Preview October’s Free Game Lineup
Update: We know many of you were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition and we are truly sorry for the delay. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

For the past two months, PlayStation Plus members have received a couple games free the day they hit the PlayStation Store, and this time we’re besting ourselves by offering three! Yep, this month Dust: An Elysian Tail (PS4), Spelunky (PS4) and Pix the Cat (PS Vita) will debut on the Store as well as in PlayStation Plus. On top of that, there’s a special bonus this month – members get DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition (if you want to upgrade to the regular retail version you can for $49.99), which gives them access to 11 tracks, 10 cars and all the game modes. Finally, members will receive the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum as well as Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Rainbow Moon.

PS4 owners can check out the Metroidvania-inspired Dust: An Elysian Tail, as well as the hit platformer Spelunky — which also entitles you to the PS3 and PS Vita versions. On PS3, our members can see where the Arkham franchise started with Batman: Arkham Asylum, as well as enjoy a bundle of classic arcade Dungeons & Dragons games with Chronicles of Mystara. For your PS Vita, we’ve got a new addictive arcade game for you in the same vein as Snake and Pac-Man called Pix the Cat and a beautiful, epic strategy RPG Rainbow Moon.

All of these games will be free for Plus members starting October 7th. Watch the video below to see these titles in action.

  • Drive Club is good, except for the fact that it appears to be some kind of partial version… But maybe it’s one of those freemium games.

The rest are disappointing. Arkham Asylum, really? The oldest of the Arkham games? DnD, a game nobody wants unless it’s free…

This is 3 months of disappointment in a row, I don’t play games online with my PS4, I sub to PS+ for the free games, but when the PS+ games are constantly outshined by XBL Games for Gold I find no reason to maintain my sub.

  • DUST
wow, that game looks very cool; i’m excited to get it next week. i’m surprised i’ve never heard of it before.

    SPELUNKY
i’ve heard of spelunky being really hard, but i might as well try it out anyways.

    DRIVECLUB
i’m not really into racing games, but i’ll try driveclub as well. that game does have nice graphics from what i’ve seen.

    PIX THE CAT
looks pretty cool. i’ll try anything that has kitties in it =3

    ARKHAM ASYLUM
great game, but i can’t imagine a lot of people that haven’t played it already.

i still liked it better when the IGC preview was on the last thursday of the month, though. i also don’t like that we have to wait another week for these games just because the first day of october happened to be a wednesday. couldn’t we have just gotten these yesterday?

  • This is my first month with PS+ gotta say I see a lot of value already, can’t wait to check out Driveclub I skipped GT6 becuase I planned to make the leap to the Ps4.

  • Oh please, there’s nothing wrong with this line up. So what Arkham Asylum is old. I don’t see how people can whine “everyone played/has it already”. How many of you know all 85+ million PS3 owners around the globe to make that claim?…..didn’t think so.

“I’m not gong to renew my subscription blah blah blah”….I notice a good number of you have been making that same threat for over a year now. What does THAT tell you lol?

I had 3 of the games mentioned up there and you don’t see me whining. Do you know WHY? I’ll tell you. It’s because unlike most here, I UNDERSTAND the world doesn’t revolve around me and that it’s a toss up every month as to what’s free and what’s not.

Some of you are just getting out of hand with the whining lol

  • Why does the PS4 and Vita get new games but the PS3 get old titles?

  • Good month for PS+.There is some people that post on here that you can never seem to please no matter what games are offered.

  • I really have to wonder how many of the “Indie Games = Garbage no one cares about” crowd has even tried downloading and playing the games. Or if they really think if they just complain enough, it’ll be brand new AAA games every month. (After all, this month they did complain about an old AAA game because it was old… then about a day 1 indie game because it was an indie)

And for those suggesting it, a “list” of games to pick from will never be offered. These games don’t pop out of nowhere… Sony has to pay money to developers to use them… which is why you’re not getting much in terms of AAA for PS4.

Me, I have Dust and Arkham Asylum (and this was after beating it on PS3) on PC from Humble Bundles, but it’s still a good month.

  • Driveclub is just a wolf in sheep’s clothing, yeah sure it’s got trophies but try getting them with the 1985 Volkswagen beetle or equivalent that is free. If it’s not a demo then I’d hate to see one. Stop giving free “games” and make psn free again, we all know the profit isn’t going towards improving the service (where is YouTube?). Stop forcing us to pay $50 a year for $2 games most people won’t even play.

  • B-O-R-I-N-G !!!!!!

  • If I could change one thing about PS+, it would be to allow subscribers who have already received a game “free” as part of their paid subscription to take advantage of the sales that you offer throughout the year on those same titles.

I might not keep my PS+ subscription forever, but, being a paid subscriber should not exclude me from permanently purchasing digital versions of the games that I WANT to buy.

There is no reason that you would prevent me from giving you more money, but that’s what is going on right now. You’ve lost at least ten sales from me, alone, because you won’t allow me to purchase games that were included in the IGC.

    Please fix this.

  • whine whine whine you’re all wimps lol the total value of PS+ in the last year has been WELL over your $50 roughly valued at *drum roll please* a whopping $7500 in free games so quit complaining about free stuff

  • crappy as expected. Next month now.

  • Hahahaha, ahh, pathetic. If I didn’t have a backlog of quality games on Plus already then I would have absolutely no reason to be subscribing anymore, honestly.

BTW, the world doesn’t need yet another lifeless, generic little racing game. It really doesn’t.

  • Ps plus was a great service for the ps3.. now it’s getting more and more disappointing. . I will be dropping this soon. Pay to play online for ps4.

  • I cannot believe what I’m seeing in the comments section… These are all really good games, I can’t stand how much people are complaining about them. First off PS4 doesn’t Have the massive List of games that PS3 does so they can’t pull AAA titles out of their *** and the indies that they have been giving out have been phenomenal, Once PS4 has passes year two then you can ***** about no AAA titles. Second for the PS3 yeah arkham asylum is an old game but personally I’ve never even played it along with countless others so maybe to you its old, but to give them crap for giving a old game that is a treasure in many people’s hearts… thats just wrong. Honestly how rude can you people be? All sony does is give and all you guys do is complain cause its not your favorite flavor or in the case of firmware they aren’t putting in exactly what you want and when you want it. Seriously go buy another console or pc or go outside and play because I’d rather not meet up with you in matchmaking. #UngreatfulGamers

  • Honestly cannot wait to give Driveclub a shot. I’ve been looking forward to that for awhile now!
Haven’t ever had the chance to look into Rainbow Moon so I will definitely be giving that a shot. Not to mention I have Spelunky already on PlayStation Vita so hopefully this will give me a chance to try it out with the Dualshock 4. Nice job guys! Thanks for the awesome Plus additions!

  • Certainly not the best lineup, but definitely isn’t the worst for Ps4. Almost every month has sucked previous to this one, especially last. However thank you for the free games. Drive Club is a big step up. I’m not much of a racing person, but I will play it. Hopefully we aren’t too limited with the free version.

P.S. We need more Jrgs and other J games.
    Thanks for not being Microsoft

  • @marcosplaysbass The difference is that I wouldn’t have bought 90% of the games to begin with, so the value to me is minimal. It’s valued at $7500 because of it’s overpriced mobile games. I’ve been a subscriber since plus started and the games given before were much more “valuable”. The service is on a downswing, I would have no problem signing up for EA access where you get to play real games, oh yeah Sony blew that one.

  • I stand corrected, this is currently the best lineup for Ps4

  • Appreciate the games we are getting. I just want to say we got Arkham Asylum through plus before. I would suggest it doing a repeat of some sort maybe offer a month where is a classic plus release or something where this newer to plus can get some great stuff for the mouth and this older know we hit get a chance to get something we missed.

  • This is awesome, Dust looks awesome, i always wanted to try spelunky, and of course #DRIVECLUB. looking foward to Pix the cat too.

  • Well…now I’m regretting having Dust and Arkham Asylum on my crappy PC…but to heck with it, Dust is awesome enough to play through again =P

  • So PS4 owners get a couple of indies and a demo. Luckily I have a PS3 and a Vita (hey Sony, remember the Vita) so I’ll get my monies worth – because if I only had a PS4, I’d be quite disappointed. Again.

  • Excellent!

  • Is Dust PS4 exclusive or is there a PS3 version as well? Considering that there was an XBLA version of Dust I can’t see why it couldn’t have one.

  • Weak lineup. Even more pathetic that after a year delay, Drive Club for PS Plus members dont even get 1/7 of the game. PS dosnt give a **** about us.

  • Pretty nice lineup of games this month. Definitely better than last month (Velocity 2X was the only worthwhile game).
Thanks for Spelunky, Rainbow Moon, and D & D: Chronicles of Mystara. Here’s my wishlist for future IGC games:

    PS3 games:
    The Last of Us
    Final Fantasy 13-2
    Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13
Red Dead Redemption – Game of the Year
    Catherine
    Darksiders 2
South Park: The Stick of Truth
    Rain
    L.A. Noire
    Beyond: Two Souls
    Dead Space Extraction
    Infamous: Festival of Blood
    Dark Souls

    PS Vita games:
    Persona 4 Golden
    Tearaway
    Hohokum
    Killzone: Mercenary
    Rayman Legends
    Child of Light
    Escape Plan
Jacob Jones & the Bigfoot Mystery
    Resistance: Burning Skies

  • Weak…. I always defend ps plus but I was expecting more almost entering PS4 1st year… Arkham Asylum? Really? We got Arkham city which came out after earlier this year…. I was expecting origins… Hopefully next month… Sony goes all out for the ps4’s one year anniversary

  • You guys are going to give Batman again? This is Serious?

  • I own EVERYTHING except for PIX THE CAT :(
Dust on XB360, Batman is OLDDDDDD Spelunky on day 1, Rainbow too on Vita… Driveclub on PreOrder D&D liike ages ago

    :(((((((((

  • It is a pretty good month for games. I have played Batman Arkham Asylum on PS3, it is also a good choice for a free game (not sure why people are complaining). I would love to see it on the Vita, Blackgate was good but we need an open world batman game.

  • @yentair:

I don’t see them ever giving out Game of the Year versions of anything. Part of the point of PS Plus seems to be that while the devs are giving us the game for “free” (not counting a lot of money from Sony), they make even more money from DLC purchases.

Has there ever been a GotY version of anything on PS Plus? (As in including all the DLC?)

  • Not bad. Even though I already finished Batman Arkham Asylum ( and platinum’d), I still prefer to get that, than some crappy indie game.

Too all those complaining about the Batman: AA being old, who cares? If the game is good, why does it matter?
Maybe you should stop buying every single game at release, play it for a few hours, not finish it, and move on to the next. If you spend more time with a single game, pass on others, you get to play them years later for cheaper, or in this case free.

  • I don’t see such a bad lineup since 2013.. :(

  • Still somehow a bad limeup… but you should never set personal expectations above experience. I’ll try em all and judge afterwards. At least driveclub sounds great and spelunky too…. Gread Style on the news though. Has been a while but still is fine.

  • Damn, this is seriously one of the best PS+ months I’ve seen.

I’m concerned that Sony may blow an artery or something at this rate, but…keep it up!

  • we should able to play all ps3 games on ps4…

  • I already own all the Arkham games and Rainbow moon. Maybe I’ll try out Dust, Spelunky, and Pix. I’ve been needing something kinda different anyway.

  • Much better than last month
all of these games are great
already own alot of them but oh well

  • All right!! good games…. god job sony. regards. XD

  • Super excited for Dust. That game looked amazing on 360 and I didn’t get to finish it, but now I can on PS4 with better graphics! Nice.

Arkham Assylum – I’m scratching my head because not only have I played and beat it years ago, but the game has been on sale for $5 – why put it in the IGC? Tack on the fact that Arkham City, a newer game, is already in the IGC…Seems like a step backwards to me. Very disappointed with this choice.

Glad Drive Club is finally here. Not super excited for it though.

    Everything else is meh.

  • Im loveing this line up man very strong cant wait to play Dust: An Elysian Tail and Spelunky

  • Rainbow Moon is one of my favorite games I’ve played on the Vita. Already put over 100hrs. into it. I guess I will check back in November because I’m not really interested in the other games. Thanks anyway.

  • Meh! Nothing for me this month … just DRIVECLUB.

  • “Man! I cannot wait to play Arkham Asylum!” said 2009 Moofboy.

Pretty big step backwards from the previous plus offering of Arkham City. Are you sure you didn’t mean Arkham Origins? Do you need to double check?

  • spelunky, driveclub, dust pretty cool… already own D&D and raibow moon… great month!

  • Was just thinking of Batman and then it gets added to IGC. Was expecting Arkham Origins but Asylum is the better game and is a nice addition for those who never played the Arkham series before. Rainbow Moon is nice, bought it a few months ago and Spleunky is awesome as well and addicting. Might replay Asylum again, thanks Sony.

  • Good games overall. PS3 used to have better games in the past, please look into that!

  • Love! So nice!
