Preview October’s Free Game Lineup
Update: We know many of you were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition and we are truly sorry for the delay. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

For the past two months, PlayStation Plus members have received a couple games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store, and this time we’re besting ourselves by offering three! Yep, this month Dust: An Elysian Tail (PS4), Spelunky (PS4) and Pix the Cat (PS Vita) will debut on the Store as well as in PlayStation Plus. On top of that, there’s a special bonus this month – members get DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition (if you want to upgrade to the regular retail version you can for $49.99), which gives them access to 11 tracks, 10 cars and all the game modes. Finally, members will receive the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum as well as Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Rainbow Moon.

PS4 owners can check out the Metroidvania-inspired Dust: An Elysian Tail, as well as the hit platformer Spelunky — which also entitles you to the PS3 and PS Vita versions. On PS3, our members can see where the Arkham franchise started with Batman: Arkham Asylum, as well as enjoy a bundle of classic arcade Dungeons & Dragons games with Chronicles of Mystara. For your PS Vita, we’ve got a new addictive arcade game for you in the same vein as Snake and Pac-Man called Pix the Cat and a beautiful, epic strategy RPG Rainbow Moon.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting October 7th. Watch the video below to see these titles in action.

  • I dont own a ps4 or vita these ps3 games ive already played them or i didnt want them I GOT BATMAN AA THE DAY IT CAME OUT i like free stuff but not this (crap) lets hope november has a better choice of free stuff

  • Rainbow Moon and Dust!

  • Loving this lineup! :) SUPER excited to play Rainbow Moon, Dust, and Spelunky! :) I’m a sucker for rpgs and platformers!

  • @Gamerzlimited/SolidZone_26: Yeah, I hear what you’re saying. To me, it really doesn’t matter. There are some who are rude to “whiners” against Sony and their products/services (PS Plus, the IGC, etc.). There are others who are rude in the other direction. They argue with anyone who *does* like the games or has anything positive to say. And so on. I just think it’s all a bit lame no matter which side of it you may be on.

We all like what we like and dislike what we dislike. We can find better ways of saying so than what we find in this space every month (or every week in the case of store updates and sales).

But I’ve heard your points and you’ve heard mine. Maybe that’s all we can ask of each other.

As you know, I *try* (not always successfully) to post helpful info for those who seek it. And I *try* to stay out of arguments since I don’t much see the point.

  • Does “cross-buy” for Spelunky mean it will also be downloadable on Vita and PS3 if purchased on PS4 through PS+?

  • I started to get the feeling that PS3 owners were getting the short end of the stick with PS plus free games but now I see that Sony just uses these games as the mint on the pillow the morning after… after they already have your money and you’ve been…

  • I remember when I first subscribed to Plus and we had October/Halloween sales and games. It was phenomenal. It now seems that you’re primarily plugging gimmicks or indies. Are these the only games we have left? With such extensive catalogs, why haven’t we seen better offerings? I like PS Plus and won’t revoke my subscription for the repetitive offerings, but it’s almost as though you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel and then reading from a script to maintain enthusiasm. As an adult gamer, I’m disappointed with Sony. Much love, but just not for today.

  • I can’t wait to play Driveclub. I have high hopes and it’s a good sign if they are willing to give you a massive demo first.

When can we see some older full priced PS4 games on Plus though? Like The Knack or an older NBA title. Most of the arcade games given away so far have been pretty useless.

  • RAINBOW MOON?! i always wanted to play that game i just bought Castelvania LOS 2 the other day. This is gonna be a fun week. lol

  • Awesome month of games! Thank you!

  • Hi all,

Should anyone tell me that exact hour for the release of Plus members free games on October 7th?

  • Hmmm, it seems that Gamerz’s comment are finally showing up. If that’s the case, I must not be banned and my comments are going to be awaiting approval from now on. I sent an email to blog moderators just to make sure.

@ThumbsOfSteel74 I see, you really are something if you can ignore both sides.

It’s not that I don’t like to see them complain, it’s because they repeat it over and over again. In Cradda’s case, he speaking for others along with it. He’s judging all people that they hate indies too including myself, which is not the case of some of these comments. I don’t want to be a part of that category, so I have to be rude to him to prove my points across.

I just wish I can be like you. But knowing my reputation of the blog here, I don’t think I can and I felt like I made too many enemies (They’re still out there). I’m better off being who I am.

Anyway, well now you know the name I really go as. If I still have problems trying to comment here and I need a reply from someone, I’ll post them as this account. You’ll know it’s me.

  • Very cool line up, the people who post negatively about the monthly line ups should realize that these games are generous freebies given to us for having online membership. Pence is paid for multiple games across multiple platforms aswell as loads of other benefits. Anyway, BRING ON THE MAGIC!!

  • Any1 knows why isn’t the games appearing on my PS+ free game options? I have downloaded drive club just recently but I can’t seem to find the rest of the game on my ps4! Please help!

  • 7:40 AM PST which means it’s much later everywhere else. Where are the games? Usually available the night before

  • I really don’t understand…it’s October. You’re Sony. The PS1 and PS2 had some of the greatest survival horror games ever made…and you don’t take advantage of that? You could have done a classic horror month and put out the original Silent Hill games (promotion for Silent Hills and the PS4 having PT) or maybe the Resident Evil collection of the first 3 PS1 games. Siren Blood Curse? Fatal Frame series? The options are enormous…and you give us standard games that could have been released at any given time before now.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about what I’m getting. I’ll still download Spelunky. Batman: AA isn’t really a bargain though, considering you can buy a physical copy for about $4 or $5 anyways. Dust is also a great game…but I played it years ago on my 360. Drive Club…is a racing game. Eh. lol I’m sure there’s plenty of people that are happy with this month’s offerings…I’m just not one of them, but at least people will be playing them and that’s all that really matters in the end. I’m just kind of disappointed that there wasn’t anything Halloween-month related.

  • It’s so nice to see publishers putting faith in their games by making things like drive club ps+ edition available. To me this is much better than timed trials and demos before I shell out hard earned dough on a game I’ve only seen reviews or YouTube videos for. For me it’s so important for the game to feel responsive on the controls and that’s something you don’t get to know unless you play them. I hope to see this much more in the future.

  • When does DriveClub Ps+ vrs come out? Or am i not seeing it?

  • Put Ni No Kuni as a free PS3 game, that would be cool!

  • Been a PS Plus member for a while, that’s it for me, my last month. I’ve noticed a serious downgrade on all Free Games for the past 2 years. So long PS PLUS.

  • Its 12pm and Still no update on the ps store?!?!? When are we getting our games?

  • Ive been waiting since midnight to download them. Why theyre no available yet??? It’s suppose to be out in this date

  • When can I get the free games? It’s already Oct 7th, but there is still no update…

  • I’m not seeing the update on my Vita (new PS+ games at least).

THANKS FOR THE THEMES! Four Seasons is my favourite.

  • And it’s 12:48pm here right now. Normally the games are there (or the PS Store is down due to traffic jams).

  • October 7th was solely when they WANT to get the free games out, that does not mean they will come out today like they want. Also, it is NOT a static date for when they come out, it varies, so it could still be a few more days or so untill they are out. Just be patient. I can have patience so long as i know the games, and now i do. I’ll be trying out this Rainbow Moon game sometime.

  • Dont mind the selection….rather try games for free and see how they are then buy them myself. 50 bucks a year for discounts and an average of 60 free games a year isnt bad. Cant please everyone I guess.

  • +427… I’ve been a PS+ member for numerous years, and I’ve never seen this before. Lay off the glue.

  • Hiw many time more we can start download new line up

  • Seriously there are literally tons of PS3 games that are not too old so that people either have it already or are not interested at all, tons!

Batman Arkham Asylum is a very bad choice, and the other choice are weak as well (especially seing how Dust is missing from PS3 cross-buy).

PS+ AAA games or AA indie (because yes, the August line-up was massive and of very good taste in terms of indies, but that’s why it’s the only time it was acceptable) need to be just old enough so that the price has come down, and those who were really interested or willing to spend the money, but recent enough so that most of the people still didn’t find an interest enough or the willingness to buy it discounted yet but are interested still, if we are talking about a worthy game of course.

The problem with the new PS+ format it seems, is that Sony can’t make it an equilibrated offer by offering 2 average or good enough AAA games that would make it okay and lever with one great AAA game.

  • i am a PS Plus member and yet there is still no way to download the PS Plus Edition

  • Can anyone tell me at what time today these will be up on PSN it’s currently 10:43 AM in Arizona and I’ve yet to see the titles on there yet

  • 1:48pm here and still nothing, guess we have to check later tonight or tomorrow ?

  • Hey Kristine I was wondering why the PlayStation store hasn’t updated today because it is October 7th today and its the first Tuesday of the month. Or will the free PlayStation plus games be posted tomorrow?

  • Thanks for the free games

  • #430… Care to explain why everyone’s posting about the lack of an update?

Also, care to use capital letters in your writing at any point in your life?

  • @428 Same reaon no one is posting what time the store will be updated because its the same time every week. click on the playstation store icon and look up evey single playstation store update for the last 8 years and u know it all gets updated at about the same time every week I

  • I assume “morons” was the word of the week on Sesame Street or something.

This moron here knows that the PS Store is updated by this point in the month/day, and it’s not yet.

If you’re so adamant about your information, what time can we expect content on the PS Store?

  • nope same time every single week look it up

  • that time has not come yet look it up

  • Bout anytime between 3pm and 8pm.

  • Driveclub is locked right now in the store, you can’t access it. Looks like they are updating!

  • Damn all free games but Driveclub are up on the store now :/ wonder how long we’ll have to wait for it…

  • When are the games going to be released?

  • Spelunky on Vita / and this is the best Batman for me. Thanks Sony!

  • Okay. So I got Spelunky and Pix the Cat on vita for free just now, so where is Rainbow Moon? I though it is going to be free too?

  • When do they come out?!? Its already 3:30 EDT

  • 450 – Rainbow Moon cross save bundle is free.

451 – They are up but you have to search for them.

  • Excellent! Any news on when on the 7th these titles will go live? Tried to access the store this morning to start downloading DriveClub while I was away at work but didn’t see it. Cheers!

  • Arkham Asylum, really? I love getting games that I’ve already owned for the last 5 years. These last 5 or so months have been so disappointing. Thank God for my Gamefly subscription because Sony is letting me down hard.
