Read on to learn more about the ESOTU console beta test. Those invited will also receive additional details in the invite email. If you have questions about the beta test that aren’t covered below, please leave a comment — we’ll do our best to answer!

What is the ESOTU console beta test?

This is a limited, closed public beta. You must receive an invite to participate. We are sending invites to some of those who signed up for the ESOTU PS4 beta (not everyone who signed up will get an invite.)

The ESOTU console beta test opens on Thursday, April 23rd at 10:00 AM Eastern and ends on Monday, April 27th at 10:00 AM Eastern.

Is there an NDA in place for the ESOTU console beta test?

Nope! There is no NDA in place for this beta test, so we encourage participants to share screenshots and livestream until your heart’s content.

Will my characters from beta carry over to the live version of ESOTU on PS4?

Unfortunately, no. We will be wiping all characters from the PS4 ESOTU console beta before the official worldwide launch on June 9th. If you are eligible for the PC/Mac to PS4 transfer, your characters will be waiting for you on the PS4 megaservers at launch. Otherwise, you will be creating new characters on launch day.

Is this a cross-console beta test?

No, PlayStation players will have their own megaservers — one for North America and one for Europe. For the beta (and at launch), you will be able to choose which one you want to play on. Characters are unique per megaserver.

How many megaservers are available during the PS4 ESOTU beta test? Can I choose which one I want to play on?

We will have two megaservers for PS4, one for North America and one for Europe. You may choose which one you want to play on.

Will we be playing the full game during the ESOTU console beta test, or only parts of it?

Everyone participating in the ESOTU console beta test will have access to the full console version of the game, not a slimmed down version.

Remember, there is no NDA for this event so we encourage everyone on PS4 to stream the beta over Twitch or UStream by using your PS4’s built-in share capabilities. We’ll be on the lookout for great streams to share!

In celebration of the upcoming PS4 launch on June 9th, we also have a handful of shiny new screenshots to share with you. You can see all these locales and more during the beta and at launch. Which one are you most looking forward to seeing yourself?

Don’t forget, the PS4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is also available for pre-order now on PlayStation Store.

We look forward to seeing many of you in Tamriel for the ESOTU console beta test, and in June at launch.

  • ****! I (like many others) didn’t even hear about the closed Beta for consoles until recently and only just signed up earlier today! I hope we get to join in on the fun! I was looking forward to streaming this game.

  • Console players who Pre Ordered this game should automatically get included in this eligibility emails lol, clearly we want to play the game enough to buy it ahead of time…

  • Nop, they just give them to those who signed a years ago.

  • “no guarantees you’ll get into the beta” totally understand, but please hook a player up with a beta email, I signed up, already pre-ordered the game…yadda yadda…. :)

  • I agree with JhonnyBoyQC and here’s why? Back during the Ps3 beta of DCUO, they intially made us make copies of our pre-order recipts just to be elgible. Then they get this bright idea, to let PS members in. Oh! I was so mad! I can’t begin to tell you, how many betas I don’t get in? Simply because , I’m not a PS member. So, don’t insult me by telling me What’s fair.

  • One thing , I personally can’t stand are these “self-entitled” gamers , that beg like dog’s for the beta. Have some dignity , if you have any left? I can tell you “begging” dosen’t work, so please stop! Your making the rest of us look bad as a whole.

  • @Jessica Folsom I’m not sure how to reply in regards to my earlier comment so I’m just making another one lol. I do remember getting an email but I have since deleted it as I delete all emails after I read them :(. I’m guessing I needed it?

  • So you will let, us know ? Either here or Fakebook, Twitter that you are done sending out the betas. So, were not “left in the dark” I will be honest , I will be disapointed If I don’t get in? Considering , I too signed up a year ago:[

    • Yes, we absolutely will let everyone know once we’ve sent out the last wave of invites (here and on our official forums.)

  • Doesn’t look like I’m getting the beta key, signed up a year ago for this and still nothing. So disappointed I really wanted to play :(

  • So Cool :)

  • @Seabeepug so true

  • I got a beta key but when i enter it in, it tells me that the code is invalid. I go to redeem codes and enter the number in the box and nothing happens. I even did it on the eso website, and that didnt work. How am I suppose to participate if my code is invalid.

  • Why are you charging money for a game that is going free to play?

  • Here’s a free beta key I got 2 but only need 1 so first in first serve ENJOY! JQDJ-PKNL-4CFP

  • Wanted to try this game before I bought it. I guess I won’t be able to try it because I can’t get into the beta. Oh well. I will probably just stick with FF XIV.

  • I want an invite

  • I hope, they remove “self-entitled” jerks, that say we don’t have a right to be disapointed, from the list. We signed up a year ago, we deserve and have a right to be in the beta. I have been in allot of betas in the past. About 15 total, and nothing is a guarantee. And basically their “private demo’s” and IF I don’t get in? I simply don’t get in. But unlike, most “self-entitled” jerks, it won’t stop me from buying the game. Come June 9th, I will be dealing with plenty of “self-entitled” jerks when the game launches. Hopefully , after a month? The game will weed out the “wannbees” and keep the serious gamers. But, when you have to wait a year and you sign up and do the survey. It is very disapointing, but it’s not like the world is going to end.

I admit, gamers can be “drama queens” big time. Instead of “adding insult to injury” let’s try and be a little sympathetic ok.

Besides, what IF someone else got in and you didn’t, would you want to hear others brag about it. I think, not.

  • It’s are fault or Bethesda’s fault you didn’t know about the beta. I knew , because I’m a REAL gamer;] And I’m also very passionate when it comes to gaming. I’m always reading about gaming. In fact I own my own website:] But, their is a “price” you pay for spending 24/7 on social networking sites. Because , you have absolutly have no clue about anything? Unless someone tells you, as to what’s going on. But, at the same time it was on the SNS’s so you not getting into beta? Is your own fault. And you only have yourself to blame, plus it was literary plastered over the entire internet! So, stop blaming others for your laziness.

  • I signed up the day you could…Idc if I get in or not…but when I come here to see if there done with keys or not I don’t want to see a bunch of kids crying about getting a key!

  • Of course , I’m speaking in general.

  • And the TRUTH! that no one wants to hear. But, I have no problem speaking it;]

  • @Seebeepug on that I agree but their are other options like Fakebook and Twitter. And it goes back to “self-entitlement” so please try and keep that in mind? In the future ok.

  • Just out of curiosity i signed up year ago but just did the survey earlier today, do i still have a chance to get an invite or is it done?

    • It’s very unlikely, z_pox. :( We pulled all the data for those we would be inviting on Monday morning, and those who returned the survey did have increased invite chances.

  • They said no in a earlier comment…would have had to have done the survey before Monday I think is what they said. Sry

  • I clearly remember signing up for this a while ago, but I still haven’t gotten anything. Was it through e-mail, or PSN message?

  • This is BS!! I have signed up for this PS4 beta ever since E3 when they announced that the beta was coming to PS4 first. I Just pre- ordered the imperial edition last week at Gamestop, I have checked my spam mail and i have not received a single thing. There have better be another beta or technical test of some sort or i may as well cancel my pre order because none of my friends are even getting the game!

  • Oh my word it’s shocking to see these moaners go on about beta access…. The game is 6 weeks away… Not 6 years. They have no obligation to give beta preference to anyone, so you guys are literally *****ing because the sky is blue…. It does not matter if you pre-ordered all the Elder Scrolls collectors editions ever made, they never tied beta access to pre-orders or to your dedication to their products…. They just want to test their product before launch and I can ensure you that it’s a huge task, so let them be… Really guys, it’s a bit pathetic isn’t it…

I can’t believe people will waste their energy QQ’ing about beta access… Who cares, your progress will be gone once done. Just be excited because in 6 weeks you’ll be playing the ACTUAL game…

  • Not going to lie, definitely a little sad I didn’t get a beta invite. I was looking forward to it. XD

  • Hey ive been checking my email’s nothing so far.
Are the invites still going out until later today?

    Thanks

  • I signed up and recieved/turned in the survey yet I haven’t recieved a code yet. Are those still shipping out today?

  • Been waiting patiently for this game signed up for the beta a while back. Is there still a chance to receive an invite today or later this weekend? Want to play really bad. Thanks

    • We are still sending out invites. We’ll let everyone know after we finish sending the last batch of invites later today.

  • Thanks fingers crossed

  • Signed up for the Beta way over a years ago when the game was announced, switched it over to PS4 when that sign up started over a year ago, and answered this last survey and still no beta key :-(

If you’re going to do a closed beta, at least invite everyone who signs up for it. We’re highly invested! This game is the reason I bought a PS4

  • Same here, did all the steps an years ago and still no beta key…
    Did the survey too.

  • Finally start! Ty, gl hf all, waiting for relese =)

  • Elder Scrolls is such a versatile game and there are many different play styles to choose from. Simply watching someone in a video playing the game isn’t enough to convince you to buy it if they don’t make the same choices that you would have in-game.

So a lot of people are on the fence about this game, and are using the beta as a means of deciding whether they want to buy the game or not. And when they don’t get in, they simply just don’t buy the game, because they never got to see if they liked it or not.

As for me, I thought ESO didn’t look that interesting at launch. But, I heard about new changes they implemented into the game and I decided when I got the survey, that I would want to participate.

I think it would be worthwhile for Zenimax to continue to send out beta invites so as many people can try it as possible, because they’re all potential customers that they could lose if they’re left out! Well that’s my opinion anyway.

  • How does knowing bout beta testing make you a real gamer :/. Everyone knows bout beta testing….this dude is way over himself and putting waaay to much effort into his typing.

  • I totally agree with +dizzy, if I can’t do the beta, idk if I want to buy the game anymore

  • As of 11:45AM EDT, all beta invites have now been sent out.

  • I wonder how many people aren’t buying the game now since they couldn’t do the beta

  • Who cares! If you have to try the beta to try a game then they should never do betas! I’m glad there done regardless that I didn’t get in! Won’t stop me from getting the game…but then again I’m not a child

  • It’s totally worth it either way. I think everyone should buy it if you’re really into the elder scrolls.

  • This game is reminding me of how WoW goes, and I don’t like that game. But I love elder scrolls, so I’m on the fence as to wether or not I’ll enjoy the game. Spending $60+ for a game that I may end up not liking isn’t worth it

  • So your telling me you have liked every game you have ever bought? You one luck sob if that’s true!

  • Well I think he means he’s bought games before that he didn’t like and so he’s more careful with purchases now? Correct me if I’m wrong.

I’ve bought games that I immediately regret purchasing for full price, so I’m more cautious now when buying games with mixed reviews and such.

  • I’m definitely not en expert on marketing, but maybe an open beta would have gotten the game into more people’s hands and convinced them to buy ESO?

  • Well then don’t buy it…it’s always a shot in the dark! It won’t effect zenimax if you get it…it’s a free to play game now

  • Very few games have betas and it’s not a marketing tool! It’s a quality check!
