The Elder Scrolls Online Beta Starts Tomorrow on PS4

Hello, PS4 Players! With the worldwide console launch of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on June 9th just a little over six weeks away, tomorrow we’re kicking off the pre-launch festivities with the console beta. This is a limited public beta — it will be our one beta before launch, and you must receive an invite to participate. Prepare to explore the vast expanses of Tamriel with your friends, game-subscription-free, for the first time on PS4!

Read on to learn more about the ESOTU console beta test. Those invited will also receive additional details in the invite email. If you have questions about the beta test that aren’t covered below, please leave a comment — we’ll do our best to answer!

What is the ESOTU console beta test?

This is a limited, closed public beta. You must receive an invite to participate. We are sending invites to some of those who signed up for the ESOTU PS4 beta (not everyone who signed up will get an invite.)

When is the ESOTU console beta test?

The ESOTU console beta test opens on Thursday, April 23rd at 10:00 AM Eastern and ends on Monday, April 27th at 10:00 AM Eastern.

When will invites for the ESOTU console beta test be sent out?

Invites start going out today, so check your inbox. Don’t forget to check your spam box, too (Just in case!) We strongly advise that those invited start downloading the game as soon as possible.

Is there an NDA in place for the ESOTU console beta test?

Nope! There is no NDA in place for this beta test, so we encourage participants to share screenshots and livestream until your heart’s content.

Will my characters from beta carry over to the live version of ESOTU on PS4?

Unfortunately, no. We will be wiping all characters from the PS4 ESOTU console beta before the official worldwide launch on June 9th. If you are eligible for the PC/Mac to PS4 transfer, your characters will be waiting for you on the PS4 megaservers at launch. Otherwise, you will be creating new characters on launch day.

Is this a cross-console beta test?

No, PlayStation players will have their own megaservers — one for North America and one for Europe. For the beta (and at launch), you will be able to choose which one you want to play on. Characters are unique per megaserver.

How many megaservers are available during the PS4 ESOTU beta test? Can I choose which one I want to play on?

We will have two megaservers for PS4, one for North America and one for Europe. You may choose which one you want to play on.

Will we be playing the full game during the ESOTU console beta test, or only parts of it?

Everyone participating in the ESOTU console beta test will have access to the full console version of the game, not a slimmed down version.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

Remember, there is no NDA for this event so we encourage everyone on PS4 to stream the beta over Twitch or UStream by using your PS4’s built-in share capabilities. We’ll be on the lookout for great streams to share!

In celebration of the upcoming PS4 launch on June 9th, we also have a handful of shiny new screenshots to share with you. You can see all these locales and more during the beta and at launch. Which one are you most looking forward to seeing yourself?

Don’t forget, the PS4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is also available for pre-order now on PlayStation Store.

We look forward to seeing many of you in Tamriel for the ESOTU console beta test, and in June at launch.

  • Thanks for the invite. Oh that’s right. I didn’t get one. I guess I only get the useless emails. But there is hope. People signed up with like 50 fake accounts and received a ton of keys they can sell for $50 each. So glad scumbags have plenty of keys while those of us that really want to play don’t unless we want to pay for them. /sadface

  • Hey Beth,

How about a little sumthin sumthin for your loyal fans that already pre-ordered copies on the PS4. I purchased digital 2 copies of standard and 1 physical imperial edition. I think a beta code for people that actually bought the game would be first and foremost on the list. After that, let the whiny millennials that didn’t pre order fight over the scraps in a random key hand out. Just a thought…

    Thank ya!

  • Valid only In the United States , or other countries may Participate ?

  • I just logged into the beta forums and replied back in the thread about receiving forum access with no beta key. For anyone else here that received a email to give you forum access but did not receive your beta key be sure to post in this thread like I did over at http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com and someone there will help.

  • Hello Jessica, you think you could kick down some codes to us on here obviously we are dying to play. Thanks in advanced lovely lady.

    • Wish I had some to give out, Devilmemnock. Unfortunately, they’ve all been sent out already, with the exception of a very small number of reserves for support-related issues.

  • Waited so long for console beta and didn’t get invited. Bummer, now I won’t be able to decide if I buy the game or not.

  • I would only be interested if the console/PC servers were not segregated.

  • Man this is a joke for one I signed up last year and did not get a key like wtf

  • Never got a key, like many others I see. Very disappointing…

I’m assuming the selection was random and not based on “first come first served” selection, or I more than likely would of received one.

I’m not really a “watch someone else play” type of guy, so I guess I’ll rent it when it drops to try it out or something. Congratulations to those who got a key, something akin to hitting the lotto it feels like.

  • @Jessica,
I have to call into question. If I’m not mistaken, I remember hearing that those that Pre-ordered the game as I and others on here have, that we would get a beta key just for pre-ordering when they first announced the beta for consoles. Has this perk changed since last year’s E3? I signed up for the PC beta and had been accepted but my specs were not good enough to run the beta. Would this be a factor that would diminish my chances to be accepted? I think I and some other in the same boat as I would like a reasonable answer if possible. I reserved the collectors edition of the game as soon as it was available, I even had a manager at gamestop text me the exact moment it was available! Lol

    • Console pre-orders for ESOTU were never tied to beta access. Some games have done that in the past–we did give early access to those who preordered for PC/Mac at launch–so we understand why there might have been an assumption that we were going that route with console, too. There was initially some discussion about an exclusive PS4 beta. That’s likely what you’re remembering from E3. Much like how the PlayStation Network requirement changed when we announced ESOTU and ESO Plus, we are no longer holding a PS4-exclusive beta. The one console beta, which we are holding now, gives both PS4 and Xbox One players a chance to help us test ESOTU at the same time.

As far as beta eligibility, no your PC specs would not have impacted your chances of getting into the console beta. We chose participants randomly from those who had signed up. We understand that those who didn’t get in are disappointed. Fortunately launch (on June 9th) is not too far out. In the meantime, we hope you’ll consider checking out some of the livestreams from the console beta, and of course asking questions here (especially if there are things you’d like to see or know more about.)

  • @XxSolidsnakexX So your saying you were helped and ended up receiving a beta key?

@ Jessica Folsom I would think you guys would want to stress test the servers as much as possible before June… If your encouraging streamers and word of mouth why wouldn’t you hand out keys to anyone who signed up? Just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. But thanks for making good on your word and letting us know when all the golden tickets have been found. I appreciate that much.

    • If the goal of the current console beta was to stress test the megaservers, you’re absolutely right that a full-fledged open beta would be best. That is not the goal of this test, though. The primary testing goals are to get feedback on the game’s console-specific features and social systems.

  • @Jessica Folsom
I have been a subscriber to PC version since launch day in 2014. I signed up for beta. I received and completed survey. I received confirmation email… but I got no code. What’s up?

  • I didnt know about this until i saw this post. And i just answered the survey, i still have a chance of getting a invite

  • ^^ that was a question, not a statement.

  • Disapointed, I had been waiting for that beta since it was on pc, hopefully you guys do what destiny did and amke it open at the end, was the beta on a first come first serve basis or did you pick and choose users, i was basing my purchase on the strength of the beta, now i will just wait for fallout 4,

  • I signed up for the beta early last year and answered the survey email last week, but didn’t get an invite. Kind of stinks.

  • Is there somewhere that says it I’m eligible for the character transfer? I don’t remember if I did it

  • I signed up for the beta on sunday and i haven’t receved an invitation to the beta

  • if someone have a code for me i really apreciated.
plz send me via message on psn
    I PLAY ON PS4.
    thanks

  • i looked at my email and i was invited over a year ago to the beta. now that there is a console beta, im not invited. thats unfortunate.

  • I had email april 15 did the survey didnt get anything help checked spam really want his beta

  • @jessica
what comes in The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Imperial Edition on the psn store? Also does anyone know what the theme looks like and if i get it right after i pre-order the game on the psn store.

  • I think the hole pick for the keys was a joke there was people like me and other out there that signed up last year and we get no key and you see people that just signed up like 2 weeks ago and they got keys I think that a Little unfair for us

  • cant wait to play elder scroll online iv ben signed up for the beta ps4 for year waiting hopeing to play beta befor my empirale edtion gets here on the 9th

  • how i can sign up beta ?

  • Its unfortunate that you gave these beta keys to mostly media players to hype your game up. Instead you should have given keys to the people that would actually test the game so it is everything console players deserve after such a long disappointing delay. It is pretty annoying watching a few of these twitch streams , that have got a beta key because they have a high following, not know how to play, stand around in town while they promote xyz product on streams, beg for donations every 5 min, and have no interest in your game. This “beta test” aka hype fest better provide stable gameplay at launch or this game is getting shelved. End of RANT

  • No invite, what a bunch of hog wash! Ordered limited edition elder scrolls online game over a year ago! wtf!

  • Does anyone know when the discount for PS Plus members ends? I tried really hard to find an answer through the blog and google but couldn’t find anything. :/

  • Signed up months ago and answered the survey, didnt get a code. Very disappointed, seems its just a way to hype up the game, by having it streamed. No need to have a beta for social systems. You have lost my purchase, not that it will matter. Good luck on your game.

  • I got the freaking beta key! yes! but i was on vacation and i did the survery two days ago, is it to late for me now? please PS employe tell me if i still can play the beta!? because ive had so manny issues that i almost feellike it wasent worth it if i diddent come intothe game. please help me.

  • So stoked! I got my invite and have been playing as much as I can!

I have no idea why this game received negative reviews. The only thing I can figure is that the negative reviews were left by World of Warcraft fanboys.

This is NOT an MMORPG in the traditional sense of the word (i.e. WoW, EverQuest, etc.). The best I can describe this game is “Oblivion with multiplayer”. Yes, it is like a traditional Elder Scrolls game with other players running around. I have yet to try grouping up with anyone but I am really really liking this game.

I made a lot of fun of Bethesda for this game but I am eating crow as I will now be going to preorder the upgraded edition of the game. Kudos to Bethesda.

  • Allot of ppl, say that we are “pathetuc” over our disapoiment over beta? Well, I strongly disagree. I’m guessing allot of you weren’t eligible to begin with. But, not knowung about the conditions of the beta, until after the cut-off date.

The fact, that those that signed up 2 weeks prior got in. The fact their were 100 beta keys total , and they went to the “streamers”
I’m still completely shocked over this beta scandal , but I’m more shocked ! That ppl still intend to by the game. What Bethesda did, was possibly Illegal , but definitely immoral and unethical. And by buying the game , were saying it’s ok Bethesda for what you did too us.

I for one will not forgive them so easy, for what they did. Was it truly worh making over 2,000 gamers mad? That equals 92% of the gaming population. With this cheap PR stunt, in very poor taste. This beta will go down in gaming history as the most “immoral” in beta history.

6 weeks is still awhile away? I’m glad the Witcher 3 comes May 19th. Hopefully it will get the “bad taste” of my mouth, over this beta. I known their will be other betas, but I just don’t know?

The worse part, is having to constantly herar about it! Talk about adding “insut to injury”

  • Now I might ? And that’s a very huge MIGHT. Change my mind, IF someone makes a very convincing argument ? As to why, I should care about this game? And I’ve yet to see someone give me an “extremly” good reason why? I should buy this game , and when it comes to $$$$$ for evil companies like Bethesda. It does matter. So, don’t think for 1 moment it doesn’t matter because in the “long run” it does. So, Bethesda are you going 2 make this up to us? Or are they ‘right” about you truly not caring about your fanbase? The ball, is your court Bethesda.

  • So Bethesda what was the total number of keys you gave out? Hmm! 100, 500
You might as well, answer and actually tell us the TRUTH! After you lied to us about the beta.

I will keep digging , until I get the TRUTH! I don’t care what I have to do get the TRUTH! But mark my words, I will get to the bottom of this scandal eventually. I will make so many waves, you’ll think your caught in a Typhoon ;]

Maybe I will, contact Bethesda directly I do have their email address. Question is ? Do you want to risk everything so close to launch? Exposing the scandal , around launch. Won’t help.

So Bethesda , you ready to come clean? Or are you keep , denying everything.
