SOCOM 4 DLC Packs Announced, “Demolition” Free for New Players

SOCOM_Demolition_Black-01

The SOCOM franchise is a long and storied one, and today we’re very happy to announce that we’re revisiting its past and bringing back what is perhaps the series’ most popular mode, “Demolition”. Existing owners of SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs will be able to download the Demolition Pack for $9.99 with today’s PlayStation Store publish, which brings with it not only the Demolition competitive multiplayer game type but new maps, weapons and character skins as well.

SOCOM 4 DLC Packs Announced, “Demolition” Free for New Players

As a special promotional bonus starting tomorrow, new purchasers of SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs who buy the game at select retail partners will receive a free voucher for the Demolition Pack. When you buy the game new from Amazon, Best Buy or GameStop in the US or EB Games in Canada, be sure to ask for your free Demolition Pack code and then simply redeem the voucher on the PlayStation Network to download the pack at no additional charge. With SOCOM 4 now available at many retailers for $39.99 and with codes for both the Demolition Pack and SOCOM Pro Pack included for free, there’s no better time to pick up the game.

In “Demolition”, each team vies for control of a bomb placed on the map. Once a team grabs the bomb, they need to carry it into the opposing team’s base, arm the bomb and defend it until the base is destroyed.

The Demolition Pack includes four new maps, two of which are returning classics — “Bitter Jungle” and “Ruins”. All four of these maps support not only the Demolition game type but many of the retail competitive modes as well. Additionally, six of the existing maps will support the Demolition game type, making for 10 total Demolition maps. Additionally, the Demolition Pack also includes two new weapons, the HS-C3 and 552, as well as six new multiplayer skins to choose from.

Demotion Pack Details

Included Maps:
“Departure” – Navigate trains and tunnels in this subway station as you hunt down the enemy.
“Overflow” – Both distanced and close-quarters combat take place around a massive dam.
“Bitter Jungle” – Get out of the city and into the jungle in this classic SOCOM environment.
“Ruins” – Do battle in this classic SOCOM map’s ancient ruins.

Included Weapons:
HS-C3 – Low rate of fire but above average damage and very high accuracy.
552 – Average damage and firing rate, but very accurate when standing still.

But that’s not all!

In two weeks we’ll also be expanding SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs’ cooperative mode with the new Evac Co-op Pack. Available November 1st for $7.99, the Evac Co-op Pack will introduce the “Evac” cooperative mode and include a new cooperative map, two new weapons and six additional character skins.

In “Evac”, players are caught behind enemy lines and must fight their way out alive. Your pick-up vehicle is on-route to a designated location, and it’s up to you to fight your way there and defend the point until your exit arrives.

“Evac” works across the original six cooperative missions as well as the new “Onslaught” location included in this pack. “Onslaught” also supports the original “Espionage” and “Takedown” cooperative modes.

Evac Co-op Pack Details

Included Weapons:
AM50 – It doesn’t carry many rounds and it’s slow to fire, but the AM50 will kill with a single shot anywhere on an opponent’s body.

  • Sorry Zipper. This is 6 months too late.

  • All u people who say u won’t buy this dlc are full of shjt. Why would you seriously stay on here bashing.

  • Yea I definitely meant @41 sorry sir lol

  • I miss those ps2 days when socom was actually good and games were released full. This game is trash.

  • Ill be buying it :) Socom baby its my dream game grew up around this game and always will. Said November or today ? there are 2 days. Comes out today and also November

  • I like sony products and games.

But the treatment socom fans have had to endure is just ridiculous.

I’ve bought every socom, if not the same day the same week. (excluding psp versions)

Confrontation was trash, socom 4 is a good game but it is not socom.

Now your telling me my socom pro is worthless?

But new customers can pick up one of the many unsold socom 4 copies that came with socom pro and get the new dlc free?

First you change the game people loved on the ps2, then you let slant 6 butcher socom and tack on a headset with it.

Then zipper and sony unite and laugh as they urinate on us socom fans.

Who is in charge of the playstation brand? Steve Ballmer?

Love you sony, but Go F*** Yourselves with this nonsense.

  • Tell them @lordraoch lol

  • This obvious attempt at getting the last possible sales before BF3 U3 and MW3 hit the market and erase people’s memories of knowing SOCOM 4 ever existed is pathetic.

But thats not all, they found a way to be even more pathetic and screw the supporters of this game one last time.

    SOCOMers, support and love SOCOM.

Thats why were (well I was) a SOCOMer, not a Zipperer. Screw these lame guys.

  • @ 47

Yeah but I can go out and buy an unsold copy (there are plenty of them out in the wild) that comes with socom pro and get the free dlc as well can’t I?

These are deals sony should be doing with call of duty or other big names like that.

As is sony is just pissing on the little bit of socom fans left.

  • way to reward ur fans.

    /sarcasm

  • @58

BF3 is overrated junk, nothing more than a Bad Company 2 with Medal of Honor graphics. The game was ported to the PS3, don’t fall into the EA hype when they say it was optimized for PS3 because the game looks better on the 360. Uncharted multiplayer sucks and always has. Socom 4 destroys both games.

  • Good luck with this Zipper because you’ve lost my support until we get a SOCOM game.

  • I have to pay 10 bucks for something that should have been included in the game when it released, and having the Socom Pro “deal”?

This article even says, “… we’re very happy to announce that we’re revisiting its past and bringing back what is perhaps the series’ most popular mode…”

I’m sorry… but am I only one scratching my head when I read that quote?

  • Oh, and before any smartass says “You don’t HAVE to buy anthing,” don’t be such a literal jackass.

  • the Socom 4 beta sucked but I like MAG

  • I have never everrrrrrrrrr commented here. I also traded my Socom 4 copy.

But this right here maybe put a comment.

Socom Confrontation was bad but better than Socom 4 I still have confrontation but traded Socom 4.

ZIPPER the only way you will everrrrrr get a penny from me is if u ever make any PS2 Socom HD with multiplayer.

But if not Zipper and Socom are dead. You may rest in peace now.

Ohh before I go your marketing team need to be replace completely no exceptions.

quick joke what these 3 items have in common?

    Socom 4, Windows Vista , Iphone 4(antenna)

I will let you be the judge.

  • ZIPPER.WAT.THE.HECK! I THOUGHT THE PRO MEMBERS WERE SUPPOSE TO GET IT FREE..NOT THE NEWBS! SMH..YOU GUYS AT ZIPPER ARE REALLY RUINING THE SOCOM FRANCHISE! SOCOM WAS AND IS SUPPOSE TO BE THE BEST EXCLUSIVE TACTIC SHOOTER GAME OUT! BUT SINCE YOU GUYS AT ZIPPER CANT GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE MONEY GUTTER..YOU WILL BE LOSING ALOT OF LOYAL FANS WHO HAVE SUPPORTED YOUR GAME SINCE S1,2 AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE – COMBINED ASSAULT! – WHICH BTW SHOULD BE REMADE IN HD! YET IM PRETTY SURE THAT NEXT ON YOUR MONEY HUNGRY PROJECT >:/…WELL I FOR ONE WONT BE PURCHASING THIS DLC..I WILL NOT SUPPORT A COMPANY THAT STABS ITS LOYAL FANS IN THE BACK! >:I THANK GOD FOR UNCHARTED 3 AND RESISTANCE 3..SOME OF THE CURRENT SONY EXCLSUIVES I CAN RELY ON..

  • I’m reading half these comments and lol’ing, bc for people who sure do hate this game. When I search your names on the leaderboards it just looks like you get tore a newAnd for eveyone crying about “WHY WASN”T THIS INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL GAME?!?!? Why should I have to pay for something that should have been in it in the first place??” hrmmm maybe its bc gaame companies like money? Look at RAGE .. it was just released and there is already DLC for some extra missions for guess how much??? yep, $9.99… FOR EXTRA MISSIONS!!! We are getting an old classic game mode with 6 new skins and 3 new maps and 2 guns (the 552!!!!)… I’m gonna shell out 10 bones for that ALL DAY… so whatever, dont get it, and cry about it all you want. I’ll be setting off bombs and making peoples face look like swiss cheese with my new 552.. hahah… FU haters!

  • Getting this as well as the rest of the huge real Socom fans. Yes you jump the ship Socom 4 players that stopped supporting cause the gameplay changed, cause respawns was added to some game modes, etc…you don’t count anymore you not important. Instead of realizing the good of the game you made it personal thinking after that you want in the game is the only thing that is important. No customers matter, I being a customer since Socom 1 does matter too but Socom is not going to survive off of veterans alone. The game is doing good without you campers anyway.

Can’t wait to play this and give you guys my money. Thank You Zipper!

  • …one more thing for those talking about other games coming out and not playing Socom 4. Well I’m getting those games to but this DLC gives me and many other people that are getting those games a reason to try to get on Socom 4 also. Zipper is smart what they are doing with this DLC is keeping interest. Smart move Zipper I’m not hating I’m buying. Half these haters on here broke anyway.

  • IMO, this game greatly disappointed Socom life-long fans for: 1. the current gen. who enjoy military 3rd/1st person shooters & 2. the curious gamer that likes Move-enabled titles. I’m in the 1 & 2 crowd (never played a Socom game) & will pick this game up in December. But I get that many are slighted for this game & how it was designed; still, if you don’t like it don’t buy it. The devs will know their success by the sales numbers- we don’t need to curse or insult them, choosing not to purchase it is plain enough.

  • I am happy for this DLC to release, but I have one problem with this: I have Pro membership and still have to pay for the DLC. I paid for the expensive edition of the game with the sharpshooter (the controls of which in the game I was less than pleased with), and I wanted the pro for the bonus stuff. And from the PlayStation Store, I quote: “SOCOM Pro membership… grants you access to the periodic release of exclusive content including EXPANSION PACKS…” even though it’s only $10, I feel cheated when I pay for a new game (especially the expensive edition) and don’t get what they promise me. From what I can tell, the only free DLC was the Assault pack. And now you’re letting people that aren’t paying full price get free stuff that the original buyers won’t? I usually try to be polite when commenting, but the more I think about this, the more irritated I get. I’m assuming that Zipper is either: A) really hard-pressed for money right now, or B) a company composed of a huge lot of pricks. Whatever the answer is, I’m quite displeased.

  • No, it is “never” enough to just not buy the product. Most pay for a “good” or “complete” product. However, this generation has been the most awful in history in terms of quality and product services. If anything they get off w-a-y too easily in my opinion. Especially considering how, they all regard us the consumers (the majority anyway) as pure sheep ready to be duped (and that is me putting this as nicely as I possibly can without sugar coating the truth too much for those feint of heart types.)

  • 9:08 P.M. EST and still no store update. Way to drop the ball this week Sony.

  • They kind of failed me…and the real Socom 4 fans..and the people who wanted Pay Day SMH

  • Zipper should have stuck with MAG instead of betting it all on SOCRAP4.

  • I’m sorry but Demolition is SOCOM, why was this not included from day one? Seems your company would rather exploit it’s fans for the number one reason people play the game in the first place. Sadly, if the game was actually any good you people might have gotten away this this. Fortunately, the game is terrible and dead so the only ones you’ll be extorting are the morons dumb enough to still own this game.

  • the new dlc sould b free for socom pro members

  • So Chris Roper, “Community Specialist” You to can’t bother to reply to ANYONE!?
Glad to see your such a “Specialist” with the community now that SOCOM is OFFICIALLY floating in the toilet!

Zipper has messed up big time this Gen! I’m really not seeing this studio around for the next go.
    RIP ZIPPER!

  • Chargin for maps/skins is OK.

Charging for a mode which has been the most popular mode since Socom 1. Not ok.

Handing it out free to new purchasers, but not pro members? Not ok.

SCEA i.e. SONY, please hand off the socom franchise to another internal developer. Zipper is absolutely killing the franchise. They don’t listen to any feedback.

    RIP Socom

  • @ Socom 4 fans defending the DLC.

Think for a minute about your purchase and why you should purchase it..The player ques are getting longer and other shooters are about to hit the market. If you are new to SOCOM and Socom 4 is your first entry into the franchise, then you do not understand the backlash.

Releasing a game mode for charge 6+ months later that is “thee” most popular mode is wrong. Demolition has been in every socom before Socom 4, and should of shipped with game. Offering the package for free is a whole other topic.

If you buy this, you are telling the developers that “it’s ok” to release a game only 75% complete. Imagine in
Socom 5 having to purchase smoke grenades, snipers rifles, ranks, group play..etc. just to use them despite being free in the previous entries.

  • I’ll explain this in the simplest possible terms & expect the really dense here STILL won’t get it.

When u buy a game with specific features at a specific price, u’ve made a purchase.

If it doesn’t have the features u want, u don’t trade your $ for it. (Or u have the drive & talent to go out & make ur OWN game.)

If u trade x dollars for x features, u don’t get to go back & demand the deal be re-made. If not getting Demo was a deal-breaker, u DON’T BUY IT. Period. U don’t get to whine later how it should now be free.

Development costs a lot of $. U hire creative people & PAY them. If ur whining that ur “entitled”, it’s probably because u’ve never had to make a living from ur creative efforts, or not even HAD a real job, or forgotten that creating stuff IS a real job.

A specific number of features, modes and maps are possible in a given development cycle. All of uwhining about what WASN’T included that u wanted are ignoring what WAS included, irrespective of ur personal preferences.

“They should have included maps X, Y, and Z, they were ALREADY MADE IN THE OLD VERSIONS” is COMPLETE crap! There are probably as many polygons in one GUN as there used to be in old entire LEVELS. (cont….)

  • (cont…)

The texturing, design, changes in metrics, are NOT FREE.

If u want to pay an artist to reissue similar properties within the new paradigms, welcome to supporting artists that r trying to make a living in this world. If u want to whine about how everything u want should be free, just because u want it, irrespective of the fact that u AGREED to pay a specific price for a specific set of features upon the game’s release, u just reveal urself as an egocentric, narcissistic, clueless, baseless-entitlement-feeling economic imbecile.

I’m HAPPY to be paying for the work of these designers and programmers, & feel very, very sorry for them considering the AWFUL, BASELESS abuse they get showered on them by whiny basement-dwelling illiterates who so crave ego fulfillment by artificial means that they scream themselves blue when anything takes away any PART of their ego-bolstering tools.

The game is fun, they’re doing their best to make it MORE fun.

Flame away: reveal even more shallow pathology, it’s my last word on this — I only posted this for the few thinking humans posting here, and don’t care about the intellectually bankrupt barking, grunting & howling that will follow.

  • Oh, and have a nice day!

  • Sony please read this!

Socom 4 was the most disappointing game you guys have developed and published for the PS3. I dont know who is to blame but i really dont think Zipper is a competent developer. How could they take a great series like Socom and turn it into a complete pile of doo doo?

This DLC is no more than a scam…demolition should have been in the original game now its being charged extra for? It doesnt matter…the gun mechanics, point of views and character movements in Socom 4 of so horrendous no matter how many feel good classic cosmetic bull you guys try to throw at us. Its unbuyable for me..the game just quite frankly sucks. Its ashame too because the Socom that you had on the PS2 was amazing and really could of made an impact on the PS3..in fact i bought a PS3 because of my love for the PS2 Socom games. Now im going to buy Battlefield 3 and avoid any games Zipper makes. Oh and next system i buy may be from Microsoft now that you guys no longer have a good series in Socom. You ruined it…please get rid of Zipper.

  • 8:30 pm Pacific time, I finally saw the DLC on Playstation Store, but had to search for “Demolition” to find it.

  • Just an aside:

“SOCOM Pro membership… grants you access to the periodic release of exclusive content including EXPANSION PACKS…”

Nowhere does this say “ALL periodic releases”, or “ALL expansion packs.”

And, if you bought the game new, you got the Socom Pro code free.

Everything is going this way, now. Look at what COD is charging people for “Elite,” etc., now.

Most of you probably spend more on weed in a day, LOL.

  • @ the Zip 82

When i buy a game i want to pay for it…The problem with Socom 4 is the game was made for a completely new fanbase….

The people who actually like 3rd person tactical shooters were completely ignored and some Frankenstein of game was welded together from studies from focus groups and stupid gimmick controllers aimed at 5 year old kids. No consideration was taking in about the people who actaully are interested in a Socom game. Its disgusting how this all went down

And like i say im all for paying game devs for their work but Socom 4 is a horrendous game. The shooting mechanics are laughable..the POV is nonsensical. Its almost like a 5 year old you made the game for…made the game. The graphics are alright but im going to buy a game for average new gen graphics.

The bottom line…Zipper made a crap game, incomplete at launch and its laughable that they are charging people for a game mode that should of been in the game from the get go. As for the maps…what good are maps when the gameplay is already trash?

  • I understand that development costs money. I believe I already paid that fee by purchasing a pro membership. That was the sales pitch that I was given. If it turned out to be a bad business decision by Sony / Zipper, that is not my problem. I have to live up to the promises I make, so should they. This game has been collecting dust because of poor game play, horrible tracking on the move, and faulty patches (i.e. – the party system). I refuse to hand over another dime for more poorly designed content. Let me know when SOCOM 5 is on its way, maybe we’ll talk.

  • This game is done! So much for the loyal fans who went and bought the game at 59.99 and not put in the all time classic game play ” Demo”, and then their little scam to Pre-Order in order to get “Abandon” which you could only play in one type of game mode, No lobbies, &hitty servers, awesome head shots. Now they come out with 4 new maps, and a few diff Characters and two new guns…Whoooo, well worth the 9.99 price tag…NOT

I really don’t know what went wrong with Socom…Wait…Ahh…now i know….Some Tard name Seth thought it would be really cool to ” Dumb down the game”……I guess he was in charge of the dumb down division at Zipper. Maybe Sony should consider cut ties with Zipper and bring in some one new to make a shooter game.

Either way you look at it, i truly believe Socom is finished. decline in sales every release after combined assault, only leads to total destruction of Zipper, at least for Socom anyway.

    RIP Socom

  • @89: see 87

  • You snooze you lose Zipper. Not buying DLC this late in the season when I have BF3, Uncharted 3, MW3, Skyrim, and Saints Row 3..

Not to mention you’re kinda pulling one over on the people who paid $60 for the game. Time to trade it in to GameStop.

  • @the zip

    Developing cost money. Duh.
So does screwing the loyal fanbase.

Common sense, you want repeat customers for future products and services.

    Stop defending them.

  • So I’m reading through this and it dawns on me that maybe you guys who did buy the Pro version will still get free content. According to an earlier post it said this on the PS Store

“SOCOM Pro membership… grants you access to the periodic release of exclusive content including EXPANSION PACKS…”

That says to me you will get content but it doesn’t say specifically what content or when so it is entirely possible that your free DLC is still coming. just assuming all DLC will be free is kinda naive unless it actually states that in the agreement ?

I hope you guys aren’t getting the shaft here but you may be completely wrong in assuming they have to give you the current DLC.

  • Just noticed TheZip beat me to it…

    Anyway good luck guys :)

  • @88:Then u don’t buy it.

Move isn’t for 5 yr olds: it’s 4 ppl haven’t devoted 1/2 their life 2 an otherwise-useless skill (thumbsticks). “Stick” controls r dinosaurs. NE1 who can shoot a gun shd b able 2 pick up a shooter & play it, not just thumbstick monkeys who’ve proudly perfected something that’s like learning to paint with ur feet.

I know u so-called “hardcore” gamers don’t like this… ur blacksmiths hating on the car.

Fact is, people that LOVED old Socom were minority still left standing while every1 else was dead & watching em show off. Not a huge market for that. People want to PLAY, not watch u. A game is a $ proposition: every time u guys say, “this game’s for hardcore, not casual gamers!”, ur ignoring the fact that ur talking about RESTRICTING SALES. I’ve heard guys tell low-scoring players, “U shdn’t even b PLAYING this game… u shoulda bought a BABY game!” — I’m sure Sony & Zipper LOVE ur telling their customers not 2 spend $ on them, LOL.

Of COURSE the vocal few that dominated a niche game want it bk. BUT THEY DON”T WANT 2 PAY $500 A COPY, which wd b the $ reality 4 that tiny a market.

If u REALLY feel that strongly… bcome a developer, make yr game, & play it. Zipper did.

  • THE ROPER REPORT!!

  • very sad how this franchise did a 180 from being the best online experience ever to being the worst.

i love how Zipper is NOW putting out classic maps…..and Why the F is the guy from Frostfire(Yellow Rain Coat) in this DLC Pack? talk about desperation.

i think its safe to say that after 11Years… Zipper went 2 for 8 with this franchise(Counting PSP) and the developer is a FLUKE.

    thanks for ruining my childhood

  • Dear Zip,

are you stupid? what makes you think that “We” the consumers pay for the development of this game? SONY pays for the development. those developers who get there feelings hurt because us “Basement dwellers” whine about how crappy the game is ALSO GET PAID BY SONY.

its not like they are working for free until a game turns a profit you moron.

dont get me wrong, i do understand that making a game takes alot of money and time, so porting over Classic maps and guns is much harder then us “Basement Dwellers” think…..but thats what SONY pays them for!!!!!!

ZIPPER has to make better decisions. plain and simple. im sure Sony didnt tell them “Keep out Demolition, so we can charge people later”. that decision was made by the idiots who are ruining….*Ahem* running the company. people are frustrated because Zipper jerks us around, they say this is gonna be the socom we all used to know and love and they throw in a bunch of crap people DONT play SOCOM for!!!!!! they used this name to gain make some money. and i say “Used” because they are completely done with this franchise. they wont make another one.

  • Cont…

so keep your mouth shut “Zip” and pony up the $8 this pack costs and wait 8hours til it finishes downlading you little turd….its because of people like you, this franchise turned out the way it did…i could already tell that you loved Socom3, Combined Assault, and Confrontation.

    R.I.P. Socom Franchise :-(

this series will never be good again unless they actually make what we wanted them to make, Socom2 HD.
