UPDATE: PlayStation Network is back online. As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

In fact, to make it easier, just go into Network setup, Click Custom, then just keep clicking till you get to MTU, and choose Custom, then enter a new number between 1477 and 576.
Trying to sign in on ps4 and all am getting is The connection to the server has been terminated (NW -31194-8). What does this mean as it’s driving me mad?
So is it fixed now, or should my PS4 not being able to sign in still be considered a problem with the network?

1. Go to settings.
2. Go to Network.
3. Set up Internet Connection.
4. Choose wifi or LAN, whatever you use.
5. Choose CUSTOM.
6. IP Address – Automatic
7. DCHP – Do Not Specify
8. DNS – Automatic
9. MTU Settings – MANUAL
10. It will be set to 1500 BY DEFAULT. Click that, change it to 1450 or 1473. Press R2.
11. Click Next.
12. Proxy – Do Not Use
Done!

this is some BS i have tried everything from the suggested action all the way to changing the mtu and still cant sign in to psn. sony needs to compensating people for this. i spent way to much money on this console not to play.

I GOT DDOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was playing league play on black ops 2 and I got kicked offline. Took me 1hr to get my router back up! 1 HR!!!!! And gues what his name was… I_Booting_U
everyones personal advice on changing settings is appreciated, however, I choose to not attempt this route as Sony has not given instructions to its users to do this. Will it work?, do not know, but it could also cause system failures down the road or even security issues with hackers. For Sony to allow people to input fixes in its blogs is ultimately suggesting they approve of these methods. I personally am going down to the court house in my county and filing a small claims lawsuit against Sony for the cost of the system and Plus Memberships, along with penalties for mental anguish. They will have to send a lawyer to my County in my state to defend the action, or not show up and I win the case. Either way I win. I suggest you folks all do the same. This could have all been alleviated if they provided true support, but they don’t.

set everything to automatic & MTU 1473 no proxy server & skip connection test & go straight to PSN sign in & it worked for me

I couldn’t sign in for the last 4 days but this morning I tried the MTU change and I finally got through. I’m now having to wait 3 hours for an update to Destiny – the only game I own at the moment!!!

I am really disappointed, because of the fall of the service I could not even play offline, it’s a shame I can not use my digital games (all of them) I pay for every game and I have no licenses to use them? How can it be? hope you change this policy that is really absurd. I understand that every now and then for some reason the system get affected but not be able to use my games offline is too much.
Still can’t login on my ps4! When is Catherine Jensen actually going to change her statement from the 27th that the network is back online? Also isn’t it about time Sony actually told the truth about when there likely to be up and running and apologise for the poor communication and service!
