Hi everyone — we’re happy to announce the PS4 Plus games for April. Pilot a warship escaping from a dying star in Dead Star or survive a zombie-infested London in Zombi on PS4.

First up we have Dead Star, a team-based shooter with RPG influence that we are excited to have launch as a Plus game. Dreamed up by the folks at Armature Studio (Founded by key members of the Metroid Prime team!), Dead Star is the result of a “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” process that started with a space shooter foundation and includes elements of strategy and MOBA-like titles.

The result is a 20-player online experience that’s easy to pick up and play, but also offers a great deal of depth (skill trees, ship upgrades, team strategy, and more). Dead Star has been a big hit at shows like PlayStation Experience and PAX South where players are finding something really special.

The second PS4 game this month is Zombi, a first-person survival-horror experience. Zombi really was at the forefront of the resurgence we’ve seen in recent years of genuine survival-horror games. The London setting combined with well-paced gameplay sets Zombi apart from more action-oriented titles. Add in the extra challenge of permadeath and it’s easy to see why this game became a cult hit.

In the last several years we’ve seen a lot of experimentation with the blending of genres. This month’s PS4 titles are shining examples of the kinds of mashups that create a lot of rich and layered gaming experiences.

So, in addition to your opinions on this month’s PS Plus titles, I’d also like to hear about your thoughts on game genres, what you find appealing, and why.

    How about 1 AAA game. Injustice and … Xbox live is blowing sony away with the free games. Honestly don’t mind the indies, but once every couple of months a established title would be amazing.

    Another month of phoning it in with ****** games that aren’t even worth a download. I’m rooting for Microsoft now because I’m pretty sure an XBone resurgence is the only way we’re going to get good PS+ games.

    Zombi looks interesting. Might keep me busy until Dark Souls 3 debuts. Speaking of, it’s dumb decision to release it a month away. U.S. XB1 owners can bypass the release date by buying the JP version and MS had stated they don’t care. We are a month behind!

    I’m actually pretty happy. I’ve gotten what I’d consider to be my money’s worth from titles in the past and am currently looking forward to zombi and I am alive which I was just thinking about the other day. I always groan and look at the line up for games I recognize but sometimes I play games I’d have never considered otherwise which works too. It’s not perfect but nothing is. Thanks Sony.

    MORE space and quirky aminal SHMUPS? Good God, it never ends, does it? This month is a no go for renewing plus for me. Hasn’t really been worth it for a while now.

    That’s fine though, Ratchet and Clank is coming out so it’s fine. I expect these types of lineups till June or July.

    Lol!!! If you little wieners want Infamous Second Son, Knack, or Tekken etc., I have an idea for you: BUY THEM! They aren’t even expensive. You’re seriously sitting around waiting for a PS4 launch title for free? Like 2 years? Infamous is $14.99 here in Canada brand new. Go open a lemonade stand. Anyways, these are awesome. I was about to buy Zombi last week but chose Salt and Sanctuary so double score for me here.

    Pretty good month. Too many people whining as usual. Zombi is great. I like the PS4 version better than Zombi U honestly. Sadly, I already own all but one game this month. :(

    Whatever happened to the triple A titles we used to get. There hasn’t been a great PS plus game since December. Xbox is killing PlayStation with their free games

    This is a great lineup! I personally would like to see some rpgs, be they western rpgs, jrpgs, or arpgs. In general, anything with real substance that players can sink their teeth into.

    Awesome? Really? Awesome? Awesome were the early days of Playstation Plus, when Sony was doing everything they could to outdo Microsoft by giving us a few triple-A titles quite often to download for “free”. But ever since the PS4’s release, making PS+ mandatory for online play in the process, and it’s staying in the lead of the console war with Microsoft, PS+ has given us garbage. If you think these games are great, or “awesome”, then good for you, but long time PS+ subscribers know how much the service has degraded.

      I completely agree, the golden age of plus was great. Discovered many great games thanks to the IGC back then. It really is unfortunate that nowadays we mostly get indie garbage. There are great indies too (Rocket League as an example), but they are far and few between. Most of the games really are just shovelware.

    I haven’t been in the same city as my ps4 for about a year now, knowing this would happen I bought a vita to fill the gap. The vita has become my primary gaming platform and as a vita owner I genuinely feel abandoned by Sony.
    People complain about the ps4 titles while vita owners are pretty much being given browser games each month.
    I’m not saying these aren’t decent games, it’s just not worth the cost of psplus anymore.
    As a vita owner Sony has cheated me.

    Seriously again? Since I renewed my subscription 4 months ago I haven’t downloaded a single free game and won’t be downloading one this month either. I want my money back.

      that’s why I recommend you go monthly, unless your strictly and online gamer. That’s what I do, that way I only pay for what content I want? Or buy a $60.00 around the holidays? I got PS plus so I could play the Hitman beta, downloaded and tried Broforce and the other game. Didn’t care for either of them. So because of that, I go monthly.

    While I agree the lineup could be stronger this month, glad to see a full AAA release this month with zombi and not just all Indies as has been par for the course for the past several months. Zombi will be a definite download as it looks like a good game and I’ve not played yet. Sony needs to sweeten the pot… Consistently if they keep wanting my money when it comes to PS+.

    Disappointing. Been a long time supporter and had plus since it launched (the PS3 IGC was wonderful), but seriously would have stopped renewing by now if I did not need it to play online.

    Once more, I have zero interest in this month’s games.

    Is it just me or are the PS+ games getting worse? Used to be a lot of first party stuff, now it’s tired 2 year old games like Zombi?

    I would love to see some Jrpgs or older AAA titles instead of mediocre indie games and tired rehashes like Zombi. last few months have been mediocre to bad.

    Look im tired of seeing everyone post all this crap about indie games theyre fun yeah it’d be nice if they gave games like infamous but get over it you paying for ps plus and thats all sony needs i pay monthly just to be safe so i have no reason to complain ps4 is amazing as is wii u and xbone i enjoy triple a titles from xbox but also love things like bro force and for ppl saying ps3 got games xbox one puts out its irrelivent good gamesare good games and people are begging sony to do the same with ps4 so whats that tell you while you bash xbox for doing it? i love both i play both and will continue to support both and if ps+ is really so bad just cancel your subscription or buy monthly like i do btw im looking forward to ff7 remake and dissidia for p4 best exclusives yet

    I feel by the other comments made that im the only one here with a ps4, ps3 and vita. Im happy zombi is in this month. I was considering buying it. I am alive is a great game too. Bit annoyed at the vita games though. Sony continues to try and kill the vita. Please give us a metal gear game for vita. Hd or peacewalker. At least this month was an improvement on last month :)

    Finally! were getting an “actual game” or triple A title on PS4, and it’s about time! I really don’t care for these “indie titles” that we have gotten in the past. Mostly because they remind me of knock of games I played as a kid. I really hope PS4 keeps this trend up? Because IF they do, I might subscribe to PS plus more often? Being a *die hard zombie fan* I’m looking forward to Zombi next month;) Peace Out!

    Please PS start iving up free games that are not indie games , I am PS guy all the way , but man really xbox is giving some real good games on monthly basis vs PS4 indie games. PS plus used to have tons of awesome games not simply indie games that nobody will buy anyway.
    If you will give indie games why not Salt and Sanctuary or something really awesome!

    I don’t see myself playing any of these games but that’s what I expected. I only renewed ps+ for my son so he can play PvZ GW online. I will say this though, Soul Sacrfice was the best game I ever played because of ps+.

    Deadstar might be alright, although it looks like just another space shmup. Maybe the multiplayer aspect will be interesting enough to last a few hours. I’m just fed up with the Vita shovelware. There hasn’t been a single good vita game offered on + this year. Nova-111 didn’t even run on my Vita. They gave us a broken game? I just don’t understand, there are so many good vita games out there, JRPG’s, indies from past spring fever sales, virtual novels, and yet they give us a… local multiplayer fish themed shmup and a crappy indie “action puzzler” which has a 65 on Metacritic. How are we going to play local multiplayer on the vita?

    To all you complainers: i hate to say this but suck it up. PS+ has given out games thts otaled (even used) way past the $50 you pay yearly, even if its some good indies or ****** indies, they still post up stuff for every system, I dont know about you folks but i more then quadrupled my $50 a year (owning ps3 ps4 and vita) so i dont see what the complaint is, yes, i wish they would release some better games. Granted hey could do better, BUT unlike the lot of you fools. i am happy with what i get, a free game is a free game, even if yo just add it to your repitroar of games. add it to library for ps4, get bored of playing the games you have, try one of the ones you HAVENT played. any true GAMER any true HARDCORE gamer, would play any game good or bad, beat it, complete it and be happy,, note that happy doesnt always mean satisfied. so pull up your panties and get that knot out of your pants and start acting like the gamers you claim to be!

    This is a GOOD list. Dead Star looks really interesting, but Zombi, Savage Moon (a forgotten Playstation game!), and A Virus Named Tom have all crossed my “do want” list. Excited for next Tuesday!

    Going by the comments, I can recognise that this isn’t the worst month. So at least some people are happy. But there isn’t anything for me here. Dead Star = shooter. Zombi = survival shooter, I Am Alive = you see where I’m going with this? “I’d also like to hear about your thoughts on game genres” Clearly. I mean, going by what is put together here most months its clear to see you guys know only know of the existence of 1 or 2. In a word: VARIETY. Put some people in the room who don’t play the same damn thing -_-

      Dead Star, PS4 – Twin Stick Shooter
      Zombi, PS4 – First Person Shooter
      I Am Alive, PS3 – Third Person Adventure (Shooter)
      Savage Moon, PS3 – Tower Defense Strategy
      Shutshimi, PS Vita – Arcade Shooter (left to right)
      A Virus Named Tom, PS Vita – Puzzle

      Out of those genres, Arcade Shooter and Twin Stick Shooter are quite similar, the rest of them are vastly different.

      That said, they could improve in the quality of the games, at this time they should probably give:
      3 Ps4 games each month, two indies and one from a major publisher.
      1 Ps3 game, alternating high and low profile, most of the good games on ps3 were already given or are still selling well.
      1 psvita game, improve overall quality, there must be better vita games.
      1 ps or ps2 classic game (that works both on vita and ps3) as those are not that expensive.

    I’ll say this for Xbox: their customers are far more critical of the platform, and it’s making for a better product. Every month I look at the PS+ lineup and I look through the comments, and while there are consistently people voicing their displeasure, there are far more people shouting at them to stop complaining.

    Look at both systems now compared to where they were at launch. The PS4 still has and, barring a mid-generation upgrade, always will have the raw horsepower advantage, but in every other way, the Xbox has absolutely blown past Sony. Whether it’s as simple as a UI overhaul and introducing EA Access, or as substantial as adding backwards compatibility, Xbox under Phil Spencer has been consistently improving. Now there’s talk of introducing game sharing and early discussion about the ability to resell digital games. In the same time, Sony has introduced a hilariously overpriced game streaming service and… streaming TV?

    It hasn’t been all that long since Microsoft showed how bad it can be when a company thinks its customers will swallow whatever tripe they’re fed. By all means, keep blindly supporting any and everything Sony does, just don’t be surprised when they reward that devotion by screwing you over.

    Like many I also bought into the hype when ps 4 came out and I bought it. I previously owned 360 but I really liked what ps 3 had with its ps plus. But after a year of having ps 4 I was mostly unhappy with how everything was done and I decided to buy Xbox One as soon as they announced BC. Now I have both and in terms of getting your money worth, for me Xbox blows Ps 4 completly out of the water.
    GwG are ten times better than Ps Plus games which are utter joke. In two years I only liked Transistor, MGS Ground Zeroes and Infamous First Light while on Xbox one I can now replay games like Dirt 3, Deus Ex and soon Dead Space…
    You can also connect external HDD to Xbox One
    With how much money Sony is getting from all the subscribers its a complete joke that they cant make a better lineup at least every second month for PS Plus. And PS Now is a slap in the face to everyvone. If you can stream PS 3 games on PS 4 why not make it free for those gamers that already bought digital PS 3 games before instead of charging them for playing games they already own.

    I loved savage moon i got all the dlc for but on ps4 end games suck this month just like every month glad i went down from one yr sub to three month sub . But ppl complaining theirs other uses for ps plus like discounts on games and also on movies,tv shows some of which are free with plus (powers) not to mention they give you discounts with plus with ps vue with stand alone channels so its not all negative except on the free games end everything else is stellar for what you get with ps plus

    My brother has Xbox One and the free games they have every month are amazing. Alot of AAA games are free on there. I consider PS4 to be the superior brand but they win hands down every month.
