IGN’s Top 25 PSN Games of All Time

Holy crap, I’m posting on the PlayStation.Blog. I’ve been reading this thing for years and saying “Shut up, Jeff and Sid; I can write that better than you!” And here I am. I’ve made it. Beyond.

Anyway, IGN.com is this website I work for, and it’s the Internet’s No. 1 source for video game news, previews, reviews and videos. My Podcast Beyond cohost Colin Moriarty and I sat down not too long ago, and hashed out the 25 PSN games we’d recommend to folks with a PS3. Gameplay, graphics, story – it all factored in here. But there’s something different about this iteration of the list.

IGN’s Top 25 PSN Games of All Time

Namely: this is the last year we’re going to make it.

We’re not done covering PlayStation Network, we’re not saying nothing’s coming out this year – we’re saying that PSN games are so good that there’s no point in treating them differently. There’s no point in not letting them compete with the biggest boxed games. Journey was IGN’s 2012 Game of the Year; clearly, these titles are good enough to just be considered “PlayStation 3 games.” Plus, it goes the other way; PS3 games are available digitally now on PSN, so what’s the point in differentiating? Great games are great games.

So, this list is it. The best PSN games you can possibly buy. Did your favorites make the cut? Click on over, read the article, and leave an insightful comment. If you do, you’re entered to win a PSN voucher code that will get you all 25 games. That’s right: go comment on the IGN article and you have a chance at walking away with all 25 PSN games.

I am also told that leaving a comment on this here PlayStation.Blog post before 11:59pm Pacific Time tonight will enter you in a random drawing to score the same 25 PSN games. Not bad, right? The giveaway has ended and the winner has been contacted!

  • I’m wiseken07?

  • Lumines: Supernova? Really? Man, I really love Lumines, but Lumines games live and die by their soundtrack, and Supernova had a pretty terrible one. I couldn’t stand it. Sometimes I’d play with the sound off and my own music on, which is pretty blasphemous for a Lumines game.

Electronic Symphony, on the other hand, absolutely KILLS it with its soundtrack. Thank you, James Mielke, you beautiful man you.

  • I haven’t actually played Journey yet…..

  • BEYOND!!!!

  • Pac man in the top 5… are you serious? and PixelJunk would have to be a lot higher on my list. Good list anyway except some titles.

  • I’m so glad Greg got to post on the blog and that Playstation cares about IGN! BEEEEEEEYYYYYOOOOOOONNNNNDDDDDDD! Also, we love you Powerhouse!

  • So many of these games are classics, and Sony has been good enough to make the vast majority of them free with the PS Plus service and/or offer serious discounts on them over time… a great, comprehensive list overall.

  • I’m glad Pixeljunk Monsters is still high on the list, it’s probably the first PSN game I bought and it still might be my favorite!

  • I thought I’d see rainbow moon on that list since colin was a fan.
Great to see you on the website

  • Great List Greg! I hope the makers of Journey come back with an even more spectacular game….If that’s possible!

  • Rolling the Dice! Beyond!

  • Wow! I consider myself to be a big supporter of PSN games, yet I only own three out of the twenty-five on the list?! Clearly a lot more gaming to be had. No surprise on Journey’s victory; I’m still yet to pick it up, though the feedback for it has been overwhelmingly positive. Good job on the list.

  • I feel like The Walking Dead should be place in the top 3 and not in the top 10.

  • At the end of the day, games are games and some of those PSN Games are better than some Retail Games, Dead Nation can be an example!

  • Is puzzlequest out for PS3? Thought it was just a PSP game…now I’m going to have to go check… Nice list! But where’s Critter Crunch?

  • i have Shatter, Super Star Dust HD, Journey, but i need to get Castle Crashers, and Flower

  • BEYOND! i listen to your podcast religiously :^). I so appreciate the list, it reminded me of those awesome games that i bought when i first got my ps3 and now i’ll go play them again.

  • GO NINERS & MAGIC

  • What a great list of great games, it’s been a blast with my PS3 and PSN for 7 years :)

My favorite PSN game was Bionic Commando Rearmed :)

  • Nice list! I can agree with most of the games but I have yet to play journey.

  • I love Journey!

  • Nice list, I loved playing tokyo jungle can’t remember how many hours i put into that game might just go back and play it.

  • Beyond! Great list and I totally agree that the PSN/Big Box studio games should now be treated as one. To me it shows how far the smaller games and studios have come and just maybe how the big budget games have slipped. Hoping the line blurs even more in the future and keep up the great work on the #1 PS3 podcast.

  • Best part about this article is Greg responding to everyone! BEYOND!

  • Nice combination of old and new, differing genres. Not surprised at all to see two thatgamecompany games in the top 10 – well-deserved, as well.

  • I would love to see a mega combo of all those games be sold in psn, like all in one!

  • Kick Ass far Beyond !!!

  • Yes! BEYOND!

  • I got Walking Dead and Journey on sale. I was hoping to save some cash but I couldn’t pass up the sale. Now, only if I could win those 25 PSN games then I would be SET!!! Because I can NOT afford all these great games. Oh and…….BEYOND!!! GREG IS A BEAST!!!!!!

  • Psn <3

  • Nice, all games are created equal

  • Greg is the man, he also emailed me once on an IGN newstip I submitted. We share the same name too, maybe that’s why!

Oh yeah and I hope I win something, because that would be BEYOND cool. :) Anyways, BEYOND!!!!!

  • PSN Rocks! One of the most artistic and creative games made it to number Journey! Justice has been done! Great 25 game selection I hope I get to win to experience them.

  • What an awesome and welcome surprise to see Greg on the blog, plus a chance at some free games!? All I can say to that is, BEYOND!!

  • Oh yeah and also I think Greg & Colin should have a LOT more posts on the PS Blog, they hype up/advertise PS games a LOT on IGN more so than anywhere else I have ever seen! Seems like a good partnership to me!
