Preview October’s Free Game Lineup
Update: We know many of you were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition and we are truly sorry for the delay. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

For the past two months, PlayStation Plus members have received a couple games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store, and this time we’re besting ourselves by offering three! Yep, this month Dust: An Elysian Tail (PS4), Spelunky (PS4) and Pix the Cat (PS Vita) will debut on the Store as well as in PlayStation Plus. On top of that, there’s a special bonus this month – members get DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition (if you want to upgrade to the regular retail version you can for $49.99), which gives them access to 11 tracks, 10 cars and all the game modes. Finally, members will receive the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum as well as Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Rainbow Moon.

PS4 owners can check out the Metroidvania-inspired Dust: An Elysian Tail, as well as the hit platformer Spelunky — which also entitles you to the PS3 and PS Vita versions. On PS3, our members can see where the Arkham franchise started with Batman: Arkham Asylum, as well as enjoy a bundle of classic arcade Dungeons & Dragons games with Chronicles of Mystara. For your PS Vita, we’ve got a new addictive arcade game for you in the same vein as Snake and Pac-Man called Pix the Cat and a beautiful, epic strategy RPG Rainbow Moon.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting October 7th. Watch the video below to see these titles in action.

  • Im fairly excited to play a couple of these titles, some not so much, due to either owning it already or lack of interest, but still good for those interested. If i could just put a personal point, im loving some of these indie titles, and i’d like to see more despite others screaming for you not to, but that being said i’d like to see octodad:dadliest catch or maybe surgeon simulator, if thats possible. Other then that, i’d say I’m slightly dissapointed by some of this line up, but i am appreciative none the less, they are ”free games”, so thats nice at least.

  • If I could cancel Plus for a month and renew the next month. It would definitely be this month. So much garbage and why are we receiving Batman AA after getting Batman AC a few months ago? Games with Gold is way better this month than Plus. Not to mention Driveclub isn’t going to sell well, that is why they’re giving the plus edition for free. Gran Turismo sells consoles, not Driveclub.

  • Big improvement over the past few months. Three games here I’ll definitely enjoy. :$

  • Another disappointing month *sigh*

  • I wouldn’t call Driveclub a BONUS since it was promised a year ago… But hey! The wait is almost over!

  • The amount of whining is always astounding. You get better discounts on sales, free games, exclusive betas, and yet you whiner still find something. See you next month especially those plus members who have a ps4 and expect full retail games when we aren’t in a full year of its life cycle

  • Definitely odd to see Arkham Asylum instead of Arkham Origins, considering the middle game was Plus last year. I scratched my head. But for those who haven’t played any of the Arkham games, that’s pretty awesome. A fantastic game that came out of nowhere years ago and became make the first comic-book superhero game I’ve ever loved. (The next two were great as well.) To those who haven’t played it, enjoy!

  • Not bad this month….better than the last couple.

Rainbow Moon definitely has my attention. I also used to own Arkham and lost it, so I’d like to finish it.

Stiiiiiiill would like to see one of the Atelier games on PS+

  • Not too impressed with the PS3 games either. Everybody who wants to has played Batman Arkham Asylum a long time ago. The D&D game is even OLDER!! I’m seriously considering cancelling my subscription. I probably would but I still have a pretty massive backlog of games to play. The best thing about the service is definitely the sales… picked up Ratchet and Clank Into the Nexus for like $8.00, The Wolf Among Us for $10 and Borderlands 1 for $4.99 to name a few.

Keep up the great sales, just improve the free PS3 games or I might not stick around.

  • Man, all these people crying over free games. Makes me depressed

I think it’s a great month and I will definitely be replaying Batman again.

    Thanks PS Plus Crew!

  • This is the best month in the last year and there have already been some really good ones (if you’re a Real gamer). My PS4 is probably going to break this month from overwork.

  • Loving the cross-buy games, since I still own a PS3! Keep them coming!

  • Nice games except for Arkham Asylum, i think you can offer a better PS3 Games. This PS+ month will be great specially for PS4!

  • My vita is so Happy every month

  • What? No horror games for October? That’s disappointing. Glad I held of on buying D&D though.

  • This game should be complete, that give us a plus version? It was a game out and now they give us half the game, bad move goodbye ps +

  • Hasn’t Arkham Asylum been offered before? Or was it just part of a PSN sale a while ago? I know I picked it up at some point.

  • Terrific lineup, I applaud you Sony I applaud you. =]

  • I bought a PS4 about 3 months ago and have been depressed every time the PS+ lineup comes out. I DL the games, but never play them more than once. Maybe the racing game won’t be a Zynga type game asking for more money to get any good at it.

  • The point of PS+ has almost always been to bring gamers and games together. Not big, AAA games that everyone bought and that you already bought or know you want. But rather, games that you ignored because they didn’t meet some ridiculous metric that you set forth in your head, like it needing to have at least 100 people work on it, or it having to cost at least $5 million to make.
Complaining about getting these games with PS+ without actually playing them is defeating the purpose of the program. The $50 yearly subscription is not meant to completely replace the need to buy retail releases. It is meant to complement standard retail releases with amazing games that you didn’t know about, or that you missed. Thankfully, Sony isn’t listening to the vocal minority that CraddaPoosta referred to around the internet, as they have their own metrics and surveys to base their decisions off of.

While Dust is the ONLY game on the list I have any interest in, I’m fine with that. I own 4 of the other 6, don’t care about Driveclub, and probably won’t have time to play a score-chaser like Pix. But I really, really wanted Dust on PS4, so this is an absolute win for me. Thank you Sony, for doing what you do.

  • Mostly junk. At least we get the binding of Isaac rebirth next month!

  • More ps4 games I will not download. I thought we would be getting some scary like games considering its October. The best game there is Batman. Terrible month

  • Was hoping we would see a few Playstation TV (Vita TV) compatible games for the launch.
Next month or on oct 14th maybe?

A Playstation TV sale or some PSN free’s would be nice as a promotional.

  • Another boring month for playstation plus.
Since the PS Vita only has android games, could launch an app to mirror the screen of the Vita on tv …
    PS + decadent …

  • Keeping an open mind about this month so far, though there hasn’t been much on the IGC I’ve been interested in for a while.

DriveClub: Was very interested in this as a launch IGC title…now 11 months later, with me still deep into Destiny and Madden, and wanting to dive into Mordor and Diablo? Unless this is really the bee’s knees, I’ll probably play it very little.

Spelunky: Already own, but got it for $3 a year ago due to a PS+ discount for the Vita. Was in my top 5 games last year on PS platforms. Great to see it coming to PS4. And, having DriveClub this month eases the “pain” of already owning it.

Dust: Not at all interested in this. But I’m willing to give it a try. Though I am still backed up on some other IGC titles (like Strider and Velocity 2X)

I’m not playing my PS3 any more, but I loved Arkham Asylum. Hope others give it a go since it’s free. I would be pretty disappointed with the Dungeons and Dragons choice…but I don’t care about the PS3 offerings.

  • “Hasn’t Arkham Asylum been offered before? Or was it just part of a PSN sale a while ago? I know I picked it up at some point.”

Looks like it was on sale in July 2013. Because yeah, I was confused for a second as well. Coulda sworn it was already on Plus. But nope. Grabbed it for $5 last year.

  • Continued from above:

    Vita:
I’ll try Pix the Cat on either Vita or PS4. I predict I will play this once and put it down. (I’m happy to be proved wrong. I finally played Velocity Ultra on Vita, which was free however long ago, and it was amazing. Playing it on a couple 2-hour plane rides, I could hardly put it down, and I’m almost done with it now. Maybe Pix will grab me, too…)

Rainbow Moon is a game I’ve thought about frequently at a $20 price point, but just have such a backlog on Vita (including Dragon’s Crown) that I haven’t jumped at it yet. Excited to give it a shot.

So, not my favorite lineup. But there are 4 games (DriveClub, Dust, Pix, Rainbow Moon) that I will try new that I may never have gotten around to without PS+. That’s why I enjoy the service.

Though, I wouldn’t complain about seeing Knack or Killzone on here…

  • Another VERY disappointed month…

  • ****** Games for 3 months except for Batman but kinda old dont you think? Seriously very disappointing now i know that next time when i need to renew the subscription I will certainly not do that.

  • Pretty poor month for PS3-only users. Rainbow Moon is the only thing I’m looking forward to. Arkham Asylum? Really? Is there anyone left who hasn’t played this game by this point? Would prefer AAA titles that are either newer or were somewhat overlooked on their release — not a superpopular game everybody and their grandma has already played. Oh well. Thanks for Rainbow Moon.

  • When are we gna get non-indie games for PS4? You guys could’ve given up Knack, Lego Marvel, or even Metal Gear. Als you guys gave us Batman: Arkham City a coupled months ago, and instead of giving us the $20 Arkham Origins you guys go the wrong direction with Arkham Asylum!

  • ps4 owner here and I just want to say dang ;( I hope Nov is better because the compeition is.

  • I would be excited for Rainbow moon except that I bought it during the sale a few months ago. It’s funny how games like Injustice and AC:BF are speculated but we get…this.

  • Spelunky and an extended demo of drive club, I am excited for this. If I could make an observation, maybe we (Playstation,) could aim for maybe one full retail game a month?I like the idea of these indie games but they mostly go unplayed, put something fun and fulfilling in our hands once a month!!

  • Lame lineup, honestly…. this is getting stupid

  • What a joke!

  • Darn, it’s Rainbow Moon. I didn’t like the demo all to well. Oh well, I still have Pix the Cat and Batman for my PS3! Thanks people’s!

  • Wow more bs indies when are you (sony) gonna get on the ball and release something that is actually worth getting. Holy crap Drive club that would be great if it was a game that you could do more to the cars than just paint them. Makes no since that everything out including Destiny is garbage good game till you hit level 20 then its like um no you cant go any farther without dedicating your life to it so tired of it. Come on sony get it together i have been with you since ps1 and its never been like this before, hate xbox but at this point really thinking about switching just to have something decent to play. Wheres the games like dying light, The order, planetside 2, and kingdom under fire 2 that where suppost to be out already o thats right there next year now come on get it together

  • Great month! I have none of these games. =D

Even if I did have some or all, or weren’t interested in them, I still think it’s cool. It’s a great deal.

  • Another amazing month! I have finished BAA but it’s been so long since I played. Otherwise everything else is something I don’t have. Really looking forward to giving Driveclub a test drive! Thanks Sony!

  • I’m so happy Dust will be out for free, I was thinking of buying that game. Long live Metroidvania!

  • Another really terrible month for PlayStation Plus. Ever since the change to PlayStation Plus it’s gotten worse & worse.

  • Are they going to be available today or next Tuesday?

  • I thought all the games were supposed to be available from the 1st of the month after the change in July. Why the 7th this month? Just release the games you can release, if for some reason you can’t release all of them on time.

  • They’re not available for download yet

  • if we like DriveClub what would we have to do to upgrade to the full version? and if we got the full version would everything we did from the free version move over

  • Well, at least it’s better than September’s lineup.

  • I don’t think players are seeing the full picture here when it comes to seeing older games being released on PS+. I see it as a chance for players to get games for free, obviously, that they haven’t played in a long time because they either traded them in, myself being one of them so I’m glad Batman: A.A. is finally making an appearance, or they borrowed it off a friend and never finished it. Plus it’s free for crying out loud, it may only save you a few measly notes but it’s worth it in the end.

  • “I thought all the games were supposed to be available from the 1st of the month after the change in July. Why the 7th this month?”

First Tuesday of every month. This month, that’s the 7th.
