PlayStation Plus: Free Games for April 2016

Hi everyone — we’re happy to announce the PS4 Plus games for April. Pilot a warship escaping from a dying star in Dead Star or survive a zombie-infested London in Zombi on PS4.

First up we have Dead Star, a team-based shooter with RPG influence that we are excited to have launch as a Plus game. Dreamed up by the folks at Armature Studio (Founded by key members of the Metroid Prime team!), Dead Star is the result of a “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” process that started with a space shooter foundation and includes elements of strategy and MOBA-like titles.

The result is a 20-player online experience that’s easy to pick up and play, but also offers a great deal of depth (skill trees, ship upgrades, team strategy, and more). Dead Star has been a big hit at shows like PlayStation Experience and PAX South where players are finding something really special.

The second PS4 game this month is Zombi, a first-person survival-horror experience. Zombi really was at the forefront of the resurgence we’ve seen in recent years of genuine survival-horror games. The London setting combined with well-paced gameplay sets Zombi apart from more action-oriented titles. Add in the extra challenge of permadeath and it’s easy to see why this game became a cult hit.

In the last several years we’ve seen a lot of experimentation with the blending of genres. This month’s PS4 titles are shining examples of the kinds of mashups that create a lot of rich and layered gaming experiences.

So, in addition to your opinions on this month’s PS Plus titles, I’d also like to hear about your thoughts on game genres, what you find appealing, and why.

I don’t get what’s so great about the free Xbox games this month.

Sunset Overdrive- A ****** Infamous rip that tries desperately to be sarcastically funny and cool, but ends up just pointing at things and hoping you laugh.

Dead Space- Are you ****ing kidding? Dead Space? Like the first one? Dead Space is not a relevant game anymore; yes it’s good, but if you haven’t played it by now then you probably aren’t interested in it.

Saints Row 4- A **** story, **** gameplay, **** humour, the same map as the previous game, a car system improvement made completely pointless by the addition of superpowers,god awful DLC. I could keep going, but then I’d have a ten page essay on the ****ness of Saints Row 4.

The wolf among us- I haven’t played this so I don’t have any complaints about it, but I tend to dislike episodic games so it’s probably not for me.

As for the PS Plus stuff I’ve played I am alive and I have no memory of it so I have to assume it was really boring, but apart from Zombi I have never heard of any of these games before, and that excites me.

Sony is laughing at us…. this is a Joke…. Keep throwing more indie games at our face. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Indie games, but come on, every single month this kind of games and sometimes some crap to fill in…

Bad move Sony, really bad move, U have enough old AA titles to give for free and keep your CUSTOMERS, yes, because people that pay for your service are CUSTOMERS, happy at least twice a month.

For me, Im not renewing my Plus membership, idgaf about online, I just feel insulted by the way you treat your customers, and that Sony, that is really bad business strategy.

It’s quite obvious how Sony was approaching PS Plus. First when they introduced it they offered a lot of triple A games. Then when the PS4 game out they tied PS Plus and online multiplayer together and started to offer more and more cheaper indie games. Now as you may have noticed they only show the PS4 games in the video preparing us to get used to the idea that the free games will soon only be 2 PS4 games. At this point i only have PS Plus to have access to multiplayer but i rarely download any games anymore.

I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that there are so many entitled little whiners out there. Please stop giving us, the gamers, a bad name and start using your noggin.

You pay $49.99 once a YEAR. I repeat, you pay 50 bucks ONCE PER YEAR.

With it, you get online multiplayer access on PS4, automatic updates and cloud saves on all current PS consoles. Then there are the games. You aren’t expected to like every single game in the lineup, but how about you do what I do.

Once you hand over the “incredibly massive sum of $49.99” to Sony, take note of all of the games that you get thereafter.

Look up their prices on PSN and the moment you reach 50 dollars worth of games, realize that everything else is given to you absolutely free of charge.

The total value of the games we have received this year (January – April 2016) on all 3 consoles is $463,23. Due to post length limitations, you gotta look up the games on your own. Complete list is available in Wiki.

You are obviously much better off, if you have at least 2 of the 3 consoles, but even with just one of the 3, you are not even close to paying enough to complain about the service.

This is TERRIBLE! I know we can’t complain about “Free” games, but these awful indie shooters being rolled out each month has got to stop. They are awful games and I’m sure with a bit more looking and arm twisting Sony can find better games for the Vita and PS3

Really. Most of the free games for PS4 have kinda sucked. I am alive was good on PS3. Looking forward to trying Zombi. Honestly though PS plus is cheap and I need it for Black Ops multiplayer anyways. The free games are just an added bonus

A good low-budget indy game is fun, but after a few years of it, I’m a bit sick of ’em. I mean, I can’t count how many asteroids clones and pixelated platformers are out there.

  I think we’re well beyond the point that these games can be considered free. It is now an expectation–for both the PlayStation Plus service, and its competitors–that we receive a monthly drop of downloadable games. It is the new standard, and is expected to be included in our subscription fee.
  
  Sony has had some great offerings in the past, but this month, I find the lineup lacking by comparison to Microsoft’s offerings. Indie games simply don’t hold the same clout as AAA titles in the eyes of the average gamer. It is unreasonable to expect a AAA offering month to month, but none, ever, is also not a good idea. It’s time that Sony step up its game, rather than resting on its laurels.

So you whiny, entitled crybabies continue to slam indie games, yet you continue to beg for garbage such as COD, the later Assassin’s Creed games, and so forth. You so-called ‘gamers’ really sicken me. I’m all for indie games, as long as they’re well created and not look like they were slapped on in a few hours to a couple of days or weeks. If you want indie games done wrong, look at some of the Early Access titles on Steam that are either delayed for a long period of time or are completely abandoned. Sorry, but I just had to get it off my chest.

I can do a quick search and pull up at least twice it was on sale since October. Also, I didn’t specify if it was on sale in the US only either. Again, do your research before you type something you are completely off base about.

Who said anything about me leaving it un-played? I certainly didn’t, nor did I complain about it being free. Also, who are you to say I don’t get pity or have the right to complain? If you don’t like what I have to say, don’t read it and certainly don’t type misinformation based on your own ignorance.

I now feel sorry for Sony. For over a year it has been the constant drum beating, requesting a AAA title free via PS Plus. Sony finally delivers with Zombi (or ZombiU for those unfamiliar with the title) and yet the comment section is still filled with cries for a AAA game. Unreal.

Well anyway, kudos to Sony this month. I’m digging the Zombi addition.

Wouldn’t exactly say “Sony finally delivers with Zombi”. It got 7/10 on most of its reviews….nothing amazing. Sony did accomplish one thing….it’s the first recognizable title on the IGC in months.

Every month, the Sony corporate trolls always say “the games are free, stop complaining!” For the millionth time, the games are NOT free. PS Plus costs $49.99 a year. When I used to have it, it was not for online play…it was for the THEN-decent monthly IGC lineup.

NOW, to everyone but the most blinded gamer, the monthly IGC lineup is filled with bargain basement titles.

Anyone who is regularly satisfied by these garbage titles? I would seriously question their intelligence, not to mention their taste in gaming.

I have to admit that this month’s lineup is good because we’ve got zombi and I’m happy to try and it also has platinum…dead star isn’t good game for me but it’s free…you can’t except AAA titles because it wouldn’t have any sense and also you can’t expect from Sony to give games like xbox…Xbox is giving great games because Sony is better and they are making more money…cheers and add me on psn…

I will agree with you on one thing, we are all entitled to our own opinions. However, when your opinion is based on an assumption of me playing a game or buying a game, you are incorrect with that thought process. That is like me saying that you have no idea what you are talking or don’t have the right to say anything about Sony because you don’t subscribe to PS Plus or own a PS4. That would incorrect on my part because I don’t know you. You blindly took a statement of mine and made an opinion based on an assumption without actually getting factual information first or even asking me about my post. In that aspect, you are wrong.

Look I’ve always been Playstation. Bought my first psone in 1997.. But this ps plus membership is getting to be garbage. I’m good with getting indie games and these half așs games every now and then. But this every damn month thing is ridiculous. We used to get AAA titles too. Look at everything we got for ps3 and now you guys are go here valiantly defending the freebie nerf?

No wonder we don’t get anymore Ana’s because you guys are too attached to SONYs nuts for any dissent to be heard.

You know what, Sony? I think you should just drop this whole free game thing and invest in the cheese industry. That way you can give that away to those that keep bringing the WHINE!

If you’re a Plus member because you play multiplayer then you’re supporting the servers that give you that function. If you don’t play multiplayer games and you don’t like the free games offered then don’t become a Plus member. It’s that simple, folks. And just in case you didn’t know, Sony does in fact pay developers in order to offer up their games for free. The more popular the game and if said game is still making good money, the more money Sony has to pay up.

So, please, PLEASE! Stop whining about your $4.16 a month!

Microsoft and Sony are the two leading companies who does consoles. so when Microsoft is giving great games for free and sony is giving indies the sony fans are going to start seeing that Xbox is looking kinda good and want to jump on that badwagon.

Is it that hard to realease one or 2 good AAA titles?I mean,there are some amazing AAA games that are 2,maybe 3 year’s old,like Infamous:Second Son or DA:Inquistion or Shadow of Mordor.This indie games are starting to be a real annoyance.I don’t mind having an Indie game every month,hell I enjoyed playing Broforce coop and trying Super Meat Boy and Helldivers,and that I wanna play Zombi with a party full of friends,but I can’t pretend I don’t envy the GWG guys this month.Just a thought.I wish May will bring up at least 1 major AAA game.Hopefully :)

I downloaded I AM ALIVE for PS3 for free off PSN on March 1st, and added it to the list on Wikipedia personally, so I’m not super excited for…whatever sort of opportunity making it free two months in a row is supposed to afford me.

In my three months with PSN+ after picking up a PS3 I’ve gotten the Persona fighting game I was interested in (but need to pay $15 more for three of the playable characters ignoring all the outfits, glasses, background music, and such and $10 more to play the story mode of the original), a racing game with completely dead online, a Google Maps game featuring zombies, and have a tower defense game that would be a better fit for my phone than a console hooked up to a TV.

It’s pretty sad that not subscribing buying the Naughty Dog, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear games would have provided me more higher quality games, that I own permanently on my account, for the same or less money.

The PS3 does have some exclusives and good games people have actually heard of before that would be nice to see on PSN+. I didn’t think it was a paid for indie game discovery service when I signed up.

I paid a little over £40 for a subscription that gives me 24 games a year I’m happy about that. I wish some games made the cut but when you think about it asking for a AAA title every month that’s ßtil about £15 second hand is a bit much so be happy with what you get or go elsewhere really just my opinion

It’s a little better this time. I’ve been wanting to try zombi. I still think Sony can do a lot better for its loyal fans. I get they don’t want to lose money on giving out aaa and neither do the devs but there is aaa games that been out awhile now and they could hook us up. Ps3 ps plus is normally decent and Xbox is killing it right now. Especially with the backwards compatibility. It’s very tempting to switch sides. Sony rather milk us with the ridiculous ps now and ps2 games. Stuff people has already paid for. They could just turn it on for us and let us have at it. If your going to add ps plus games you should keep making them decent shooting and hack n slash games. Most people will be happy their not getting more 2d indies.

Ok so I joined PS+ finally in November after being jealous for years of all my PS friends having it and saying the great games you get with it etc, and there’s me not being able to afford it till November when I had saved up to get mt PS4, So heres me getting excited, I join PS+ and am ready to play some awesome games with my friends and be inundated with the great games that I know PlayStation used to give out….

Not impressed, Although I am looking forward in trying I am Alive and have seen some good vids on Zombi but I hate jump scares lol Vita games do not interest me as I don’y have it and Dead Star? Whats all the hype about? Its another 2D top down space shooter!

I will have to wait and see until November to see whether I re sub my PS+ or not. But I know my husband will be re subbing his Xbox Live and EA Access when the time comes.

Come on PlayStation I have been your fan girl in this household for years… Please don’t let me down…

Listen sony have sold over 30 million ps4s, at 300.00 a pop.So trust me it would not hurt them to give us some decent games.Zombi is a good game but for me i had it on wii u,people really are not happy with the **** games we get month after month. Xbox have sold 17 million consoles and look at the quality of the free games they give out.Im glad i own all of the consoles.But its really disapointing to see sony shafting us this way.We the gamers are the ones that put sony at the top so how about some love.Xbox one may not be as powerful but for me its the best console,microsoft have given gamers what they want.When was the last time sony listend to us.I cant remember the last time i was happy with a psplus line up.

Yet another line up of games I could careless about. A bunch if arcade games that are never the type of games I enjoy playing and then they try and say the Zombi game was a hit, that game was a flop. At least try and give us a Decent Zombie game, I’d rather Play RE 6 and it sucked.

Not a gr8 lineup but its good for kids who like to play such indie games, i like only AAA games to play that’s my choice, because i just love games who has beautiful graphics. thats why we have ps4, indie game scan also be played in ps vita and ps2 , then whats the point of playing such games on ps4.

Well I a generally concerned, I just got my PS4 I been a playstation fan for years. I was given a Xbox 360 and they almost always have great free games kind of unreal. They are older games but great titles. Yes some people have purchased some have not point is they make them free for who wants them. Great way to bring in customers. So when it came time for me to pick a system of course I went with PS4 it beats Xbox in almost every area with exception of backwards compatibility(another topic). I new they gave free games too I just figured they would stay competitive with Xbox. Now I have only had my system a month but very disappointed with free games. Also, they are not truly free its part of The subscription we pay for. If not it should of stayed free online access like PS3.
I do agree it might get better when system gets older as of for now I am right now regretting my decision of platforms. I own it now and just will pray they smarter and stay competitive and makes free game selection better over time. If not this will be a one year deal for me then I’m done. My only issue is some games like Darksouls need that online access so it limits you on a few games.
