Hi everyone! As we are continuously working toward providing the best gaming and entertainment experience on PlayStation 3, I wanted to give you all a heads up on the following new features and changes coming with the next system software update (v.3.70).
To make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers, we’ve added the option to automate two existing features. The [Automatic Download] feature will now be called [Automatic Update] as a result of these new options.
- A new auto upload function for online save data back-up will be added to make it easier to back-up your game save data. Under (Game), select the game for which you want to automatically upload saved data, and then press the Triangle button.
- Also, Trophies will now sync automatically at the timing of Auto Download.
A new recommendation function will be added that enables you to share your recommendations for PlayStation Store items, such as games and videos, with PlayStation Network friends. You will be able to send messages with a store link from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Due to the increase in video applications being offered on PS3, we are adding a new category on the XMB called TV/Video Services. This category will include video applications such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU.
- You’ll be able to find and download all of the video applications available on PS3 directly from this new XMB category.
- A folder labeled “My Channels” within this category will allow you to easily access your downloaded applications.
- Any videos downloaded from the PlayStation store will continue to be placed in the existing Video category on the XMB
Two updates for all of you enjoying Blu-ray 3D movies on PS3:
- 3D support will now be available when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-Ray
- DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) will be supported while playing Blu-ray 3D movies.
- 3D digital photos in MPO format can now be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
The 3.70 update will be available soon; additional details will be available after the firmware goes live here. Separately, there will also be a minor PSP system software update (v. 6.60) launching soon.

I too want backwards capability with ps3. They used to have it for first and second gen. Ps3 consoles-I don’t know why they took it out…
*sigh* and yet people still complain. I’m glad that we’ve at least got a update for the PS3. That auto feature is pretty useful since I plan on buying a second PS3 in October. Thanks for the update Sony and keep up the good work.
Time to face facts here. This is an unmitigated cash grab, namely by attempting to force consumers into the failed PS Plus (in fact a Minus) coupon club. Problem is it won’t work, people are not THAT stupid. Thats nothing new at sony nor is the lack of “official” reply thereby letting their brigade of shill trollboys make it for them. These business tactics have no merit nor does this forced update. Personally I’m no longer shocked by this companies lack of ethical behaviour and not taking responsibility for its own actions. The only shock will be when the next gen finally comes there will be no customers remaining to see what the company does with it assuming they’re still here at all.
Nice update that was definatley missing for the game saves now the feature makes sense because who wants to manually go and save their game save to the cloud after every time you play.

@467, the features you always loved are still free… PSN keeps growing and costs more and more to maintain. You cannot expect sony to keep offering more and more and kkeep everything free, they are not a charity. Either pay, do without or get an xbox where netflix, Demos and just playing online cost a yearly fee.
Why is something as utterly BASIC as Auto Trophy Syncing?! This should be available to EVERY SINGLE PSN user!!! I know that manually syncing trophies isn’t a huge inconvenience, but it is still an inconvenience nonetheless. If I wanted to get Playstation Plus should be about giving the discounts and extra features to those that pay the subscription, not merely taking away some inconveniences. Poor show, Sony. Poor show.
Does mean that the new headset is coming soon?

You can still sync trophies, is it really a big deal? The more important part of plsu is the cloud saving, some games will not have to external Hard drives.

@504: Actually, as the consumers of Sony’s products, yes we should be the ones to determine what is standard. Stuff that ADDS to the Playstation experience, discounts, and even cloud saving I would be willing to pay a subscription for. But something that just fixes an inconvenience like trophy syncing should be available to everybody. Is it a big deal? Not entirely. But if you get enough small issues together, they can turn into one big problem.
make an update so the ps3 system can play music whille you are playing the game. i would rather listen to music the music from call of duty i have it gets stuck in your head.
This patch need to be called 3.67 not 3.7 No big improvement just new stuff for psn+ and peoples who have a 3d tv (maybe 10% on ps3 users and less).
syncing should be available to everybody. I am psn+ but I am not using my main account on forum/blog.

I’m very pleased with the auto trophy sync now. I was really getting annoyed that you have to view you profile/ trophy information every time I got a trophy. But what I really love is the “Recommend” button. Now I don’t have to send my friends messages every time I think they should get a game. It will be a lot easier :). I guess I like the TV/Video Services Icon but I don’t have Netflix or anything like that :P. Cool update as always Sony!

dissapointed that again general PSN subscribers have been denied something as simple as auto-synicing trophies. the plus subscription isn’t worth it for some people and auto-synicing is someting every account needs to have
I updated and now majority of the text in the psn store is JAPANESE….WTF? EX, top left hand of screen were it usually has game then video with its icons. THIS IS NOW IN JAPANESE WITH ICONS. Anybody else have this problem? Wassup SONY whats the deal?
SMH….Damn Sony. I was excited about this until I found out the sync isn’t for EVERY trophy you get. Everything you do is so half assed it’s not even funny. I would rather have seen a name change feature. That’s needed.
You guys just can’t get shii right even if people gave you the damn blue prints! You know what?…I don’t even want to see cross game chat on the ps3, I’m afraid of how half assed you could make a great feature like that be. Ashamed.

I can understand the whole point of adding more value to PS Plus subscribers, but there are several issues Sony should adress first. For example, in order to use these functions my PS3 will have locked I need to buy the subscription, funny thing is that I can not do it since my main account is from Spain because my country was not available back then when I bought the system. Please fix the account server migration, so I, as many others needing this, can start supporting you with purchases in the store.

@512: Perhaps you should read the whole post. I never said I want everything free. I even gave a list of things that I’m willing to pay for. But we should not be forced to pay for a patch that fixes an inconvenience that EVERY PS3 user experiences. Auto trophy syncing is NOT a feature, it is a FIX and should NOT be paid for.
Stop complaining, people. It’s nice to get an update that’s not just a security fix, and actually seems to give us a little bit extra.
The Bluray update is really nice, as the lack of lossless audio on 3D Bluray was a letdown for some people. Now the PS3 is on a par with the high end 3D Bluray players that give us lossless audio. Thanks SCE :)
I’m quite excited about automatically saving to the cloud, because it looks like Sony are paving the way for Vita and shared cloud saves once that launches.
I’m guessing that Vita will also come with free PSN membership, but if you want to be throwing save games back and forth to the cloud between a PS3 and Vita, then automatic saves through PS+ will be a big convenience for owners of both devices. I hope Sony still allow save games to be sent by wifi or bluetooth between Vita and PS3, but having cloud transfers will convert a lot of people to PS+.
Speaking of which, I think that all those Minis and PSOne classics that we keep getting on Plus are going to become a lot more attractive when Vita comes. I can’t imagine spending too much time on Minis on my PS3, but on a portable device they become quite playable.
One of PS3’s main advantages over Xbox360 was that PSN was free. But now Sony are ruining that by only giving new features to PS+ members.
Sorry Sony, I’m not spending £40 a year for discounts off reject PSN games.
Well this is interesting and probably why you can’t release Vita in the Americas and Europe this year. That’s my working theory.
I think the reason that they aren’t giving Automatic Trophy Sync to everyone is that it is being done as part of the Automatic Updates feature.
This feature, for better or worse, is part of the PS+ package and is a differentiator between PS+ and normal PSN. If they start automatically updating some things and not others, it will be hard to market the auto update features of PS+.
Hopefully, PS+ can start getting some more significant upgrades, and this auto-updates feature, which should be part of the normal PSN package, can be opened up for all PSN users.

How do you do . good day to you and your staff. I have sugeestion for the psn community ointhe behalf of psn legioniaree group.. Not in any order but these are some very good sugesstions.
1. Allow psn blog share to be in xmb. so ideas can come faster from the gamer to the psn staff.
2.In game video chat as standard for single player games or a mp games that allow this. I understand its a very sensitive matter in some multi player games.

This is great we get to pay for something Xbox users have been getting for free the whole time. In what world could Sony think it was a good idea to make trophy sync a PS plus exclusive. Xbox live is and will always be way better then PS plus.
Oh and Sony no matter how much you try to cram 3D down peoples throats it’s not gonna happen. We like to see it at the movies but other than that it looses it’s luster. Look at how bad the 3DS has been doing.

3. allow video s from psn friend to be send viz xmb to each other via mail.
4. Start a communoity called ps eye video world. It would be something like youtube of playstation, where you could make videos subscribe to others video. download videos from other psn friend. watch video game montages via xmb. and also watch player made/fan made pod cast and auto download them psn via xmb .
This could be a little network you could reach via psn from the xmb.

The other console where they have to have a premium subscription…$60 a year just to watch services they have already paid for (netflix, hulu) and pay to play online, dl demos etc.
If you really wanted or cared about these services, such as auto syncing and cloud saves, you’d get plus, it’s still cheaper than the other system’s offering.
It’s okay to make requests or ask for more from your console, but to make silly threats and to make multiple, whiny posts really just makes you look like a spoiled brat to the rest of us.

Suggestions for future firmware updates:
1- Make the “quit game” function exclusive to PS+
2- Make the “power off system” function exclusive to PS+
3- Make background downloads and in-game XMB exclusive features to PS+ too, now we know if Plus had existed back then we would still be playing on a online-crippled console.

Maybe if we had REAL storage space the Auto saves would be worth something. I uploaded my WWE SvR 2011 files and filled up the space with that game alone! 150MB? That’s like saying “We’re giving everyone a Rolls Royce”…and it’s just a picture.
