Vote to Play Begins Thursday, Help Decide Next PS Plus Lineup

Today, we’re pleased to announce the games that will be part of Vote to Play — our special promotion that enables PlayStation Plus members to vote on one of three PlayStation 4 games for next month’s PS Plus game lineup. All three of these games would be a great addition to our lineup, and we want to put the choice in your hands when voting begins on Thursday, August 13th.

Without further ado, here are the games on the ballot.

Armello

A grim fairy-tale board game come to life, combining deep, tactical card play, rich tabletop strategy, and RPG elements. Set in a vibrant magical world with a tinge of darkness, Armello thrusts players into an epic struggle for power as they quest, scheme, explore, vanquish monsters, perform the mad king’s royal edicts, and face off against other players, with one ultimate end goal in mind — storming the palace and becoming King or Queen of Armello.

Grow Home

You play BUD (Botanical. Utility. Droid), a robot on a mission to find the Star Plant and save his planet. Discover a strange open-world: a planet of floating islands, with precipitous drops, caves and waterfalls to navigate, all rendered in a minimalist but beautiful art style. Grow the giant Star Plant and use your unique climbing abilities to reach ever higher ground, but be careful as you ascend because one wrong move and it’s a long way down!

Zombie Vikings

From the creators of last year’s indie hit Stick It to The Man! comes a new co-op, four-player stab-you-in-the-gut-a-thon with a dead-funny adventure. Hack through the boiling gingerbread swamps of Molgaga, take a cruise through the intestines of the Midgaard Serpent, fight giant troll poultry, and find out how Söccer was really invented.

Voting starts Thursday, August 13th at 8:30 AM Pacific (update: we are currently tracking for 10am Pacific Time) and ends Monday, August 24th, at 8:30 AM Pacific. The final result will be revealed after voting closes. If you’re a PS Plus member and you want to cast your vote, simply log on to PS4 with your PSN account, and access Vote to Play under “What’s New,” “Notifications,” or visit the PS Plus section of the PlayStation Store, where you’ll find details for Vote to Play.

The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our September free game lineup, and PlayStation Plus members can get the two runners-up at a discount. We can’t wait to see what PlayStation Plus members decide for September in our first Vote to Play event. We’ll have more events in the future, so stay tuned.

You can find more information about Vote to Play here, along with the benefits of being a PlayStation Plus member.

So tell us, what game are you planning to vote for?

  • Its really cool that we get to vote now. Armello looks awesome so im voting for it. But i’m definitely picking up grow home on the discounted price.

  • Sony- give us one game a month that is playable to many of us instead of two that are basically dollar Android titles, please??

I honestly miss PS Plus from before the PS4 launched, much better selection. What about a PS Plus Games option, as most of the titles I have gotten since the PS4 launch haven’t been touched. I would trade four of these titles for one Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and such.

    Thanks for listening?

  • Lot of trolls here, uh.

I’m not sure if i will vote for Armello or Zombie Vikings. If the discount is high enough, maybe I get two or even the three games =)

    • Please take a moment to look at both games, I voted for Armello and love the look of it so much that I’m hoping to help people make that choice :)

Take a look at their site for more information “http://armello.com/”

  • Why do I have this weird feeling like this is just a huge set up? Is it because Armello looks awesome and the other two games just look like really bad indy games that nobody would pay to play. OH let me oxygenate that planet for you, that sounds like fun. How about I just plant grass seeds and watch it grow for 72 hours real time. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Or let me play yet another unoriginal indy side scroller with zombies. SMH.

I’m excited to play Armello but it seems like you guys just gave us one good game and two things you scrapped out of the trash. Next time, make it good, make us pull our hair out trying to decide on 3 epic games. Because this is like picking between a brick of gold, a dirty jock strap, or a booger.

    • That’s your opinion. To me Armello is hand’s down the worst option on the list and looking at a ton of the comments it’s not looking to good for it.

    • @Nightdrifter really? Because I see plenty of people voting for Armello, and having been an alpha/beta tester with hands-on experience with it, I tend to believe its the best option. Although Grow Home also looks great, and it seems that one could win. Oh well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

    • The best thing we can do for Armello is spread the news of it everywhere else and try to get PS Plus voters to come to the PS Store and vote for it. We are lagging behind and really need a push to move it forward. Their web site has so much more information then the little clip gave us “http://armello.com/”

In any case I’m looking forward to seeing all the Armello voters in game :)

  • I definitely feel we need a none option because not everyone care’s for these indie title’s. The reason Sony is doing this poll is to get the feedback of the selections and making people either pick a game or not vote at all isn’t fair nor accurate. I would like to see a none option that maybe has a drop down list of potential PS+ games for the future where people can pick 1 and help determine a list before hand of what they get to pick to vote from.

But my vote is going to Grow Home since Armello look’s bland and boring and I’ll never find 4 people to experience the co-op with in Zombie Vikings and those game’s tend to be boring playing solo.

  • I like this voting feature, however if it’s the same indie title freebies that you can get on Android/iPhone, etc. I would prefer if Sony would give us at least a AAA game + the winner indie of the vote. I have not been satisfied with PS+ for my PS4 at all this year. I’m not a indie hater or anything, I liked the first indies at lunch, but then it was indie per month all of the time. I think the only AAA game that was good & it’s actually a DLC would be Infamous First Light. But this is just my opinion, sales once they realize Plus members are decreasing they’ll know, especially when they are even increasing plus subscriptions which I have no doubt it’ll happen here in the US as well. I’m not paying more than I am paying to still be unsatisfied. All I ask is to give us at least a single AAA game every month for the PS4.

    • So a little education here:

Now just focusing on the games and NOT counting the other features of PS+ such as online play, uploading saves to online storage, etc. here is what you pay for. (This is going under the assumption of a $50 1 year membership.)

      $50/12 months = $4.16 a month, $4.16/6 games = $0.69 per game a month

So more simple math shows it would take about 58 MONTHS to pay for a older AAA title costing about $40. Thats almost 5 YEARS!

Now more complicated math would show that every month you are a playstation + member you are actually paying LESS than $0.69 per game as you are paying to keep ALL other games from the months since you started your subscription. (again, not counting the other perks of PS+). That math would show that in almost an infinite amount of time your subscription would not pay for a $40 AAA game, or even a $20 indie game for that matter.

So stop being entitiled, your litterally getting games for pennies on the dollar. If you dont like it. Stop subscribing and use that $50 on a older AAA game and loose out on 72 games a year plus all of PS+ other perks. Check your privilege.

  • OMG!!!!!!!I bought PS4 to play this crap?????I’m not voting and not buying any of this garbage!!!!!Where are the real games???Right now i’m playing PS1 and PS2 games and my PS4 is collecting dust, there’s no point to turn it on!!!!

    • actually buying a game might help your case then.

    • I played everything already, there are NO games at the moment…waiting for Mad Max and MGS and ofcourse Fallout 4.I cant play this trash even for free…IndieStation 4 FTW!!!

  • Grow Home for me but honestly my input is more indies like ether one, outlast, axiom verge and everyone has gone to the rapture. More “mature” indies, please!

  • Does anyone know if Armello has local multiplayer?

    • Unfortunately it does not support hot-seat because there are tons of game mechanics that can be performed while it is not your turn, as well you wouldn’t want others to see your cards sometimes.

Anyway, if hot-seat is what you meant by local, that’s your answer. But I can assure you its an amazing game.

  • I loved stick it to the man, I hope we get Zombie Vikings :D

  • No more plus from her on I had to switch account. The other plus account comes with guilty gear xrd as free game. Now that whats value for money $60 game. Not this crap. Outlast and mercenary king was good but not the rest I played all the free game offered none interest me.

  • Armello or Grow Home…… Tough choice..

    • I would really like to see you choose Armello. “http://armello.com/”

Looks like a great game with tonnes of replay. Hoping to see you online :)

  • Dang Armello is hard not to choose because it’s different than the average game out there, might be real fun couch wars. But if I’m going to play a game alone mostly grow home takes the cake. Looks different than the average platformer. P.s. Ps ➕ Octodad? Lol looks funny if it’s never free guess I’ll have to buy on discount. Tough first round vote, thanx A lot Sony :p no but really thanx!

  • Armello

    • I feel the love as well for Armello but we all need to bring more voters to this game if we are going to have a chance at winning.

  • I vote for armello

  • All 3 of the games look charming but I am choosing “Viking Zombies” because it supports online coop. I will be able to play it with my friends since everyone will download it. Just like Rocket League, this game could be a huge phenomenon, as long as gameplay is solid.
The other two games are more specific and not suited for general audience. So fans of those genres could go ahead and buy them at a discounted rate anyway. (I may purchase Armello for instance)

  • I’m pretty disappointed in these choices. I’m not hating on indy games. I like many of them. These just don’t really look fun to me. Maybe zombie game will be ok so I’ll vote for that but my hopes are really low. I’ve been very disappointed by most ps4 games we got so far other than injustice, infamous, and rocket league. Been a member since November. PS3 games haven’t been nearly as bad but thats been out much longer and I got rid of ps3 to buy ps4 :/

  • I’ve been waiting for Armello to come out and be released for a long time now, ever since I first learned about the title a couple of years ago. I’m excited to see it on the PSN, and even if it doesn’t win “Game of the Month”, I’ll still be buying. I’d rather have it for free though… so vote Armello!!!

    • I agree.
I had been contemplating getting Armello for the PC but the idea that I could play it on my PS4 thrills me. If we want a large player base we need to make sure many players know about this game, and having it for free would be the frosting on the cake.
Spread the news. Post it on social media. Bring your online friends to vote for it

Lots of information on their site “http://armello.com/”

  • I vote for Grow home

  • Hmm, I’m torn between Armello and Grow Home, the later seems like fun but it lacks the depth of Armello and can be bought for cheap on a steam sale, Armello is also on steam but its price is higher, so my vote will go for Armello (I don’t hate Zombie Vikings or anything but i have many similar games, Scott Pilgrim, Castle Crashers and Dragon’s Crown).

And I’m also surprised at the number of indie-games haters, seriously guys, i have been playing games since the Atari and i have respect for both indie games and AAA titles (some AAA are even bad compared to amazing indies like Darkest Dungeon), calling those indie games “trash” is not only disrespectful to the devs it’s also disrespectful to the fans of these game and just you being a troll, that’s not an opinion it’s a childish insult that’s uncalled for.

As for the entitled kids who want AAA games every month or want them among the voted games for PS4, not going to happen any time soon, PS4 doesn’t have enough AAA titles yet for this to happen, that’s why most free Plus AAA games are for the PS3 since it has a huge library, also asking for two AAA games per month (plus all the indie games) for 4$ is you being unrealistic and an entitled brat.

    Have a nice day.

    • Please vote for Armello.
We don’t have enough of these types of games on the PS4. So may of the fighting and platform games that we miss out on the jewels like these that have strategy and can be played over and over. If you choose to vote for it, please spread the word to others so we might be able to get more votes from the people who aren’t aware. Great info on their site “http://armello.com/”

  • Guess we`ll choose always from 3 stupid to little less stupid games and they will give us one more less stupid game and that`s the way PS+ is going to bee…… little less stupid… When I bought 12m PS+ membership i thought that I will get at least 3 AAA games (older but good) and few good Indie games….well I was wrong…shame on me!

    • So a little education here:

Now just focusing on the games and NOT counting the other features of PS+ such as online play, uploading saves to online storage, etc. here is what you pay for. (This is going under the assumption of a $50 1 year membership.)

  • Playstation Plus users are too entitled and expect every month to have a $60 game given out for free, utterly ridiculous.

The whole PS+ indie games need to be promoted better, none of these games appeal to me but I’m not entirely bothered, the PS4 games are a bonus as PS+ is REQUIRED to play online.

For the PS3 and Vita on the other hand, these need to have AAA titles to give the customer their money’s worth as PS+ ISN’T REQUIRED in order to play online, it is a service on those devices and I expect better than most months we’ve had.

August’s PS+ games were (for the most part) great as we had GOW: Ascension, that Lara Croft game, Limbo and Stealth Inc 2. Now there I mentioned 2 indie games (well, Limbo is so mainstream it might as well not be indie) but they’re established good games that have a good rep, throwing in 3 random games most people won’t know anything about won’t help the voting system.

Get games people have heard of, are interested in and would be happy to vote for.

    • “Playstation Plus users are too entitled and expect every month to have a $60 game given out for free, utterly ridiculous.”

you know that prices decay with time, right? a game might launch at $60, but it isn’t a $60 game anymore a year after launch.

  • @ViolatedMinds Why would PS3 + need to have AAA titles and PS4 + no….I don`t care for online so I dont need it, I payed good money and want good games for it that is all. I dont expect every month AAA game…but not ONE in 8-10 months!?!?! that is offensive!!! So you cant sell many indie games so lets make profit with this…no thanks.People from Sony need to get serious with + or they will have less and less members…

    • @hyena

you’re making the false assumption that sony pays msrp for these games. they are without question paying a negotiated rate which is far lower that what we would pay.

they are buying millions of copies of the game, so they are getting deep discounts for buying in bulk.

    • @Reaper527_

Did i say i was calculating Sony’s value for these games? Let me read over my messege…. hmmm…. nope. Of course theyre paying less or else they would be bankrupt. Im stating how much value it is for us as the consumer compared to if everything was bought separately at time of offer. Now are you going to like every game? no, but that doesnt decrese what was OFFERED to you. That plus all of PS+ other perks make it a rediculous deal. Can you still be dissapointed with the selection? sure, i dont have a probkem with that. But to act like you are ENTITLED to a AAA game is rediculous when you do the math. Again, sir, Check your privledge.

  • Vote for Armello

    • Spread the news and lets try to get many more votes for Armello!
Looking forward to playing online with you, but it would be fantastic to have it as a free game and get many more players :)

      “http://armello.com/” FTW

Lets bump Amello into first place

  • Zombie Vikings
    Zombie Vikings
    Zombie Vikings

  • Why does it say on the main page of your website that voting begins on the 11th of August and here you state it starts at the 13th. I’ve been looking for a way to vote for more than an hour!

  • Grow home looks like the best game in my eyes I I’ll be voting for that hopefully it comes free.

  • I vote for Grow Home

  • Im voting for viking warriors it looks cool and its online and offline coop

  • It’s amazing how many come here to say “I’m not interested”. Obviously you ARE interested, interested enough to moan and whine. Why in the world would anyone have a vote system and include a “none of the above” option when all three get placed? And for those letting us know they won’t be renewing/joining PS+…then this post isn’t for you so should we have a “Not interested” option to vote your comments off?

Anyway, I’d love to see Armello win this one out. We should push and support the games that are a bit out of the mainstream.

PS: Plus (see what I did there?), I love strategy games.

    • maybe that could be a great approach for Sony’s research. Add the “not interested” and see if their indie flood surpasses the “not interested”.

    • Looking forward to playing online with so many strategy enthusiast. Try and spread the news of Armello so we can get possibly get more PS Plus voters to submit their votes in the PS Store.

Maybe a fourth option should be put into the list for some people “None of the above” just to get a feel for what people want.

Personally I can’t wait to play Armello “http://armello.com/”

  • How about let’s have a vote for the people that wish Sony would work on PSN issues.

  • Let’s have a vote for Sony to stop giving updates for useless features no one cares about.

  • Let’s have a vote for ps4 owners that wish they never purchased it.

  • Let’s have a vote for ps4 owners that own an Xbox one and will continue to use it until Sony gets a clue of wha to do about the horrible service of psn

  • I’m hoping for armello it kinda reminds me of playing age of empires series

    • Koei Tecmo is bringing out Nobunaga’s Ambition Sphere of Influence next month i’m so amped for it.

    • I’m hoping for Armello as well, and if you can post it to your Social media sites to help promote it and maybe get some more PS Plus members to vote for it. It is sadly behind the other two choices at the moment and we need some more people to jump in and vote.

Give them the Armello website for additional information “http://armello.com/” and hopefully we can get more voters on our side :)

  • Zombies Vikings !

  • This may be an ignorant question, but normally they do four games total. Does this mean that there will still be three other titles that aren’t part of the vote-to-play model?

  • I’d go with the armello,
it didnt really show any gameplay of grow home, and a side scrolling hack n slash zombie game will have me bored pretty quick.

    • I totally agree with you. We need more of these sort of strategy games on PS4 and if we can give people on the fence more information maybe we can swing the vote and at the same time gather a large player base to pull from for online multiplayer sessions of Armello.

Post it everywhere you are to bring attention to it :)

  • My vote is going for Grow Home!

  • I’m dismayed that my civil comment in regards to disappointment in the fact that no launch titles such as Need for Speed Rivals, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, or even Knack made the list for the vote just ‘disappeared.’ 3 Indies is not much of a vote. It makes it look like there’s a legitimate fear of indie titles getting buried by even the most mediocre major release.

    • Actually in terms of quality these 3 indie titles seem to all be pretty good. I’d be even more disappointed if I got knack since in terms of quality and even game value, I think these are all better. I think this complaint is more valid when the choices are all boring redundant things or “games” with an hour of play value. That and the games you listed you can pick up for 20 dollars or in the bargain bin these days anyway. I’d actually rather have new games that are just released that I am interested in. :D

  • All of them look promising. But I’m going to go with Armello. Quick question, how will they decide what the second free game for plus is each month?

    • Maybe it will be the top two games of the vote? Or maybe they already have one game selected and need a user choice for the second one?

Either way getting Armello for free would be great. Spread the word. Lets get more votes for a fantastic looking game “http://armello.com/”

Hope to see all the Armello players online :)

  • If you’re not voting for Grow Home, you’re making a huge mistake.

  • @Dalivus Either that or indie titles are just superior to major titles. That’s been my attitude for years now, in no small part influenced by how everything I liked in gaming was buried under crappy shooters and games like uncharted and infamous after the 5th generation of gaming. ;v

Considering the non-mainstream still have to contend with aforementioned crappy games dominating the market and blotting out pretty much everything else every time there’s a major convention, I think it’s a legitimate fear either way. It’s pretty well-known most major games appeal to the LCD and any game that isn’t doing that is going to face a lot of adversity. Anything done to even the playing field is a good thing IMO.

    • What sort of pathetic person judges themselves, or others, based on the games they play? You’re part of the problem. It’s especially ironic, given that you’re voting for the most uninspired and generic game up for vote. And since when is Infamous classified as a shooter? If you’re going to attempt to insult something, you might at least consider checking your facts – lest you show how unfamiliar with the subject you are.

  • All great games but if I had to chose, Grow Home. I have only heard great things about it.

  • I really like that you’re allowing us to vote. I’d choose Zombie Vikings. I hope you guys continue this with the other games we get from PS PLUS.

  • First Aug free games were good picks….all games i thought about buying (while on sale only) but decided not to…. so good job to Sony…not super impressed with Tomb Raider and some of them after playing but still all fair full games with some story or interesting ideas…..
As for voting wish it was a full vote of all games (normal 4-6) pick vita options etc big between top tier game like this months Tomb Raider.not just the bottom tier which this seems like were voting for the 6th game or the throw in ps4 game….so 2nd or 3rd game.the discount for second is probably the best part.
Honestly more interested on when voting ends, and when game list is released.seems like it gets later and later each month….idk why but i do like knowing which are coming a week ahead…..
As for thsi vote i would go Zombie Vikings the others look like games i would consider if they weere on sale for 6.99 or less…

  • Armello has my vote, Grow Home just seems really boring, and with Zombie Vikings i’m just not a big fan of side-scrollers.

    • I’m not knocking the other games, but at the same time I’m trying to get more votes for Armello because I think it is a solid game with a lot of replay.

It would be great to rally more PS Plus player to vote for Armello

  • I’m voting for Armello!!!

    • Yay! Hoping to see many more votes for Armello.

Spread the word to your gaming friends and on social media, we need the votes from the PS Plus players to get it for free. Regardless it would be fantastic to gather enough interested players to have a large pool of Armello players on the PS4 to pull from for the online multiplayer side.

  • Im going for Grow Home
