IGN’s Top 25 PSN Games of All Time

Holy crap, I’m posting on the PlayStation.Blog. I’ve been reading this thing for years and saying “Shut up, Jeff and Sid; I can write that better than you!” And here I am. I’ve made it. Beyond.

Anyway, IGN.com is this website I work for, and it’s the Internet’s No. 1 source for video game news, previews, reviews and videos. My Podcast Beyond cohost Colin Moriarty and I sat down not too long ago, and hashed out the 25 PSN games we’d recommend to folks with a PS3. Gameplay, graphics, story – it all factored in here. But there’s something different about this iteration of the list.

IGN’s Top 25 PSN Games of All Time

Namely: this is the last year we’re going to make it.

We’re not done covering PlayStation Network, we’re not saying nothing’s coming out this year – we’re saying that PSN games are so good that there’s no point in treating them differently. There’s no point in not letting them compete with the biggest boxed games. Journey was IGN’s 2012 Game of the Year; clearly, these titles are good enough to just be considered “PlayStation 3 games.” Plus, it goes the other way; PS3 games are available digitally now on PSN, so what’s the point in differentiating? Great games are great games.

So, this list is it. The best PSN games you can possibly buy. Did your favorites make the cut? Click on over, read the article, and leave an insightful comment. If you do, you’re entered to win a PSN voucher code that will get you all 25 games. That’s right: go comment on the IGN article and you have a chance at walking away with all 25 PSN games.

I am also told that leaving a comment on this here PlayStation.Blog post before 11:59pm Pacific Time tonight will enter you in a random drawing to score the same 25 PSN games. Not bad, right? The giveaway has ended and the winner has been contacted!

  • BEYOND!!!<3

  • Oh my These kind of things make me happy and sad at the same time. Why can’t they all be on the list?
    BEYOND?

  • A lot of good games on that list, several I haven’t played yet

  • I would have loved to see Zen Pinball 2 or Pinball arcade make the list, but I’m glad you and Colin ‘owned’ the list again this year instead of doing fan service choices.

I’m surprised Colin didn’t make sure Rainbow Moon got the nod.

    Love you guys, BEYOND!

  • Only one way to find out if I win the random drawing. BEYOND!, Greg love your articles and IGN too! :)
Favorite PSN Game bought, Dead Nation. Three games I want are Castle Crashers, The Walking Dead and Journey.

  • It would be BEYOND awesome if I won all of these PSN games. :D

  • Pick me. I’m the best.

  • These lists are great as sometimes I hear about games I may have overlooked!

  • Wow, all 25 games? Thats amazing!

  • WOW a bit of IGN on the Playstation Blog, so cool maybe it should happen more often; great list kinda sorry its going to be your last but I understand your reasoning

  • A chance at 25 rad games…Count me in!

  • Whaaat, it’s Greg! It’s so interesting seeing a post from you here, especially after listening to Podcast BEYOND! earlier today, awesome list! Thanks for stopping by the Blog! =D

  • I’m really glad to see you Greg and Colin on the PS.Blog! We needed more ‘fan service’ from you guys, after all. But, that doesn’t mean you guys shouldn’t stop posting new updates and videos on IGN too! Just make sure you save some of the lovin’ for us here on the PS.Blog as well. *wink*

On a side note, I’m proud to have completed Journey and Flower 100% this last week! Too bad there’s no platinum trophies for them though, but oh well, that’s life, you take what you can get. On the positive side, more experience and leveling up for my PlayStation profile! Time to start working towards completing flOw 100% now. I’m trying to beat ThatGameCompany’s whole Collector’s Edition disc since I’ve had it backlogged in my game collection for awhile now.

Anyways, keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see more PlayStation updates from both of you!

    BEYOND! ^o^

  • Thanks to PS plus, I have many of these titles. Not all though, hint, hint. Really though, best luck to all, and thanks for stopping by, guys!

  • I want to play as a puppy in Tokyo jungle!

  • Pixeljunk Shooter deserved a spot. Still, it’s a pretty good list. Beyond!.

  • why is Tokyo Jungle 25 ? that should be on the top 5… Journey is BEYONDDD over Rated. no surprise to see it number 1. OutLand is missing, Renegade Ops kills most those. Comet Crash is a better Tower Defence game. but ey we all are going to have are own likes and openions on whats the top list.

  • Also im surprised to nottt see Pixeljunk Shooter on there.

  • a top list is always good, even if only to criticize it.
i always consult the IGN lists.

  • I love ign!!!!!!
    Beyond ^ beyond!

  • ohh yeaa and The Last Guy was GREATTTT.

  • Greg you rock! That is all.

  • I love reading lists like these. I would definitely include Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes on my list.

  • BEYOND! Hope I win!

  • Love the list. I would have put PixelJunk monsters higher, but, to each, his own.

  • this is definitely awkward…… BEYOND!

  • Great list! A few favorites missing, such as Outland and Wipeout HD, but that’s ok when there are so many great titles.

    Also, that’s one awesome promotion!

    BEYOND!

  • I’m pleased to see Rochard on the list, by the way. Definitely one of the best PSN games in my collection that I had an absolute blast playing from beginning to end. It’s a shame it was overlooked by so many.

And of course Limbo. One of the best games EVER. Period. Such an extremely well-crafted experience. A masterpiece. I loved how every time I figured out one of the game’s many puzzles, the “a-ha” feeling I would get. Most of the puzzles have simplistic solutions, yet they can be quite perplexing just the same, especially at first glance. The emotion it evoked was surprising to, considering the lack of musical score and narrative. Toss in the open-to-interpretation “story”, which the meaning of is still debated to this day, and you got one of the most unique and compelling video games that has ever been produced, in my opinion… and I’ve been playing games for 30 years. And to think it was all done by a small indie team…

Big budgets, and explosions or bloody limbs flying every 5 seconds aren’t necessary for a satisfying adventure in a virtual world. :)

  • Yeah !! Hmm having the best 25 PSN Games, sign me UP! I already have some but not all hehehe- THX

  • Beyond! Long live Powerhouse!

  • As a PS3 newbie (yes, I did wait that long!), it’s great to have a list to point me which games I should be looking at. Very curious about Tokyo Jungle and Shatter, will definitely check them out. Thanks Greg, Colin and PS Blog!
