PlayStation Network Update

UPDATE: PlayStation Network is back online. As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

Thanks again for your support and patience. We’ll provide any further updates here.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.

From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.

If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

  • 1473 does work dont test the connection after done just turn off restart

  • I still can’t get online and have tried all other suggestions?

  • When I saw it still isn’t functioning this morning even after cycling routers and PS4 for the 12th time. Broke down and did the manual MTU workaround. I can sign in but most features are not working. Service has been out since 12/25. This is unacceptable for the number one console.
    People wondered when the Xbone might gain ground on the PS4? If this keeps happening it won’t be too long. My PS4 has sat quiet except when I tried to sign in twice a day, for the last 4 days. The rest of the time I’ve been playing Xbox live.

  • I’ve been trying to get online and play my games, but it won’t let me. It says I have to be signed into psn but i am, so I do the test connection to see if my WiFi connection is still up and running, which it is. The obtain IP address is fine tthe connection was fine but the psn sign in timed me out, but I’m already signed in. Then I just try and play GTA and go online from there which doesn’t work, cause it said I have to be signed in. And I tried to call and I kept getting hung up on. So who the hell do i have to talk to, to get this fixed cause I’m not paying you anymore money for the playtation plus if I can’t even use.

    2. Go to Network.
    3. Set up Internet Connection.
    4. Choose wifi or LAN, whatever you use.
    5. Choose CUSTOM.
    6. IP Address – Automatic
    7. DCHP – Do Not Specify
    8. DNS – Automatic
    9. MTU Settings – MANUAL
    10. It will be set to 1500 BY DEFAULT. Click that, change it to 1450 or 1473. Press R2.
    11. Click Next.
    12. Proxy – Do Not Use
    Done!

    Re start PS4

  • MTU change worked. do not hit test connection. no need to even restart. change MTU to 1473, then sign in.

  • HELLO, FROM ITALY. SINCE 25TH DECEMBER WE CANNOT USE ONLINE OUR PS4. BOUGHT ON OCTOBER, ALREADY SENT TO SUPPORT AS AUDIO WAS NOT WORKING, AND NOW IT’S 5 DAYS WE CANNOT PLAY ONLINE…. WITH PS4 AND 2 GAMES WE PAID MORE THAN 500 EUROS AND MOREOVER WE PAID FOR PLAYSTATION NETWORK FOR 3 MONTHS… WE ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH YOUR SERVICE AT ALL AND HOPE YOU WILL SOLVE THIS VERY LONG PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!

    Its so funny I have reset my hub and mtu and nothing just tried to log on 14:00 and no luck at all.

    So what are you going to do about it forget giving cheap games on the ps4
    We need you to really think about what you are going to do as you knew what was going to happen over 6weeks ago and did nothing about it.
    I know I would like to get 12 month’s free playstation plus for the inconvenience and full full price game.

  • It is about 5 days and still doesnt work , Try to find solution guys , fast as possible

  • The only setting being changed is the MTU, which stands for Maximum Transmission Unit. It just means that, the larger the number, the more efficient your data stream is. For some reason, the network can’t handle anything above 1477, if it ever did anyways. The Network is set to Automatic normally, which means the PS4 is supposed to be able to choose it’s own MTU. And right now, being in Automatic is like having two mirrors facing each other. That’s why you get a NW-31194-8. Manually setting it keeps the server from spitting back at you.

  • Everyone changing the MTU settings is the quick solve to this, you do not need to change it just to 1473, it is anywhere from range 1200-1499, if 1473 does not connect for you use any number in that range.

  • I have been able to log on since 12/27 in the afternoon. I am in south Louisiana. I did cycle my router and then logged back in to PSN. Have not had an issue since. Hope everyone who is still experiencing issues gets fixed. Sony, as a large conglomerate, there is no excuse for taking so long to get your network back up. Especially after first, being warned you were going to be DDoS’d on the busiest gaming day of the year, and second, taking way to long to get back on line, after being warned. Did you not take this serious? It’s not like you haven’t been hacked before. I know several people who have switched for fear of these issues from a paid service.

  • My Husband and I still can NOT log into our psn accounts and haven’t been able to do so since before christmas I got him 3 new games and 2 require internet access, needless to say he hasn’t been able to fully enjoy the games. When can we expect things back to normal in the New Hampshire region??
