Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Out June 23rd, New Details

With millions of subscribers and an ever-growing world of content to explore, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has struck a chord with the larger MMO community — and it shows no signs of relenting. In fact, Square Enix revealed today that its upcoming expansion, Heavensward, will debut on June 23rd of this year. It will introduce massive new zones, flying mounts, three new jobs and more to the already staggering Eorzean landscape.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward

During the Game Developers Conference earlier this week, my colleague Ryan Clements and I spoke with Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida about his tireless work on Final Fantasy XIV. Of course, we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to ask for new details pertaining to the upcoming Heavensward expansion.

Yoshida, with his immaculately styled hair and impressive collection of metal rings, exudes a calm, confident air, despite the tremendous expectations placed upon him and his team.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward

Heavensward promises to add an incredible amount of new content to Final Fantasy XIV, but Yoshida notes that none of the FFXIV team members are dedicated to work solely on this new expansion. While developing Heavensward, the team has also been working to implement new content into the existing FFXIV experience — including the fan-favorite Gold Saucer and Triple Triad, a fully featured deck-building card game that hearkens back to Final Fantasy VIII and is playable across Eorzea with NPCs and other players alike.

“The thought of pushing Gold Saucer back to Heavensward never crossed my mind.”

It was a conscious decision to add lots of new content, including Gold Saucer, near the end of the FFXIV 2.X storyline, to make sure players have plenty to do until Heavensward launches.

“Gold Saucer was always part of the 2.X roadmap. It was always part of A Realm Reborn,” Yoshida explains. “The thought of pushing it back until Heavensward never crossed my mind.”

Zones in Final Fantasy XIV are already huge — they’re designed to fit within 2km by 2km boundaries — but there are new scenarios to consider since Heavensward will introduce flying mounts (including flying chocobos and single-rider airships) for the first time. Flying mounts will get you around approximately three times faster than ground-based mounts, but Yoshida’s team is making sure to include surprising elements and discoveries within each zone to keep players exploring.

Yoshida estimates that there will be around 1.5 times as much area to explore in Heavensward’s new zones — while there may be fewer zones, there will end up being just as much traversable area in Heavensward at launch as in A Realm Reborn.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward

Final Fantasy XIV recently celebrated the milestone of four million registered accounts, but this success isn’t changing the team’s plans:

“The number of subscriptions doesn’t necessarily affect the development of the game, since the number of people who can enter a certain zone or server is limited,” says Yoshida. “There may be opportunities to increase the number of servers to accommodate more players, but the content itself isn’t affected by the number of people playing.”

He went on to explain that the development team is conscious of a gap between newer players and FFXIV veterans, and that they continue to look for ways to bridge content and help new Eorzeans transition into high-level content, eventually becoming veterans themselves.

“One advantage of having more players subscribe is more revenue,” he continued, “not only for Square Enix but for us to put back into the game. By having more players join us, we can feed that back into polishing the quality of your gameplay experience.”

Yoshida-san himself is an MMO veteran, and this has informed certain aspects of FFXIV’s design. An early inspiration was Ultima Online, which first opened his mind to the idea of players across the globe gathering in a virtual world to play together. The concept of PKs and PKKs also illustrated that while cooperation is fun, fighting against other players can be fun as well.

Yoshida has taken a particularly close look at large-scale PvP in other MMOs, like World of Warcraft’s Horde vs. Alliance scenario and Dark Age of Camelot’s Realm vs. Realm. He specifically wanted to avoid situations in which one group would have a distinct advantage over another, hence FFXIV’s Frontlines mode that sees three Grand Companies competing against one another.

Other MMO influences include public events from Warhammer, which saw further refinement in Guild Wars’ dynamic events. When they wanted to incorporate this kind of system into A Realm Reborn, Yoshida relayed to the dev team that they should have spontaneous live events that involve players who happen to be nearby. This eventually became the F.A.T.E. system, now a staple for FFXIV players of all levels.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward

Final Fantasy XIV features hours and hours of original content, but it’s not afraid to borrow from the series’ rich history, either.

“What we strive to achieve with FFXIV is like a Final Fantasy series theme park,” says Yoshida. “You have original attractions that have to be good, but we also want to incorporate elements that Final Fantasy players from any generation will recognize and be attracted to.”

The team is conscious of the series passionate fan base though, and they’re careful to respect any source material they implement into FFXIV:

“The relationship between Cloud and Sephiroth, for example, is very iconic to Final Fantasy fans. If we were to depict that in FFXIV, there’s a risk that Final Fantasy VII fans might see it and be shocked to see these characters behaving differently than they might have imagined. We don’t want to modify these characters’ stories — players have a strong affinity with them, and we want to respect that.”

“…like a Final Fantasy theme park.”

Of course, the breadth of the Final Fantasy universe isn’t to be underestimated, and Yoshida doesn’t expect that he’ll run out of content to nod to in FFXIV:

“You might have noticed the Floating Continent in Heavensward, and I’ve always wanted to go to the moon (like in Final Fantasy IV). There are still many classic elements from Final Fantasy that we can incorporate, and we want to continue blending them into FFXIV for fans to enjoy.”

I seized this opportunity to request that Yoshida-san and team let us fight Kefka in the future. Everyone in the room laughed, which I hope means they’ll consider it!

Questions abound regarding how the new jobs in Heavensward will be implemented, since they don’t require a base class. Yoshida added some clarity when we asked for more details:

“We were actually recently deciding what to call these jobs that don’t have a base class, and we’ve decided to call them ‘Extra Jobs.’ Just like when you can switch to different jobs when you’re at level 30, that applies to these as well. As long as any class or job is at level 30, you’ll be able to access any of these three new jobs.”

Before meeting with Yoshida-san, we put out a call for questions on Twitter, and you responded in kind — thank you! Your questions, and Yoshida’s replies, follow:

Editor’s Note: After publishing this story, we received clarification from Square Enix for this question. The updated answer follows, but we’ve left the original answer in the story for transparency’s sake.

Naoki Yoshida: You will have to already own A Realm Reborn, plus complete all of the main story quests up through Patch 2.55. After that, an introductory quest for Heavensward will become available; accepting that quest will then guide you through the gates of Ishgard. All of the job quests related to the new jobs will be in Ishgard as well, so the condition to access those will be the same. If a player had stopped playing around Patch 2.2 or 2.3, it would be best to revisit the A Realm Reborn main story quests to get back into the groove as you head towards Heavensward!

Original Answer: If you already own A Realm Reborn and you get Heavensward, you’ll be able to at least enter Ishgard. The new jobs added in Heavensward are not tied to the main story, so those are accessible as well. In terms of the story, if you want to enjoy the Heavensward story arc, since it’s tied to the upcoming 2.55 patch, it’s a prerequisite to have finished that content. If a player had stopped playing around patch 2.2 or 2.3, I’d recommend choosing one of the new jobs and leveling that up while catching up on the story, then transitioning into Heavensward.

Yoshida: It’s tricky to say, but there will be changes applied to each job. One common change is that the job quest will continue from where it left off starting around level 52, so you’ll obtain new skills, spells and weapon skills. So when you go into combat you’ll have a wider range of selection in what kinds of actions you can take during battle. For example, if you play as a DPS job and you learn a new skill or spell, you can implement that into the command set you have built, or build a new one from scratch and strategize how you can apply these new skills. With some of the boss characters in Heavensward, you actually can’t fight them using your older skills — they might require you to know new skills that are only available after the level cap has been raised. This will create an opportunity for players to get together with the community to strategize how to beat these monsters. It’s safe to assume that you’ll be experiencing a new gameplay experience with the raising of the level cap.

Yoshida: It depends on how much dev time we allocate. In terms of Triple Triad, there will be 20 additional cards added in 3.0. Perhaps somebody in Ishgard is playing Triple Triad. Everyone’s been so focused on Triple Triad and Chocobo Racing that nobody’s doing the Hunt anymore!

Yoshida: I participated and could have won first place… but I came in fifth. I was actually working that day, but rushed home to check the numbers thinking “I’m gonna win the jackpot!” but it turned out to be fifth place. But the winning numbers vary with each world. Only the Twelve know…

  • But anyway to counter what ghost here was saying first off he’s apparently been gone awhile FFXIV is a great MMO and I’ve been playing MMOs for God like 17 years now. Comparatively FFXIV offers a lot more for your money then most others. WoW and such come out with expansions almost every other year with a 60 dollar price tag with small “free” updates. FFXIV depending where you buy it you can jump in for 30 dollars and includes your first 30 days. It has constantly come out with updates NEW events not just recycled ones like WoW and doesn’t charge you everytime they want to add something to the game. It’s completely understandable to charge for such an expansion as this one that nearly doubles the game. I for one will be preordering the expansion now that there is a solid release date announced.

Also to Square and Mr. Yoshida thank you for an awesome game looking forward to the future of Eorzea

  • still cant play this game, i bought it then dont have any options to renew my subscription without a credit card, where im located theres not even the sub cards or any other cards to top up this game

  • I wish these MMO game that required a monthly payment other than a credit card there’s to much hacking going on now. Using PSN cards or make your own your call until then I’m out. I’m playing my 14 day trial and liking it but there need to be other way’s of paying where you don’t need a credit card bad business now a day. :)

  • @45

    1. Of course the games patch updates at the same time! But to access new content, you have to have cleared the previous dungeons raid. If I was not clear in post #34, only 1 group when the last set of coils released was cleared to run the new dungeons. Everyone on the server outside of that group was paying for content they couldnt play.

    2. Yes PS4 and PC can play on the same server. Again this is another irrelevant point. Jenova was billed as the PS4 launch server that went up with the game. It’s predominantly PS4 players and desolate. It had PC players but mostly PS4 and it was very obvious looking at the quality of players on that server.

    3. Yoshida doesn’t read anything like this unless there are a bunch of 000’s after the viewer or subscriber count of the person asking the question. You might as well have thanked president Obama too. Thanks Obama.

    4. I’ve had multiple friends ask me if I was coming back to the game and the answer is a definite NO. Same old same old. You couldn’t pay me to play this sadistic grindfest that pats PC players on the back for using mods.

Just remember this guy warned you FFXIV is awful and the stigmas youll encounter on a PS4. Good riddance.

  • “607 DPS NIN – T11” by Firana Magnus on youtube. Dated March 6th. Watch it. Still not banned.

I guess the “pc masterrace” was right. The only thing PS4 players amount to being in “Eorzea” is little grinding worker bees for the glorious PC masterrace.

Square Enix does not ban players who use parsers. Period. No damage meters for Ps4 tho.

  • So.. will there be an official DPS parser comming to FFXIV (and PS4) or not?? Players have been excluded from their own static groups, because theyre dps was not good enough for fcob.

Didnt Yoshi say, he’s working on a dps parser??.. With a “personal” dps parser, where you can atleast see your own dps, can help experiment and improve your dps.. and youll know when others are lying about your socalled “low dsp” etc… Its only fair to bring one on the PS4 too.

If FFXIV should sell on the PS4, they should bring one. many are not getting the PS4 and the PS4 version just for that reason.

  • long time mmo players just want /need a parser…., when will Yoshi get that…

  • Seriously get this blog post off the front of the playstation blog. This isn’t a game that runs well on the PS4.

It wasn’t designed for us. It wasn’t meant to run on our hardware. They probably couldn’t even implement a damage meter on our PS4s if they wanted to due to the limited RAM.

The predatory practices of Square with this game towards playstation 4 players, poor customer service, stubborn broken policies and all around lack of care for the PS4 players who play their game is insulting.

I cant stand the fact that youre trying to lure new players into this no win, timesink of a game for a PS4 player. $60 plus $15 every month to be a second class citizen.

    it’s all about the money.

  • @ Yoshi P explicitly said there would be no damage meter for PS4.

They are fine with PC players having them. They dont want PC players talking about them because they want PS4 players to remain ignorant. They think of PS4 owners as being children who can’t handle playing with the big boys.

  • Firana Magnus. Right there on youtube with a parser damage meter which is supposedly “against the Terms of service”

clearly using a third party mod.

ban away. calling your bluff square enix.

  • To be perfectly clear, when I say Square Enix, I mean the idiots they have managing this terrible Final Fantasy mmo who are profiting off misleading PS4 players. Square Enix still has some good stuff like Hitman.

Seriously just cancel this disaster of a game and pour those resources into another Hitman game. Absolution was awesome.
I think Blood Money was the peak of the series. But you make an open World HItman and that would just be sick. It just makes sense with all the big AAA games going open world like Metal Gear Solid etc.

Open world Hitman. Do it Square Enix. Take my money.

Fire all of these stubborn Japanese dudes and pour that money into the next hitman game. Do something good for PS4 players for once when your done making franchises that started on the playstation exclusive to the Xbox 1. *COugh Tomb Raider*

  • Tomb Raider is still a poor mans Uncharted anyways

  • oh god #57 is gonna get me in trouble. nobody call anita sarkessian

  • I think that’s the first time I’ve seen Yoshi mention wanting to go to the moon. I know they brought the moon to us, but I’d love for us to actually fly into space, Lunar Whale style! Also it’s so nice to see the Floating Continent. I loved how Crystal Tower was taken from III, but fit into XIV’s lore neatly.

  • Can’t you guys at Square Enix make FF14ARR offline mode and let players from my same console able to log-in with their own characters to slip-screen with as guest. Offline mode would be awesome still and how about changing subscription to this then: $60 for whole 1 year for standard user plus rank, $30 for whole 1 year for entry users who use only one character on one world plus with rank, and finally it should allow players with low income to join-in the fun as well.

No one shouldn’t be missing this awesome fun video game so changing the subscription would help those’s with low income to join-in and help make balance payment that is good plus bring in more newcomers and old gamers into the FF fun again. :) >.<

I'm finally LV.40 Black Mage next is getting LV.50 then working on becoming Ninja or White Mage. :)

  • thought theres a dps pareser running in the background anyways…, shouldnt be a prob on the PS4 for a “personal” dps parser (that only shows your own dps).

this game will never take off as it could on the PS4, if Yoshi doesnt gives us a dps parser

  • @GhostX1984 @RaiTheNoblesse

Everything you guys saying is rubbish.

Ghost, your so called backed up claim is all lies. You obviously have some kind of agenda with all that propaganda coming out from your post.

You can find the FFXIV User Agreement in FFXIV support center.

2.1 Cheating and Botting. You may not create or use any unauthorized cheats, bots, automation software, hacks, mods or any other unauthorized software or hardware designed to modify the Game and gameplay. In addition, you may not take advantage of game system bugs and exploits during gameplay.

^ Yes that includes parsers, so stop asking for it. Report people that use it, and show SE the evidence.

  • @grayfox2k8 square enix employee,

Firana Magnus. Look him up on youtube. There’s a damage meter in every single one of his videos. Not banned.

    You’re a paid shill.

  • Anyone know when heavensward will be available for preorder on PSN Store? i’d rather have digital version.

  • The_ShortestPath

GhostX, if you aren’t capable of clearing content without a DPS parser it just means that you’re a bad player. Using the right abilities at the right time will give you the same DPS with or without being able to see the numbers.

So it really just sounds like you’re mad because you’re bad. And also a little bit because you wasted 400 bucks on a brick to play the inferior version of a game, but that’s pretty much all PS4 users in general.

  • I would just like to say I absolutely love this game, and have been subscribed to it since release. I’m thoroughly looking forward to Heavensward even though I’ll be on holiday when it comes out.

I haven’t really come across any hate or animosity towards PS3/4 players on my server (Phoenix). Sure you’ll come across the usual arrogant PC elitist, but that’s generally something you come across in most games like this.

I absolutely love the end-game in FFXIV. There’s so much to do besides the main raid (The Binding Coil) which I’m not interested in myself, as I find it tedious and boring. There’s 24 player raids in The Crystal Tower storyline, and a bunch of level 50 dungeons that keep getting added to with a majority of the updates. Also content for crafting/gathering classes. In fact there are times when I feel overwhelmed by the amount of content on offer, even more so now with the recent addition of The Golden Saucer (Triple Triad/Chocobo racing).

I must have put at least 3000+ hours into this game since I got it, and look forward to spending many more hours with it in the future.

  • i cant wait for the expansion got most of my jobs to lvl 50 still got to get white mage to 50. i recommend everybody who hasnt try FFXIVARR go try it theres a trial

  • @Ghost
Who the hell cares if ps4 gets a damn parser, I mostly play with all pc players on gilgamesh and they always ask me to join them. I’m on console as well. Having a parser doesn’t make you better than anyone, it just means you can see what people’s numbers are who the hell cares. Also, DnT has quite a few console players as well as collision. They are both nice FC’s so no I don’t even care if we get parsers all that is a damn number for dps, if you’re doing your rotation right you’re fine. If you got kicked out of a group for having low numbers then man you suck on your job. I hit at least 410 on my drg in t11-12 but I’m also using a 115 weapon and only 120 so who cares about the numbers man. Just quit your whining and shut up. If you’re not gonna play the game anymore than by all means stop playing and don’t come back. You just picked a bad server with bad people. Over 200 people alone transferred to gilga in the past month you just need a new server man.

  • @ Shortestpath

    1. Check my youtube. I carried my groups. My first kill on T8 is right up there on youtube. I lead the raid calling tower order.

    2. I wanted a dps meter to help my groups to see who was not pulling their weight to improve their rotation. Alot of idiots say meters would be used to exclude people which is complete bull because i tended to play with the same circle of friends regardless. Having meters would have helped the weak links improve.

    3. I agree with you there. FFXIV on PS4 surely is the inferior version which reflects poorly on Square Enix and Sony. The 24 player raids and open world kills where large number of players are present will cause the game to lag like crazy. It’s clearly designed more for pcs.

    4. $400 to play Bloodborne which is going to be an infinitely more rewarding experience than this RIGGED GRINDFEST for pc players to circlejerk with meters. Seriously its the majority of what they talk about on the reddit. Meters meters meters.

    5. I could give a care less what a scrub like you thinks

  • @ Cloud

LOL you paid the swindlers money ontop of an already exorbitant monthly fee.

Get carried I guess. You still dont know how to play the game proper if thats all your pulling. Guess you better watch more PC players and have them kill your bosses for you.

  • @ Sensei Switch

No Square Enix is backing the pc elitist mentality 100%. They are giving them their mods and letting them have the advantage over PS4 players.

Clearly the PC elitists are not being arrogant here with regard to the performance of this game on the PS4.

Theyre arrogant with regards to the skill of some of the PS4 players but theyre dead right that the PS4 version is a very inferior version.

-No mods to give you ques for bosses abilities
-No parsers to check your dps
-More lag in open world battles with large number of players

PS4 version is a cash grab on Squares part. And their customer service is garbage. THey ban you from their forums if they dont like what you say or ask. I simply made a few posts asking why they wouldnt add mods for the PS4 version and was removed fromt he forums for asking.

Square Enix are a bunch of low life scum and this game deserves to be dragged through the mud for what it is. So sleezy

  • Good riddance.

Cant wait to see this game fail again.

  • @GhostX1984
Wow, it’s amazing that a game can offend you on such a deep, personal level. Your posts make up probably more than 50% of the comments on this post.

You are SO very wrong and misguided on so many things about this game. I go back and forth between the PS4 and PC version and they both run very well.

You act as though Square is providing parsers to PC players and actively denying PS4 players. This isn’t the case. There are 3rd party parsers that people can download from the internet, and it’s against the TOS to do so. However, these really do not give PC players that much of an advantage.

First off, all of the servers are cross-platform. If you really want to know your exact dps, find a friend who plays on PC and ask for a parse. There are many, many PC players and I can basically guarantee that if you join an FC, someone will have a parser. If you join a static, someone will have a parser. Yes, they may be against the TOS but dps meters are not cheating in any way. Knowing how much damage you do will help you see where to improve your rotation but that’s about it.

  • @GhostX1984 continued

I play on Adamantoise and I have never ONCE seen discrimination against PS4 players. No one cares. I lead both a Free Company and a Static and I have players from all systems in both. I beat T9 on PS4, with multiple other players on console. I’m now raiding Final Coil, and I use a DS4 hooked up to my PC. My Static is working on Turn 12, and gasp – we have PS4 players!

It sounds like you had a bad experience and you’re very good at holding grudges. Let it go. And of course if you’re trying to join Lucrezia or DnT, you’re going to get vetted. Those are literally some of the TOP progression FCs in the entire game.

  • FFXIV: ARR is one of the – if not THE – best MMO on the market, and the best FF game to come out in a long time.

There is a 2-week free trial on PS3/PS4/PC for anyone who wants to play. I’m very familiar with this game on both PS4 and PC, and I’ll gladly answer any questions anyone has about it if you want to ask. I can answer questions about just about anything regarding the game now, as well as what has been revealed about the expansion.

I’m on Adamantoise as well, if anyone else is on that server.

  • Also, here are some of the new things being added for 3.0 (Heavensward)
    1) New Tank job: DARK KNIGHT
    2) New DPS job: MACHINIST
    3) New Healer job: ASTROLOGIAN
    4) A DirectX 11 version
    5) A Mac client
    6) New Race: AU RA
    7) The city of Ishgard
    8) Flying mounts
    9) Level cap raised to 60
    10) New Raid: Alexander – multiple difficulties
    11) New Artifact Gear
    12) New Beast Tribes
    13) New zones in both Coerthas and Dravania
    14) New loot system for raid
    15) Much more that we don’t know about – but there will be more primals, and another ct-style raid (Supposedly)
    16) Both a new map and a new ruleset for Frontlines pvp
    17) Specialist tier for crafters that we’ll hear more about later
    18) Airship workshop for Free Company houses to build multiple-person flying mounts

  • If you’re a fan of either Final Fantasy or MMOs, this game is definitely worth a try! It’s an incredibly well-executed, well-polished MMO. It’s also completely loaded up with Fan Service from past FF titles.

Don’t let one person’s super salty, incredibly strange opinion (related: http://i.imgur.com/waJbJI8.gif) deter you when millions of others are playing and loving the game.

Also, the game runs great on PS4. I played from the first PS4 beta over and year ago, and have not noticed ANY issues on PS4. The game is actually absolutely beautiful and is one of the best looking MMOs on the market. If for whatever reason you’re really having troubles, the resolution can be adjusted for better performance. But I’ve never once seen a reason to turn in down from the beautiful, native 1080.

  • Looks good not but interested in an MMO. Need FF Type-0 and FF XV! (and a true FFVII HD)

  • I couldn’t possibly be more excited. I’ve watched the Tour of the North video more times than I can count. I don’t mind the June date, this should give me time to actually finish my relic ax. :)

  • Ah, I can’t wait for Heavensward! I’mma make a dragon man who is a dark knight, just like one of my Dungeons and Dragons characters! (Well, most of my characters in this game are based on that actually. XD)

  • The_ShortestPath

@GhostX it is not actually possible to make the game perform well on the PS4 because of hardware and network limitations. And again, I’ll reiterate the fact that you don’t need DPS parsers whatsoever to clear high-end content. Having them might be nice, but the lack of them certainly doesn’t detract from an otherwise amazing game. You and your buddies just need to get good.

They probably banned you for whining like a petulant child, much like you’re doing here.

  • Just got a PS4 for my birthday, last week, and was pleasantly surprised at how much better it ran on PS4 than PS3. Quicker loading, better framerate, better graphics. It took a bit to get used to the touch pad thing, but otherwise, that free 10 days were enough to get me back to being excited about the game.

When I last played it, it was full of PC elitists getting angry at you if you didn’t watch Youtube tutorials before every primal battle. But what I came back to was a vastly friendlier, more user-friendly place. I love the bonus if you don’t clear a primal the first time, because it makes it less likely for people to fight amongst themselves if you wipe the first time.

I think I will subscribe again in June.

  • It’s not a coincidence that none of the top 10 guilds in this game play on PS4s.

The game rewards PC players for using damage meters that they dont allow PS4 players to use. End of story.

ShortestPath can talk all the smack he wants but my youtube clips back me up.

“having them might be nice” – understatement of the year. it’s essential when you’re clearing new content the first week its released.

This is a rigged game for PC players run by people who support their elitist attitudes.

  • @ Fox15

There’s nothing strange about my opinion.

I wasted months building a character to level 50 to find out that you cannot take part in endgame proficiently because they only allow PC users to use damage meters in an MMO.

THey do allow pc users to use them as I have provided a link to Firana Magnus Youtube channel multiple times. He’s been using damage meters since the game came out and recently posted a video 2 days ago. Still not banned.

IT IS A RIGGED GAME FOR PC USERS. And theyre trying to take the money of the PS4 install base. It should not be allowed.

As far as it running “beautifully”… try doing a world event and killing a monster with tons of other players around. It will cause the PS4 version to lag quite badly.

I was removed from the SE forums for simply asking politely for a damage meter. After my 3rd time asking they just restricted my access.

I will respond to any and all claims against what ive said because it has to be known what a rigged and awful game this is Especially on the PS4 blog where they are trying to prey upon new PS4 players who dont know what theyre getting into when they hit 50 in this game.

  • I think they continue to support the elistist pc players because the elitist pc players are the bulk of the ones putting the youtube content up and building communities with their videos.

If they take away their damage meters their reaction wouldnt be pretty and would likely cause the game to collapse. So theyve driven themselves into a position where they have to give the PC players their advantages and then NERF the content severely for PS4 players to be able to down it.

PC players are getting tons of views on youtube for their “strategies” and their early completion on content because they have access to these meters. They are in no way more skilled than ps4 players. They just have access to meters that show them how to improve.

Since ps4 players do not have access to these meters they are forced to use youtube to learn how to play the game through the pc players. THus boosting their view and subscriber counts and reinforcing the whole dirty scheme they have going here.

  • It’s a really shameful situation that reflects very poorly on both Sony and Square.

Sony is at fault for letting Square make an mmo that does not allow for mods on the PS4.

Square is at fault for letting PC players tell them how to run their game.

  • If damage meters were truly illegal and not part of the game design, then Square would not allow PC players to use em.

Square has done nothing to stop PC users from using damage meters though. I’ve provided links to user Firana Magnus who to this day continues to post videos of using meters and they talk about using them 24/7 on reddit.

I probably wouldnt have cared that PC players only get to use meters if they didnt go on about meters EVERY DAY on the reddit. It’s literally the only thing the community talks about.

Paying for this game on a PS4 is asking to be treated like a 2nd class citizen. Period.

  • And yeah I am making alot of posts here on this discussion but thats because im defending myself against attacks on things i have said.

It has to be known what a scam this game is.

  • @ghost please get of this fourms ur a decrass to FFXIV no one cares about ur stupid rant can a mod delete this guy post

  • @ shortestpath ( who is surely to come back lurking)

Here’s a quote I found from you online in a quick google search.

“There is no reason to actually own a 360. The best gaming setup is a PS3 alongside a really good gaming PC that can run Dolphin and PCSX2. You get access to every good video game that has come out since Pong.

That said, if you’re a fifteen-year-old wannabe DUDEBRO, pick up a 360 to play halo/cod with your fellow DUDEBROs and keep away from the rest of us real gamers.” -TheSHortestPath from a League of Legends forum (children’s version of Dota2)

Recently psychologists studying aggression and narcisism found that “the most harmful belief that a person can have is that they’re superior to others. ‘Men are better than women, my race is better than your race, my religion is superior to your religion.’ When people believe they’re better than other people, they act accordingly”

No offense but you seriously have some issues when it comes to talking trash about people who play on consoles. This is probably rooted to some inadequacy you feel about yourself.

  • The worst part is that when they restrict our access to things like damage meters, they suppress us into fitting into “dude bro” category of player because we cannot use a tool like a damage meter to improve our gameplay.

Thus the negative stereotypes from entitled pc gamers are enforced.

  • @atkinsj7

Ive literally have had people add me as a friend from reading my posts here.

THeres still people on square enix forums asking for damage meters too.

I think i’ll stay. And i will make myself heard both here and on youtube leading up to the launch of this scam of a game.

  • Not everyone wants to drop 1,000s of dollars on a gaming pc.

Square Enix should just let damage meter addons be used on the PS4 if they are goign to continue to let pc users use them.

  • @Ghost

A parser does not make you a better player. A parser will not make mechanics go away. A parser does not make fights any easier. All a parser does is identify your dps. That’s it. It’s neither game-breaking or game-making. It’s a very simple tool that does not particularly add much to the game. You can clear any content in the game without a parser.

If you -really- want to see what your numbers are, befriend a PC player and ask them. That’s a pretty simple solution. Have them parse you, change your rotation, parse again and see if it was better.

I don’t see where this whole PC vs PS4 rhetoric has come from. I’ve never seen PC and console players arguing over platform of choice. I’ve never seen anyone put down a console player – especially since the PS4 runs the game about as well as mid-range computers. Considering there are PC players that use controllers, and console players that use keyboards, making a distinction is pretty pointless between the platforms.

  • @Ghost
You are very angry, and I suggest you let it go. Again, it’s not as if Square is providing a dps meter. These are THIRD PARTY applications that Square can’t do much about. Guess what would happen if they banned one of those youtubers? Everyone else in the game would still use meters, but would hide them in-game if they’re going to post videos. It would not change ANYTHING.

I would be very surprised if anyone could even program such an application on the PS4. I can basically guarantee Sony would never let such a thing happen. Think of how closed the PS ecosystem is. Square does not technically allow parsers on any platform. The only difference between PC and console is that third-party parsers exist on the former and not the latter.
