As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible.
From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible.
If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

If you still can’t get on try this little trick, settings>network>set up internet connection>custom> use all the normal setting except for the MTU setting, change that from 1500 to 1473, then save settings and reboot, hopefully you can log in then

Is back online??
Today is the 29th, here in Spain I still cannot log into my PSS account, nor the Store, nor playing online. WTF is going on????????? Are you guys only going to focus on the US market? What about us in Europe? Get your **** together, my patience is running out, incompetent morons!
29/12/14 Still cannot get online on ps4. I have tried checking psn status (currently Online) and restarting my router (currently at latest firmware version. I have signed out in the attempt to freshly sign back in but keep getting error code NW-31194-8, which tells me to check psn status and run internet connection test. After trying to test the internet connection test, it fails to complete the test as i cannot sign into psn. Username/password is correct as I am signed into this website.
If anyone else has resolved the same or similar issue, please could you help or direct me somewhere useful.

Wow, tons of negativity. Sure it sucks, I received a ps4 for Christmas that I’ve been itching to use over my time off. But heaven forbid I actually have to spend time with my family because the PSN is down. Maybe if people went outside for a walk instead, there would be less obesity in Murcia.
I have spent so much money on this system, accessories and games and im not happy, i booked time off work to play my new games i received for christmas. i coudn’t play any of them.
i’ve had no response from sony. not even “we are working on this problem”
i will be putting in an official complaint and i expect compensation!
i still cant log in to the psn network and when i ask for help all i get is its back on line but i guess you not got to iceland yet as its still down after 5 days now

The PSN was not hacked. It was DDOS’d.
The difference, in laymans terms, between these two is:
DDOS – A farmer lets his sheep out on the highway. There is a traffic jam.
Hack – Someone breaks into your car. Your wallet is stolen.
So you have no need to worry about your credit card details or personal information, as it could not have been accessed from a simple DDOS.
SECOND
The majority of your games are still playable!
Go to settings > Network and disable “Connect to the Internet”.
You can now play most games offline! Notable expections include FFXIV.
Network features such as party chat and messaging are unavailable.
THIRD
A method that has worked for some is changing the MTU.
To do do, go to Settings> Network and manually set your network settings.
You can change the MTU from 1500, to 1450, 1473, or anything else.
Please note, this method does not work for everyone.
Going on 5 days without psn now!? As I try to sign in it comes up with….. The connection to the server is terminated! Any help please??

My ps4 still won’t let me log into psn, it’s always either connection to the server has been lost or cannot connect to the server. It’s really starting to piss me off, I’ve been trying since psn has been back up.
When I use automatic MTU — NW-31194, i connect to the internet, but cant login to psn

PSN support team is the worst i have seen in ages I get that you were havked but for you to still be having trouble in keeping your net work up is ridiculous we are in the fourth day now and you still have not figured out the problem I am a sony product supported but sony needs to get a support team that knows what they are doing If lizard as children under the age of 18 hacking you you might want to start hiring some of them.

I love you guys and ive been a fan since the ps one but seriously even if you guys were only in it for the money Microsoft has you guys beat when it comes to network support and lots of fans have given up PlayStation because of stuff like this. I wish that you guys would employ people who knew what they were doing and cut the people who are dragging your company down because PlayStation is built for games while xbox is not even a gaming console just a over priced cable box with amazon fire and some semi decent games.Understand that when you guys mess up, you lose alot of money along with the companies that make the actual games who decide to screw everyone over by rushing games for due dates lossing even more money. the play station 4 is great i love it but alot of what i can do since i only have one game is limited since you guys still have to fix these errors. tthe Xbox one is just an over priced 15 pound ipod that connects your tv. You guys made far better console its your time to prove it Sony, do it your fans, do it for the millions of dollars we will spend if you ,make us happy at-least do it because its the right thing to do. please read this.

As someone suggested below you guys should be more open with what is happening and the status, like a country map or City showing the status. And also I’m pretty angry that I pay for a service and during the holiday for 3 days you guys don’t say anything or repeat the same lame message.

It’s been down for four days and you still haven’t fully fixed your network, which I say again, we now have to pay for… Thousands of people would have got a PS4 for Christmas yet you go down that day and take your time fixing it. You say the network is back so why do I and many other people still get the same bloody message ‘the connection has been terminated’ every time I log in. And how are you going about fixing this? Each PS4 one by one? Because every one who I know who owns a PS4 can connect to the network and still I cant…
