PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

You’ve been able to rent games through PlayStation Now for several months now, but many of you have asked –- what about a subscription? I’m pleased to announce that starting January 13th, we’ll launch a subscription service for PlayStation Now that will provide instant and unlimited access to a catalog of more than 100 PS3 games. And since you’re using PlayStation Now, you can enjoy the freedom to quickly discover and play a wide range of full games without downloads, installs, or patches (not to mention trips to the store). The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, and will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future.

You’ll be able to choose from two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99 (about $15 per month). The subscription provides access to a large and diverse catalog of PS3 games, ranging from action to RPG and everything in-between. Check out our launch trailer for a sneak peek.

PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details

We know that there are many PS4 owners who never owned a PS3 or had a chance to play some of the great games it offered, and this subscription provides an easy way to catch up on games you may have missed.
Want to try before you buy? Well, good news! We’ll also offer a free seven-day trial to the subscription program when it launches.

PlayStation Now subscription will have strong and growing support from our publishing partners, and at launch you’ll find great games in your catalog from the likes of SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, SEGA, and many others, including indie developers. Here’s a look at some of the key titles:

PlayStation Now subscription (US)

There’s strong value with the subscription, as you’re getting access to over a hundred great games and lots of hours of game time. What’s more, we will be adding even more games over time, so you will always have something great to play.

Also, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download the theme before January 31, you’ll be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now. I hope you will give the new PlayStation Now subscription a try, and I look forward to hearing your continued feedback as we grow the service.

  • I will certainly be using PS Now with this model opposed to the individual game pricing. But I have to ask if there are any plans to bring PS Now streaming to PC. I understand that may require programing to translate most PC gaming controller inputs, but if it one day becomes a reality, then I will definitely become a permanent PS Now subscriber

  • Will online only/online heavy games like MAG, SOCOM Confrontation, Gran Turismo 5 and White Knight Chronicles I & II be offered by the service?

I think PlayStation Now is a great idea for a service and can’t wait to sign up for it. Any chance to see games that were released in other regions (like Japan & Europe) available to US audience and US only games available to those regions through the service?

  • Pretty awsome!! Will there be Ps4 games also in the future???

  • hold on let me get this straight… There are currently 214 games available on ps now. Your sayign that when this launches next week, the service will have cut over 100 games, not added more?? that does not seem right to me..

  • Can i play the ps3 game on my ps4 ?
think about that for the people dont play ps vita and ps3?

keep the old plan and add the new one.
$20 for a month and $45 for 3 months if the one year fee is around $60 im ok with it
if not ill switch to xbox live $60 a year for sure. thats way overpriced.

  • One suggestion I’d offer is to look at what OnLive is doing with Cloudlift/Steam – offer a more limited subscription for those who want to play their eligible owned PS3 digital titles on PS Now. Perhaps extend this benefit only to PS+ members to further enhance PS+.

I’d happily pay $5-10 a month for that perk. The “Playpack”-style 100 games library is fine, but it’s not worth $15-20 a month to me when I already own many of these games on my (still-functioning!) PS3.

Pricing is better now than it was in the beta, but it’s still rather expensive.

  • While I am very happy to finally see a subscription service come to the PS NOW service I think more aggressive pricing would appeal to more PS4 users. The PlayStation community was so siked when Sony announced PS NOW and that smile quickly turned into a frown when we saw the pricing structure to play old games. many of which we already owned or got for free via PS PLUS.
In my opinion $10 a month would be the sweet spot. The 7 day trial is a great idea to give folks a chance to try the service so bravo for that Sony. I also agree there should be a yearly subscription tier in here somewhere and it should Definitely not be $179.96 that it would cost us now to purchase this service yearly. I think PS NOW could be HUGE for SONY and for the consumers. it could literally do for gaming what Netflix did for Movies.

  • any chance of KH 3 being added on the list?
    New games in general?

  • To all the people mad about paying for games they already own…give me one good reason Sony should or would want to let you stream your backlog for free. It ONLY costs them bandwith and money, and gets them nothing in return. If you want to play your backlog that badly, turn on your PS3. Rofl @ the users saying the service will fail if this doesn’t happen, as doing so would be the OPPOSITE of profitable.

  • Im so excited.2015 IS OFF TO A GREAT START. any plans for true crime streets of la and true crimes streets of New York?????

  • This is the real reason the PS4 is not backwards compatible. Thanks but no thanks. I’m glad I held on to my 20 years of Playstation games. And this is why I will always have my 60GB PS3 hooked up. The most money i ever spent on a console and still my best video game investment.

  • A decent beginning for subscriptions–I’m sure we’ll see adjustments to the pricing model over time (seems many people have feedback on that =)

However, I seriously think you should make PS1/PS2 games’ availability a larger priority than you seem to be. A large portion of the people who’d be early adopters (and enthusiastic supporters) of this service would likely already have a PS3 alongside their PS4, and for those people, the limitation of this service to a platform they already have physically significantly diminishes its value/attractiveness.

I know there are a lot of ‘converts’ to PS4 who may have never had a PS3, but it still seems like you’re kind of putting all your eggs in one basket by focusing only on one platform at this point. It also doesn’t deliver on that ‘awesome’ impression that this virtual service is truly an ‘archival’ service that users can expect to turn to for their retro/historic gaming needs.

It was fine to just focus on PS3 in the beginning phases of PS NOW, but it feels like now would be a good time to start expanding to all the earlier platforms available to Sony.

  • Finally! THIS is what many of us have been waiting to hear. Hopefully, there will be DLC availability, or included.

Definitely, some sort of PlayStation Plus/PlayStation Now monthly and 90 day combo would be super.

    But…

“will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future”

“Sigh” I hope sooner, rather then later. Believe it or not, i would love to have this on my PS3. Like…oh….now. Or sooner ;)

One major suggestion. If possible, try hard to not have too many titles leave. This happens with video streaming places, and it’s definitely an issue. Imho.

  • Please please please add ASURAS WRATH!

  • I wouldn’t get this every month but once they actually add some pre-ps3 games I’ll definitely get it from time to time. PS+ subscribers should get a discount. Or atleast maybe a free one week trial or something.

  • Also my physical PS3 collection is larger than that paltry amount that people are being charged for. Have fun paying hundreds a year on games you will never own.

  • Yeah, no way I’m paying for a service to rent PS3 games I already own as discs or digitally. Proper backwards compatibility is a must. Let us steam a game if we insert the old PS3 disc; let us stream games we’ve already bought digitally. As-is, with the limited selection of games, this is seriously overpriced.

  • Is Metal Gear a part of this Subscription? If so, count me in.

  • Ok I was pretty excited about this sence I always wanted Ps Now to have a subscription fee , but now that I realized that we wont be having all the games available in the subscription Im not interested anymore…Im not gonna pay $20 a month to get 100plus games out the 200plus games that they have and are old games to begin with..No thank you I’ll pass and plug my ps3 and continue buying my games at the store…This still needs work in my opinion I’ll just stick with the ps plus subscription

  • I think this is fantastic! $20 a month seems high until you look at how much is spent on games. $15 a month is a sweet spot as that is what many pay for a good MMO. A 6 month plan or a year plan may be a good way to go as well. Something like $78 for 6 months (about $13 a month) and $120 for a year ($10 a month). I know as a MMO Subber, I’m more likely to buy the higher months as I know they are a great deal. I do hope that there is at least a small discount ($2-$5 a month) for being a PS+ subber. The ability to play some of the older games I’m missing is too much to pass up. I will be joining in on this.

I do hope that you guys do cards for this (like with the PS+) as I really don’t like having my cc info anywhere online if I can help it.

  • looks like im never going to be getting a ps4 . . . they dont like poor people and they dont like people who pay as well. . .but they do like money..
my health is bad who knows how long i have to live. . .ty PlayStation for not making living any better.
ps 1 and 2 are the good days before DLC.

  • I am so excited for this!! Can’t wait until the subs become available :)

  • I definitely think PS+ members should get a discount. And a 3 month max plan is just too short. Some of us work full-time and go to school, paying $15 a month for something we want but won’ t have much time to use? It’s sort of like having a WoW account, which I do not.

Basically, extend possible plans, rework the pricing and add discounts for PS+ members.

  • I read that there is a pan now for ps4 but I can’t find it through the PlayStation app. Is there a link for this? Thank you

  • That should have said psn now theme. Stupid auto correct.

  • This is the future of gaming. Like the idea the price is a bit high meaning $140 for the year is too expensive for some gamers. Question do the online features work or are the games offline only? Hope you guys could come up with a more cheaper but fair annual price. Keep up the good work PlayStation

  • This is great for new Playstation fans… I’m not a big gamer but I do support & appreciate what Playstation offers. As long as Playstation continues to create physical copies, that’s where i’m staying! If they stop than I will join PS NOW!!!

PS+ users should get a discount say around $10 a month, than I would definitely sign up!

  • Will this service be in the UK also?

  • Great, but in what regions will it be available? Only US?

  • To all the people complaining about paying for games they already own… Netflix doesn’t give me a discount for movies I already own. Actually no subscription service does. It would be nice, but it’s not going to happen. The pricing for this isn’t bad. For 3 months it comes out to $21 a month for both Now and Plus. It would be even cheaper if I did the yearly Plus subscription.

  • Does PS Now have trophy support also?

  • I had come concerns when this debuted at CES ’14, but now that I’m seeing the breakdown…FANTASTIC!

I had been an avid GameFly subscriber and had some issues with title availability, discs going missing from the mail, discs arriving scratched to the point they’re unplayable, etc. It was often a nightmare that had me only playing the games far down on my list, rarely anything I had prioritized.

The 3 month plan that prices out at $15/month is perfect. Considering that price will remain and the library will grow, I’m not sure how the complaints are justified. I’m also seeing a really balanced selection of AAA retail releases, and amazing indie/PSN releases to choose from, so a win there as well!

  • a subscription plan is exactly what PS now needed. however the prices are still very high. basically its $180 for a year at best. There needs to be a yearly plan at a much lower price. $100 sounds fair to me. Maybe only offer that plan to PS Plus users.

i think you would get alot more people buying this if prices were. $15 one month, $30 three months $50 six months or $100 twelve months.

    Sincerely, All Hardcore Gamers

  • Honestly, the only PSNow program I’d be interested in would include streaming access to all games purchased by my account, and included with my PSN+ subscription. In other words, backward compatibility implemented through the streaming service. I may ever be willing to purchase another PS4 even through I already have a PSTV.

Until then, the amount I’m willing to pay is very close to $0.

  • This is great for people who never owned a ps3, but you still need a seperate subscription model for people who just want access to the games they already own. Set it at $10 a month an only give me access to games I’ve already purchased, and watch the money roll in.

  • I noticed how Peter is only answering those brown nosers who are complimenting the way too high subscription prices and asking about what games are on it, yet he is ignoring virtually every other post about the pricing being too high. Wonder why that is? ;)

  • What about adding support to the Xperia Z3?
You’d make my life if that happened.

  • So excited for Enemy Within!

  • Are added games going to be permanent, or will they be shifted out akin to how other video streaming services like Netflix pull content after the license expires?

I’d like to know that if I subscribed for a specific game, that it would continue to be there for the perceivable future. Otherwise, subscribing when games are periodically removed would change the game for many would-be users including myself.

I hope that content is always added, and never pulled.

    Thanks guys and gals!

  • Trophy support?
    DLC optional?
    PS Plus discount?
Will the same subscription stretch across PS Now devices or will we have to pay $20 for PS4, $20 for Vita, $20 for Samsung Smart TVs and so on?
Will old saves work if it was saved on the PS Cloud (previously played on PS3) ?
Will PS4 games start showing up there?
Will there be a 1 year plan?
Will you have a PS Plus and PS Now bundle?

  • Please bring the Tekken games to PS Now

  • Exactly what I believed the price would be. When the catalog grows over the next few months it might be worth checking out.

  • As a proud xbox one owner….I will probably be getting a PS4 because of this.

Can anyone confirm which games will be at launch?

  • Also, will this end the console era? As in there will be no Playstation 5, just stream games from Playstation approved devices.

  • So should I stop buying PS3 games on PSN because I have over 100 PS3 games on PSN right now. So why can’t them games I pay for carry over to Playstation Now. @230 people arnt talking about physical copies of games but digital copy that come from PSN. The money we pay for games on PSN go to the same company when you pay for Playstation Now. I think they should rethink Playstation Now. I know I might be of part of a small group that think this, but I don’t want Playstation Now.

  • Warhawk is on there? I thought the servers were shut down

  • Hurry up for the UK/EU version, takes the we have to wait so long.

  • Manhunt needs to be added asap!!!

  • You know what would be great right out of the gate? Have titles like Borderlands The PreSequel or Assassins creed Rogue.

  • I wish they had a discount for those of us who already have PS+. Can’t see myself paying $30/mo on games.
