so very much for your years of great work for Playstation. Personally I appreciate it. I don’t know if you’ll see this message, though I am truly hoping you do as I don’t know who else to message with the question (and to some extent, a concern) I have. I wanted to ask if you know anything about Sony’s plan to include the very great app called “USB Media Player” on PS5?

    Now I don’t know if you remember but there was a big backlash (similar to the recent System update 8.00 Party System) for removing the USB Music Player app when Sony did remove it via a system update and they, relatively quickly, put the app back into the PS4’s OS.

    I have been somewhat afraid to ask about this very perfect app because I’m concerned Sony has probably taken it out of the PS5’s OS with no intention to re-implementing it. Shu if you catch this message, please, could you do what you can within your power to suggest to the appropriate personnel to implement the USB Music Player app for the PS5? I feel as though this is such a small request but it results in more variety for the players as I prefer to game with the absolute knowledge that I can queue whatever music I wish, same as I do on PS4 and I must say it is beyond words on how amazing my experience is with the app. this is why Sony included in the first place **and**, it is why the players spoke up when Sony removed it from the PS4 only to re-implement it. Are there any bad reasons *not* to implement this wonderfully simple app on the PS5? Please tell me there is at least a chance within a relatively small period of time to implement this app into the PS5 if it isn’t. All the best Sid and thank you for all you do!

    With all due respect, your motto recently has been “play has no limits”. But if everyone who wants a ps5 on launch day can’t get one doesn’t that make play limited… just saying, given the circumstances of COVID-19 there would work constraints but doesn’t really matter. Everyone that wants a ps5 console should get one on launch.

    I don’t blame you, I already switched to Microsoft. I had no problem getting a Xbox on preorder and was even able to get another one two weeks later as well. Add that with it will have better stability and graphics along with gamepass which Sony still has nothing comparable to even compete with it. It’s a win win man. Let’s not forget the cross play restrictions as well. Xbox wins hands down.

      You’re aware PS5 has all of these games available for free at launch? And many of these are great games (even if they are also PS4 games), so not sure how you say xbox wins. The only problem I have is how hard it will be to get a PS5 close to launch, but you will be able to obtain one eventually. The fact that it’s so hard to grab a PS5 shows it’s popularity!
