As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

Whats crazy is PS4 users PAY to play and PS3 users don’t. Why is PS3 up while paying PS4 consoles are still down?
i still cant log into PSN this is starting to be frustrating i am getting withdrawls i thought this has been sorted out most of the people i know can log in to PSN and play what ever i am the only doos that cant play or log in most of my games or online games. this is total BULL****!!( my apologies for my fowl mouth but understand the frustrastion.!!!!
frankly its ridiculous, its totally wrecked our Christmas cause we haven’t been able to access most of the features on any of the games we have, and haven’t been able to download the digital games we received.
and to top it all off the Blu Ray feature doesn’t even work for us! it keeps skipping and refusing our disks! which is bad when all we got for Christmas was a big pile of games and blu rays.
AND now Sony have the cheek to put their phones off for maintenance so i cant even call to make them fix it!
so so annoyed.

Changed MTU to 1400 working fine now cheers guys
It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, and it’s not a problem with your internet, modem or router. All you need to do is go into your PS4 network settings, and manually change the MTU. Pick a number between 1477 and 576. There’s 900 for you to choose from. One of them is bound to work for you. If the network test doesn’t work right after, don’t panic, just turn the PS4 off, then turn it back on, and retest. That’s all I had to do.
If all else fails, keep trying different MTU #. Has to be something between 1477 and 576. For me, anything between 1478 and 1500 did not work, but I had everything below 1477 working.
All MTU does is it sets the size of your data transmission.
I just bought my PS4 and try to log in my PSN account and whenever I try it keep coming up with this following message: the
connection to the server has been terminated. (NW-31194-8).It’s PSN’s fault or my router’s??

FIXED!!! Change MTU to 1475 in network settings! Credit to flamey.
Network settings—>set up connection—>manual—>everything automatic until MTU—->change to 1475
Changing the MTU to 1473 worked for me

Still can’t log in my new PS4. System is on-line, updated, but will not sign in. Error code doesn’t help. Have even reset to defaults and set up again. VERY frustrating. What do I have to do to get this system up and running?

One big joke playstation, PS3 online, PS4 NW-31194-8. Reimbursement on the products bought will be the claim of the day. This will be the last playstation we will buy, PC gaming from now on.
I tried to log on to PSN first at 7PM CST in the US on December 28th, I tried several subsequent times and still received “connection to the server failed”. Is the failure still due to the attacks? I have friends who could get on but I couldn’t. I’m curious what is going on.

Now Monday, 5 days after the so called attack and they are telling everyone it is working. It is Not Working for mem either NW-31194-8 or CE-33992-6, both of which are Playstation Network issues. How does Sony Lie and everyone believes them?

I still can not log into PSN on my PS4 I tried resetting the system, restored default settings, changing MTU number, resetting my modem and still nothing! I can watch Netflix and Hulu but I can’t play online… I thought the network was supposed to be fixed
On 12/24 I received an email to pick 1 movie from 5 choices and I cant find where to redeem the voucher since it is 15 digits instead of 10
here it is Monday, December 29, 2014 and still cannot sign into psn. Sign in timed out. Live chat is not online, nor anyway to contact Sony. Alas, Sony has dropped the ball with customer service. Sort of like hiding behind voicemail. I totally understand the system outages were not the fault of Sony. However, their ways to be contacted by us that still do not have a way to sign in with no resolution is their fault. I’m happy for all you folks that may be online, and I’m sure I’m not the only person out there still unable to connect. Fix your contact means Sony, don’t hide behind a Sunday and make current paying customers of Plus memberships angry.

What an absolute joke, how are we supposed to trust you with our payment details if you get attacked so easily? What are you planning to do with these days of playstation plus that I have paid for on my old console but been unable to use since upgrading to a playstation 4 and how long until I can actually use my new console online ,it’s been 5 days now

1) go into settings,
2) go into network,
3) go into view connection status and note down your IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Primary DNS numbers,
4) go back and go into Set up Internet Connection,
5) choose between wi-fi or lan cable,
6) choose custom for internet connection,
7) choose your network,
8) choose manual and then add your values for all the things listed in point 2)
9) press next
10) MTU settings- choose manual
11) Change MTU setting from 1500 to 1477 or lower. Don’t be afraid to keep trying smaller numbers. Max MTU’s is 1500.
12) Proxy Server should be set to Do Not Use
13) Test Connection.
MTU can be anything between 1477 and 576. You’ve got 900 numbers to choose from, one of them’s bound to work for you. People have luck with 1475, 1473, 1450, 1400, 1200
