PlayStation 5: Launch Day Ordering Update

Launch-day sales will be online-only this year, so please plan ahead.

Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us! In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

    Man this is lame. We all know how this is going to go….all the bots are going to get any available orders that weren’t pre-orders (which bots mainly got anyway). I’m so sick of this nonsense. Standing in line was my only chance at getting a PS5 on launch-day which I was sadly willing to do because that’s what it’ll take. Really annoying!

    This leaves a really bad taste in my mouth as a PlayStation fan. Had literally every PlayStation generation of consoles, stood in line for a PS4 and Vita at launch, been on PS Plus since day one in the optional days, have over 400 PS4 games on my account, yet somehow Sony doesn’t deem that as someone who can pre-order the console?

    I just can’t help but assume that there will be PS5’s sold in-store. I remember thinking how prepare I was for online pre-orders. Getting the email from Sony. Registering to be added to some list. Waiting to be notified ahead of the orders going live. That did not go as planned.

    So, as much as I support the idea behind this, my gut tells me they will be sold in-stores. There will be people posting pictures of PS5’s on store shelves and flippers buying them two at a time just to sell them online.

    At this point, I just want a PS5. I know there are many factors at play. I know it’s not an easy fix. But does it need to be this hard or complicated?

    Sony just guaranteed that scalpers will resell the PS5 for big bucks thanks to retailers lame bot protection. I’m sure you made the Christmas. Losers

    This is clearly a liability stunt for them to play the we care card it’s up to the retailers to how they release them and some in my area are doing online and some are doing first come first serve early bird get the worm according to the places I just talked to

    Sony!!!! Screwed up this pre-order launch. You should have allowed your loyal customer to pre-pay months ago so that the bots and vultures grab all the available units and change over priced fee….. Your leadership is deplorable…… Sony you dropped the ball.

    Here in Southafrica I went to the top retailers and they all shrugged their shoulders saying Sony promised us stock but it might come early 2021.I am buying Xbox Series X because its available. See you at PlayStation 6. While I understand there’s an ongoing pandemic the way you’ve made this product unnecessarily scarce brought me to this decision. Thank you Jim Ryan.

    Why is Sony not trying to do a better job fighting scalpers and bots grabbing all the pre orders. If I have a PS ID and a payment method tied to it i should easily be able to pre order and just limit one order per psn ID-address-payment method. At a minimum make launch day order online and pick up at store.

    Well, that’s dope. But y’all gotta limit the number of orders that can an individual orders. Like you gotta limit to just one cuz people be buying 5 ps5 then sell them higher to other people. One order per person would be helpful for now. Thanks for caring about our safety tho.

    This is not gonna go well..you got scalpers that have there bots ready to take every console…why do something as terrible as online orders only? Plus the web will start crashing you know this Sony.you know this..why not do right by your fans. instead you are making us fight our way through the web to try to get a ps5..👎👎

    This is lame but ultimately its up to the retailers, like from wat sony is trying to say is u order ur console online from a retailers website and it ship to ur house which is stupid, because the same thing goin to happen again jus like the preorders, or do we order them online and pick them up at the retailers which makes more sense, nothing being explains about how to do this from sony, so jus call ur retailer stores and find out.

    Between purchasing a PS5 and a Geforce 3080 card, marketing this year sure is weird. Nobody can seem to get any of these new electronics. It’s been ridiculous. How long do we have to wait for it to arrive? At what time on the 12th does this thing go on sale? Are you going to make us sit there with our nose at the screen all night?

    Sony should have let us do the pre-order in our Playstation stores, limit 1 console per PSN account/IP address. My husband and I tried to pre-order multiple times beforehand and all we got was: you will be notified when we start sales. We never got anything. Then we saw they would start sales on a Thursday. On Wednesday the whole stock for pre-orders ran out and is still out. Great job in prioritizing your costumers.

    I haven’t done a pre-order of ps5. I live in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 when pre orders came up in September,we only have one store that is Best buy.And when it open they say that it was sould out already,the thing is that it only pass 15mnts. since the store open,later we found out that the employees took them.please we need more store”s that can sell ps5. We have Wallmart,Sam”s club,Cotsco and Best Buy.
    Please we need those New Generation in our hands.

    SONY, could you please confirm IGN Italy revelation that PS5 won’t support 1440 resolution? This sounds like a huge news for so many players who either own or like me have just purchased 1440p monitor. Thank you.

    I have mine pre-ordered at my local gamestop. Just paid it off in full today. Thank you Sony/PlayStation! I’m so worried about some angry customer trying to take my console when I leave the store. Especially with the societal tension in America right now.

    I just want to pick up my pre-order in peace without any hassle.

    Why are you limiting how many people can get your system. I find this a huge fault in your system Launch. I’ve got every new PlayStation on launch and all is sold out this is bull crap… yeah PlayStation limitless??? More like limited…. I’m really upset that I’m not getting the ps5 on launch because of stupid preorders
